JERUSALEM, Nov. 7 (JTA) - Israel´s Knesset has voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of an Israeli Arab legislator. The vote is likely to exacerbate already strained relations between the country´s Jewish and Arab communities. Wednesday´s vote - after a Knesset committee recommended the step on Monday - came after the attorney general, Elyakim Rubinstein, filed two separate indictments against Azmi Beshara. The first was over a call Beshara issued during a speech in Syria earlier this year for the Arab world to unite against the warmongering government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The speech was made in front of sworn enemies of the Jewish state such as Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The second indictment was for visits Beshara arranged of Israeli Arabs to Syria without the approval of Israeli authorities. After Wednesday´s vote, Beshara said he had fallen victim to extremist nationalist movements in the Knesset. Beshara denied the incitement charge, saying he had never ...

Summary. Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued to violate Palestinians human rights and commit crimes against civilians and their properties, conducting raids into Palestinian cities without regard to the state of emergency declared across the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 06 March 2020, in the efforts put forward to combat the spread of coronavirus. IOF raids are conducted without proper attention to prevention and safety standards to mitigate the risk of transmitting coronavirus to Palestinian territory, as the virus is widespread throughout Israel. PCHR is concerned that Israeli raids undermine preventive measures adopted by the government. Meanwhile, settlers backed up by IOF continued to seize more civilian property and attack civilians and their property.. This week, PCHR documented 98 violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law (IHL) by IOF and settlers in the oPt. As the state of emergency enters its 5th week, as well as the extreme ...

This article evaluates Arab public opinion with the Arab Opinion Index by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) in Doha, Qatar. The Index covers 12 Arab countries with 85 percent of the population of the entire Arab world. The data was weighted by UNDP population figures in order to arrive at conclusions about the totality of opinions in the Arab states. There is indeed overwhelming support for democracy and change in the region, but, at the same time, the data imply real basic weaknesses of civil society support for the structures of democracy.. Ever since the revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya in 2011, the question has arisen as to how big the real support for democracy in the Arab world is. Recent events in Egypt have led many observers to think that instead of an Arab Spring, one should rather talk about an Arab Winter.[1] Thousands of reports and opinion pieces in the worlds media and scholarly articles have been published on the issue, but hard facts on mass ...

Middle East Monitor / December 30, 2020. The Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies (MADAR) said Arab and Israeli indicators show that the majority of Arabs reject normalisation with Israel and view the Palestinian issue as the core of the conflict in the region, despite the recent deals concluded between Tel Aviv and a number of Arab countries.. In a new report, MADAR said over the last two years, Israel and its new allies have used Arab social media influencers especially in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to call for normalisation with the occupation state.. MADAR said in addition to social media influencers, journalists and even clerics have gone as far as attacking Palestinians and questioning the status of Palestine, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid silence from the ruling regimes.. Meanwhile, the report notes, Israeli official social media accounts have celebrated such posts and re-shared them to create a general feeling that the Arab people accept and welcome normalisation and ...

