Pyloric gland adenoma (PGA) is a rare neoplasm with gastric pyloric gland differentiation that is diagnosed most frequently in the stomach, but also occurs in the duodenum, esophagus, gallbladder, bile duct and rectum. In stomach it accounts for 2.7% of gastric polyps and develop in a background of chronic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia or atrophy, or both. Histologically, pyloric gland adenomas are composed of tightly packed tubules composed of pyloric gland type cells, which are cuboidal or columnar mucus-secreting cells with pale to moderately eosinophilic cytoplasm with absent apical mucin caps. Nuclei are small, round or ovoid, basally located, and often hyperchromatic. Histologically, cells resemble gastric pyloric gland epithelium and Brunner glands. PGA are divided into three categories: those without conventional histological dysplasia, low-grade dysplasia (LGD) and high-grade dysplasia (HGD). Dysplasia is relatively common in pyloric gland adenomas, low- and high-grade dysplasia ...
Effects of Oil from the 2010 Macondo Well Blowout on Marsh Foraminifer by Charlotte A. A. Brunner, Kevin M. Yeager et al.
Foraminifera responded to both heavy and light oiling of marshes relative to unoiled control sites by changes to both standing stock and depth of habitation (DOH) in sediment following the 2010 Macondo well blowout. Push cores were taken from the middle marsh at sites classified as unoiled, lightly oiled, and heavily oiled based on concentrations of total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ([TPAH]). Cores were sliced and stained with rose Bengal to detect live specimens of foraminifera. Short-term, sediment-mixing depths were determined using the penetration depths of excess Th-234, and sedimentary organic carbon and carbonate were measured to distinguish depositional environments. Marsh foraminifera reacted to the highest oil concentration (5,000-18,000 ng/g of TPAH) by reducing standing stock and shortening the DOH compared with the control sites. At a second, less heavily oiled site, foraminifera responded with a shallower DOH, but with a boom in standing stock. Deformed, dead foraminifera occurred in

Underwater endoscopic mucosal resection for adenocarcinoma arising from Brunners gland | Read by QxMD
A 50-year-old asymptomatic man presented for screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a 10-mm semipedunculated type of submucosal tumor (SMT)-like protrusion with slight depression on top in the second portion of the duodenum (Fig. 1a). Narrow-band imaging showed irregular vessels in the depression (Fig. 2a), from which endoscopic biopsy showed adenocarcinoma. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved ...

We previously reported decreased expression of αGlcNAc relative to MUC6 in gastric and pancreatic neoplasms, but its significance in cervical glandular lesions remained unclear. Here, we analyzed MUC5AC, MUC6, αGlcNAc, and p16 expression in 9 lesions of mucinous carcinoma, gastric type with minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (GAS-MDA), 5 of GAS with nonMDA (GAS-nonMDA), 14 of typical lobular endocervical gland hyperplasia (LEGH), and 5 of atypical LEGH (33 total lesions). All 33 were MUC5AC-positive. Moreover, all 14 typical LEGH, 5 atypical LEGH, 8 ...

State ex rel. LetOhioVote.org v. Hon. Jennifer Brunner, Case no. 2009-1310. ISSUE: When the General Assembly has declared that certain provisions included in a legislative enactment are appropriations for the current expenses of the state and therefore are not subject to a referendum by voters, if citizens subsequently submit to the Secretary of State summary petitions seeking to initiate a statewide referendum on that legislative enactment, does the Secretary have a legal duty to process the petitions and commence the referendum process?. BACKGROUND: Section 1c, Article II of the Ohio Constitution provides that, with certain specified exceptions, bills enacted by the General Assembly do not become law until 90 days after they are transmitted by the governor to the Secretary of State. During that 90-day period, any individual or group that wishes to do so has the right to seek the repeal of all or a specified part of a legislative enactment by means of a statewide vote of the people, called a ...
Secretina - Wikipedia, a enciclopedia libre

