Immunodeficiency disorders happen when one or more components of your immune system are missing or when the system is not working as supposed to be. Defects in ones immune system can be congenital or acquired. Either way, having problems with the immune system permits harmful microorganisms to easily penetrate the bodys defenses and make anyone suffer various diseases.. Congenital Or Primary Type. If you are born with deficiencies in your immune system, you are said to be suffering from primary immunodeficiency. If you have the primary type of this disease, you may not be able to enjoy life like other people do. Your predisposition to contract all sorts of contagious diseases may start in your childhood days or it may not make its presence known until later in life. The following are two of the most common examples of inborn immunodeficiency disorder.. IgA Deficiency. IgA refers to your Immunoglobulin A which is basically a group of antibodies that are mainly found in your respiratory and ...
Take Cytoxan exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your dose will vary depending on the type of cancer, the other chemotherapy medications you are taking, and whether you develop bothersome or dangerous side effects. Sometimes Cytoxan is taken every day, and sometimes it is taken intermittently (such as twice a week or once every 10 days). For the treatment of nephrotic syndrome in children, Cytoxan is usually limited to 60 days to 90 days of use. Taking Cytoxan on an empty stomach is preferable. If severe stomach upset occurs, take it with food. Take each oral dose with a large glass of water. During treatment with this medication, you must drink more fluids than usual and pass urine frequently to help avoid kidney and bladder side effects ...
Types of Cancer within you. The primary types of cancer are prostate cancer, breast cancers, cancer from the colon and carcinoma of the lung. All These kinds of cancer are famous nowadays. You can still find other sorts of cancer they include pancreatic cancer, cervical cancer, cancer in the brain, bone CA, skin CA, bladder CA, gastric cancer, cancer from the colon, liver cancer and cancer in the testicles. Flexible heaters are sub-divided into two primary technology platforms: etched-foil and wire-based technology. Wire-based (wire strands woven together or single strand wire) is the more common technology, with multiple customers offering a wide range of products. Etched foil heaters represent a newer technology (developed in the last 40 years…if that can be considered new!) and are used in more advanced thermal management applications with thickness limitations and multiplanar heated surfaces. Flexible etched foil heaters are commonly grouped into categories based on their dielectric type. Three primary types of dielectrics are most common and each have advantages and disadvantages. Heater dielectric categories for this discussion include: Standard Polyimide, Silicone Rubber and High Temperature Polyimide.. Standard Polyimide. Polyimide is the primary material type chosen when high thermal control is desired with the thinnest construction possible. The amber-colored polyimide is often referred ...
I thought this was a really good article. Ive been interested in the whole size vs. strength debate. Lately, Ive really been looking for a physiological explanation for the different types of muscle building. With a quick google search, you can find that muscular growth is called hypertrophy and that the two primary types are myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic. Some facts are that myofibrillar hypertrophy means an increase in the number of muscle fibers and that sarcoplasmic hypertrophy means an increase in the size of muscle fibers because of an increase in sarcoplasm in the fibers themselves. The myth is that you can actually train your muscles for one type of hypertrophy over the other. The fact is that there is that there is no research that suggests that different types of training result in any difference in the relative amount of each type of hypertrophy. They simply happen together. Unfortunately, the myth that you can make your muscles larger (sarcoplasmic hypertrophy) with no effect on ...

English: Osteoporosis ("porous bones", from Greek: οστούν/ostoun meaning "bone" and πόρος/poros meaning "pore") is a disease of bones that leads to an increased risk of fracture. In osteoporosis the bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced, bone microarchitecture deteriorates, and the amount and variety of proteins in bone is altered. Osteoporosis is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a bone mineral density that is 2.5 standard deviations or more below the mean peak bone mass (average of young, healthy adults) as measured by DXA; the term "established osteoporosis" includes the presence of a fragility fracture. The disease may be classified as primary type 1, primary type 2, or secondary ...
