Security awareness training has made great strides in terms of recognition and adoption over the past decade. As such, it might seem odd for us to dedicate a blog to defining this term. But our goal isnt to define security awareness training at a basic level. Rather, its to encourage you to think beyond the basics. And part of that is considering how you define security awareness training for those who will determine the success of your program: your end users.
Context: Self-awareness is vital for the health and development of medical students, but few reported modalities successfully increase medical student self-awareness. Objective: To assess the effect of ultrasonography on medical student self-awareness and health status. Methods: In 2016, first- and second-year osteopathic medical students completed a 9-item survey, created specifically for the current study, which included questions about the use of ultrasonography, health status, and self-awareness after completing at least 1 ultrasonography course. Differences between student responses by class were analyzed using χ2 analysis for items assessing experience with ultrasonography and t tests for items assessing self-awareness. Results: Of the 329 students surveyed, 192 (58.4%) reported using ultrasonography to explore or monitor their own health or body. Forty-nine students (14.9%) found out something about their health that they did not know before their exposure to ultrasonography. Significant ...
In continuous flash suppression (CFS), a dynamic noise masker, presented to one eye, suppresses conscious perception of a test stimulus, presented to the other eye, until the suppressed stimulus comes to awareness after few seconds. But what do we see breaking the dominance of the masker in the transition period? We addressed this question with a dual-task in which observers indicated (i) whether the test object was left or right of the fixation mark (localization) and (ii) whether it was a face or a house (categorization). As done recently (Stein et al., 2011), we used two experimental varieties to rule out confounds with decisional strategy. In the terminated mode, stimulus and masker were presented for distinct durations, and the observers were asked to give both judgements at the end of the trial. In the self-paced mode, presentation lasted until the observers responded. In the self-paced mode, b-CFS durations for object categorization were about half a second longer than for object localization.
Large-group awareness training (LGAT) refers to activities usually offered by groups linked with the human potential movement which claim to increase self-awareness and bring about desirable transformations in individuals personal lives. They are noted for being unconventional and often take place over several days. LGAT programs may involve several hundred people at a time. Though early definitions cited LGATs as featuring unusually long durations, more recent texts describe the trainings as lasting from a few hours to a few days. Forsyth and Corazzini cite Lieberman (1994) as suggesting that at least 1.3 million Americans have taken part in LGAT sessions. Rubinstein compared large-group awareness training to certain principles of cognitive therapy, such as the idea that people can change their lives by interpreting the way they view external circumstances. In Consumer Research: Postcards from the edge, discussing behavioral and economic studies, the authors contrasted the enclosed ...
The goal of your corporate security infrastructure is to protect corporate data, access to on-premises and cloud-based systems, sensitive information like login credentials and customer data, and even physical assets. Most organizations approach this by deploying various types of security hardware, software and cloud services.. However, cybersecurity technology can go only so far. Because bad actors increasingly target your users of these systems and services. Your users must be equipped to deal with a growing variety of threats directed at them. Strong security awareness training is essential in protecting your organization from security threats and the damage they can cause. Beyond that, the goal of your security awareness training should be developing fundamental change in your users - to change in the way they think about security - that will translate into the development of a robust security culture.. In this white paper youll learn:. ...

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.. The movement to remind women to get mammograms is in full swing. Pink… the color for breast cancer awareness… is everywhere. It is no longer taboo to talk about breasts! Silicone bracelets proclaiming Save the Tatas and I Love Boobies have been spotted on the wrists of young and old alike.. Societys newfound comfort with the word breast …and its slang…is evidence of how far breast cancer awareness has come. And it offers hope that the infertility awareness campaign will someday join breast cancer in terms of public awareness, funding, and support. If we can openly talk openly about breasts, can ovaries be far behind?. When youre trying to conceive and you cant, and then you go to a fertility specialist for help, and it still doesnt happen, some women might think their life is over. That nothing could be worse. That no one has it harder than they do. Some may even feel that theres no reason to go on if they cant have a baby.. That ...

OBJECTIVE Blood glucose awareness training (BGAT) has been found effective in teaching individuals with insulin-requiring diabetes to improve their ability to better recognize blood glucose (BG) fluctuations. This study investigated whether subjects who underwent BGAT a mean of 4.9 years previously were superior to past control subjects in terms of their ability to recognize BG fluctuations, and whether past BGAT subjects had fewer automobile crashes and lost work days and better glycosylated hemoglobin than control subjects. Additionally, the beneficial effects of providing booster training to past BGAT subjects also was evaluated.. ...

In this experiment we explore the effects of using a graphical and textual database for. sharing information within a team that are to control a dynamic system. The task involves. fighting a simulated fire. Four people are to co-operate in a layered organisation,. with one layer being the operative and the second layer the supervisory. The operative. layer involves two fire chiefs who are commanding two fire units each. The supervisory. unit consists of two persons that are to co-ordinate the fire chiefs. The supervisory unit. receives all information from the fire chiefs but has to construct an overall picture, a socalled. situation awareness, of the development of the whole area. The supervisory unit. constructs this situation awareness which is meant to be supported by the graphical and. textual databases respectively. We hypothesised that the graphical condition would be. more successful than the textual database in registering the current situation, since the. graphical database allows ...

