Imported malaria is relatively rare in industrialized countries. Obtaining a correct diagnosis of malaria may be troublesome in centers where laboratory staff are less skilled in the proper identification and quantification of causative Plasmodium species, as may occur in countries in which malaria is not endemic. These centers often use commercially available rapid diagnostic tests to diagnose malaria. In contrast to our case, Bronner et al. reported that the BinaxNOW Malaria test did not detect a P. knowlesi infection in a traveler from Sweden who had a P. knowlesi infection acquired in Malaysian Borneo (2). Low parasitemia (0.1%) in this patient may have caused the lack of reactivity with the pan-malarial antigen aldolase (2).. We evaluated the BinaxNOW Malaria and the OptiMAL Rapid Malaria (Diamed, Cressier, Switzerland) tests for detection of P. knowlesi in human blood by analysis of consecutive blood samples taken after admission. These samples were stored at -20°C for 2 weeks until tests ...
American Journal of Primatology 65:353-376 (2005) RESEARCH ARTICLE Developmental Changes in the Facial Morphology of the Borneo Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus): Possible Signals in Visual Communication NOKO KUZE1n, TITOL PETER MALIM2, AND SHIRO KOHSHIMA1 1 Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan 2 Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah, Malaysia Orangutans display remarkable developmental changes and sexual differences in facial morphology, such as the flanges or cheek-pads that develop only on the face of dominant adult males. These changes suggest that facial morphology is an important factor in visual communication. However, developmental changes in facial morphology have not been examined in detail. We studied developmental changes in the facial morphology of the Borneo orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) by observing 79 individuals of various ages living in the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SORC) in Malaysia and ...

Sabah: Malaysian wildlife researchers have tagged a Bornean slow loris for the first time as part of efforts to find out more about the nocturnal primate known for its big eyes and rare toxic bite.. The researchers in Sabah state on Borneo island fitted a radio-collar on a recently caught slow loris - a protected species that is threatened by the illegal pet trade - to enable them to study its behaviour. It will give scientists a valuable insight into the animal`s habits, such as where it sleeps and how it hunts for insects, lizards and other prey, they said in a statement on Sunday. As little is known about the Bornean slow loris, particularly in Sabah, any information collected… through tracking through the forest will be important in understanding the species, Benoit Goossens, director of the Danau Girang Field Centre that is spearheading the study, said in the statement. With this study, we also hope to raise the awareness in Sabah on the importance of protecting nocturnal primates as ...

OrangutanOrangutan Kalimantan The orangutans (also spelled orang-utan, orangutang, or orang-utang) are the two exclusively Asian species of extant great apes. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, orangutans are currently found in only the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Classified in the genus Pongo, orangutans were considered to be one species. Since 1996, they have been divided into two species: the Bornean orangutan (P. pygmaeus) and the Sumatran orangutan (P. abelii). In addition, the Bornean species is divided into three subspecies. Based on genome sequencing, the two extant orangutan species evidently diverged around 400,000 years ago. The orangutans are also the only surviving species of the subfamily Ponginae, which also included several other species, such as the three extinct species of the genus Gigantopithecus, including the largest known primate Gigantopithecus blacki. The ancestors of the Ponginae subfamily split from the main ape line in Africa 16 to 19 million years ago (mya) and spread

