Attitudes - cognitive representations of our evaluation of ourselves, other people, things, actions, events, ideas - and attitude change have been a central concern in social psychology since the discipline began. People can - and do - have attitudes on an infinite range of things but what are attitudes, how do we form them and how can they be modified? This book provides the student with a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the basic issues in the psychological study of attitudes. Drawing on research from Europe and the USA it presents up-to-date coverage of the key issues that will be encountered in this area, including attitude formation and change, functions of attitudes, attitude measurement, attitudes as temporary constructs, persuasion processes and prediction of behaviour from attitudes ...

Many Al-Qaeda militants including senior leaders have been targeted by US drones in Yemeni southern and southeastern regions in the past months. Downloadable! In this paper we develop a new empirical approach to uncover the causal link from social attitudes to economic development. We first show that social attitudes of second-generation Americans are significantly influenced by the country of origin of their forebears. In the spirit of the epidemiology literature, we interpret this phenomenon as the consequence of a causal effect of inherited social attitudes. This leads us to use the social attitudes of second-generation Americans as an instrument for the social attitudes in the home country of their parents to identify the causal effect of inherited social attitudes on economic development. This strategy allows us to isolate the specific contribution of social attitudes relatively to other traditional candidates, such as invariant institutions or geography, by controlling for country fixed effects. We find that inherited social attitudes had a strong specific causal impact on per capita output and other measures of macroeconomic performance
OBJECTIVE: A previous positron emission tomography (PET) study reported increased serotonin 5-HT(2A) receptor binding in unmedicated depressed patients with high scores on the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale. The purpose of the present study was to use the highly selective 5-HT(2A) receptor ligand [(11)C]MDL 100,907 in a PET imaging paradigm to assess 1) 5-HT(2A) receptor binding potential in euthymic subjects with a history of recurrent depression and 2) the relationship between receptor binding and scores on the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale. METHOD: Cortical 5-HT(2A) receptor binding was measured in 20 unmedicated, fully recovered unipolar depressed patients and 20 age- and gender-matched comparison subjects. Regional estimates of binding potential were obtained using a reversible plasma input function compartmental model and the cerebellum as a reference region to estimate the free and non-specifically bound [(11)C]MDL 100,907 in brain tissue. RESULTS: Relative to the comparison subjects, the
Public attitudes on immigrants have changed significantly over time. A common theme in previous studies has been that less educated, foreign-born and older people tend to hold fewer positive opinions towards immigration relative to the average population. Unlike the opposite trends experienced in most European countries and the U.S., public opinion towards immigration in Canada has grown increasingly positive throughout the last two decades. This positive cultural attitude has been increasing since 1996 and has surpassed negative attitudes since 2000. This project aims to investigate the specific reasons behind these differences by tracking the changes of factors over time from a general, cultural and economic perspective.. ...
Our hypothesis was that living in Sweden facilitates attitude change regarding FGC, and our aim was to speed up this process through an intervention. However, there was already a high opposition towards all forms of FGC among Somali men and women, including newly arrived, suggesting that negative attitudes toward FGC are more widespread than we anticipated. Furthermore, among proponents of FGC, the support for practices causing anatomical change was low. This is reflected in the mean values of the VAS for newly arrived being 5.2 mm and 8.8 mm for outcomes 1 and 2, respectively. We had calculated the sample size to be able to detect a change of 15 mm on the VAS. Thus, with this baseline, it would have been difficult to detect a change in attitudes before and after an intervention without increasing the sample size significantly, which would have required resources we did not have. As a consequence, it would also not have been possible to evaluate the actual effectiveness of the intervention, ...
Attitude is a hypothetical construct representing ones degree of like or dislike for something. This survey, the first in an annual series, is designed to monitor trends in a wide range of social attitudes in Great Britain. The British Social Attitudes Survey (BSA) is similar in purpose to the General Social Survey carried out by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) in the United States. The BSA questionnaire had two parts, one administered by an interviewer and the other completed by the respondent. This survey contained questions on political orientation, including attitudes toward the parties, likely voting behavior in the next British General Election, political tolerance, and relations with other nations. Other topics include beliefs and expectations concerning both national and personal economic conditions, attitudes toward government spending and programs, social problems such as crime and racial prejudice, and attitudes toward marriage and sexual mores. Additional demographic data gathered included age, gender, education, occupation, household income, marital status, social ...

