Downloadable! This paper examines the association between the default risk of foreign bank subsidiaries in developing countries and their parents during the global financial crisis, with the purpose of determining the size and sign of this correlation and, more importantly, understanding what factors can help insulate affiliates from their parents. We find evidence of a significant and robust positive correlation between parent banks and foreign subsidiaries default risk. This correlation is lower for subsidiaries that have a higher share of retail deposit funding and that are more independently managed from their parents. Host country bank regulations also influence the extent to which shocks to the parents affect the subsidiaries default risk. In particular, the correlation between the default risk of subsidiaries and their parents is lower for subsidiaries operating in countries that impose higher capital, reserve, provisioning, and disclosure requirements, and tougher restrictions on bank

The structure that connects the brain to the spinal cord, that is, the brain stem, can be compared to a station that sends messages that leave and arrive at the brain. The brain stem is divided into three parts: the midbrain , the bridge and the medulla oblongata . Together, these three parts allow you to control your respiratory, swallowing and vasomotor functions. These are vital functions of fundamental importance. Each of the nerve pathways that depart from or arrive at or pass through the brain cross into the brain stem . From here, moreover, 10 of the 12 pairs of cranial nerves originate , except the nerve connected to thesmell and optic nerve . The remaining nerves allow motility and sensory abilities to the structures of the skull, and also involve the pharynx , larynx , tongue, facial muscles. These nerve pathways also participate in the senses of balance, taste and smell . They also house fundamental nuclei for autonomous sympathetic and parasympathetic functions.. ...
A type of sensory nerve injury known as dysesthesia, which literally means abnormal sensation and is often used to refer to unpleasant and painful sensation, can sometimes be seen following the extraction of the lower wisdom teeth. These teeth are located quite close to the nerve pathway that is responsible for your ability to feel normal sensations. Should that nerve pathway be disrupted during the surgical procedure, you may experience an unpleasant or uncomfortable sensation that is temporary, extended, or sustained.. Patients who suffer from this condition frequently report feelings of pain, burning, electric shock, wetness, tingling, numbness, or coldness. The degree of the discomfort can range from minimal to debilitating, and it generally occurs spontaneously.. Most patients who experience dysesthesia can expect a full or dramatically improved recovery with time. Improvement is slow, however, and can take many months to over a year.. During your initial consultation, be sure to discuss ...
Cystometry is a diagnostic procedure used to identify problems with the filling and emptying of the urinary bladder. This test measures the amount of volume or urine in the bladder compared with the bladder pressure and the persons perception of bladder fullness. Cystometry provides information about the muscle function, mechanics, and nerve response of the bladder and urinary tract.. A normally functioning bladder sends messages to the brain via nerve pathways when it needs emptying. The spinal cord then transmits a message to the bladder to contract and begin the reflex of urinating. A person can override this reflex voluntarily by holding his or her urine.. Some medical conditions may interfere with the muscular function or nerve pathways between the bladder and the brain. These conditions may lead to urinary incontinence (loss of bladder control) or urinary obstruction. Cystometry may be indicated to determine the source of such problems. It is often done together with Uroflowmetry, which ...
A specific preparation of cocoa-extract called Lavado may reduce damage to nerve pathways seen in Alzheimers disease patients brains long before they develop symptoms, according to a study conducted at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and published June 20 in the Journal of Alzheimers Disease (JAD). Specifically, the study results, using mice genetically engineered to mimic Alzheimers disease, suggest that Lavado cocoa extract prevents the protein β-amyloid- (Ab) from gradually forming sticky clumps in the brain, which are known to damage nerve cells as Alzheimers disease progresses. Lavado cocoa is primarily composed of polyphenols, antioxidants also found in fruits and vegetables, with past studies suggesting that they prevent degenerative diseases of the brain. The Mount Sinai study results revolve around synapses, the gaps between nerve cells. Within healthy nerve pathways, each nerve cell sends an electric pulse down itself until it reaches a synapse where it triggers the ...
The Arthrostim® is unique in that it produces a rapid thrust and recoil rate of 12 thrusts / second. This frequency is often referred to as the Low Beta Somato-Motor Rhythm because of its profound effect on the nervous system. This rapidity stimulates specialized nerve pathways that send messages to the brain called proprioceptors and mechanoreceptors which inhibit the nociceptors. Nociceptors are the patient s pain sensing nerve pathways that carry pain messages to the brain.. Also, these nociceptors are not stimulated by the Arthrostim® because of the thrust and recoil. This means that the adjustment can be delivered painlessly to patients of all ages. The Arthrostim® can be used on anyone and is especially useful in our larger than average patients or our pain sensitive patients ...
How is this possible? You see, there are nerve pathways that travel from the foot to the brain and it is by walking barefoot on textured surfaces (textures offered by the earth such as sticks, stones, grass & sand) that these nerve pathways are stimulated to sends signals to our brain that interrupt stress and/or pain to any body part, organ or gland. This is a practice that our brain yearns for daily, and when our brain receives the signal, circulation improves, and stress gets interrupted immediately, returning us to a state of well-being. ...