The Nitrogen Puzzle in the Oceans
Found: The missing piece to solve the N isotope puzzle Prof. Dr. Ben Brunner, one of the three main authors, explains: We can answer this question with the help of stable nitrogen isotopes, by looking at the ratio between the stable isotopes 15N and 14N in the different pools of fixed N and in the produced N2, because different microbial processes leave different N isotope fingerprints; some prefer the light isotope 14N over the heavier isotope 15N, and others do the opposite. Dr. Sergio Contreras, a (paleo) biogeochemist interested in the past and future of the Nitrogen cycling, continues: However, the prerequisite to decipher the N isotope signatures in the environment is to know the isotope fingerprint of the individual nitrogen-loss processes. Prof. Dr. Moritz Lehmann, isotope biogeochemist from the University of Basel, adds: This is where so far, there was a gaping hole in our knowledge. The isotope effects of one major N-loss process, namely anammox, were unknown, and previous ...

Welcome
We have used in situ hybridization to localize expression of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene in the human gastrointestinal tract and associated organs. The stomach exhibits a low level of CFTR expression throughout gastric mucosa. In the small intestine, expression is relatively high in the mucosal epithelium, with a decreasing gradient of expression along the crypt to tip axis. The cells of the Brunners glands express high levels of CFTR mRNA. In addition, there is a small subpopulation of highly positive cells scattered along the epithelium in the duodenum and jejunum, but not in the ileum. These cells do not represent endocrine cells, as determined by lack of colocalization with an endocrine-specific marker. The distribution of CFTR mRNA in the colon is similar to the small intestine, with highest level of expression in the epithelial cells at the base of the crypts. In the pancreas, CFTR is expressed at high levels in the small, intercalated ducts and at ...

AU - Taniguchi, Hirokazu. AU - Tsuda, Hitoshi. AU - Kanai, Yae. PY - 2013/3. Y1 - 2013/3. N2 - Gastric and duodenal adenomas exhibit a significant morphological and phenotypical diversity and are classified into intestinal-type, foveolar-type and pyloric gland adenomas. We analysed the mutations in GNAS, KRAS, BRAF and CTNNB1 and the expressions of mismatch repair (MMR) proteins in 80 gastric and 32 duodenal adenomas with histologically distinct subtypes, as well as in 71 gastric adenocarcinomas. Activating GNAS mutations were found in 22 of the 35 pyloric gland adenomas (PGAs; 63%) but in none of the foveolar-type or intestinal-type adenomas or the adenocarcinomas. Fourteen PGAs (41%), two foveolar-type adenomas (9%), five intestinal-type adenomas (9%) and one adenocarcinoma (1%) had KRAS mutations. BRAF ...
A primary hepatic gastrinoma accompanied by hyperplasia of multi-nodular Brunners glands | Surgical Case Reports | Full Text
In 1955, Zollinger and Ellison reported a syndrome in two patients involving the triad of recurrent peptic ulceration, marked gastric acid hypersecretion, and non-beta pancreatic islet cell tumors [10]. For about 30 years after this report, it had been believed that gastrinomas arose mostly in the pancreas, and sometimes blind pancreatic resections were performed in vain [10-13]. However, in 1987, Imamura et al. reported that the SASI test was useful for localization of gastrinomas, and consequently, it has become a useful guide for curative resection of gastrinomas in patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES) [7]. Since then, curative resection of gastrinomas has been successively performed [9, 14-17], and it has been clearly shown that ZES is caused more frequently by the duodenal gastrinoma than the pancreatic gastrinoma [17-19]. In patients with MEN1 and gastrinoma, almost all gastrinomas arise in the duodenum and are sometimes accompanied by pancreatic gastrinomas [18, 19].. Primary ...

