Over the last few years, the safety record of U.S. commercial airlines has improved to the point where the statistics on accidents are negligible. The overwhelming numbers of aviation fatalities occur in General Aviation (GA) accidents. While the fatal accident rate has improved-from around 5.0 per 100,000 miles flown in the post-World War II era to varying between 1.2 and 1.5 since 1996-it still results in 450 to 700 deaths per year. In 2013, improving GA safety was on the National Transportation Safety Boards (NTSBs) most wanted list. The NTSB has cited a lack of aeronautical knowledge as the cause of many of these accidents. If pilots are required to pass Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) knowledge and practical tests prior to obtaining a new pilot certificate, how could they not possess the knowledge needed to operate in the National Airspace System (NAS)? Some, attributing it to a failure to learn basic aeronautical knowledge, are concerned that potential pilots memorize the answers ...

The Alien Flight Student Program is a program operated by the United States Transportation Security Administration to screen prospective flight student candidates who are not citizens of the United States, before they are allowed to undergo pilot training. This program was created in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, in recognition of the fact that the individuals who piloted the hijacked aircraft first learned to fly at US flight schools. The mission of the program is to ensure that foreign students seeking training at flight schools regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) do not pose a threat to aviation or national security. Section 612 of the Vision 100 - Century of Aviation Reauthorization Act (Public Law 108-176, December 12, 2003) prohibits flight schools regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from providing flight training to a foreign student unless the Secretary of Homeland Security first determines that the student does not pose a threat to ...

Pilots who are considered hypertensive are closely monitored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure that their hypertension is properly controlled. During the investigation of fatal civil aviation accidents, postmortem samples obtained from pilots are submitted to the FAAs Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) for toxicological evaluation. During such evaluation, submitted samples are analyzed for prescription and nonprescription drugs, and it is common to find beta-blocker antihypertensives such as atenolol, metoprolol, and propranolol in the submitted biological samples. During a 10-year period of 1993-2002, postmortem samples from 3290 civil aviation accident pilot fatalities (cases) were received by CAMI. Toxicological evaluation of these cases revealed that 50 of the 3290 fatalities had the commonly prescribed beta-blockers, atenolol, metoprolol, and propranolol. Out of the 50 fatalities, atenolol, metoprolol, and propranolol were found to be present in 24, 19, and 7 ...

After several delays, United Airlines has finally resumed services to New Yorks John F. Kennedy International Airport. The services are being resumed around six years after the airline bid farewell to the JFK airport. This airport is the sixth busiest airport in the United States. It also the biggest airport in the Northeast. The airline is making a comeback with flagship flights to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). Both the flights will be operated with a Boeing 767-300. According to the information shared by United Airlines, it will operate out of Terminal 7 of the John F. Kennedy International Airport. United Airlines had left JFK in October 2015. The airline apparently took the decision to concentrate more on international and premium transcontinental services. However, a few years later the company accepted that the decision was a mistake. In 2017, Chief executive officer Scott Kirby - who was then the president of the airline - had described the move as a mistake. At an employee ...

MAURITIUS based Flyafrica Limited, which owns 49 percent of low cost airline Flyafrcia Zimbabwe, says its local partners acted unilaterally and illegally when they surrendered the Airline operator Certificate (AOC) to aviation authorities this week.. Flyafrica Zimbabwe is a partnership between the Karase familys Fresh Air and Flyafrica Limited.. John (not Commission) Farmer has provided a link to a definitive, primary source-based, analysis of radar pertinent to 9-11. His paper is titled, Radar and NTSB Time Normalization for 9/11 Data Sources.. Here is Farmers lead paragraph:. Perhaps one of the most contentious aspects of the analysis of American Airlines Flight 77s (AAL77) flight path is the reconciliation of the radar data released by the U.S. Air Forces 84th Radar Evaluation Squadron (84 RADES), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). However, this should not be the case since alignment of the individual data sets is rather straight- forward in the case of AAL77. Also, the abundance of data from such a wide spectrum of sources and measurement systems, from ...

The patents pertain specifically to vacuum toilet assemblies and methods for repairing these toilets (U.S. Patent Numbers 6,353,942; 6,536,054; and 6,536,055). In its complaint, MAG Aerospace claimed that B/E Aerospaces patented lightweight Ecosystems vacuum toilet infringed MAGs earlier patents. Within days of receiving the complaint, B/E Aerospace publicly denied these allegations and shortly thereafter retained Irell to defend against MAG Aerospaces claims. After claim construction ...

Read Terry Williams lawsuit. Watch air quality debate in U.K. Parliament. Most of the flying public has never heard of fume events, and employees, especially in this economy, may stay mum for job security reasons, says Murawski. Flight attendants who become too sick to work - and Murawski estimates there have been hundreds - usually file a workers compensation claim, which Williams has also done. Bleed air research spans decades The Federal Aviation Administration does not dismiss the possibility of fume events and the potential health dangers. The concerns are reasonable and are being investigated, the agency said in a written response to CNNs questions about the issue. These symptoms - including memory loss, vision impairment, tremors, headaches and vomiting - have been attributed to exposure to tricresyl phosphate (TCP) and other breakdown products of hydraulic fluid, fuel, deicing fluid and engine oil, it said. The statement also said, however, that the same symptoms occur as a ...
On Tuesday, The Federal Aviation Administration issued permits to use drones for 2 purposes, to monitor crops and photograph properties for sale, for the first time granting permission to companies involved agriculture and real estate.. The exemptions to the current ban on commercial drone flights were granted to Douglas Trudeau of Tierra Antigua Realty in Tucson, Arizona.. Trudeaus exemption authorizes him to fly a Phantom 2 Vision+ quadcopter to enhance academic community awareness and augment real estate listing videos, the FAA said.. The permits require both a ground pilot and an observer, that the pilot have at least an FAA private pilot certificate and a current medical certificate, and that the drone remains within line of sight of the operator at all times.. I am sure this will bring lots more requests for such permits from the FAA, as many in the real estate industry want to use them, especially on high end homes. Want to fly a drone, better get your pilots license.. image courtesy ...

Each of the Department of Transportations drug and alcohol testing rules include requirements for select employers to submit drug and alcohol testing data to five Department of Transportation (DOT) agencies. In the past, these employers have been required to use agency-specific Management Information System (MIS) forms for this purpose, twenty-one different forms in all. The Department recently published a final rule revising these DOT agency MIS forms and transforming them into a single one-page form for use throughout all the DOT agencies. The requirement for use of the form is now in 49 CFR part 40. By this action, the DOT agencies endorse the use of this single form within their regulated industries, provide their regulated employers with guidance for submission of the form, and amend their rules accordingly. The DOT agencies are: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA); Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Federal Transit Administration (FTA); Federal Railroad Administration ...
