Butane is one of dozens of gases extracted from raw natural gas and can also be produced from crude oil. Butane is also able to liquefy quickly when it is compressed. Butane can be called n-butane (the n in front of butane stands for normal); n-butane is a multipurpose colorless gas. For instance butane can be used for heating, refrigeration, and fuel for lighters. Butane is often mixed with propane to create LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) which is also used for cooking heating and other commercial purposes. Butane can also burn to form carbon dioxide and water vapour when oxygen is plentiful; however when there is a lack of oxygen carbon (soot) or carbon monoxide can also be formed ...
Enterprise Products Partners, a Houston-based natural gas and crude oil pipeline company, has revealed its plans to expand its butane isomerization plant at its complex in Mont Belvieu, Texas. This expansion is supported by long-term agreements to provide butane isomerization, storage and pipeline services, including a 20-year, 35,000 barrel per day ("BPD") fee-based, tolling agreement. Enterprise is currently evaluating two options to expand its butane isomerization facilities that would add up to 30,000 BPD of incremental capacity.. Enterprise is the largest commercial producer of high-purity isobutane in the United States. The partnership has 116,000 barrels per day ("BPD") of butane isomerization capacity at Mont Belvieu. Its isobutane system also includes approximately 13 million barrels of aggregate isom grade normal butane and high-purity isobutane salt dome storage capacity and 162 miles of distribution pipelines.. Butane isomerization is the process of converting normal butane into ...

Introduction. MOLAR MASS OF BUTANE Name: Ingrid Foss Ballo Class: 2IBJ Team: Ingrid Foss Ballo and Maike Jule Sonnewald Petersen Date: Tuesday 30th of January, 2004 AIMS The purpose of this activity is to determine the molar mass of butane using gas from a butane lighter. The experiment depends on the fact that the molar volume of an ideal gas is 22,4L at standard temperature and pressure (0 ?C and 101,3 kPa). By measuring the volume occupied by a known mass of butane, and knowing that its molar volume is 22,4L at S.T.P., it is possible to calculate the molar mass of butane. METHODS AND TOOLS Equipment - Piece of glass tubing - approximately 24 cm long and with a diameter of approximately 25 mm, closed at one end (with markings for mL). - Container for water - Butane lighter - Restort stand, boss head and clamp - Thermometer (-10-100 ?C) Procedure We filled both the glass tubing and the container with water. Then we inverted the tubing and place the open end of it under the surface of the water ...

Aim: To find the molar mass of butane, by finding the number of moles of gas in the container and comparing it to the mass of butane in the container. Theory. Butane (C4H10), also called n-butane, is the unbranched alkane with four carbon atoms, CH3CH2CH2CH3. Its only other isomer is methylpropane: CH(CH3)3. It is an organic compound which belongs to the alkane group or organic compounds. It is a highly flammable, colourless and odorless gas at r.t.p. this, along with the fact that is an easily liquedified gas, is why it is used in lighters as a fuel. Its Relative Molecular Mass is 58.12g, and it is barely soluble in water like most organic compounds: 0.0061 g/100 cm3, at 20 C.. In the experiment we shall find the mass of butane by calculating the change in mass of the lighter before and after the experiment. We shall find the number of moles in the container by finding the volume, pressure and temperature of butane inside the container, and then use the formula PV = nRT (where P: Absolute ...

Butane is, believe it or not, a totally organic compound made up of Alkane and Carbon. Butane can be used for filling your torches or lighters, as a solvent for making herbal concentrates and many other industrial and household uses. Purity is important when it comes to butane, there are cheap gasses that are potentially filled with impurities which people have reported killing their lighters and torches or having a foul taste. Because of these concerns it is imperative to get butane rated for high purity, we at Mr.Nice Guys only sell butane that we use personally in our devices. ...

BHO is more harmful than the plant it comes from, and its rise in popularity means that more and more incidents are occurring.. Butane: The process of boiling off the butane is not 100 percent effective, meaning that traces of it exist in the resulting oil. Users then inhale this butane, which can impair the brain and nervous system, causing an increased heart rate, dizziness and loss of consciousness. Poorly manufactured batches can contain larger amounts of BHO, causing more damage. Inhaling too much butane can be lethal.. THC content: Because BHO is so pure, the amount of THC it contains makes it powerfully psychoactive. Although not life-threatening, a very large dose of BHO can lead to vomiting in addition to anxiety, paranoia and other psychological issues that can persist for days.. Manufacturing process: The most dangerous aspect of BHO is the manufacturing process. Butane is extremely volatile, and large amounts of it are used in mostly closed-room makeshift labs. Often those making BHO ...

TAGUIG CITY: Due to a number of reported incidents, the Department of Energy (DOE) warns the general public on the dangers of using "LPG-refilled butane canisters" for household consumption.. Butane canisters are used only on a "one time" basis and must never be refilled with LPG, which has a higher pressure than butane, and thus may cause accidents (i.e., explosion, fire, etc.) while in use.. The DOE emphasized that these butane canisters are not intended and designed to be refilled, more so with LPG. Based on existing Philippine National Standards for gas containers, only "welded steel cylinders" are designed for storage, transport and distribution of LPG for domestic consumption.. The DOE would also like to reiterate Department Circular DC2014-01-0001 which outlines the rules and regulations governing the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Industry, especially the sets of standards for compliance of all LPG Industry participants (i.e., refiners, importers, refillers, marketers, and even haulers). ...