Business There are three unique types of Singapore company that have been specifically created for foreign entrepreneurs and business entities planning to have a presence in the country: a subsidiary company, branch office, and representative office. These are the basic differences between these business entities for foreign entrepreneurs and investors: 1. Subsidiary Company This is probably the most ideal business entity for foreign companies planning to form a Singapore company or expand their presence in the country. This is because this formation provides countless of benefits especially when it comes to tax incentives and limited liability. As a separate legal entity from its parent company, a subsidiary company may have a different name and is allowed to conduct any business activities in the country as long as these are legal. A foreign company with a subsidiary company enjoys a limited liability, an arrangement in which it is not liable for any losses, liabilities, and debts of its ...

First, amazing results powered by cutting-edge AI; and second, a lack of transparency over the handling of the UKs public-funded data. Its latest plan is a public ledger that shows which bits of data its using; when; and for what purposes. The method of manufacturing VCSEL composed of multiple material layers uses a main measuring laser having same wavelength of that of VCSEL so as to estimate the growth periods required for growing a predetermined thickness of the material layers by analyzing the reflected signal of the main measuring laser and then control the growth time durations of subsequent material layers. This method eliminates the need of pre-knowledge of refractive indexes and the growing speeds of the material layers. Also, an interruptive process for measuring thickness, growth speed or refractive indexes can be omitted so as to perform the entire epitaxial growth in-situ and thus improve the reproducibility and the uniformity. In addition, a subsidiary measuring laser may be used other than the main measuring laser for improving the accuracy of the control of growth time duration, where the subsidiary measuring laser has a different wavelength from that of VCSEL. The subsidiary measuring laser may be used especially in the
Using a large sample of business groups from several countries around the world, we show that group information matters for parent and subsidiary default prediction. Group firms may support each other when in financial distress. Potential group support represents an off-balance sheet asset for the receiving firm and an off-balance sheet liability for the firm offering support. We find that subsidiary information improves parent default prediction over and above group-level consolidated information possibly because intra-group exposures are netted out upon consolidation. Moreover, we document that the improvements in parent default prediction are decreasing in the extent of parent-country financial reporting transparency which suggests that within-group information matters most when the consolidated financial statements are expected to be of lower quality. We also show that parent and other group-firms default risk exhibits predictive power for subsidiary default. Lastly, we find that ...