Ive debated countless times on how much a candidates attitude affects a potential employers hiring decision. When it comes to the hiring game, there are many intangibles, and the one I hear about most often is attitude. Lets face it, if you want your team to perform at peak levels, adding a new team member is a very big deal, so lets take a closer look to see if seeing the glass half-full or half-empty really matters.. Half-full: People who possess a positive attitude generally have a more creative approach towards solving complex problems, as theyre usually the last person to throw in the towel. These people tend to be optimistic about the outcome in advance and possess the necessary stick-to-it-ness to fail multiple times before finding the right solution. Theyre not afraid to get back on the horse because they believe the answer is just around the corner. Glass-half-full people are persistent, and that never give up attitude gives them the will to persevere-they are wired to expect ...

There is much to be said about having a positive attitude, but I have recently developed quite a negative attitude. Negative as far as keywords go that is. Personality wise Im as chipper as ever.. At the risk of stating the ever obvious, Im going to talk about testing negative keywords. I have a client who sells plastic cards. Were all familiar with them, gift cards, rewards cards, you know the type. When I took over the account, there were very few negative keywords. I ran a Search Query Performance report and found a wonderful bunch of terms that were returning clicks on my ads. Remember my client sells the plastic gift cards, but terms such as greeting, and playing were not only resulting in impressions, but they were resulting in clicks that did not convert. It didnt take me long to build a big list of negative terms that I applied campaign wide.. Why so negative? ...

Background and Purpose-Patients respond to serious illness in different ways. We wished to determine whether different attitudes toward illness are associated with survival after stroke. METHODS:Three hundred seventy-two stroke patients were identified and medically assessed as part of a randomized trial to evaluate a stroke family care worker. They had all survived 6 months from randomization. A research psychologist visited each patient and administered the Mental Adjustment to Stroke Scale (a self-rated attitude scale based on the Mental Adjustment to Cancer Scale). Disability and dependence (Barthel Index, modified Rankin Scale) and mood (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, General Health Questionnaire 30) were also assessed. Patients were followed up in 1998 (3 to 5 years after the initial stroke) to establish their survival. We modeled the relationship between Mental Adjustment to Stroke scores and survival, adjusting for other factors associated with stroke survival. RESULTS:Eighty-two
This survey, sponsored by the Health Information Foundation at the University of Chicago and conducted at the National Opinion Research Center, consists of three component parts. Part 1, the Health Needs of Older Persons, covers health, the use of medical facilities, the cost of medical care, the older persons sources of income, his/her social relationships, attitudes toward younger family members, work, religion, and a self-evaluation of health status for persons aged 60 and over. Part 2, Household Enumeration: Noninterviewed Individuals, contains information describing persons located during the enumeration process who were unable to complete an interview. For Part 3, Public Attitudes on Older People, a cross-section of adult Americans was surveyed. This survey was mainly concerned with the level of responsibility younger and middle-aged people assumed for older relatives, the kinds of plans they were making for their own maintenance in later years, and overall attitudes on the part of all ...

You may have noticed that I have been speaking of Heaven as a state of being and you may also have noticed that I am emphasizing that its all about the attitude. Well, at this point I want to revise that attitude and bring the calling to a higher frequency. When thinking of attitude changes we are looking at choice and judgment. For example if you see the glass half empty rather than half full there seems to be a choice there. There also seems to be an attitude of comparing, judging and of worthiness. Lets just skip all that and jump straight to the mark. Its about the energy.. When your energy frequencies are up you naturally see things with a brighter view, you see the wonder in the world. Simple things become awe inspiring like the fact that an apple or a banana is a perfect food packet miraculously designed in size, wrapping and deliciousness to satisfy your nourishment. Focusing on management of your energy is much simpler than wrangling with attitudes and emotions. When we slip into ...

