A train of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is seen at the Mombasa Railway Station in Mombasa, Kenya, on June 1, 2018. The Chinese-built Mombasa-Nairobi SGR of some 480 kilometers has attained an occupancy rate of over 95 percent while reducing the time between Kenyas two biggest cities by half to five hours. An estimated 1.3 million Kenyans have commuted between Nairobi and Mombasa by the SGR train since its launch on May 31 last year. (Xinhua/Wang Teng) ...
Adult patients on prolonged acute mechanical ventilation (PAMV) comprise 1/3 of all adult MV patients, consume 2/3 of hospital resources allocated to MV population, and are nearly twice as likely to require a discharge to a skilled nursing facility (SNF). Their numbers are projected to double by year 2020. To aid in planning for this growth, we projected their annualized days and costs of hospital use and SNF discharges in year 2020 in the US. We constructed a model estimating the relevant components of hospital utilization. We computed the total days and costs for each component; we also applied the risk for SNF discharge to the total 2020 PAMV population. The underlying assumption was that process of care does not change over the time horizon. We performed Monte Carlo simulations to establish 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the point estimates. Given 2020 projected PAMV volume of 605,898 cases, they will require 3.6 (95% CI 2.7-4.8) million MV, 5.5 (95% CI 4.3-7.0) million ICU and 10.3 (95% CI 8.1
A New Psychiatric Subspecialty?May 30, 2013).. The authors listed all sorts of ways of spreading joy (not least because procedures make heaps more money than just sitting there listening to people). Their list included:. -Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (relatively harmless except for the cost). They said: "A recent multisite, naturalistic, observational study of acute treatment outcomes in clinical practice demonstrated greater than 50% efficacy in sicker populations using TMS." Interesting. Placebos usually give about 54% improvement, so it isnt going very far backwards.. -ECT (of course). By the way, after 36yrs of working alone in the most difficult parts of this (admittedly difficult) country, I have to point out that I never use ECT. Never. In both psychiatric hospitals where I was chief psychiatrist, ECT stopped for the duration of my stay, and bed occupancy rates went down. As soon as I left, the ECT was resumed and occupancy rates went back to normal. Nursing unions were greatly ...
During the quarter, net new unit demand totaled 4,977 units, the greatest number of new units in any quarter since NIC began reporting the data in 2006. At the same time, the quarterly change in the number of units added to existing inventory slowed to 3,832 units, the fewest since mid-2016. The data suggest a possible slowdown in new senior housing construction.. NIC data also show that assisted living occupancy increased to 85.4 percent in the third quarter, from a previous record low of 85.1 percent for the past three quarters, as relatively robust demand outpaced new inventory growth. The occupancy rate for independent living increased to 90.2 percent in the third quarter, 10 basis points higher than year-earlier levels, but below its rate earlier in 2019.. "The data suggest strong consumer demand for assisted living and independent living, which supported the overall increase in the national occupancy rate that weve experienced," says Beth Burnham Mace, NICs chief economist. "Meanwhile, ...

Operating metrics lack improvement: (1) ILL added three new properties during the quarter (it has a presence in 57 cities) and seven new screens, taking the total number of properties to 107 with 420 screens and 108,931 seats. The lower than expected addition was on account of some regulatory issues. (2) The average ticket price (ATP) increased by 5.7% YoY to Rs167, the food & beverages spending per head (SPH) increased by 9.4% YoY to Rs58 while the occupancy rate grew by 300 basis points (BPS) YoY at 23% and fell by 500BPS sequentially. The management expects the occupancy rate to be in the range of 29-30% going ahead and the ATP to increase 5-6%. (3) The advertising revenue per screen declined by 13% YoY to 0.49 million on account of a weaker quarter and a price hike during the fag end of the third quarter of FY2016 (it takes a longer time for customers to absorb hikes). (4) The entertainment tax increased to 18.6% as compared with 16.9% in Q4FY2015, led by six properties falling out of tax ...
The latest PHE figures, released yesterday, also show there were 10 outbreaks in hospitals - all of which led to ward closures or restrictions.. Professor Nick Phin, of PHE, previously said: Those who get infected with norovirus will usually make a full recovery within one to two days.. However, it is important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, especially in the very young or elderly. Good hygiene is essential to preventing infection. This includes thorough hand washing after using the toilet and before eating or preparing foods.. An unprecedented winter ahead Earlier this week NHS Providers, which represents hospital trusts, said hospitals will be sorely tested this winter.. Its comments were provoked by chief executives of two hospitals who admitted their bed occupancy rates are 98 per cent and 99 per cent respectively.. And concerned doctors warned patients will have to sleep, take paracetamol and pray ahead of the impending winter crisis.. The NHS is expected to face ...