Processing of ultrasound in a bush crickets brain - OSTROWSKI - 2013 - Physiological Entomology - Wiley Online Library
The processing and categorization of conspecific and heterospecific acoustic signals is an important task of the central nervous system. In orthopteran species, carrier frequency (besides temporal cues) is one of the major discriminators. In the bush cricket species Ancistrura nigrovittata Brunner von Wattenwyl (Phaneropteridae, Barbitistini), ultrasound has potentially different meanings and may elicit vastly different behaviours depending on the context it is perceived in. In the present study, data are presented of the morphology and neuronal responses of three local brain neurones (LBNs) that respond best to ultrasound. All neurones show dense arborizations in the lateral protocerebrum, where ascending interneurones terminate. The LBN2 and LBN9 neurones are entirely restricted to one side of the brain, whereas LBN5 crosses the midline, thereby linking both hemispheres. The response maxima for LBN2 overlap closely with the peak carrier frequencies found in a species-specific duet, which ...

Mt. Airy News | Cold cheeks, warm hearts at record breaking Mount Airy 5K
Crossing the finish line with a good time took on new meaning for many participants at the Rosy Cheeks 5K and Kids Jingle Bell Half-Mile Jog on Saturday.. Its more of a fun run than competitive, said Doug Brunner, of Claudeville, a 70-year-old racer dressed as a shorts-wearing Santa Claus.. Its fabulous because you know everyones out there for the same reason, because its a good cause.. The eighth-annual Rosy Cheeks 5K, hosted by the Mount Airy Police Department and Mount Airy Parks and Recreation, serves to benefit the police departments annual toy drive.. Instead of paying a fee, participants in the run donate an unwrapped gift to gain entrance.. Despite temperatures in the low-20s throughout the morning, about 700 people ended up running.. Event organizer Darren Lewis, assistant director of parks and rec for the city, said there were some concerns that the cold might scare some folks away.. It might have had the opposite effect.. It was our largest turnout ever, he said. Its ...

Supercritical extraction of solid matrices. Model formulation and experiments
Reliable mathematical models for supercritical extraction process can be developed that include all these parameters. Mathematical models can be used to generalize the experimental results to new process conditions and extracted materials. Even more, they are useful to develop scale-up procedures from laboratory to pilot and to industrial scale. Different approaches have been proposed to obtain mathematical models that simulate supercritical fluid extraction from solid particles (Brunner, 1994; Reverchon, 1997; Goto et al., 1998). In this work, differential mass balances are used to elaborate a model that takes into account the following mechanisms: i)the dissolution of solid or liquid component into supercritical fluid filling the particle pores, ii)diffusion through porous cellular material and iii)external mass transfer around the solid particle to the main fluid stream. The resulting equations are solved using numerical techniques. Results obtained during the extraction of essential oil from ...

Beyond Pesticides, April 19, 2017) Local activists in Illinois were handed an exciting victory on Monday when a judge granted a temporary restraining order to shut down a construction project due to the presence of the rusty patch bumblebee, a recently listed endangered species. The group Stop Longmeadow, in reference to the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor project, filed the lawsuit, Case: 1:16-cv-05435, based on the fact that the rusty patch bumblebee has been found in the Brunner Forest Preserve, which borders 5.6 miles of the corridor project. The defendants, including the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, argue that the scheduled construction will not affect bumblebee habitat. The court rejected their position, however, siding in the plaintiffs by finding the balance of harms weighs in favor of the plaintiffs and against the publics interest in reduced traffic congestions. The restraining order was ...

GLP-1R is expressed in the small intestine and colon (23,27); however, previous efforts to identify cellular sites of GLP-1R expression within the gut yielded conflicting results. Using a GLP-1R antibody and immunohistochemistry, Kedees et al. (28) reported GLP-1R expression in the intestinal mucosa, enteric nervous system, and Paneth cells, whereas studies using the GLP-1R promoter to direct expression of a fluorescent reporter protein localized intestinal GLP-1R expression to enteric neurons (23). GLP-1Rs have also been localized to gastric parietal cells in rats (29) and in the Brunners gland of the duodenum, parietal cells and smooth muscle cells in the gastric muscularis externa, and myenteric plexus neurons throughout the primate small and large bowel (30). Given the lack of specificity of the majority of commercially available GLP-1R antibodies and existing discrepancies in studies reporting sites of intestinal GLP-1R expression, we initiated studies to localize the sites of endogenous ...
