Barrie a while back and it has the nicest handrawn bookplate in it. So it inspired me to design my own bookplate and print a bunch on Avery label stock. Now Im thinking that I should have paid attention to whether the labels are acid-free. I have only put them in new books, thats my rule for some reason. Catering for fancy parties is one of Ashlees favourite things in life.. The many children in attendance enjoyed playing under an adjacent tent in the pirate ship ball pit and with the building blocks shared by Ashlee and Tys godson for the duration of the party. Some of the adults also joined in with the fun when the lightweight balls turned into projectiles.. The books were soon lined up at the signing table, with one of the poster prints of Chapter Twelves illustration displayed for all to see. Guests came to receive their copy of The Damning Moths, as well as their pre-order bonus poster and signed bookplate. London: For the Author, 1783-4. 3 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. A particularly attractive 18th century full calf binding with gilt raised bands, green and red labels and delightful gilt floral tooling to the panels. The boards, which are somewhat soiled, are framed with triple fillets. Slight staining to the text block of volume 3 which has not swollen the shape of the binding at all. Thomas Davies had a successful career as an actor before setting up as a bookseller in Covent Garden, his shop becoming a meeting place for the theatrical and literary world. It was in the back parlour of his shop that Boswell first met Johnson. In the 1770s Davies turned to writing, particularly biographies. His most important biography was Memoirs of the Life of David Garrick which was published in 1780. Despite some staining this is still a most attractive example of this work.