Attention and working memory are important cognitive functions that affect junior school students learning ability and academic performance. This study aimed to explore the relationships among trait mindfulness, attention, and working memory and to explore differences in performance between a high trait mindfulness group and a low one in attention and working memory under different stressful situations. In study 1, 216 junior school students completed the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), and their attention and working memory were tested in a non-pressure situation. The results showed that attention had a partial mediating effect between mindfulness and working memory. In study 2, the high trait mindfulness group and the low one were tested for attention and working memory under situations with single and multiple pressures. One notable result was that the attention and working memory performances of the high mindfulness group were all significantly higher than those of the low mindfulness
To test the hypothesis that the neuroendocrine (including autonomic) responses to hypoglycemia are dissociated from the symptomatic responses to hypoglycemia in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) patients with hypoglycemia awareness and during reversal of hypoglycemia unawareness in IDDM, we used the hyperinsulinemic stepped hypoglycemic (5.0, 4.4, 3.9, 3.3, 2.8, and 2.2 mmol/l) clamp technique to quantitate these responses in nondiabetic control subjects and IDDM patients with hypoglycemia awareness and with hypoglycemia unawareness. The latter were restudied after 3 days, 3-4 weeks, and 3 months of scrupulous avoidance of iatrogenic hypoglycemia. At baseline, symptom responses were virtually nil in unaware patients (P = 0.0001 vs. nondiabetic); these were increased in aware patients (P = 0.0183 vs. nondiabetic). In contrast, several neuroendocrine responses were comparably reduced in both unaware and aware patients: epinephrine (P = 0.0222 and 0.0156), pancreatic polypeptide (P = ...

Hypoglycemia is probably like an alcoholic. In both cases a diabetic doesnt recognize his or her lows and an alcoholic not knowing they are drunk. In my case diabetic lows became hard to recognize do to age. I have been told by a couple of endos that our bodies adjust to the lows because of the frequency of having them. Having less lows over a longer period of time I think will help the body recognize that you are having a low. Nocturnal Hypoglycemia is my worst enemy. I can usually recognize have a low while awake but at night I am dependent upon setting a clock at 2:00 AM just to make sure. I tend to run low at the time of the morning and many of times required me taking orange juice just so that I dont have a hypoglycemic episode. I found some info on the internet that you may find interesting to note. Hypoglycemia unawareness - Hypoglycemia unawareness occurs when you do not have the early symptoms of low blood sugar. As a result, you cannot respond in the early stages, and severe signs ...
December 4, 2007. Turning the Tide Against Breast Cancer. By Senator Lena C. Taylor. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Its a solemn occasion; a time to reflect on the impact of a devastating sickness. Breast cancer is, by far, the deadliest disease amongst women in our society. Almost 180,000 Americans will be diagnosed this year, alone, and, of these, over 40,000 will die of breast cancer.. One in seven women will develop breast cancer during their lives, meaning that almost all of us know somebody whose life has been irrevocably changed by the disease. That experience is charged with emotion. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a challenge to take those emotions and use them to be proactive and fight back. That means facing up to the realities of breast cancer and understanding what you can do to keep it from impacting your life.. The unfortunate reality is that all women are at risk. The number one cause of breast cancer is aging, and thats something none of us can do anything about. ...
NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, 2013. - - - - - - -. BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A PROCLAMATION. Every October, America stands in solidarity with those battling breast cancer and those at risk for breast cancer. This disease touches every corner of the United States -- in 2013 alone, more than 230,000 women and over 2,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and tens of thousands will die from it. As we observe National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we salute the women and men who dedicate themselves to prevention, detection, and treatment; we show our support for every individual and every family struggling with breast cancer; and we pause to remember those we have lost.. Over the past two decades, our Nation has made strides in the fight against breast cancer. While we still do not know the exact causes, we do know that some women are at an increased risk of developing this disease, including those who have a personal or family history, who are older, or who ...

Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder (DD) typically manifests as a disruption of body self-awareness. Interoception −defined as the cognitive processing of body signals− has been extensively considered as a key processing for body self-awareness. In consequence, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are systematic differences in interoception between a patient with DD and controls that might explain the disembodiment symptoms suffered in this disease. To assess interoception, we utilized a heartbeat detection task and measures of functional connectivity derived from fMRI networks in interoceptive/exteroceptivo/mind-wandering states. Additionally, we evaluated empathic abilities to test the association between interoception and emotional experience. The results showed patients impaired performance in the heartbeat detection task when compared to controls. Furthermore, regarding functional connectivity, we found a lower global brain connectivity of the patient relative to