Cytoxan belongs to the drugs for treatment of cancer with cytotoxic effect. Its active substance cyclophosphamide is converted in the liver by cytochrome P450 into two active substances acrolein and phosphoramide. They are the active compounds, and they slow the growth of cancer cells inhibiting their proliferation and metabolism. First of all this effect concerns cells of uncontrolled growing but also damages other cells of the body resulting in serious side effects. Cytoxan also can be referred to as immunosuppressive agent. Cytoxan is used to treat malignant lymphoma (lymphocytic and gistiotsitarnaya lymphoma, lymphogranulomatosis, Burkitt lymphoma, lymphoma, mixed type), multiple myeloma, leukemias (lymphocytic leukemia, granulocytic leukemia, myelocytic leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children), neuroblastoma, ovarian adenocarcinoma, retinoblastoma, breast carcinoma ...

Ive thrown everything I can at this shoe except ice and snow. Mud, small rocks, large rocks, sand, water, dirt, branches, leaves, roots, and then some. Nothing has slowed these shoes down. My trail running consists of two primary types of trails; single track dirt and old railroad beds. On the single track trails the shoe offers great grip and doesnt cling to the mud. The lugs are wide enough apart to let the mud come off and the sole is large enough to give you plenty of traction. On the railroad bed Im faced with ballast that varies from soft pine needles to large pointy rocks. The rock plate in the sole kept my feet happy through short and long runs. It easily out-performed the Saucony Peregrines in my shoe rotation. In the sand it gripped easily but didnt kick up as much sand as I expected. In the water, I was impressed. More impressed than I am with the grip of the shoe. I took a giant leap across a small creek and managed to look like an idiot by landing in the middle of said creek. ...
Life Line Screening offers an array of sophisticated screenings and tests that can foreshadow events from within a persons body that may lead to concern. All of the testings are non-invasive and is meant to be shared with the individual patients personal physician.. There are three primary types of screenings that are done, and they include ultrasound, finger-stick testing, and a limited electrocardiograph. The highly-trained technicians use the latest, state-of-the-art equipment which is hospital grade and provides the most satisfactory results.. The ultrasound screening uses the same technology that was discovered during World War II to seek out enemy submarines by sending out sound waves. In this application, the sound waves bounce off the organs in the body and provide a live look at the various organs. Such observations as blood flow in the arteries such as the aorta and the carotid can be viewed. Also, bone-density can be measured so that potential for osteoporosis risk can be ...

Nomothetic psychology is a tool that is useful in defining scientific areas of focus, which are generally overlooked or neglected by psychologists.. Psychoanalytic psychology is the most commonly used and well known psychological area in use today. Within the psychology field there are many different areas to consider including clinical, cognitive, developmental, and social or cultural.. Each of these areas have their own nominally definitions. Nominality https://www.mydigoo.com/forums-topicdetail-104525.html comes from the nominative or direct object of a verb. Within this way of defining a mental disorder there are several different definitions.. It is important to know that within psychoanalysis there are three specific types of disorders. These are usually divided by how deep the relationship with the patient is.. The primary type of anxiety is associated with the use of sedatives. This can be the cause of the patient feeling in an altered state of consciousness or awareness.. These ...

An epidemiologist is a scientist who studies how diseases interact with populations. Most epidemiologists study the relationships between germs and people, but some investigate animal or plant diseases. These scientists study the factors involved in every aspect of a disease, including the start, spread, and treatment. Three primary types of studies/reports are performed by epidemiologists: descriptive, analytical, and experimental. In descriptive studies epidemiologists determine the physical aspects of existing diseases. For example, they might record the number of cases of chicken pox in a given locale. Analytical studies report on the cause/effect relationships in a disease, such as the reasons behind increased numbers of cholera cases in a flood ravaged area or a decrease in influenza cases due to a mild winter. In experimental studies, epidemiologists test hypotheses about treatment of diseases such as the efficacy (success rate) of a hepatitis vaccine or testing experimental cures for HIV ...