by TimH , Jan 15, 2013. In previous research, studies have documented significant links between length of stay (LOS) over 24-hour periods and hospital occupancy, the number of ED admissions, and other factors. In the May 2012 Western Journal of Emergency Medicine, my colleagues and I published a study that looked at LOS in more discreet time periods than what earlier analyses have reported. We did this because ED crowding and volume can vary greatly during a given 24-hour period. We wanted to find out which factors were associated with LOS and whether this relationship was present during all or only specific 8-hour shifts. In our analysis, independent variables were measured during three 8-hour shifts. Shift 1 was from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, shift 2 was from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and shift 3 was from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. For each shift, the numbers of ED nurses on duty, discharges, discharges on the previous shift, resuscitation cases, admissions and ICU admissions, and LOS on the previous shift, ...
QS+CARE™ is a real-time bed occupancy and movement activity monitor with health data tracking. It can improve senior care outcome and reduce costs. Many challenges are faced in senior care today. One out of five falls can cause serious injury such as a fractured hip or head trauma. QS+CARE provides real-time bed occupancy data and alerts to help reduce falls.. It is often difficult to detect changes in the health of a resident, especially those with memory problems. Tracking of heart and breathing rates and movement activity in sleep can help monitor these changes and allow for early intervention.. Night-time nursing staff often have a tremendous workload which may contribute to stress, an endemic problem that can lead to work-related sick leave, health problems, and a decrease in efficiency.. "QS+CARE™ is new digital health solution that tackles many of the todays problems in senior care".. ...
Timeline: July 2014 - May 2015. Background. The new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a 37,612 gross sq ft unit on the fourth floor of the North Building on the University of Maryland Medical Center campus. Products specified to satisfy the cabling needs were flexible hand bendable cable tray and basket style high capacity cable tray. The design was incorporated into the electrical drawings to facilitate installation by the electrical contractor. The new NICU substantially expanded capacity and improved patient accommodations. The old NICU had 40 patient care spaces organized into five patient care areas in a 12,500 +/- sq ft unit in South Hospital. Four areas were ward-like rooms with seven patients per room allocated according diagnostic/treatment specialty. The fifth area was the step-down area, a suite of adjoining rooms for 12 more mature babies. Before the new space, volume at the NICU was 500 patients per year, with an average stay of 27 days, and a 95% occupancy rate. The new NICU ...
Rent growth was up slightly but numbers otherwise were generally dim for nursing home market indicators in the fourth quarter of 2015. The occupancy rate for skilled nursing facilities decreased 0.1% during the fourth quarter of 2015, according to data released late Wednesday by the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care.