Tropical forests in Borneo (Brunei Darussalam, Kalimantan, Sabah and Sarawak) are considered as one of the twelve mega biodiversity centres in the world. However, until now, there is no up-to-date or complete documentation on the flora of the island. The Tree Flora of Sabah and Sarawak Project, jointly undertaken by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), the Forestry Department of Sabah and Forestry Department of Sarawak since 1991, is aimed at providing detailed and up-to-date botanical and ecological information on the tree resources of Sabah and Sarawak. Since its implementation, the project has established a close collaboration with and received generous help from botanists from local and international institutions/herbaria around the world. Up to 2007, a total of 1 745 species in 72 families and 267 genera have been revised and published in six volumes of the Tree Flora. These include the discovery and publication of 188 new species in 37 genera and 25 families. In addition, the ...
Receptor to interleukin-8, which is a powerful neutrophils chemotactic factor. Binding of IL-8 to the receptor causes activation of neutrophils. This response is mediated via a G-protein that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. This receptor binds to IL-8 with a high affinity and to MGSA (GRO) with a low affinity (By similarity).
Author Summary The simian parasite Plasmodium knowlesi is a common cause of malaria in Malaysian Borneo; however, little is known about its emergence over time, particularly in Sabah. We reviewed all available Sabah Department of health malaria notification records from 1992-2011, and considered notifications of P. malariae and P. knowlesi as a single group due to their microscopic similarity. We found that malaria notifications in Sabah have decreased dramatically, with P. falciparum and P. vivax notifications peaking at 33,153 and 15,877 respectively during 1994-1995, and falling to 605 and 628 respectively in 2011. Notifications of P. malariae/P. knowlesi fell from a peak of 614 in 1994 to ≈100/year in the late 1990s/early 2000s, however increased |10-fold between 2004 (n = 59) and 2011 (n = 703). In 1992 P. falciparum, P. vivax and P. malariae/P. knowlesi monoinfections accounted for 70%, 24% and 1% respectively of malaria notifications, compared to 30%, 31% and 35% in 2011. The increase in P.

In 2004 a large focus of Plasmodium knowlesi malaria was reported in the human population in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. Plasmodium knowlesi, a parasite of the South-East Asian macaques (Macaca fascicularis and Macaca nemestrina), had entered the human population. Plasmodium knowlesi is transmitted by the leucosphyrus group of Anopheline mosquitoes and transmission is largely zoonotic and restricted to the jungle setting. Humans entering jungle transmission sites are at risk. Since 2004, human cases of P. knowlesi have been continuously reported in local communities and in travellers returning from South East Asia. Plasmodium knowlesi is the most common type of indigenous malaria reported in Malaysia. Infections are most often uncomplicated but at least 10% of patients report with severe malaria and 1-2% of cases have a fatal outcome. Parasitaemia is positively associated with the clinical and laboratory markers of severe malaria. The current literature on P. knowlesi, including epidemiology, ...

Human infections with Plasmodium knowlesi, a malaria parasite of long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques, were thought to be extremely rare until a large focus of human infections were reported in the Kapit division of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo in 2004. Macaques in the Kapit division also harbour P. cynomolgi, P. inui, P. simiovale, P. coatneyi, and P. fieldi. Under experimental conditions P. cynomolgi and P. inui can infect humans, and there has been one previous case of a naturally-acquired human infection with P. cynomolgi in Peninsular Malaysia, and recent cases of P. cynomolgi in asymptomatic individuals in Cambodia. The aim of the study was to determine whether human infections with P. cynomolgi and P. inui also occur in Sarawak. DNA extracted from blood samples obtained from malaria patients at Kapit Hospital were screened with nested PCR assays using species-specific primers directed at P. knowlesi, P. cynomolgi, P. inui, P. coatneyi and P. fieldi. The screening exercise indicated the ...
The simian parasite Plasmodium knowlesi causes severe human malaria; the optimal treatment remains unknown. We describe the clinical features, disease spectrum, and response to antimalarial chemotherapy, including artemether-lumefantrine and artesunate, in patients with P. knowlesi malaria diagnosed by PCR during December 2007-November 2009 at a tertiary care hospital in Sabah, Malaysia. Fifty-six patients had PCR-confirmed P. knowlesi monoinfection and clinical records available for review. Twenty-two (39%) had severe malaria; of these, 6 (27%) died. Thirteen (59%) had respiratory distress; 12 (55%), acute renal failure; and 12, shock. None experienced coma. Patients with uncomplicated disease received chloroquine, quinine, or artemether-lumefantrine, and those with severe disease received intravenous quinine or artesunate. Parasite clearance times were 1-2 days shorter with either artemether-lumefantrine or artesunate treatment. P. knowlesi is a major cause of severe and fatal malaria in Sabah.

