The anthropometry of the upper arm is a set of measurements of the shape of the upper arms. The principal anthropometry measures are the upper arm length, the triceps skin fold (TSF), and the (mid-)upper arm circumference ((M)UAC). The derived measures include the (mid-)upper arm muscle area ((M)UAMA), the (mid-)upper arm fat area ((M)UAFA), and the arm fat index. Although they are not directly convertible into measures of overall body fat weight and density, and research has questioned the connection between skinfold fat and deep body fat measurements, these measures are and have been used as rough indicators of body fat. Factors influencing the bone, fat, and muscle composition of the upper arm include age, sex, nutritional status, fitness training level, and race. The anthropometric measures of the upper arm are divided into principal measures, which are measured directly, and derived measures, which are derived from the principal measures using specific formulae and empirically-derived ...
Obtaining Arm Length from a Known Height. with some additional considerations for error estimation and foreshortening. Based on work by Gigantofootecus. 1: You can use someones known height to measure their arm length in a photo.. 2: Bob H. has a humerus of 73 pixels as measured from his image. 3: Bob H. has a radius of 55 pixels as measured from his image. 4: Note that there would be foreshortening for the arms, particularly the lower arms, and I dont see that this is being taken into account. His lower arm especially will appear to be shorter than it really is. Try standing the same way as you see in the picture and see the angle of the lower arm in particular. You would have to estimate this angle and use the trigonometric cosine ratio to make a correction, on both upper arm and lower arm, for a better estimate.. My rough and ready estimate is 10 degrees from the vertical for the upper arm, maybe +/- 5 degrees. The cosine of 10 degrees appears to be 0.98. So, adjusting for foreshortening in ...

The objective of the present study was to examine the relationship between maximal effort force production and anthropometric measures of upper-arm volume. Thirty healthy young participants (15 women) performed 5 isokinetic concentric and eccentric maximal effort elbow flexor/extensor contractions on separate days. Measures of arm length, circumference, and skinfold/subcutaneous fat thickness were used to obtain a measure of arm volume, modeled as 2 separate right-angle frustra. Single-variable regression analyses demonstrated significant (P , .001) second-order polynomial relationships between maximal effort elbow flexor and extensor force with arm volume (r2 = .63-.86). The major findings demonstrated that strong and positive relations between maximal force production and estimates of limb volume can be observed using nonlinear modeling and a closer geometric representation of the exercising limb. ...
Over the past week, the Government has worked closely with the taxi and Private Hire Car (PHC) operators, the National Taxi Association (NTA) and the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) to gather ground feedback on the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) outbreak on the Point-to-Point (P2P) industry. Operators have reflected that ridership has declined significantly. In turn, taxi and PHC drivers have seen their livelihoods badly affected.. 2. The Government recognises that there is an urgent need for targeted assistance to drivers, so as to ensure sustainable P2P services for Singapore commuters. Earlier today, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Communications and Information, Dr Janil Puthucheary announced that the Government has worked closely with taxi (Comfort, CityCab, SMRT Taxis, Trans-Cab, Premier Taxis, Prime and HDT Taxi) and PHC (Grab and Gojek) operators and driver associations to launch a $77 million Point-to-Point Support ...

Before we start rigging the arm we have to prepare it to make sure that the joints properly rotate. In picture 1 we can see that the lower side of the upper arm is straight and does not have an outline, while the upper part of the lower arm has an outline that is curved. The bottom part of the lower arm does not have an outline and is also straight. The joint of the hand is also curved with an outline. To make sure that the joint parts of the arm rotate correctly, we made them with the help of a couple of crosshairs (picture 3). In picture 4 and picture 5 we can see how the horizontal crosshair line matches the straight line of the bottom of the upper arm and at the same time the outline of the circle of the crosshair matches the top curved outline of the lower arm. The same principle is applied to the hand and the bottom part of the lower arm. The crosshairs also mark the centre of the rotation point that will later be used when placing the bones. Before placing the bones we can align the Group ...