Venezuelans get sick once they cross the border… because they are locked up without tools to protect themselves from the virus and without hygienic conditions. They are confined in crowded areas where the rate of infection is higher," he said.. The congressman warned that the average occupancy rate of intensive care centers nationwide is 40%, but that in some states it has already reached 100% of its capacity to care for those infected. Such are the cases of the Hospital José Gregorio Hernández, in Amazonas; the Hospital Universitario de Los Andes, in Mérida; the Hospital Luis Razetti, in Anzoátegui, with only two beds and two occupied ventilators; the Hospital Militar de Maracay, in Aragua; the Hospital Universitario Dr. Alfredo Van Grieken and the Hospital Calles Sierra, located in the state of Falcón.. The parliamentarian said that Maduro continues to lie and manipulate information about the development of the disease in the country: "The regime announces the death of 71 Venezuelans ...
Houlton Regional Hospital will close its nursing home wing later this month, eliminating 28 long-term care beds and putting additional strain on a 90 percent occupancy rate among Maines nursing homes.. The Penobscot Nursing Home and Northern Bay Residential Care in the Hancock County town of Penobscot are financially solvent again after being placed in receivership in 2008. However, they still face the challenges of underfunded MaineCare reimbursements and a rapidly growing senior population that has more acute physical and mental health needs.. "Were paying our bills," said Irving Faunce, the administrator who was appointed to steer the Penobscot facilities out of the red.. "But MaineCare reimbursements havent increased for several years, which means its very difficult to generate a positive bottom line," Faunce said.. Meanwhile, the spectrum of geriatric health issues that assisted-living facilities and nursing homes are dealing with is larger than ever, Faunce said. Many long-term care ...
Summary: Frasers Commercial Trust (FCOT) has essentially locked in robust growth for FY14 with lower interest costs and the redemption of its 321.9m Series A Convertible Perpetual Preferred Units (CPPUs) this year. In addition, we expect FCOT to gain from its growth initiatives embarked over the past year. For one, FCOT has completed the Precinct Master Plan and asset enhancement works for the office tower at China Square Central, and is likely to benefit from improved occupancy and higher secured rentals going forward. Moreover, FCOT has successfully completed the renewal of 511,000 sqft of the underlying leases at Alexandra Technopark and has achieved positive rental reversion of 17.4% at the property. According to the latest report by DTZ, we also note that sequential rental increments were seen within the CBD in 3Q13 on the back of better occupancy rates. This is consistent with our view that office leasing activity is likely to remain healthy. We maintain our BUY rating on FCOT with a ...
Operational expenses for energy, water, and other utilities are based on consumption, current rates, and price projections. Because energy, and to some extent water consumption, and building configuration and building envelope are interdependent, energy and water costs are usually assessed for the building as a whole rather than for individual building systems or components.. Energy usage: Energy costs are often difficult to predict accurately in the design phase of a project. Assumptions must be made about use profiles, occupancy rates, and schedules, all of which impact energy consumption. At the initial design stage, data on the amount of energy consumption for a building can come from engineering analysis or from a computer program such as eQuest. EnergyPlus™ (DOE) and DOE-2 require more detailed input not usually available until later in the design process. Other software packages, such as the proprietary programs TRACE (Trane), ESPRE (EPRI), and HAP (Carrier) have been developed to ...

Though convention and civic centers in the district appear to have emerged from the recession relatively unscathed, the continued expansion of convention space nationwide-and in the district-could eventually take a toll. On the national level, available exhibit space increased by 12.3 million square feet-a 20 percent jump-between August 2000 and July 2003, according to a recent report by the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau and consultant PriceWaterhouseCoopers. That growth is expected to continue, although at a slower rate; an additional 5.9 million square feet are expected by the year 2006. While additional space by itself might not constitute a problem, when combined with a slow-growing events market, that additional capacity may predictably translate to lower occupancy rates as distended existing facilities compete with brand new complexes for essentially the same number of events. To date, smaller convention markets seem to be faring better than their more prestigious counterparts. ...

