The event, now in its 23rd year, helps protect Delaware shorelines by planting Cape American beach grass on sand dunes at beaches along the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.. The results are based on a contingent valuation survey designed to estimate the economic value people would place on controlling marine debris on recreational beaches in New Jersey and North Carolina. A Weibull survival model was estimated treating for and against votes as defining censoring points for an unknown willingness to pay distribution. The findings suggest: (1) people do distinguish situations with differing amounts of debris when they are described using color photographs; (2) the pilot survey implies measures of peoples willingness to pay (WTP) for debris control are consistent with a scope test in that larger WTP is associated with programs intended to address situations for more serious background levels of debris; and (3) local beach conditions seem to influence how people interpreted the plans describing

This process is heavily tied to the lunar cycle and its effects on the tides. The mating begins when the moons force is strongest and the high tide allows the horseshoe crab to venture further onto the beach. As the force weakens, the water is never able to reach the eggs. Populationion dynamics and ecology of beach wrack macroinvertebrates of the central California coast by Derrick R. Lavoie, Bull. Southern California Acad. Sci., 84(1): 1-22, 1985. The successional cycle of macroinvertebrates colonizing high intertidal beach wrack islands, decaying clumps of stranded kelp, were examined on a central California high energy beach. Samples from wrack algae and the underlying sand were taken at periodic intervals following island deposition. Mean density and number of different species fluctuated in regular and complementary patterns. Multivariate analysis distinguished early, mid, and late colonizing species. Dipterans and amphipods were initial colonizers succeeded largely by Coleoptera. Temporal changes in faunal populations are attributed to physical and biological factors degrading the wrack and reducing its potential as a resource.
