In this study, SNP rs1241321 in DDAH1 was found to be associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes independently of the plasma ADMA level. In addition, individuals with an AA genotype at rs1241321 appeared to be more insulin-sensitive when compared with AG/GG individuals. Over a median follow-up period of 28.2 months, AA genotype at rs1241321 was associated with better long-term clinical outcome in diabetic subgroup. The abnormal regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) is associated with neurodegenerative disorders. Recombinant arginine deiminase (rADI) is a selective NO modulator of iNOS and eNOS in endothelial cells, and it also exhibits neuroprotective activity in an iNOS-induced neuron-microglia coculture system.