The main objective of this was to investigate the relationship between depression, dysfunctional attitudes (DA), and their effect on quality of life (QoL) in a sample of Romanian Hungarian cancer patients. Our sample consisted of 376 patients hospitalized with different types and grades of cancer, and was assessed with the Beck Depression Inventory, the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale, and the Functional Quality of Life Scale. We have found significant differences in depression only between age groups; significant differences in quality of life between age groups and different levels of education; significant differences of dysfunctional attitudes have been found between rural and urban patients. As our data have revealed, in the assessed population one of the most disturbing psychological changes that may accompany this life threatening illness consists in the heightened levels of depression. Taking into consideration the specificities of the traditional rural Romanian Hungarian culture, the ...

CiteSeerX - Document Details (Isaac Councill, Lee Giles, Pradeep Teregowda): An implicit association test (IAT) measures differential association of 2 target concepts with an attribute. The 2 concepts appear in a 2-choice task (e.g., flower vs. insect names), and the attribute in a 2nd task (e.g., pleasant vs. unpleasant words for an evaluation attribute). When instructions oblige highly associated categories (e.g., flower + pleasant) to share a response key, performance is faster than when less associated categories (e.g., insect + pleasant) share a key. This performance difference implicitly measures differential association of the 2 concepts with the attribute. In 3 experiments, the IAT was sensitive to (a) near-universal evaluative differences (e.g., flower vs. insect), (b) expected individual differences in evaluative associations (Japanese + pleasant vs. Korean + pleasant for Japanese vs. Korean subjects), and (c) consciously disavowed evaluative differences (Black + pleasant vs. White + pleasant

Introspection is the process by which individuals question their attitudes; either questioning why they hold their attitudes (Why introspection), or how they feel about a particular attitude object (How introspection). Previous research has suggested that Why-introspection induces attitude change, and that Why and How introspection influence attitude-behaviour consistency, persuasion, and other effects. Generally, psychologists have assumed that affective and cognitive attitude bases are the mechanism by which introspection leads to these effects. Leading perspectives originating from these findings suggest that either Why introspection changes the content of cognitive attitude bases (the skewness hypothesis), or increases the salience of cognitive attitude bases (the dominance hypothesis); whereas How introspection may increase the salience of affective attitude bases (another part of the dominance hypothesis). However, direct evidence for these mechanisms is lacking, and the distinction between ...
Periodontitis causes various diseases, including arterial sclerosis, cardiac infarction, diabetes, aspiration pneumonia, and tooth loss, all of which lower the quality of life of individuals. Risk factors of periodontitis include a lack of oral care and low secretion of saliva due to stress, accompanied by excessive activity of the sympathetic nervous system and low secretion of serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin may improve the ability of individuals to manage stressful events, while melatonin may enhance the regeneration of tooth tissues. Saliva contains melatonin, epidermal growth factor, and nerve growth factor. The production and secretion of serotonin and melanin involve epigenetic mechanisms, i.e., gene expression resulting from chemical responses with genome sequences. Warm-hearted maternal attitudes to babies during infancy and a positive lifestyle, including a well-balanced diet, moderate aerobic exercise, and a purpose in life, as well as warm-hearted human relations, may also improve the
Aim. This study aims to explain distress toward erectile dysfunction (ED), attitude toward ED drugs, and experiences with ED drug use in terms of sexual attitudes, relationship satisfaction, and sociodemographic factors among the middle-aged and elderly Chinese population. Studies show that a significant number of middle-aged and elderly men in Asia suffer from ED. However, peoples attitudes toward ED drugs are not positive. Few studies have sought to reveal the influencing factors of this negative attitude.. Methods. Nine hundred forty-six Hong Kong women and men aged 36-80 with stable partners were administered a structured questionnaire through face-to-face street-intercept survey. Self-reporting on single-item questions using a five-point Likert scale was adopted for most of the variables, including attitude toward sex, relationship satisfaction, distress toward ED, and attitude toward ED drugs. Perceived importance of sex in an intimate relationship and attitude toward sex were assessed ...
An enhanced attitudes methodology within the framework of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution (GMCR) is developed and applied to a range of environmental disputes, including a sustainable development conflict, an international climate change negotiation and a selection of brownfield conflicts over a proposed transfer of ownership. GMCR and the attitudes framework are first defined and then applied to a possible Sino-American climate negotiation over reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. A formal relationship between the attitudes framework and relative preferences is defined and associated mathematical theorems, which relate the moves and solution concepts used in both types of analysis, are proven. Significant extensions of the attitudes methodology are devised in the thesis. The first, dominating attitudes is a methodology by which the importance of a decision makers (DMs) attitudes can be used to evaluate the strength of a given state stability. The second, COalitions and ATtitudes ...
INTRODUCTION. Recent research clearly indicates that knowledge which is activated and available during evaluative processing strongly influences attitudinal judgments and attitude-behavior consistency. From both a theoretical and practical perspective it is valuable to understand what factors influence knowledge activation (i.e., information availability) and to further explore the effects of activated knowledge on attitude structures. This paper briefly reviews two sets of factors which have typically been suggested as influencing information availability-prior product-related experiences and stimulus factors--and explores the effects of sequence of advertisement processing.. Fazio and Zanna (1981) have presented a compelling argument for the idea that the relation between peoples attitudes and their behavior will be stronger when they have formed their attitudes from direct behavioral experience with the attitude object than when they have only indirect experience. One reason for this is that ...