When the United Nations General Assembly voted in 1947 to partition Palestine into a Jewish State, an Arab State, and an internationally administered enclave of Jerusalem, a more broad region of the modern-day West Bank was assigned to the Arab State. In the 1948 Arab-Israeli War most of the area assigned to the Arab State was occupied by Jordanian and Iraqi forces. Jordan annexed the West Bank after the war, and the annexation was recognized by the UK. The idea of an independent Palestinian state was not raised by the Arab populations there at the time, due to lack of political representation. King Abdullah of Jordan was crowned King of Jerusalem and granted Palestinian Arabs in the West Bank and East Jerusalem Jordanian citizenship. ...
Look at the timeline of events in the Arab Spring and you will see that women have played a huge role in its development. Yet the contribution women make to the economy in the Arab world cannot be examined outside the framework of the political and social context. Many reports have indicated that the gap between women and men, and the percentage of women joining the workforce in the Arab world, is decreasing. Such reports are misleading and paint contrary pictures by concentrating only on one side of the coin and ignoring the political facts that exert such an influence on the percentages of women in the workforce. Women need political support to fortify their struggle and sustain their economic contributions.. The political activism of Arab women has increased enormously, compared to that of men. The so-called The Arab Spring was a social revolution before being a political one. However, it has been hijacked and driven in the other direction, restricting the space for freedom of expression ...
While the entire world is busy in its efforts to combat terrorism, the Israeli government is exploiting the situation by further increasing its unilateral steps and creating facts on the ground that are aggravating Palestinians aspiration for peace and justice.. On 24 September, 2001, the Israeli government issued a military order numbered 01/01/s (see document in Arabic page1, page2) through which 80,000 Dunums of Palestinian land (1.4% of the total area of the West Bank) in the North of the West Bank were declared as closed military areas. JERUSALEM (AP) - A 17-year-old Palestinian died on Monday, two months after he was wounded in the neck by Israeli gunfire during clashes near the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian health authorities said. The shooting occurred during one of numerous clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces during the 11-day war in May between Israel and Hamas, the fourth conflict since the militant group seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007.. A statement from Palestinian health authorities said Youssef Nawaf died after a May 14 gunshot wound in the neck damaged his spinal cord, leaving him in critical condition.. At least 26 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank during the May fighting, according to the United Nations. At least 254 people were killed in Gaza, including 67 children and 39 women, while 12 civilians, including two children and one soldier, were killed in Israel.. Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 war. The Palestinians seek the area as the ...
Sundras, a Palestinian girl from the West Bank village of Anata, was attending a clinic funded by the Palestine Childrens Relief Fund, an Ohio-based charity that treats about 2,000 critically ill children in the Palestinian territories each year. [...] even if Sundras needs cardiac surgery, the future of the childrens charity program has been thrown into doubt by U.S. sanctions against the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority banning all contact with Palestinian hospitals and Ministry of Health employees. Under new guidelines issued April 12 by the Treasury Departments Office of Foreign Asset Control, U.S. citizens and organizations must cease all transactions with the Palestinian government, its ministries and institutions operating under their control. The Treasury directive noted that Hamas is classified as a terrorist entity, and it ordered U.S. citizens to conclude all contacts with the Palestinian Authority by Friday, unless specifically permitted to continue. U.S. persons are prohibited from
Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, WHO Director-General, announced today that the health situation of people in the occupied Palestinian territory is deteriorating as a result of the escalation of the conflict compounded by further border closures and curfews throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip since March 2002.
While many parts of the world transition to mandatory lockdown, Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory face uncertainty about how they will be protected from the spread of COVID-19. This blog will focus on the circumstances of three particularly vulnerable population groups: i) the population of Gaza, ii) child and adult detainees in Israeli prisons and detention facilities, and iii) families and individuals displaced by home demolitions.. On 19 March 2020, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released a statement on Israels legal duty, as the occupying power, to ensure that Palestinians are protected as far as possible from the spread of COVID-19. UN Special Rapporteur Michael Lynk asserted, The legal duty, anchored in Article 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, requires that Israel, the occupying power, must ensure that all the necessary preventive means available to it are utilised to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics. We note that an ...
By Nir Hasson. 15 Apr 2020 - Clinic in Silwan raided, activists arrested because kits were provided by the Palestinian Authority.. Israeli police raided a coronavirus testing clinic in the East Jerusalem Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan and arrested its organizers on Tuesday [14 Apr] night because the clinic was operated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority.. According to the clinics managers, there is a shortage of coronavirus tests in Silwan, where doctors say there are 40 confirmed cases and where overcrowded living conditions could lead to a rapid spread of the virus.. The clinic was opened in a hall at one of the local mosques. It was closed on Tuesday night because to the end-of-Passover curfew, but police officers nonetheless arrived, questioned neighbors and arrested four activists who were involved in setting up the clinic.. The coronavirus tests were meant to be processed by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. However, Israel prohibits any PA activity in Jerusalem ...
To begin with, in their negotiations with Israel, Egypt and Jordan never asserted any territorial claims against the area of sovereign Israel. Unlike many Palestinians today, the Egyptians and the Jordanians harbor no aspirations to make Israeli cities, such as Haifa or Jaffa, part of their respective states. And whereas there are no Egyptian or Jordanian national minorities living within Israel, many Arab citizens of Israel identify themselves as Palestinian nationals. Operating among them are political, religious, and ideological forces dedicated to subverting the existence of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. In 2006, for example, representatives from the National Committee for the Heads of the Arab Local Authorities in Israel issued a document entitled The Future Vision of the Palestinian Arabs in Israel, which calls for the introduction of consensual democracy in Israel, in which both the Palestinian and the Jewish nations would partner to govern Israel jointly -- the ...
Madam President, Appalling events in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territory have once again called this Council into Special Session. We have recently witnessed the most significant escalation in hostilities since 2014. According to figures verified by my Office, 242 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli Security Forces (the ISF) in strikes on Gaza, including 63 children. Thousands of others have been injured while it is estimated that over 74,000 Palestinians have been displaced. In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, 28 Palestinians, including five children, were killed as of 24 May. At the same time, rockets launched by Hamas and other armed Palestinian groups killed 10 Israeli citizens and residents including two children, and forced thousands into shelters. This escalation was directly linked to protests and a heavy response from Israeli security forces first in East Jerusalem, then spreading to the entire occupied Palestinian territory and also within Israel. Two main issues ...
Palestine is not a state. Palestine does not have a single central government, it does not have an army, it does not have control over airspace and most of the territory it claims. In practice, the Palestinian Authority, is responsible for some of the civilian needs of the residents in the West Bank (and it does that very badly if you ask me). In the Gaza Strip, theres an alternative government run by Hamas Movement.. Other than that, no one is occupying Palestine. The territories claimed by the Palestinians were occupied by Israel from Egypt and Jordan. This happened in 1967 and there was no Palestinian entity at all at this time. Also, the UN Resolution 181 (II) from 1947, to establish arab state next to a jewish state in Palestine* was rejected by the Arabs (Palestinians as well).. *at that point, people may say basically Palestine exiested before, so I note that in fact, there was never an Independent Palestinian-Arab state before. Palestine was just a region that was controlled by ...