A summary of the aroids of Malesia at the rank of genus and above is offered, covering 44 indigenous genera. Four additional genera (Caladium Vent., Dieffenbachia Schott, Syngonium Schott, and Xanthosoma Schott) are recorded as adventives. The aroid flora of Malesia currently encompasses 1105 indigenous species, with this figure based significantly on understanding of the flora of a few well-studied areas such as Peninsular Malaysia, Jawa , and parts of Malaysian Borneo. Large areas that remain very poorly known include Kalimantan (comprising more than 70% of the land surface area of Borneo), Sumatera, and much of the island of New Guinea. It is estimated that the total will readily exceed 1900 species. General notes on life-forms and taxonomically important morphologies are provided, together with a glossary. A key to Malesian aroid taxa at the rank of genus and above is presented.. ...
Heterotrophic respiration is a major component of the soil C balance however we critically lack understanding of its variation upon conversion of peat swamp forests in tropical areas. Our research focused on a primary peat swamp forest and two oil palm plantations aged 1 (OP2012) and 6 years (OP2007). Total and heterotrophic soil respiration were monitored over 13 months in paired control and trenched plots. Spatial variability was taken into account by differentiating hummocks from hollows in the forest; close to palm from far from palm positions in the plantations.
Without oil, there may be little to expect from Bruneis economy. The nation also risks walking the same destructive path that Greece once took.. By Joelyn Chan. For decades, oil has been an integral part of Bruneis economy. As with all finite resources, oil will run out eventually. Brunei tries to stay in the game by exploring projects relating to renewable energy. However, things have been getting tough for energy-rich Brunei. The nation struggles with dwindling profits, territorial disputes in the sea and output limits imposed by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).. Bruneis restricted oil supply. Projections by various oil companies and research reports differ, but the general consensus is that oil reserves are projected to run out in the next 20 to 30 years. When that happens, Bruneis economy will take a hit. Oil and gas sector contribution to the countrys gross domestic product (GDP) has already fallen from 63.3% in 2014 to an estimated 50% these ...

A key challenge for tropical conservation biologists is to assess how forest management practices affect biodiversity and associated ecosystem functions. Dung beetles (Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) provide an ideal focal guild for such studies. We compared dung beetle assemblages and experimentally assessed rates of dung removal and seed burial in undisturbed forest, low-intensity selectively logged forest under sustainable forest management, and high-intensity logged forest, not under sustainable management in Malaysian Borneo. In total, 7923 individuals from 39 species of dung beetle were collected. There were no significant differences in abundance, biomass or diversity across sites. Species richness was significantly lower in the high-intensity logged sites. Beta diversity was low: of 35 species recorded in undisturbed forest sites, 32 were also captured in low-intensity sites and 29 in high-intensity sites. The environmental and vegetation variables measured had little influence on species

Malaysia has something like 200 species of frogs. Of these, there were two that I really hoped to see on my first trip to this country. But I had gotten many chances to see him in action in Peninsular Malaysia, finding frogs of similar size and lifestyle, and I had picked up the basic tricks of the trade. I knew these Long-nosed Horned Frogs to be reasonably common at Kubah, and armed with my newfound experience I had a pretty good idea where and when and how to go looking for them. Ponginae is a subfamily in the family Hominidae. Once a diverse lineage of Eurasian apes, the subfamily has only one extant genus (Pongo, the orangutans) which contains three extant species: the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii), the Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis,) and the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus). The Sumatran and Bornean orangutan are listed as critically endangered by the IUCN - the less populous Tapanuli orangutan has yet to be officially listed. The first pongine genera appear in the Miocene, Sivapithecus and Khoratpithecus, six or seven million years before evidence of orangutans was found from Pleistocene south-east Asia and southern China. Ponginae may also include the genera Lufengpithecus, Ankarapithecus, and Gigantopithecus. However phylogenetic analysis in 2004 which originally found Lufengpithecus and Ankarapithecus to be most closely related to the orangutan gave different results under an analytical method that attempted to reduce stratigraphic incongruence, ...
Welcome to the family of critters with sequenced genomes, orangutans. In Nature this week, scientists unveil the draft DNA sequencing of our great ape cousins-the only great apes that live exclusively in Asia.. The researchers assembled the draft genome of the female Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) using a whole-genome shotgun strategy, an old-fashioned approach that cost about $20 million. In addition, the researchers gathered sequence data from five wild Sumatran orangutans and five Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) using a faster and thousandfold cheaper next-generation platform. [LiveScience]. What did scientists find in there? For one thing, orangutans share about 97 percent of the their genome with humans, compared to the 99 percent we famously share with chimpanzees. In 1946, Singapore became a British Crown Colony. However, the communist insurgency in Malaya of 1948 put Singapore in a state of emergency for 12 years. There was a rise of nationalism during the 1950s as the merchant classes wanted to have a say in government and in 1959 Singapore was granted self-government under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew. In 1963 Singapore merged with Federated Malaya and the Borneo states of Sarawak and North Borneo (Sabah) to create Malaysia. The third Borneo state of Brunei opted for independence. This merger was actively opposed by the neighboring states of Indonesia and the Philippines. Singapore was particularly hard hit by the loss of its Indonesian barter trade. Indonesian commandos conducted armed raids into Sabah and Sarawak, and Singaporean fishing boats were seized by Indonesian gunboats. Indonesian terrorists bombed the Ambassador Hotel on September 24, beginning a year of terrorism and propaganda aimed at creating communal unrest in Singapore. Singapore as ...