Most of us, despite our explicit beliefs, have implicit biases. These are assumptions we make about social groups that inform our language, explicit attitudes, and actions in subtle ways. Implicit biases can be so deeply engrained that they inform our interactions with others when we arent even consciously aware of them. What this means is that even the most egalitarian-minded among us may unwittingly act in ways (or hold beliefs) that are racist or sexist, despite their desire not to do so.. Stereotype threat happens when a persons group identity, shrouded by the dominant cultures stereotypical judgements and expectations, negatively affects her own capacity to succeed. The fear, conscious or unconscious, that she will be judged according to negative stereotypes can raise self-doubt and lead a person to effectively impair her own performance, thereby narrowing her educational and career prospects.. There is a great deal of evidence to show that implicit bias and stereotype threat contribute ...

How Salespeople Use Principles of Persuasion. The research that we have discussed in this chapter reveals some of the many ways that we can persuade people to buy our products, to vote for our candidates, and to engage in other behaviors that we would like them to engage in. We have seen that we will be more successful if we use the right communicators and if we present the right messages under the right conditions. But it must also be kept in mind that a full understanding of the techniques used by persuaders may also be useful to help us avoid being persuaded by others.. Salespeople sometimes make use of the Behavior ⟶ Attitude relationship to attempt to persuade others. Regardless of whether the change is due to the cognitive principles of self-perception or the more affective principles of dissonance reduction, the attitude change that follows behavior can be strong and long lasting. This fact creates some very interesting opportunities for changing attitudes.. One approach based on this ...
The results in the table 4 revealed that out of the 11 selected independent variables of the overall farmers six variables namely education (P,0.01), herd size (P,0.01), source of farm power (P,0.01), income (P,0.01), ownership status (P,0.01) and knowledge (P,0.01) were positively and significantly associated with attitude of farmers towards utilization of draught bullocks. Age, farming experience, source of information, bullock composition were positively but not significantly associated with attitude of overall farmers towards utilization of draught bullocks. The results indicated that there is significant association between the profile of the farmers and the attitude of farmers towards utilization of draught bullocks. Among the eleven variables taken for the correlation, education has an influence with the attitude of the farmers. Education of an individual plays a major role in their attitude. Based on the education level of the farmers, their psychological evaluation may vary from one to ...