An interview with Jonathan Cook Five Books - 25 February 2014Interviewed by: Bethan Staton Outside of the Middle East, many people understand Palestine to mean the West Bank and Gaza, and Palestinians as the people living in these areas. But Palestinians who remained in Israel after the creation of the state in 1948 - when some 700,000 were displaced in the Nakba or catastrophe - now make up around 20% of Israels population. Could you explain a bit more about this community, and why it has been overlooked? The difficulty for Palestinians remaining in what becomes Israel after 1948 is that the Palestinian national movement develops in exile, in the occupied territories and the neighboring Arab states. Palestinians in Israel are excluded and shielded from these developments and left in what amounts to a political and social ghetto. Israel strictly circumscribes their understanding of who they are and anything to do with their history, heritage and culture. Israel controls the education system, for

The Chairman of the United Nations panel dealing with Palestinian rights today expressed hope that the positive momentum gained by Israels removal of settlements from the Gaza Strip and parts of the northern West Bank would be followed by similar steps in the rest of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and
Fact, Israeli Arabs are part of the great Arab nation and have no own unique national characteristics. This approach also relies on cultural similarity that exists between the Palestinian residents of the West Bank and Gaza Arabs residents of the Kingdom of Transjordan and Arabs in Egypt and other Arab countries. Fact, Azmi Bishara, a Palestinian, said: There is no Palestinian nation, has only Arab nation.. Fact, Judaism existed over 5000 years more than all another Religion.. Fact written in the Koran: Moses said to his people, my people, remember the grace inclined you God establish you prophets and doing you kings, and gives you had not given anyone in the Universe. My people, go to the holy land that wrote you God. Sura 5 20-21 … it is written for you in black and white in the Quran then why are you denying the truth that Israel was our lot before the Palestinians came here?. Fact, we Israelis want peace and condemn all attacks on civilians and certainly not deliberately kill women and ...
Overview: The government of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has two main objectives: to reverse the peace process and its achievements, and to maintain Israels control over all of historic Palestine. Sharons immediate goal, however, is forcing the Palestinian Authority (PA) to accept Israels cease-fire terms which would permit Israel to have a security role in the Palestinian territories. Aware of Israels intentions, the Palestinians rejected the amendments to the Tenet and Mitchell plans made by U.S. Middle East Envoy Anthony Zinni. The changes would legalize Israels military actions against the PA and the Palestinian people. The nature of the ongoing Israeli military operation and the U.S. administrations support for Israel has made it difficult to see a way out of the current bloodshed. The Israeli incursion in the West Bank is creating a dynamic that will be difficult to reverse. The Israeli government seems to not only want to weaken the PA, but to entirely eliminate its security ...
This approach, now adopted by the Russians, directly harms the processes toward regulating Israels ties with Arab and Muslim states, which are based upon common interests that are not impacted by the Palestinian nationalist idea. Russia has not sufficed with publishing its stance but has acted to openly enlist the support of prominent Arab states. So, for example, ahead of the Bahrain conference, the foreign ministers of both Russia and Egypt declared that both countries were in agreement on the need for a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue. Egypt, however, sent its representatives to Bahrain. It, along with other leading countries in the region like Saudi Arabia, have a clear interest in developing the economy of the region and the Palestinian territories in particular. Both Riyadh and Cairo are interested in containing the Palestinian issue and silencing another local focal point that is getting in the way of regional development ...

“The Arab world has made huge progress in giving children access to school,” says , a nonresident fellow with the at Brookings. Yet even so, she calls the 2.6 million Syrian children out of school in the region “perhaps the biggest education crisis globally.” In the podcast, Jalbout—former CEO of the Queen Rania Foundation and a global leader on education in international development—discusses the challenges and solutions to educating children in the Arab world, why quality and not just access matters, how the education crisis is a global security issue, and why 3 out of 4 Arab women remain out of the labor force in their countries. Much of the discussion is about Jalbout’s new report, “.” Show Notes: Subscribe to the Brookings Cafeteria on , listen on , and send feedback email to .