The system is composed of the sympathetic (generally excitatory) and parasympathetic (generally calming) nerves, which when balanced help maintain healthy function throughout the body. Unfortunately stress both physical and emotional creates an imbalance and can contribute to compromised function of organs and predisposes us to poor health.. Quite simply if you can remove these physical stresses and help balance the autonomic nerves, the systems in the body responsible for filtering and cleaning will function more effectively, aiding, and accelerating the detoxification process. Interestingly the autonomic nerves enter the body from the sacrum (base of the spine) and the neck; therefore Osteopathic treatment on these areas will have a direct effect on the autonomic nerves.. In addition to effects on the autonomic nervous system, the tension in the muscles and tissues has a direct adverse effect on fluid movement throughout the body and obviously, it is more difficult to detox if toxins are ...
HGPPS is caused by mutations in the ROBO3 gene. This gene provides instructions for making a protein that is important for the normal development of certain nerve pathways in the brain. These include motor nerve pathways, which transmit information about voluntary muscle movement, and sensory nerve pathways, which transmit information about sensory input (such as touch, pain, and temperature). For the brain and the body to communicate effectively, these nerve pathways must cross from one side of the body to the other in the brainstem, a region that connects the upper parts of the brain with the spinal cord.. The ROBO3 protein plays a critical role in ensuring that motor and sensory nerve pathways cross over in the brainstem. In people with HGPPS, these pathways do not cross over, but stay on the same side of the body. Researchers believe that this miswiring in the brainstem is the underlying cause of the eye movement abnormalities associated with the disorder. The cause of progressive scoliosis ...

Background: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a relatively common dysrhythmia among the general population and a common dysrhythmia presenting to the emergency department. Generally speaking, it is assumed the provider should attempt a vagal maneuver as first-line treatment for SVT, and the most common vagal maneuver used is the Valsalva. Current resources describing the method to perform the Valsalva are vague, and it seems that the exact procedure may vary across clinicians. Even though the Valsalva maneuver is accepted as first-line treatment, there may not be complete compliance with this maneuver and many emergency departments rely relatively heavily on adenosine as absolute treatment for SVT. Currently accepted methods for performing the Valsalva typically describe the patient in a sitting or semi-recumbent position prior to
We studied the effects of intense sympathetic stimulation on the chronotropic responses of the heart to subsequent test stimulations of the cardiac autonomic nerves in dogs anesthetized with alpha-chloralose. Such intense sympathetic stimulations (which we refer to as release stimulations) are known to release neuropeptide Y as well as norepinephrine. The changes in cardiac cycle length evoked by vagal and sympathetic test stimulations were progressively more attenuated as we increased the frequency and duration of the antecedent sympathetic release stimulations. We found that 2.5 minutes after a maximal release stimulation (30 Hz for 5 minutes), the mean +/- SEM chronotropic responses to the vagal and sympathetic test stimulations were diminished to 36.5 +/- 1.6% and 54.7 +/- 1.3% respectively, of the prestimulation responses. The mean times for the chronotropic responses to the vagal and sympathetic test stimulations to recover to their control values were 52.0 +/- 1.3 and 63.2 +/- 2.9 ...

The effects of autonomic innervation of tumors on tumor growth remain unclear. Here we developed a series of genetic techniques to manipulate autonomic innervation in a tumor- and fiber-type-specific manner in mice with human breast cancer xenografts and in rats with chemically induced breast tumors. Breast cancer growth and progression were accelerated following stimulation of sympathetic nerves in tumors, but were reduced following stimulation of parasympathetic nerves. Tumor-specific sympathetic denervation suppressed tumor growth and downregulated the expression of immune checkpoint molecules (programed death-1 (PD-1), programed death ligand-1 (PD-L1), and FOXP3) to a greater extent than with pharmacological α- or β-adrenergic receptor blockers. Genetically induced simulation of parasympathetic innervation of tumors decreased PD-1 and PD-L1 expression. In humans, a retrospective analysis of breast cancer specimens from 29 patients revealed that increased sympathetic and decreased parasympathetic