This research paper presents findings from an experimental investigation of the attitudes that people hold towards animals when they are reminded of the fact that humans and animals are creatures alike. We tested the hypothesis that mortality salience (MS) would lead participants reminded of human creatureliness to evaluate animals more negatively, especially when they reported lower self-esteem. Student participants were randomly assigned to conditions in which MS was made salient and thoughts about human creatureliness were manipulated. Participants then reported their attitudes towards animals. Lending support to the hypothesis of this study, MS led participants with lower self-esteem to rate animals more negatively, when they were reminded of human-animal similarity. The implications of these results for understanding peoples attitudes towards animals were discussed. ...
Providing parents accurate clinical information about vaccines through a website, and providing access to vaccine experts can help improve parents attitudes about vaccinating their children, according to a Kaiser Permanente study published today in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
Youre then feeling pretty horrible, weak, cant do much and it was during this time that the boat really came into its own. I didnt sail, it was on the water or in the yard, the great thing about it was that I could dream. I could dream where I was going to go, what I was going to do, how I was to improve the boat without spending an absolute fortune in the chandlers. What ideas I could gather from the magazines and adapt, what ideas I could take from my experience as a surveyor and adapt for the boat. And obviously as a surveyor you have to do drainage and sanitation, water supplies and things like that, all of which you could use because basically a boat, or at least a cruising boat is a little home, got to have all the same sort of things. And eventually I managed to achieved my dreams, I sailed across to France and over a period of three years spent four, six and then eight weeks in France over three separate summers and had crew come and join me so that I could sail with people who knew ...
A research framework for eliciting the links between class and social attitudes is proposed. It is argued that: such analyses should be based on a concept of class as qualitatively distinct positions in terms of employment relations; such an enterprise should be restricted to the following four broad attitudinal domains: attitudes to production/work, distribution/market, redistribution/state and reproduction/family; two important tasks are to map the pattern of class differences in attitudes and to test explanatory mechanisms, which can be hypothesised to be class-dependent interests and class-specific norms; political institutions and political articulation serve to modify the link between class and attitudes; two important contemporary trends in the link between class and politics may be summarised as the re-commodification of labour, and the political de-articulation of class ...
Instead of using Faith based initiatives in hospitals like you proposed, we should use this tax money to further investigate how to perfect drugs to induce the same type of reaction. You take a much bigger chance of faith initiatives not working if you cannot successfully produce the chemical reaction they have. Another chance is not inducing the effect desired, because every person varies so much. By using drugs, you bypass that chance of failure, and make the chemical reaction much more certain. When you induce this chemical reaction, you let their mind develop its on reason for positive effect. For instance two people take the drug, one gets in touch with god and because of the drug his/her attitude changes to a positive outlook. The second guy gets in touch with nature and his attitude changes because the drugs gave the same chemical reaction, but let his mind use what worked best. (153 count ...

An IAT score is computed by comparing speed and error rates on the blocks (or trials) in which the pairing of concepts is consistent with common stereotypes (images 1 and 3) to the blocks in which the pairing of the concepts is inconsistent with common stereotypes (images 2 and 4). If he is typical of most subjects, Frank will be faster and make fewer errors on stereotype-consistent trials than stereotype-inconsistent trials. While this gender-career IAT pairs concepts (e.g., male and career), other IATs, such as the race-evaluation IAT, pair a concept to an evaluation (e.g., black and bad). Other IATs test implicit attitudes toward body image, age, sexual orientation, and so on. Over 16 million unique participants having taken an IAT as of 2014 (Nosek p.c.). One recent review (Nosek et al. 2007), which tested over 700,000 subjects on the race-evaluation IAT, found that over 70% of white participants more easily associated black faces with negative words (e.g., war, bad) and white ...