1. The coastal peat swamp forests of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, are undergoing rapid conversion, predominantly into oil palm plantations. This wetland ecosystem is assumed to have experienced insignificant disturbance in the past, persisting under a single ecologically-stable regime. However, there is limited knowledge of the past disturbance regime, long-term functioning and fundamentally the resilience of this ecosystem to changing natural and anthropogenic perturbations through time. 2. In this study, long-term ecological data sets from three degraded peatlands in Sarawak were collected to shed light on peat swamp forest dynamics. Fossil pollen and charcoal were counted in each sedimentary sequence to reconstruct vegetation and investigate responses to past environmental disturbance, both natural and anthropogenic. 3. Results demonstrate that peat swamp forest taxa have dominated these vegetation profiles throughout the last c. 2000-year period despite the presence of various drivers of disturbance.
From the 14th to the 16th centuries Brunei Darussalam was the seat of a powerful sultanate extending over Sabah, Sarawak and the southern Philippines. Thus, the current Sultan represents one of the oldest continuously ruling dynasties in the world. By the 19th century, the Brunei Darussalam Empire had been whittled away by wars, piracy and the colonial expansion of European powers.. In 1847, the sultan ended a treaty with Great Britain and in 1888 Brunei Darussalam officially became a British protectorate. In 1906, the Residential System was established in Brunei Darussalam. A British Resident was nominated as a representative of the British government to advise the sultan in all matters except Malay customs, traditions and Islamic religion.. The 1959 Agreement established a written constitution which gave Brunei Darussalam internal self-government. In 1971, the agreement was amended and revised to assert full internal independence except defence and external affairs.. In 1967 His Highness ...
Remember that orchids are actually wild plants from the jungles where light and weather conditions are very different from urban settings. Orchids are neither parasitic nor carnivorous. They need a continuous supply of fresh air, diffused light and some water. The temperature is best around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.. We tend to believe that orchids dwell on trees but there are also many terrestrial orchids such as cymbidiums and cypripediums that grow naturally on the forest ground, while some actually thrive on bare rock crevices. I know some locals and foreigners who seek out new mother plants in our jungles. Trees in the jungle provide good growing conditions of fresh air, sunlight and even protection from being eaten by animals when the orchids grow above ground level.. It was not until hobbyists grew orchids artificially in temperate countries in the 19th century that skills and botanical knowledge grew of the correct conditions to keep plants successfully. Many would keep the secret ...

Brunei finished in the top 10 of the Asian Cities Chess Team Championship (Dubai Cup), an achievement which the national coach touted as a first in Brunei chess history. The Sultanate sent the foursome of Siti Nur Fatimah Al-Zuhra Hj Azahari, Pg Kamarunsalehin Pg Kamis, Md Aliuddin Hj Azahari and Amir Fakhry Hj Sulaiman to compete in the 18-team, nine-round competition in Tagaytay City, Philippines. The team won four matches - beating opponents from Kuwait, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka and Dubai - and lost five. The Philippines team of Grand Master Oliver Barbosa, GM Mark Paragua, GM John Paul Gomez and GM Darwin Laylo eventually won the tournament. Brunei National Chess Coach Tahir Vakhidov, a grand master himself, noted the teams achievement was made despite the absence of the Sultanates top player. We are happy that without Brunei top player FM (FIDE Master) Yee Soon Wei, the team managed to finish in top 10 of this competition, Vakhidov said. It is first time in Brunei chess history the ...

