Abstract:Chronic pains management costs billions of dollars in medical exchequer to the world population. Additionally, 77% of people with chronic pains also have a degree of medically treatable depression. Opioids have a narrower safety index due to their side effects associated with its tolerance, hyperalgesia and subsequent dependence. Likewise, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and anticonvulsants, also have limited safety and tolerability profile in the management of chronic pains. Bacopa ...
Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the cerebral cortex, maintains the inhibitory tones that counter balances neuronal excitation. When this balance is perturbed, seizures may ensue. In the present study, alterations of the general GABA, GABAA and GABAB receptors in the cerebral cortex of the epileptic rat and the therapeutic application of Bacopa monnieri were investigated. Scatchard analysis of [3H]GABA, [3H]bicuculline and [3H]baclofen in the cerebral cortex of the epileptic rat showed significant decrease in Bmax (P | 0.001) compared to control. Real Time PCR amplification of GABA receptor subunits such as GABAAά1, GABAAγ, GABAAδ, GABAB and GAD where down regulated (P | 0.001) in epileptic rats. GABAAά5 subunit and Cyclic AMP responsible element binding protein were up regulated. Confocal imaging study confirmed the decreased GABA receptors in epileptic rats. Epileptic rats have deficit in radial arm and Y maze performance. Bacopa monnieri and Bacoside-A
Effect of pre- and post-treatment with Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) on phencyclidine-induced disruptions in object recognition memory and cerebral calbindin, parvalbumin, and calretinin immunoreactivity in rats P Piyabhan,1 P Tingpej,2 N Duansak11Division of Physiology, Department of Preclinical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University, KlongLuang, Pathumthani, Thailand; 2Division of Microbiology, Department of Preclinical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University, KlongLuang, Pathumthani, ThailandBackground: Decreased gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-ergic neurons in the brain of both schizophrenic patients and animal models indicates that impairment of GABAergic function is implicated in pathophysiology of the disorder. Decreased GABAergic neurotransmission might be also involved in cognitive impairment, which is developed in schizophrenia. Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) could be a new treatment and prevention for this cognitive deficit in schizophrenia by increasing GABAergic neurons to a
Another thing that makes bacopa a powerful nootropic is how it is also named as an adaptogen. Adaptogens are substances that help the body get rid of stress and bacopa works with that. The antioxidants in Gingko have been suggested to dilate and widen your brain blood vessels - resulting in more blood, oxygen and nutrients being delivered to your neurons.. Additionally, antioxidants protect our brain cells (and other cells for that matter) from free radicals, unstable molecules that get generated as byproducts of fundamental bodily functions and daily lifestyle. Stress and an unhealthy diet can increase levels of free radicals, increasing the need for antioxidants to protect brain cells from damage.. The result of these effects of Ginkgo is that you might notice your memory and focus improve. However, its important to note that theres some conflicting evidence showing that Ginkgos effect might be too weak to notice. So, theres a chance you might not feel it working. More on Ginkgo and the research here: examine.com/supplements/ginkgo-biloba/. In terms of Bacopa, its much more noticeable, in almost everyone. Tissue culture. Disinfection experiment showed an efficiency of 80%. B. monnieri did not showed difficulties to grow in vitro conditions. Neither browning nor oxidation processes were detected at the amount of ethanol and sodium hypochlorite used.. Table 1 shows the results obtained with the nodal segments of B. monnieri. Significant differences in the shoots multiplication rate were detected between the treatments containing 0.25 mg/L and 0.5 mg/L BAP (18.37 and 17.94 shoots/explant, respectively) and the other treatments. The treatment containing 1.0 mg/L BAP showed callus production and a very important tissue vitrification. Although callus production was important in the treatment with 0.5 mg/L BAP, no vitrification was detected in this treatment. Neither callus formation nor vitrification process were found in the 0.25; 0.1 and 0.0 mg/L BAP treatments, and except for the 1.0 mg/L BAP treatment, in all the others the novo shoots developed from the bottom of the explant and at the edge of the ...

PURPLE CORN. Purple corn contains a variety of phytonutrients (plant nutrients) including massive amounts of phenolics and anthocyanin. Research shows that crops with the highest phenolic and anthocyanin content also have the highest antioxidant activity. Anthocyanin are a type of complex flavonoid that produces blue, purple or red colors. Anthocyanin are anti-inflammatory and encourage connective tissue regeneration. As well as being powerful antioxidants that keep us looking young and protected from disease, they promote blood flow and reduce cholesterol. It appears that anthocyaninmay stabilize and protect capillaries and blood vessels from free radical damage, and they have been shown to promote collagen formation (which is great for our skin) and improve circulation.. In excess, either one may increase vata.1, 3 Both herbs have a strong affinity for the lymph, blood, nervous tissue, and urinary tract, as well as the circulatory, digestive, and nervous systems. In addition, gotu kola works on the muscle, adipose, and bone tissues whereas bacopa resonates with all of the tissues in the body as well as the channels of elimination.1 And while some describe bacopa as cooling,1 others insist that it is in fact, heating-though still calming to pitta.2 Relative to gotu kola, lets just say that bacopa is less cooling and may therefore be preferred in certain types of vata and kapha imbalances. Gotu kola will generally be the better choice where there are strong indications of pitta imbalance. This is, of course, a subtle distinction because both herbs are considered to be tridoshic (balancing to vata, pitta, and kapha) and for specific conditions one may be preferred over the other. Nootropics are known to increase performance in practically all aspects of memory which is invaluable to the average student trying to memorising various formulas, theories and techniques alike. To understand how they work it is a good idea to first look at how memories are created. Memories are first formed in a process known as encoding where stimuli, whether this be visual, acoustic, semantic or a combination of different types, passes from the various receptors in your body to the brain where they are incorporated into a single experience. This is the equivalent of reading a book, or listening to your lecturer talk and consciously perceiving what is going on. This is the first hurdle in successfully remembering information as unfortunately we do not always encode all the information we want to remember. However supplements like bacopa monnieri and vasopressin (more commonly known as antidiuretic hormone) are known to directly increase the amount of information that is encoded. Other ...
The greatest public health concern about water is directed to its ever increasing number of contaminants. Public distribution systems, though accessible only to a limited population, mainly make use of chemicals in the treatment processes. Such water treatment systems overlay burden on the developing nations financial resources. Moreover, reports states that such chemicals can cause severe health hazards. These points out the need for low-cost, replicable non-chemicals, which would be effective in the treatment of water contaminants. In the present study, treatment potentialities of vegetative parts of certain hydrophytic / mesophytic plants like Lagenandra toxicaria Dalz, Aloe barbedensis Mill., Canna indica.