January 28, 2020 For ten years, IQ has, annually, mapped the Swedes attitudes to alcohol and today this years survey, IQs Alcohol Index is presented. At the overall level, there does not appear to be any significant change in attitudes; attitudes change slowly and over a long period. However, in some areas, attitude shifts have occurred during these ten years, Karin Hagman, the CEO of IQ, writes in Aftonbladet.. Among other things, we Swedes have changed our attitude to become drunk when children are involved and to invite young people under 18 to drink. The alcohol index shows that there are fewer of us who think it is entirely wrong to get drunk when children are present, Hagman writes.. The proportion who feel that it is entirely wrong to get drunk when children are involved has decreased from 61 per cent in 2010 to 51 per cent in 2019. However, over time, the proportion who think it is OK is still around 4 per cent.. This years findings show apparent differences between women and men. ...
The results were gathered by Gallups annual Economy and Personal Finance poll, which has tracked Americans perceptions of the housing market annually since 2005. In the years following the housing crisis, 2008-2011, Gallup said Americans were more likely to look for declining home values in their local area than any appreciation. That began to change by April 2012 when public optimism about home values outweighed pessimism by 33% to 23%. Now, more than five times as many Americans believe local home values will increase as believe they will decrease. There is a strong regional bias in the survey with those living in the West most likely to think home values will increase, at 72%. Prices have risen by double digits in several western states, especially California. Conversely only 44 percent of residents in the East expect price increases. Attitudes of those in the South and Midwest closely mirror national numbers at 54 percent and 53 percent respectively. Gallup said respondents opinions may ...
The shortage of transplant kidneys has spurred debate about legalizing monetary payments to donors to increase the number of available kidneys. However, buying and selling organs faces widespread disapproval. We survey a representative sample of Americans to assess disapproval for several forms of kidney market, and to understand why individuals disapprove by identifying factors that predict disapproval, including disapproval of markets for other body parts, dislike of increased scope for markets, and distrust of markets generally. Our results suggest that while the public is potentially receptive to compensating kidney donors, among those who oppose it, general disapproval towards certain kinds of transactions is at least as important as concern about specific policy details. Between 51% and 63% of respondents approve of the various potential kidney markets we investigate, and between 42% and 58% want such markets to be legal. 38% of respondents disapprove of at least one market. Respondents ...
After a promising end to the 2015 season, 2016 has already the makes of a successful year so far for the Plattsburgh State Womens Tennis team.. This good attitude seems to give us the added strength to fight off illnesses more easily.. Some people do not know it but even the slightest negative thoughts have a greater impact on you and last longer than powerful positive thoughts.. Researchers now know that the mental attitude one has plays a definite role in the bodys immune system and its ability to fight off illnesses. A positive attitude wont cure you of all illnesses and it cant take the place of your doctor, but it can help you get better.. There are times when things are lousy, no doubt about it. This happens to everybody. Be optimistic along with being positive about yourself. Dont blame yourself for things that go wrong, and dont blame others either. Check into what you can do differently and work towards improving things for yourself and others.. In everything you attempt, always be the best you can be. And remember if a job is worth doing, its worth your best effort. Put time and attention into the small jobs as well as ...
A study exploring how far patterns of change in public attitudes to poverty and welfare relate to, and can be explained by, political and economic developments and experience both at the individual and societal level over the past three decades.
This paper is the result of a masters thesis performed at Linköping University for Saab Bofors Dynamics in Linköping, Sweden.. Attitude is defined as the orientation of a coordinate frame in reference to another coordinate frame. This is often referred to as three consecutive rotations, called roll, pitch and yaw (or heading). Attitude determination is generally performed using inertial navigation systems composed of gyros and accelerometers. These systems are highly accurate but are very expensive and experience a drift when used for a long period of time.. The global positioning system, or GPS, was developed by the US military to determine a users position, velocity and time. These parameters can all be determined by performing measurements on the GPS satellite signal code that is modulated onto the GPS satellite signal carrier. But the GPS signal can also be use to determine attitude by performing carrier measurements for two or more GPS antennas. When determining the relative position ...