TY - JOUR. T1 - Cisplatin-associated neurotoxicity. T2 - Can it be prevented?. AU - Alberts, David S. AU - Noel, J. K.. PY - 1995. Y1 - 1995. N2 - Neurotoxicity remains the major dose-limiting toxicity of cisplatin. Peripheral sensory neuropathy, the primary type of cisplatin neurotoxicity, has been reported in 30-100% of patients with clinical symptoms typically developing after cumulative cisplatin doses of ≥ 300 mg/m2. Several clinical studies have established an important dose-response, dose intensity-response and cumulative total dose-response relationship for cisplatin in the treatment of head and neck, testicular, melanoma, and ovarian cancers. In patients with these tumor types, the occurrence of moderate or severe neuropathy presents an important therapeutic dilemma. Several types of agents - including micleophilic sulfur thiols, neurotrophic factors, phosphonic acid antibiotics and free oxygen radical scavengers - have been investigated for amelioration of cisplatin-related ...
Amyloid appears homogeneous and amorphous under the light microscope but in reality consists of rigid, linear, nonbranching, aggregated fibrils 7.5 to 10 nm wide and of indefinite length. Each fibril consists of two to five filaments and is arranged in an antiparallel or cross-β-pleated sheet configuration, which is responsible for the unique staining and optical features. Congo red produces an apple-green birefringence with a polarized light source and is the most specific stain. Methyl violet, crystal violet, or thioflavin T also produce typical color changes. Electron microscopy reveals the fibrillar pattern. The amyloid fibrils deposit extracellularly and generally resist proteolytic digestion. These deposits lead to loss of normal tissue elements and disorganization of tissue architecture. In the United States, almost 85% of patients with systemic amyloidosis have the primary type (AL) in which the fibrils consist of monoclonal κ or λ light chains.1 Nephrotic syndrome or renal failure, ...
1) Two primary types of bacteria have been cultured from skins samples of multiple Morgellons patients. The bacteria are of two types; a chain or 2-4 rod-shaped bacilli and tiny, spherical, cocci/diplococci. On solid media the cocci make a hard membrane-like coating over the colony. The liquid culture of bacilli usually contains a very stringy material after a few days of culturing. Some macroscopic fibers have appeared in these cultures, but it is unclear where they are coming from. We are trying to determine whether they are environmental contaminants or a product of the bacteria. It is also possible that the long fibers are nothing more than DNA from the dead bacteria. We are currently performing PCR (to amplify the microbial DNA) and DNA sequence analysis of both of these isolated bacteria ...
Minimizing Scars during Surgery. Keeping scars mild actually begins during the procedure itself. There are two primary types of hair transplant surgeries: Follicular Unit Grafting (FUG) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUG has gotten a reputation for leaving a significant scar, because it involves a strip of hair-rich skin being taken from the back or sides of the head so that the follicles can be grafted onto areas where the patient is losing their hair. This usually leaves a narrow, linear scar. At our DAA hair transplant centers, however, all of our surgeries are performed by extremely skilled hair transplant surgeons Dr. Edmond Griffin and Dr. Ashley Curtis, who minimize scarring by keeping incisions and closures precise to allow for the most seamless healing possible. On top of this, Dr. Griffin and Dr. Curtis use a specialized suturing technique that allows hair to grow through the scar line, which greatly reduces the scars appearance.. In FUE surgery, on the other hand, the scarring ...
The donor stem cells migrated into the retina, differenitated into various types of retinal nerve cells and starting acting as those cells by becoming a part of the host network, said Mark Kirk, MU professor of biological sciences.. Four months after the transplant, the stem cells had incorporated into the retinal tissue and prevented retinal degeneration in the diseased mice. The primary type of cell lost due to the degenerative process is the photoreceptor. The results of the study showed that not only did the donor cells replace lost or injured cells, they also protected the host cells, including photoreceptors, from degeneration and supported their survival.. Just having the donor stem cells present led to a reduction in the size and number of the lysosomal storage bodies, thought to be the cause of the degeneration in the retina, Kirk said. This work supports the idea that stem cells can be used to deliver useful therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.. Before the donor stem cells ...