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Sumatran Rhinos first scientific description. In 1814 German biologist Johann Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim, provided a scientific description of the Asian two-horned, hairy or Sumatran rhinoceros. Once plentiful and widespread from India to Borneo, Sumatran rhinos have been around for a lot longer than two centuries of course, but experts believe today fewer than 100 animals survive in three Indonesian national parks: Bukit Barisan Selatan, Gunung Leuser and Way Kambas on the island of Sumatra. Centuries of hunting and habitat loss both fragmented and drastically reduced its populations, however, with Sumatra remaining the last bastion of hope for its recovery as a species.. ...
Author Summary We present a hidden Markov model that uses variation in coalescence times between two distantly related populations, or closely related species, to infer population genetics parameters in ancestral population or species. The model infers the divergence times in segments along the alignment. Using coalescent simulations, we show that the model accurately estimates the divergence time between the two populations and the effective population size of the ancestral population. We apply the model to the recently sequenced orangutan sub-species and estimate their divergence time and the effective population size of their ancestor population.
Abstract: Together with the islands of Sumatra (Indonesia) and Borneo (Indonesia, Malaysia), the Philippines are the main center of diversity for carnivorous pitcher plants of the genus, Nepenthes L. Nepenthes are the largest of all carnivorous plants, and the species with the biggest pitchers are capable of trapping and digesting small amphibians and even mammals. The central cordillera of Mindanao Island in the south of the Philippines is mostly covered with old, primary forest and is the largest remaining cohesive, untouched area of wilderness in the Philippines. In a recent field exploration of two areas of the central cordillera, namely Mount Sumagaya and a section of the Pantaron range, four new taxa of Nepenthes were discovered. These four remarkable new species, N. pantaronensis, N. cornuta, N. talaandig and N. amabilis, are described, illustrated and assessed.. ...
The objectives of the present study were to determine the prevalence of foot and mouth disease (FMD) and the serotypes of foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) in Malaysia; to describe the temporal and spatial distribution of FMD in Malaysia; to evaluate the risk of the introduction of FMD to Malaysia; to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation strategies adopted in Malaysia during outbreaks of FMD; and ultimately to give recommendations on FMD control to the Malaysia-Thailand-Myanmar (MTM) Tri-state Commission and Zoning Working Groups.. The first documented outbreak of FMD in Peninsular Malaysia was in the 1860s and, although there have been periods where no outbreaks have been reported, the disease is now endemic in Peninsular Malaysia. Serotypes A, O and Asia 1 have been involved in the outbreaks of FMD in Peninsular Malaysia. In contrast the states of Sabah and Sarawak, located on Borneo have never had a reported outbreak of FMD. The virus strains involved in outbreaks in Peninsular Malaysia ...
Scientists and conservationists consider the Leuser Ecosystem to be among the most important forests left in Southeast Asia, particularly because it is the last place of sufficient size and quality to support viable populations of rare species like Sumatran tigers, orangutans, rhinos, elephants, clouded leopards and sun bears.. At least 105 mammal species, 382 bird species, and 95 reptile and amphibian species, including clouded leopards, hornbills and the largest flowers in the world, can be found in the teeming forests of the Leuser Ecosystem. Formerly known as the Emerald Island, Sumatras once lush forest landscapes are now largely gone, destroyed by decades of industrial encroachment.. The Sumatran orangutan is at extreme risk of becoming the first great ape to go extinct in the wild. The last major stands of habitat for the Sumatran orangutan are found in the Leuser Ecosystem, which supports about 75 percent of the worlds remaining population. In order to save the Sumatran orangutan ...