Ask a kid to show you their muscles and theres a good chance theyll flex their arms in a front bicep pose. This is probably because the arms are the muscles which are on show the most. Arms are probably the most common muscle group youll see people working on daily in gyms around the world. This can be for performance reasons, as well as to look good, with many men aiming for bigger arms and women aiming for lean, toned arms. Before we go into arm training and the workouts that I find effective, its important to learn and understand the anatomy of the muscles that collectively make up the arms … image source: www.armwrestlingaustralia.comTriceps Triceps make up most of the arms, around two-thirds. Seeing as he doesnt want us at the hospital, were staying home. Joshs wife will call or text Mom with information about the surgery. This is causing her a great deal of mental anguish.. This is not the first time he has caused her pain. In the last year of our fathers life, when Dads illness was getting progressively worse, Mom asked him to come and visit Dad. He rarely visited, and when I could get him to visit, I had to practically beg him to come. The last time Dad went in the hospital, Josh went to Easter brunch with his in-laws before coming to the hospital. Several years ago, when Mom was in the hospital, Josh traveled through the city and failed ...
Few of us think about the fact that billions of our cells die each day. They die because they are old and need to be refreshed (red blood cells), are not needed, or are a danger to us. Scientists have discovered two distinct pathways for death - apoptosis (programmed cell death (PD)) and necrosis. Some scientists feel that these two are actually a continuum.. PD involves a cascade or activation of enzymes to carefully deconstruct a cell. It is a very controlled pathway that is highly regulated and requires energy. Necrosis does not require energy but results in the outpouring of intracellular material into the body that is potentially toxic to surrounding cells. As an example, trauma produces necrosis.. There are several pathways that lead to PD. The immune system is involved in this activity and can initiate PD through activated T-cells. For years scientists have tried to understand why the immune system does not kill cancer cells, which obviously are a threat. T-cells have a PD receptor ...

Brachioplasty (commonly referred to as arm surgery) is a surgical procedure used to reshape a persons arm to meet the aesthetic goals for their body. Arm lift surgery targets the under part of the arm (or triceps) from the top of the under arm down to the elbow. Excess skin is removed from the arm, reshaping the area to give the arm more tone and definition. The result is a more proportionate and toned looking arm. Why Seek an Arm Lift?

|i|Background|/i|. Bilateral arm training (BAT) has shown promise in expediting progress toward upper limb recovery in chronic stroke patients, but its neural correlates are poorly understood. |i|Objective|/i|. To evaluate changes in upper limb function and EEG power after a robot-assisted BAT in chronic stroke patients. |i|Methods|/i|. In a within-subject design, seven right-handed chronic stroke patients with upper limb paresis received 21 sessions (3 days/week) of the robot-assisted BAT. The outcomes were changes in score on the upper limb section of the Fugl-Meyer assessment (FM), Motricity Index (MI), and Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) evaluated at the baseline (T|sub|0|/sub|), posttraining (T|sub|1|/sub|), and 1-month follow-up (T|sub|2|/sub|). Event-related desynchronization/synchronization were calculated in the upper alpha and the beta frequency ranges. |i|Results|/i|. Significant improvement in all outcomes was measured over the course of the study. Changes in FM were significant at T

In control, stability captures the reproducibility of motions and the robustness to environmental and internal perturbations. This paper examines how stability can be evaluated in human movements, and possible mechanisms by which humans ensure stability. First, a measure of stability is introduced, which is simple to apply to human movements and corresponds to Lyapunov exponents. Its application to real data shows that it is able to distinguish effectively between stable and unstable dynamics. A computational model is then used to investigate stability in human arm movements, which takes into account motor output variability and computes the force to perform a task according to an inverse dynamics model. Simulation results suggest that even a large time delay does not affect movement stability as long as the reflex feedback is small relative to muscle elasticity. Simulations are also used to demonstrate that existing learning schemes, using a monotonic antisymmetric update law, cannot compensate ...

Physical therapy helped promote the recovery of arm function and neuroplasticity in chronic stroke patients, suggests a study published recently in the Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice.. In the study, Raquel Carvalho, PT, from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, and colleagues assessed the effect of physical therapy based on problem-solving in recovering arm function in three chronic stroke patients. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (during motor imagery and performance), the action research arm test, the motor assessment scale, and the Fugl-Meyer assessment scale were used to evaluate neuroplasticity and function.. The researchers found that all patients recovered more than 20% after the intervention. At baseline, stroke patients had increased areas similar to healthy subjects during motor execution but not during imagination. After the intervention, all patients increased activity in the contralateral precentral area, explains a media release from HealthDay.. This study ...