Gas fuels including biogas fuel is one of the accepted Alternative Fuel Sources in the world today because of its valuable benefits and advantages over petroleum fossil fuels. Sweden is a world leader in upgrading and use of biomethane for transport. In order to maintain a positive development of this sector, several conditions must be fulfilled at the same time, among them, minimized disturbances for clients. One of the main problems causing disturbances is the quality of the gas. The primary types of contamination are oil carryover from the compressor system, moisture and other impurities as siloxanes, sulfur compounds (for biomethane).. SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden has through research projects developed methods for the sampling and analysis of compounds under discussion for regulations or already regulated by the Swedish standard SS 15 54 38 and European standard. With access to many different instruments of analyses, we can offer gas analyses, all after requirement. Quality ...
There are two primary types of microarrays, cDNA-based and oligonucleotide-based microarrays. This chapter focuses primarily on oligonucleotide-based technology because of the specialized problems encountered in agricultural and environmental microbiology. In general, oligonucleotide microarrays are designed by using some of the basic principles of primer and probe design for PCR and Southern hybridization. Microarrays targeting mRNA enable researchers to relate community structure to community function. The design of these types of microarrays allows investigators to evaluate gene expression and therefore to expose important metabolic activities of specific microbial communities. There are several issues related to the use of microarrays that limit their use in environmental studies. At the front end of this potentially powerful tool is the need for sensitive nucleic acid extraction from complicated sample matrices. Direct extraction of nucleic acids from environmental samples may coextract ...
Alan S. Wayne, MD, director of the CCCBD, is the lead principal investigator for this clinical trial that is now open to patients with ALL whose disease is resistant to, or has relapsed following, standard chemotherapy or stem cell transplant. This approach has ushered in a whole new era of cancer immunotherapy, says Wayne, who is also associate director for Pediatric Oncology at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Professor of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. In this trial, T cells - a primary type of immune cell - are genetically engineered to recognize the CD19 protein on the surface of leukemia cells. In this approach, the patients own T cells are collected and modified in the laboratory to express what is called a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR). The T cells expressing the CAR are then returned to the patient where they can attack and eliminate leukemia cells.. Wayne previously led the development of the predecesor trial that ...
There are two primary types of pain. Acute pain is defined as Pain that is created by inflammation, tissue damage, injury, illness or recent surgery, often accompanies by redness, increased local temperature and swelling. Acute pain usually ends after the underlying cause is treated or has been resolved. Chronic pain persists for weeks, months or years. It overwhelms all other symptoms and may become the problem in and of itself. It can cause people to lose their appetites, and be exhausted by any physical activity. Many people suffer from chronic pain in the absence of any past injury or evidence of illness. The most common type of chronic pain is from an abnormal function in the nervous system, described as "neuropathic pain." This is a major medical condition, and should be treated accordingly ...
Translocation is the exchange of chromosome segments, usually between nonhomologous chromosomes. There are two primary types of translocations: reciprocal translocations and Robertsonian translocations. A reciprocal translocation occurs when segments from nonhomologous chromosomes break off, with segment attaching to the other chromosome and vice-versa. A Robertsonian translocation occurs when two acrocentric chromosomes (chromosomes with tiny short arms, meaning the centromere is near one end) fuse at the centromere and lose their short arms.. Reciprocal translocations usually involve only two chromosomes, meaning the total chromosome number is unchanged. Reciprocal translocation are typically harmless, despite being more common in individuals so retarded that they require institutional care. There are three kinds of reciprocal translocation: alternate; adjacent-1; and adjacent-2.. Robertsonian translocations lead to a balanced karyotype with only 45 chromosomes. Because acrocentric short arms ...
This study proposes a modified vegetation-dependent temperature-vegetation dryness index (TVDI) model for analyzing regional drought disasters in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Metropolitan Region (BTHMR) of China. First, MODIS monthly normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), land surface temperature (LST) data and land use/cover data (Land cover type2) were pre-processed as a consistent big dataset. The land use/cover data were modified and integrated into six primary types. Then, these land types were used as the base data layer to calculate the TVDI by parameterizing the relationship between the MODIS NDVI and LST data. By emphasizing different types of land uses, this study was able to compare and analyze the differences of the TVDI indices between the entire study area (no consideration of the land types) and the six classified land uses. The soil moisture data were used to validate the modified TVDI values based on different land uses, which confirmed that the modified model more effectively