The goal of this study was to investigate the attitudes of Colombians with respect to what can and what must not be said to young people of different ages and genders regarding sexuality. A convenience sample of 329 adults, aged 18-64 years, living in Bogotá participated in the study. They were presented with a set of 36 vignettes describing situations in which either a young girl or a young boy seemed to be concerned about sexuality and sexual relationships. Each scenario contained three items of information: the childs gender, age and the parents decision (e.g. not to say anything regarding sexuality). Through cluster analysis, seven qualitatively different sets of attitudes were found. The five most common ones were: (i) it is never appropriate to talk about sexual matters (6%); (ii) delegate this responsibility to the school nurse (4%); (iii) provide incomplete information restricted to the biology of sexuality (11%); (iv) provide comprehensive information but with a recommendation of ...

Taking a control theory view of software process innovation, we tested prevalent beliefs regarding software process maturity and Information Systems employee attitudes and perceptions by surveying 736 IS professionals in 10 organizations at varying levels of the CMM (capability maturity model). Although anecdotal reports and the scant empirical studies to date suggest job attitudes and perceptions are more positive for employees in organizations at higher levels of software process maturity, we found evidence of a more complex picture. While our data supported expectations that role conflict and perceived work overload were lower for IS professionals in organizations at a level of maturity where software process behavioral controls are implemented, other results were not fully in line with prevalent beliefs. Most notably, IS workers reported significantly lower professional efficacy and lower job satisfaction in organizations at CMM Level 3, where behavioral controls are the dominant form of formal
This was a survey research whose purpose was to investigate the weaning knowledge, attitudes and practices among mothers with infants in Makuyu Division, Maragua District. The major objectives of this study were to (1) determine the level of weaning knowledge among mothers with infants aged birth to 12 months. (2) Investigate the attitudes of mothers towards the weaning process (3) Investigate the weaning practices that mothers carry out. (4) Investigate the cultural beliefs and traditions influencing the weaning process. The data for this study was collected using an interview schedule, which was administered by the researcher to a sample of 160 mothers with infants from Makuyu Division. A sample size of 160 was adequate because this represented almost 10% of the sample frame. In addition, the method of data collection is time consuming and is used in obtaining in-depth information. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and descriptive statistics ...
This dissertation focuses on what it means to think that or to think whether something is the case. First, I show that the type of clause that think combines with makes a difference in the kind of attitude a thought report ascribes, and in the kind of eventuality that it describes. With a declarative complement, think entails belief and introduces an eventuality description that may (but need not be) stative. With a question complement, think introduces an eventuality description that is necessarily dynamic, and often deliberative. In this case, there is no entailment of belief, but one of agnosticism and curiosity about the answer to the embedded question. This, and a second generalization that governs the attitude related and the aspectual properties of think that and of think whether hold cross-linguistically. Second, I attempt to square the observation that think whether is grammatical and necessarily dynamic with two recent proposals that predict that think should be ungrammatical with embedded
The local authority has been working in partnership with Engie for nearly seven years to provide planning services across Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and the surrounding villages. It focuses on encouraging inward investment, new jobs and regeneration in the borough, while providing the additional capacity, skills and expertise needed to enable growth.. It took the The Local Authority Team of the Year Award at The Royal Town Planning Institutes Awards for Planning Excellence.. Nick Raynsford, former planning and housing minister and chair of the judging panel, said: This partnership is a high-performing planning team with a can-do attitude. Their enabling not controlling attitude to development should be held up as an exemplar. Feedback shows their planners are transparent, proactive, pragmatic, objective and professional. They have some great ideas for best practice including paper free planning, commitment to staff development, joined-up working and face-to-face or telephone ...