Neuropathy is a disease that affects the nervous system. 苽驸降Neuro苽驸降 means nerves and 苽驸降pathy苽驸降 means disease. It affects the nerve pathways running between the central nervous system 苽驸降 the brain and spinal cord 苽驸降 and the peripheral nervous system 苽驸降 motor and sensory neurons. The major symptoms are serious pain, stinging, lack of sensation and inflammation, which affect diverse parts of the body, especially feet and toes, and sometimes hands too.Neuropathic pain, also known as neuralgia Cheap Wholesale Jerseys , occurs spontaneously or as a reaction to external treatments. Neuralgia is dissimilar from the common type of pain that one might experience when hit with a hammer on the toe. Neuropathic pain is steady and constant, characterized by a burning or pricking sensation, which does not result from an obvious stimulus. Whereas common pain influences only the pain nerves, neuropathy triggers both pain and non-pain sensory nerves. Some signs of ...
March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness month. So I thought I would do my part and bring awareness to another awful autoimmune disease. I decided I wanted to cover the following topics in the blog. What is MS? Who gets it? What are the symptoms? How is it treated? And what can we do to raise awareness? So lets jump right in. Per the Mayo Clinic no one is really sure of the cause of MS. But it is considered an autoimmune disease, in which the body attacks its own tissues. In this case the immune system destroys the myelin, which is the fatty substances that covers and protects the nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. MS is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, optic nerves (which control the eyes), and spinal cord. The destruction of the myelin causes reduced communication between the brain and the nerve pathways. Due to the above noted destruction of myelin and the fact that in involves the nerves and the spinal cord. Common MS symptoms are: visual ...
Electromyography and nerve conduction study (EMG and NCS). A diagnostic procedure conducted together that records and analyzes electrical impulses in the muscles. During the EMG, thin needles are placed in the muscle to record electrical activity. The NCS is often done along with the EMG to determine if a nerve is functioning normally. Electrodes are then placed in various locations on the skin along the nerve pathway. When stimulating the nerve at various places, the doctor can then determine the specific site of the injury. ...
Method and apparatus for optically stimulating neurons of a plurality of auditory nerve pathways of a person to provide auditory sensations for the person by generating a plurality of pulsed light signals having one or more successive pulses. The spectrum of a detected audio signal is divided into M channels. In some embodiments, an N-of-M coding strategy is employed, where, for any given time frame, only N of the M channels are selected and illuminated to stimulate the auditory nerves. In some embodiments, the M channels are organized into bins, where, for any given time frame, only a maximum number of channels are illuminated per bin. This limits the number of illuminated channels-per-length of cochlea and therefore prevents localized heating of the cochlea and reduces power consumption of the device.
Thousands of people with a debilitating eye disorder that causes involuntary blinking could be spared painful injections thanks to a simple device that clips on to spectacles.. The condition is known as blepharospasm and in sufferers the motor cortex - the part of the brain that controls voluntary muscle activity such as blinking - becomes over-excited.. Signals travel down nerve pathways in the temples, prompting the muscle that surrounds the eye to close uncontrollably.. Current treatment includes Botox jabs around the eyes to weaken the muscles.. Now experts at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, are testing a device called Pressop, which clips on to a patients glasses and puts pressure on the temple to block the faulty nerve impulses.. ...
Amethyst affects the nervous and endocrine systems; useful in states of nervous tension where the five senses (especially hearing) are overtaxed; helpful when the hormonal system is affected by excessive adrenalin, creating mood swings and nervous excitation followed by exhaustion. Profoundly affects sleep patterns; can soothe troubled sleep or encourage somnolence in the insomniac. For easing mental disorders where there is too much excitement of the senses. Nervous tension with an inability to relax. For damaged nerves in the spinal column especially where the nerve pathways are interrupted causing difficulties in relaying sensations or when nerve pains become all-consuming causing the patient to be unable to function normally. Internal trembling ...
Back in May of this year, I posted an article titled Trigger Points (TrPs) In Detail and thought I would take it a step further by describing additional TrPs that I learned about via the Precision Neural Mobilization seminar I attended. Before I list them however, please allow me to give you some other details.. 1) TrPs may be caused by several factors, including acute or chronic muscle overload, activation by other TrPs, disease, psychological distress, homeostatic imbalances, direct trauma to the region, accident trauma, radiculopathy, and infections/health issues.. 2) TrPs form only in muscles-as a local contraction in a small number of muscle fibers located within in a larger muscle or muscle bundle. They can pull on tendons and ligaments associated with the muscle, which in turn, can cause pain deep within a joint where there are no muscles. They can also cause muscle weakness.. 3) TrP referral patterns follow specific nerve pathways and have been readily mapped-thanks to Travell & ...
Spasticity is a condition that causes an abnormal increase in muscle tone. It is usually caused by damage to nerve pathways within the spinal cord and brain.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot : 72 Deafness, autosomal recessive, 6: A form of non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss. Sensorineural deafness results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear, the nerve pathways to the brain, or the area of the brain that receives sound information ...
Fluanxol Depot: Flupenthixol belongs to the family of medications known as thioxanthenes. This medication is used in the treatment of nervous, mental, and emotional conditions, but it is primarily used to treat schizophrenia. It is thought to work by affecting nerve pathways in certain areas of the brain.
Systems and methods that treat disorders of the gastrointestinal tract by applying one or more treatment agents to tissue at or near the region where abnormal neurological symptoms or abnormal tissue conditions exist. The treatment agent is selected to either disrupt the abnormal nerve pathways and/or to alleviate the abnormal tissue conditions. The treatment agent can include at least one cytokine and/or at least one vanilloid compound to evoke a desired tissue response. The systems and methods can be used a primary treatment modality, or as a neoadjuvent or adjuvant treatment modality.