Heaven on Earth". There is a place in India where there are no barriers to morphine. But even here - at the CIPLA Palliative Care Center in the city of Pune - there are challenges.. You dont see the challenges when you walk through the cool courtyard gardens with fountains and manicured walkways, or in the beautiful whitewashed buildings with large airy wards, each named for a flower.. "This is heaven on Earth," says Asha Dikshit, whose mother came here last year in the last stages of breast cancer.. "She was in agony. Her shoulder had dislocated, it could not be fixed back," says Dikshit. "She had pain in the back, and sometimes there were hallucinations.". But she says her mother died - peacefully - on morphine.. Every patient here has cancer, and the care is free. Indian generic drug manufacturer CIPLA supplies the morphine and pays all the other expenses.. But even with all the center offers, the occupancy rate runs at only about 60 percent. One big reason, says director Priya Kulkarni, is ...

Definition of Hospital bed density: This entry provides the number of hospital beds per 1,000 people; it serves as a general measure of inpatient service availability. Hospital beds include inpatient beds available in public, private, general, and specialized hospitals and rehabilitation centers. In most cases, beds for both acute and chronic care are included. Because the level of inpatient services required for individual countries depends on several factors - such as demographic issues and the burden of disease - there is no global target for the number of hospital beds per country. So, while 2 beds per 1,000 in one country may be sufficient, 2 beds per 1,000 in another may be woefully inadequate because of the number of people hospitalized by disease ...
Bed days are defined as spending one-half or more days in bed because of injury or illness, excluding hospitalization. Among adults with doctor-diagnosed arthritis in 2012, 22.4 million, or 9.5% of the entire adult population experienced bed days. These individuals reported an average of 24.0 bed days in the past 12 months. This is far higher than the 14.5 bed days reported by adults with any medical condition. This resulted in 537.6 million bed days overall, or 53% of the 1 trillion bed days among adults reporting any medical condition. Females and those 75 years and older had higher than average bed days. During the half year, rental income grew by 69.9% to $6.710 million (H12018: $3.949 million). This was mainly due to rent reviews, improved occupancy levels, improved turnover rentals on retail space and exchange gains on foreign currency denominated business. Occupancy levels improved by 8.4% to 82.8% (HY2018: 74.4%). Property expenses were up 62.11% for the period, on the back of high maintenance and operating costs. The operating expenditure rose across the board as suppliers pegged their prices to prevailing exchange rates. Net property income rose by 68.49% to $5.365 million (HY 2018: $3.184 million) due to the uplift in rental incomes. Administration expenses rose by 82.13% to $2.470 million from $1.356 million in June 2018…. DIVIDEND ...

Several of the interstates in and around Atlanta have a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane on the far left, separated by a double white line and marked with diamonds. These lanes are for vehicles with 2 or more people (including the driver), motorcycles, and clean fuel vehicles (which must be licensed with an alternative fuel license plate). They are in effect 24/7, and there is a hefty fine if youre caught using the HOV lanes when youre not eligible.. The HOV lanes can only be entered or exited where the double white line is dashed, not solid, although this is rarely enforced.. There are a few highway entrances and exits on the left which are only usable if you are eligible for the HOV lanes. (Your satnav may not realize this, but that excuse wont get you out of a ticket.). Atlanta is also experimenting with High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes, which visitors will find less helpful. They are similar to the HOV lanes, but vehicles with 1 or 2 occupants can use the lanes by paying a variable-price ...
Faculty Technology, Policy and Management. Department Systems Engineering. Programme Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management. Date 2012-09-27. Abstract Due to rising costs and an increasing demand for health care services Dutch hospitals are looking for ways to reduce costs while maintaining or increasing the level of patient satisfaction. Reducing variation in bed occupation in common nursing wards could save costs by reducing the amount of required beds and nurse staffing, and increase quality of care by stabilizing the nurse workload. Adjusting current OR schedules offers potential to reduce variation because they have often been developed without explicit consideration for the wards due to the uncertain relationship between them. The main research question is therefor How can the management of Dutch hospitals implement adjustments to the operating room schedule in order to reduce the variability of bed occupancy in the patient wards?. The variability in bed occupation can be ...
My Lords, is the Minister aware that the action that is being taken on the staffing in A&E 1 Feb 1996 : Column 1555. departments, although welcome, does not help the situation regarding beds? Is she further aware that the high prevalence of MRSA in acute hospitals at the moment is not only a risk to individual patients but also to the capacity of those hospitals to deal with their patient workload? Further, is the Minister aware that the intense pressure on bed occupancy at the moment is not only a contributing factor to the prevalence of MRSA, but also the infection exacerbates the problem by lengthening stays and by making it difficult to discharge patients? Is there not mounting evidence that the squeeze on beds has simply gone too far? ...
Another friend was due to have a joint replacement operation on 30 January, was all ready for it, maybe even in hospital for it, when she was told there would be no bed for her after her operation. Which was then postponed to late March. Pardon me, but on what level of bed occupancy does the Health Service run? It was January, when hospitals are often busy with respiratory illnesses, but January comes around every 12 months, and hospitals plan for these things. I know because I worked in the Health Ministry, and we spent much time planning for the winter so that the Minister would not be hit by negative headlines. I have seen no headlines in the UK papers about excessively busy hospitals or flu epidemics (other than those poor turkeys). In some parts of the country hospitals are few and far between, and what would they do if a coach crash were to happen on their doorstep? It would be interesting to know how many operations and procedures are cancelled because there are no beds - maybe 1000 per ...