The following key treats clearly defined or named genera within the family Octopodidae. The generic placement of many taxa within this family remain unresolved and are thus not covered by this key. These taxa are treated below under the general category unplaced Octopus. Genera designated with an asterisk (*) are in urgent need of revision.. Notes for key:. Male diagnostic characters: As for many other cephalopod groups, octopus taxonomy relies heavily on the reproductive charactersof mature males, particularly structures of the modified reproductive arm (hectocotylised arm). Female material is harder to identify.. Arm lengths: Use of relative arm lengths requires intact arms. Getting rid of flabby arms entails being in a negative caloric state. There is no way around this. You have to eat less calories to lose more arm fat.. Now dont get all bent out of shape. You see, by paying attention to what foods you are eating, you can eat more food while eating less calories.. Now some women go about restricting calories the bad way. And if you do this, losing arm fat will seem like a nightmare.. So here are 4 things you should not be doing when trying to get into a negative caloric balance to lose arm fat:. 1. Cranking up activity only. In addition to increasing your levels of physical activity, you have to watch what you eat. Doing so will ensure the fastest and healthiest loss in arm fat.. 2. Visually estimating how much youre eating. Often times, women will simply put 50% less on their plate and hope for the best. Why hope for the best when you can secure the best? Simply restricting how much food you eat is very shortsighted, there is a lot more involved here.. 3. ...

Firstly you may have bad circulation. If your arm is feeling cold and numb then its possible that not enough blood is reaching the area. This can be further caused/exacerbated by medication so if youre on any prescription drugs look at whether this could be causing the problem. Alternatively seek medication to improve your circulation.. Left arm pain and tingling can also be caused by a dead arm. When this isnt caused by poor circulation it can also be caused by lying awkwardly or lack of movement. This sensation feels like your arm has become dull and heavy and then begins to tingle with cold feeling pins and needles. Similarly muscle cramp or spasm can cause similar sensations.. Left arm pain and tingling can even be psychosomatic, meaning that its caused by psychological processes. This doesnt mean its made up by any means, but means that its a result of the complex link between mind and body. If you experience panic attacks or anxiety disorders for example then your arm pain may ...

The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of soft tissue artifact during three-dimensional motion capture and assess the effectiveness of an optimization method to reduce this effect. Four subjects were captured performing upper-arm internal-external rotation with retro-reflective marker sets attached to their upper extremities. A mechanical arm, with the same marker set attached, replicated the tasks human subjects performed. Artificial sinusoidal noise was then added to the recorded mechanical arm data to simulate soft tissue artifact. All data were processed by an optimization model. The result from both human and mechanical arm kinematic data demonstrates that soft tissue artifact can be reduced by an optimization model, although this error cannot be successfully eliminated. The soft tissue artifact from human subjects and the simulated soft tissue artifact from artificial sinusoidal noise were demonstrated to be considerably different. It was therefore concluded that the ...

After resting quietly in a seated position for 5 minutes and after the participants maximum inflation level (MIL) has been determined, three consecutive BP readings are obtained. If a BP measurement is interrupted or incomplete, a fourth attempt may be made. All BP determinations (systolic and diastolic) are taken in the mobile examination center (MEC). Participants with any of the following on both arms were excluded from the exam: rashes, gauze dressings, casts, edema, paralysis, tubes, open sores or wounds, withered arms, a-v shunts, radical mastectomy. Participants were also excluded if the BP cuff does not fit on the arm. BP measurements are taken in the right arm unless specific conditions prohibit the use of the right arm, or, if participants report any reason that the BP measurements should not be taken in the right arm.. Prior to BP measurements, upper arm circumference is measured, which is done to guide selection of cuff size. Details on the protocol for obtaining upper arm ...

Third generation gravitational wave detectors such as the Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer could be the newest members of an ever-expanding network of current and planned ground-based detectors across the globe. With each detector addition, a more sensitive network is created with improved capabilities. In this presentation, we explore how well current and proposed detector network configurations constrain the tidal deformability and radii of neutron star sources and how third generation of detectors will improve these. Specifically, we focus on how the capability of possible 3G detector networks changes for different arm lengths and bandwidths of Cosmic Explorer ...

Drag Race series Rear Lower Control Arms, for 1979-98 Mustang, with adjustable-height spring perch and spherical bearings.. When your Mustang has Big Power (in the neighborhood of 600 to 1,000 ft-lb of torque at the rear wheels) you need rear lower control arms that are a step above the rest. Maximum Motorsports Drag Race series control arms provide the ride height adjustability essential to tuning for the optimum launch, along with the robustness required for hard launches at the strip with Big Power on slicks.. These Drag race control arms are intended for Mustangs with a power level exceeding the 600rwhp rating of MMs curved adjustable control arms. The straight tube of these control arms was designed for launching a 3,800 lb Mustang cutting a 60-foot time as quick as 1.20 seconds. That rating is for a standard 4-link suspension. If you Mustang is equipped with a torque-arm, the loads on the rear lower control arms are much lower, and therefore he MM Drag Race control arms can handle even ...