One of the most common signs of infection in the body is pain, and teeth are no exception. Infections can be especially painful when they happen in our teeth.. Teeth have the unique disadvantage of being exposed to the environment. If the tooth decays enough, it can leave the nerve unprotected, which can be agonizing. Theres a reason being extremely irritating is called striking a nerve.. This isnt the case for all nerves, though. Our bodies contain three different types of nerves, each with different purposes. Motor nerves are responsible for helping us move, and the symptoms of motor nerve damage often cause weakness or difficulty functioning in the affected area.. Autonomic nerves deal with basic functions such as feeling pain, keeping our bodies cool, and getting rid of waste. When these nerves are damaged, our ability to perform those functions may suffer. Though autonomic nerves are responsible for certain types of pain, you may lose sensation when theyre damaged.. The third type of ...
Caring for people with dementia and treating them is a major challenge for the health care system in Germany. Among the challenges for population-based health care research are (a) identification and early recognition, (b) multimorbidity and (c) the integration of persons with dementia into the health care system. One setting which is identified to meet the challenges is the primary care setting and there especially the general physician. There have been a few interventional studies, which have been restricted to selective samples and have been conducted in inpatient settings.. The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy of implementing a subsidiary support system for persons with dementia living at home. This subsidiary support system is initiated by a Dementia Care Manager (DCM), a nurse with dementia-specific advanced training. The main goals are to improve quality of life and health care of the person with dementia and reduce caregiver´s burden.. The study is a general physician based ...

When implanted medical device products starts breaking, what is the basic human response from the creators of those devices?. One answer can be found in the case of a hernia repair device made by a subsidiary of C. R. Bard Inc. In late 2005, the company sent out a recall, urging doctors to stop using some versions of the product because a plastic component could break and cut through a patients internal organs and tissue.. At the time, Bard executives said they knew about some serious injuries potentially caused by the device, which is known as the Kugel patch. Since then, the Food and Drug Administration has received reports of more than 80 injuries and other problems possibly related to it, including several fatalities.. Bard officials said recently in a statement that they had not recalled the product sooner because complaints about failures were too few and unrelated to raise any alarms. The company also said that both it and the subsidiary, Davol Inc., had reacted responsibly.. But when ...