In this study, Cr and Co promoted, as well as unpromoted vanadium phosphate (VPO) catalysts were synthesized by the reaction of V2O5 and o-H3PO4 in organic medium followed by calcination in n-butane/air environment at 673 K. The physico-chemical properties and the catalytic behavior were affected by the addition of Cr and Co dopants. H2-TPR was used to investigate the nature of oxidants in the unpromoted and promoted catalysts. The results showed that both the Cr and Co promoters remarkably lowered the temperature of the reduction peak associated with V5+. The amount of oxygen species originated from the active phase, V4+, removed was significantly increased for Co and Cr-promoted catalysts. Both Cr and Co dopants improve strongly the n-butane conversion without sacrificing the MA selectivity. A good correlation was observed between the amount of oxygen species removed from V4+ phase and the activity for n-butane oxidation to maleic anhydride. This suggested that V4+-O was the center for the ...
We investigated the efficacy of fuel stratification in a pre-mixture of di-methyl ether (DME) and n-Butane, which have different auto-ignition characteristics, for reducing the pressure rise rate (PRR) of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines. A new chemical reaction model was created by mixing DME and n-Butane and compared to existing chemical reaction models to verify the effects. The rate of maximum pressure rise depends on mixture ratio. When DME was charged with stratification and n-butane was charged with homogeneity, the maximum PRR was the lowest. The calculations were performed using the SENKIN application of CHEMKIN-II.. Copyright © 2011 by KSME ...
Performance of Ni/Al2O3 catalysts (10 wt.% Ni) in steam reforming of n-butane was investigated in terms of n-butane conversion, selectivity to hydrogen and hydrogen yield. The process was carried out in a fixed-bed tubular reactor at 650 °C and atmospheric pressure. The volumetric flow rates of n-butane and steam were 0.1 mL/min and 0.6 mL/min, respectively. The catalysts were prepared by precipitation-sedimentation method at different precipitation, drying and calcination temperatures as well as precursor types. Synthesized catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and BET analyses. It was found that Ni- Nitrate as the precursor was more favorable than the other. Mathematical predictive formulas were generated for responses by Design Expert software. Also, the optimum condition of the catalyst preparation was obtained by using the response surface methodology (RSM). Ultimately, it was concluded that the overall optimum condition were: Tprecipitation=

The anaerobic formation and oxidation of methane involve unique enzymatic mechanisms and cofactors, all of which are believed to be specific for C1-compounds. Here we show that an anaerobic thermophilic enrichment culture composed of dense consortia of archaea and bacteria apparently uses partly similar pathways to oxidize the C4 hydrocarbon butane. The archaea, proposed genus Candidatus Syntrophoarchaeum, show the characteristic autofluorescence of methanogens, and contain highly expressed genes encoding enzymes similar to methyl-coenzyme M reductase. We detect butyl-coenzyme M, indicating archaeal butane activation analogous to the first step in anaerobic methane oxidation. In addition, Ca . Syntrophoarchaeum expresses the genes encoding β-oxidation enzymes, carbon monoxide dehydrogenase and reversible C1 methanogenesis enzymes. This allows for the complete oxidation of butane. Reducing equivalents are seemingly channelled to HotSeep-1, a thermophilic sulfate-reducing partner bacterium ...

The global butane market was worth USD 60.04 billion in the year of 2016 and is projected to touch nearly USD 93.30 billion by 2025, while registering itself at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.02% during the forecast period. The market industry is anticipated to witness substantial growth with decent compound annual growth rate during the forecast period due to increasing use of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for a variety of applications. It is likely to have a positive prospect over the approaching years. Butane is employed in fuel manufacturing procedures, owing to its characteristics like easily liquefiable and high flammability. The market demand of LPG is growing, as its adoption as household fuel, chiefly in Asia Pacific and Africa, is expected to fuel butane market. In many countries, the government is offering subsidy on LPG rates to encourage its use as domestic fuel. The government is encouraging its utilization in order to trim down coal need and limit carbon footprints.. As ...

Butane has pretty high boiling point (around $\ce{0 °C}$). This means, that just cooling air to $\ce{-30 °C}$ should condense a lot (if not all) of butane from it.. However, as I guess, most of butane used in foam production remains in the foam, otherwise the foam would collapse. So, it is very possible that there is not much to recycle in air itself. The gas, of course, will be released eventually, but only when foam itself is destroyed. ...

Isobutane is converted to methacrolein in an integrated two-step process wherein isobutane is dehydrogenated in a first step to isobutylene, hydrogen, and by-products and the reaction effluent is passed directly into a second step where isobutylene is oxidized to methacrolein without significant oxidation of the hydrogen and by-products. The methacrolein and by-products may be separated and the unreacted isobutylene and isobutane recycled to the first step. Alternatively, the effluent from the second step may be used as feed to a further oxidation step for conversion of methacrolein to methacrylic acid. In one embodiment, the hydrogen produced in the first step is oxidized using the excess oxygen from the second step under conditions selected to avoid loss of the C 4 components. In an alternative embodiment, the unreacted isobutane and isobutylene are absorbed and separated from the remaining components before being recycled to the first step.
In this study, the dehydrogenation component of Ga2O3 was introduced into ZSM-5 nanocrystals to prepare Ga2O3/ZSM-5 hollow fiber-based bifunctional catalysts. The physicochemical features of as-prepared catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, BET, SEM, STEM, NH3-TPD, etc., and their performances for the catalytic conversion of n-butane to produce light olefins and aromatics were investigated. The results indicated that a very small amount of gallium can cause a marked enhancement in the catalytic activity of ZSM-5 because of the synergistic effect of the dehydrogenation and aromatization properties of Ga2O3 and the cracking function of ZSM-5. Compared with Ga2O3/ZSM-5 nanoparticles, the unique hierarchical macro-meso-microporosity of the as-prepared hollow fibers can effectively enlarge the bifunctionality by enhancing the accessibility of active sites and the diffusion. Consequently, Ga2O3/ZSM-5 hollow fibers show excellent catalytic conversion of n-butane, with the highest yield of light olefins