Effective this week, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) has started to slowly resume elective surgeries and procedures that were stopped mid-March when hospitals were directed to stop non-urgent procedures as part of a preparative response to the COVID-19 pandemic.. Following government approval received this week, MAHC is cautiously beginning the first phase of a measured return-to-service plan, adhering to strict criteria established by the province that includes an appropriate supply of protective equipment, medication, staff and community services to care for recovering patients, as well as appropriate inpatient bed capacity and a manageable number of COVID-19 cases in the region and in the hospitals. Patients awaiting surgery will be contacted by their physicians office to be advised of their procedure date.. "Ramping up under a new normal with strict requirements is very complex in two aging buildings with little flexibility for additional space needs for separation," says CEO Natalie ...

It would be surprising if a public service was tolerated when it was feared by its customers, who are put at risk; unable to show evidence of its effectiveness; very expensive; and paying its staff uncompetitively. It would be astonishing if, nevertheless, such a service could not cope with demand.. This is a recognisable picture of acute hospital care in the NHS. The 14 000 NHS acute in-patient beds in England for adults aged 16-64 years cost about £750 million annually. Recent visits by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) confirmed earlier studies (Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, 1998; Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee, 1999) identifying acute care as particularly challenging because of high bed occupancy rates, poor hygiene, lack of space, boredom, lack of privacy, scarcity of therapeutic interventions, violence and bed blocking. Although not all these problems occurred on every ward, none was without its challenges and patients were highly critical. The consensus ...

Access to behavioral health services may be a growing challenge in many communities in light of psychiatric hospital occupancy rates reaching the highest level in more than 5 years, according to annual survey data released recently by the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS). The trend is true for all types of programs-including child, adolescent, adult, older adult, and drug/ alcohol programs-according to The NAPHS 2001 annual survey report-- Trends in Behavioral Healthcare Systems.. "Behavioral health caregivers are working harder with limited resources," said NAPHS Executive Director Mark Covall in releasing the report. "Higher occupancy is occurring at a time when closings and consolidations have reduced the number of hospitals available nationwide. With fewer beds available, the need for services growing, and ...

Bailkin said Valiant is willing to make the city a guarantee it wont be on the hook financially if the hotel isnt successful.. "We will have a mechanism to guarantee against operating losses," he said. "No. 1, (the city) wont be responsible for the debt service because thats coming from the income flow from the hotel. And No. 2, the operating losses, we as the manager will be responsible for that. So the only issue will really be whether we will be able to produce the economic and community benefits by having a lot of conferences here.". Sweating the details.
