Treatment of distal biceps tendon partial tear Distal biceps tendon tear can be treated by avoiding invasive activities and also using pain-relieving medication with the use of ice in the affected area. As the pain reduces, there affected area should be stretched gently to strengthen it. This may fail and result in constant pain. In such as case surgery can be recommended. This will involve several procedures including the re-attachment of the distal biceps tendon. Depending on the severity, you may require one or two incisions. However, you dont have to go through all this complex and painful procedure. This is because recently regenerative medicine techniques called Amniotic Regenerative Cell Therapy has been developed that can actually help heal this condition safer and quicker than surgery without the invasive techniques of surgery. Thats not all; the recovery time is typically much faster when this technique is used. You can contact us to learn more about how these procedures help repair ...

The total number of fractures of the upper and lower extremities treated in physician offices, emergency departments, and hospitals, while fluctuating from year to year, has varied between 12 million and 15 million from 1998 to 2010. Upper limb fractures, including those of the arm, forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers, have accounted for slightly more than one-half of all fractures, with a range of 52% to 59%. Fractures of the upper arm, or humerus, are the least common. In recent years, upper arm fractures have accounted for about 20% of total upper limb fractures. Fractures of the wrist, hand, and fingers occur slightly more often than fractures of the forearm ...

A new study suggests that number of people who go to the emergency department (ED) for a broken arm could rise by nearly a third by 2030, when the youngest baby boomers turn 65, says an article by Reuters. Researchers analyzed data on 28 million ED visits across the United States in 2008 and found 370,000 cases of humerus fractures. Children ages 5-9 accounted for the highest overall number of humerus breaks, but the arm injuries also spiked among women after age 40 and men after age 60. The researchers report that 38.7 million Americans were 65 or older in 2008, but in 2030, that number will be 71.5 million. In their article, published in Arthritis Care Research, the researchers project 490,000 ED visits for humerus breaks in that year, with much of the increase likely to be among older Americans.. The highest number of proximal humerus breaks, an injury often associated with falls, was seen in both men and women after age 45. Those rates kept rising until about age 84. Women were more than ...

Some specialties (orthopedic surgery, for example) will be forced to create much larger superbills, unless they limit their practice to a specific body part. But the basic premise is the same. However, because of the specificity of ICD-10, and the few areas of the code book that do not contain a Not Otherwise Specified code, youll be forced to change your documentation style, or be unable to find codes for some conditions. Remember that anatomy and laterality are key in ICD-10, along with dominance (mostly for neurological conditions). Your documentation should indicate R vs L, along with whether the patient is R or L hand dominant. You might have been able to find a code for R arm fracture in the past, but now youll need to document the bone(s) involved, including the area of the bone involved. This does mean some increase in documentation, but these increases have the potential to improve documentation greatly. Continuity of care can be improved with these changes, and exchange of ...

Managing war injury is no longer the exclusive preserve of military surgeons. Increasing numbers of non-combatants are injured in modern conflicts, and peacetime surgical facilities and expertise may not be available. This article addresses the management of war wounds by non-specialist surgeons with limited resources and expertise. One of the hallmarks of war injury is the early lethality of wounds to the head, chest, and abdomen; therefore, limb injuries form a high proportion of the wounds that present at hospitals during conflicts.. ...

N2 - There are several techniques that have been described for distal biceps tendon repair but there is still controversy regarding the optimal technique. Our hypothesis is that the single-incision technique will have a similar complication rate and functionally equivalent restoration of function compared with the two-incision approach. A retrospective review of consecutive biceps tendon repairs was performed at one institution over a 5-year period. Thirty-six patients met the inclusion criteria and 26 were available for follow-up including subjective assessment, physical examination, and strength testing. Patients were divided into two groups based on the surgical approach utilized: 12 patients ...

In a review of 540 crashes in which the steering-wheel airbag deployed, 38% of the drivers sustained some level of upper extremity injury. The majority of these were AIS-1 injuries including abrasions, contusions and small lacerations. In 18 crashes the drivers sustained AIS-2 or-3 level upper extremity injuries, including fractures of the radius and/or ulna, or of the metacarpal bones, all related to airbag deployments. It was determined that six drivers sustained the fracture(s) directly from the deploying airbag or the airbag module cover. The remaining 12 drivers had fractures from the extremity being flung into interior vehicle structures, usually the instrument panel. Most drivers were taller than 170 cm and, of the 18 drivers, 10 were males ...
Wrist injuries are somewhat similar. There is a small bone on the thumb side of the wrist called the scaphoid or the navicular bone. It frequently is injured when an athlete falls on an out-stretched wrist. There will be swelling and limited, painful wrist motion. Unfortunately, this fracture does NOT show up on many wrist X-rays. Your Hand Surgeon is well aware of this, and a special radio graphic study should be performed. You may ask why a small fracture that is not easily found on X-ray is even worrisome? Well, the scaphoid has a very poor capacity to heal due to its weak blood supply. A simple non-displaced fracture evolves into a gap in the bone as areas near the fracture line absorb bone. One end of the bone may become avascular, the healing potential and return to full motion, may be lost. The answer is to find these fractures early and get them healed, which will not happen with continued use. These injuries are career changing if unfound.. The answer for finger and wrist injuries is an ...
Basketball is a challenging sport that requires participants to demonstrate physical fitness and special athletic skills at high levels. Players avoid contact while attempting to prevent the opponent from running, passing and shooting. Although basketball includes avoiding contact as a rule, contact between players is inevitable. Various injuries occur in basketball because it is a contact sport and includes sudden movements, such as bouncing, running and turning. Wheelchair (WC) basketball is characterised by manoeuvres and high-intensity activities such as rolling, rebounding, passing and overhead shooting. In WC basketball players, thoracic kyphosis is increased because of atrophy of the upper back and shoulders muscles resulting from the body posture required for WC propulsion in the sitting position as well as the effect of gravity. This sitting posture is characterised by scapular protraction and internal rotation of the humerus, and it impedes shoulder movements during upper-extremity use.

Background Monkey bar injuries account for the majority of playground injuries, and 34% result in a fracture. Studies have shown that there has been no decline in the number of monkey bar injuries over several decades. Our goal was to focus on fractures of the upper extremity resulting from monkey bar injuries. Additionally, we set out to analyze the dimensions of the monkey bar apparatus on which the injury occurred and determine if they were compliant with those recommended by the United States (US) Product Safety Commission. Methods A retrospective chart review of all upper extremity injuries seen in a large pediatric orthopedic practice in 2017 was conducted to find all monkey bar-related injuries. Data was collected including age at the time of injury, gender, and injury type. Families of the injured child were contacted to identify the exact location of the injury. On-site measurements were made of the monkey bar apparatus including height, the distance between grips, the circumference of

The weakened bone leads to an increased risk of fracture, which is often seen in the vertebrae, where it literally leads to shortening of the person, and the kind of bowed forward posture known as dowagers hump. Hip and arm fractures are also common and may occur with relatively little trauma. Osteoporosis is usually not painful and produces no symptoms until a fracture takes place. Women therefore are often totally unaware of it until they break a bone, at which point a major amount of bone has already been lost.. The mother of todays writer has lost a substantial amount of bone and should be treated actively to prevent fractures.