Aroid is the common name for members of the Araceae family of plants, sometimes known as the Philodendron or Arum family. The sometimes beautiful and sometimes bizarre combination of spathe and spadix known as the inflorescence, and sometimes referred to as a flower, is a distinguishing feature of all aroids. The mission of the International Aroid Society is to provide information, assist in the distribution of unusual species and provide fellowship to everyone with an appreciation for this wonderful plant family.
Since December 2004, it is no longer possible to stay on the island of Sipadan. Divers access the dive sites around the island with a quick journey across the strait from Palau Mabul and Palau Kapalai by boat.. There is a daily cap on Sipadan permits of 120 visitors per day. Permits are applied for daily and cannot be guaranteed, with the exception of the SMART Divers package (see below). However, it is very likely on a 6-7 night stay that you will have the chance to visit Sipadan at least once over 5 days diving. We would like to, but are not in a position to guarantee any Sipadan visits and prefer to be honest. The longer your stay, the better the chance of increasing the amount of times you dive Sipadan. Sipadan permits - staying on Mabul: SMART Divers package - based on the diver package for a minimum of 6 nights stay in a detached chalet - will include the application and cost of 1 Sipadan permit. Any additional visits, or if booking fewer nights or a standard chalet, is subject to ...
Athletes, support staff and media are subject to strict COVID-19 protocols, including regular testing and daily health checks.. The restrictions made for an opening ceremony that was far from the usual exuberant celebration.. Every athlete entered the stadium wearing a mask, and the national delegations of athletes marching around the stadium were far smaller than usual, ranging from just a handful of people to a few dozen.. The ceremony wove together references to both Japans traditional crafts and its globally adored video games, with athletes entering to theme music from famed titles.. Polls have consistently shown Japanese people are opposed to holding the Games during the pandemic, but hundreds of people still gathered outside the stadium and cheered as the fireworks exploded overhead.. Mako Fukuhara arrived six hours before the ceremony to grab a spot.. Until now it didnt feel like the Olympics, but now we are by the stadium, it feels like the Olympics, she told AFP as people snapped ...

Dengue and malaria are two common, mosquito-borne infections, which may lead to mortality if not managed properly. Concurrent infections of dengue and malaria are rare due to the different habitats of its vectors and activities of different carrier mosquitoes. The first case reported was in 2005. Since then, several concurrent infections have been reported between the dengue virus (DENV) and the malaria protozoans, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. Symptoms of each infection may be masked by a simultaneous second infection, resulting in late treatment and severe complications. Plasmodium knowlesi is also a common cause of malaria in Malaysia with one of the highest rates of mortality. This report is one of the earliest in literature of concomitant infection between DENV and P. knowlesi in which a delay in diagnosis had placed a patient in a life-threatening situation. A 59-year old man staying near the Belum-Temengor rainforest at the Malaysia-Thailand border was admitted with fever ...

Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) or Hepatopancreatic Acute Necrosis Syndrome is a fairly new disease that affects shrimp.. The disease was first seen in China in 2009, before it spread to Viet Nam in 2010, Malaysia and Northern Borneo in 2011 and Thailand in 2012. In 2013, EMS was reported for the first time outside Asia, showing up in Mexico - due to imports of infected live shrimps from Asia.. Research by the University of Arizona has identified that the disease is caused by the bacterial agent Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which is transmitted orally and colonises the shrimps gastrointestinal tract. This then produces a toxin that causes tissue destruction and dysfunction of the shrimp digestive organ known as the hepatopancreas.. A research team from Kinki University and the National Research Institute of Aquaculture in Japan, have also identified the trigger for EMS. The team found that EMS manifests in ponds when there is an increase in pH to 8.5-8.8.. ...

Someone once told me that roads in a forest are like veins - once opened they can end up draining the forest of life. When APP builds a concession in tiger habitat, it not only destroys the forest the tiger would normally roam, sleep and hunt in - the roads it builds to carry away the timber also let in all kinds of other disruptions. People come and lay traps to hunt other animals, and even if they dont mean to interfere with the tiger, they do. When their traditional habitat is destroyed tigers must roam even further for food and shelter, which often brings them closer to forest communities and causes more conflict.. APP must stop relying on further clearance of rainforest for its business. Destruction of rainforests in Indonesia must stop to protect animals like the Sumatran tiger, minimize the negative consequences for forest communities, and for Indonesia to be able to cut its carbon emissions contributing to climate change, most of which come from deforestation ...