America has been putting pressure on a number of Arab states in order to get them vote today in favour of a draft resolution it has introduced at the UN which condemns the Palestinian resistance.. According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the US Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt sent letters to diplomats from nine Arab countries asking them to support the US draft.. Haaretz reported that Greenblatt sent the letter sent to diplomats from Morocco, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Qatar.. In the letter he wrote that the Palestinian Authoritys opposition to the US proposal is hypocrisy as it considers Hamas an enemy and imposes sanctions on it in Gaza, while at the same time it defends its terrorism, Arab48 reported.. The PA and Fatah have criticised the US draft resolution, considering it absolute American support for the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians.. Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh condemned the ...
The Arab Nationalist Movement had its origins in a student group led by George Habash at the American University of Beirut which emerged in the late 1940s. In the mid-1950s Habash and his followers joined a larger student group led by Constantin Zureiq. The groups ideology owed much to Zureiqs thinking: it was revolutionary and pan-Arabist. It placed emphasis on the formation of a nationally conscious intellectual elite which would play a vanguard role in a revolution of Arab consciousness, leading to Arab unity and social progress. Ideologically, it was committed to socialism and secularism, but initially not Marxism. Its Arab nationalist approach meant an uncompromising hostility to Western imperialism in general, and Israel in particular, as the movement took a lead in the formation of anti-Zionist doctrine. The group formed branches in various Arab states, and adopted the name Arab Nationalist Movement in 1958. Some political divergence arose within the movement. Many, especially in Syria ...
This is a list of mammal species recorded in the Palestinian territories of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The following tags are used to highlight each species conservation status as assessed by the IUCN: Some species were assessed using an earlier set of criteria. Species assessed using this system have the following instead of near threatened and least concern categories: The hyraxes are four species of furry, cat-sized, thickset, herbivorous mammals that might resemble rodents at first glance, but have hooves and two caniniform incisors among other features that betray their distant evolutionary relation to elephants. They are native to Africa and the Middle East. Family: Procaviidae (hyraxes) Genus: Procavia Cape hyrax, Procavia capensis LC Rodents make up the largest order of mammals, with over 40 percent of mammalian species. The oil tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are a reminder that competition is just getting started.. The conflict between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over oil production early this year drew international attention. Experts believe that the recent tensions indicate that future competition between the two economies is possible.. The coronavirus epidemic wreaked havoc on the oil industry, with lockdowns typically accompanied a drop in oil prices. In the face of the epidemic, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), an alliance of the worlds main oil producers and partners, reduced its oil output last year. However, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had a public spat last month about how swiftly they should increase oil supply.. ...

Hundreds of Palestinians thronged two major West Bank checkpoints, trying to reach a key Islamic shrine in Jerusalem on the first Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, despite tight Israeli restrictions. Israeli troops turned back many of the West Bank faithful. Only men above the age of 45 and women above the age of 35, who had also obtained special permits, were allowed to enter Jerusalems Al Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest shrine of Islam, said police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby.. This year, the start of Ramadan, a month of fasting and religious observance, coincided with the Jewish New Year. As customary, Israel imposed a blanket closure on the West Bank during the Jewish holiday, barring virtually all Palestinians from entering Israel. Hundreds of Israeli police were deployed in streets and alleys in and around Jerusalems walled Old City where the Al Aqsa Mosque compound is located.. Troops also took up positions at two major West Bank checkpoints, one to the south of Jerusalem and ...

By: Giulia El-Dardiry. Giulia El-Dardiry listens to voices from Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut. Bourj Al-Barajneh and Shatila refugee camps are home to approximately 35,000 Palestinian refugees, expelled from Palestine in 1948 by Zionist forces. These camps are situated close to Shia suburbs in southern Beirut that have been heavily bombarded by Israeli jets since the beginning of this latest Israeli aggression against Lebanon. While the Shia suburbs have been largely emptied of their residents who have found refuge in other parts of the country or in shelters in Beirut, many of the Palestinian refugees have no choice but to remain in the camps. I remember a year ago peering into Umm Mohameds kitchen in Bourj Al-Barajneh refugee camp on the outskirts of Beirut. Below the cupboards where gigantic nylon bags filled with rice, lentils and other staple foods. Fifteen years after the civil war ended. I laughed at her caution and said that such stocking of food was unnecessary. She looked at me ...
Palestinian Authority Textbook Calls for Jihad and Martyrdom Following the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority began to devise new schoolbooks that showed a relative change in content and direction. MEMRIs 2001 study of Palestinian schoolbooks, Narrating Palestinian Nationalism, found that the Palestinian textbooks produced after Oslo reflected a general attempt to lessen the virulence of anti-Israel venom, as direct incitement significantly declined while a serious effort was made

The report was also reviewed by expert practitioners before publication in 2020.. Drivers of environmental change in the occupied Palestinian territory. In analysing drivers of the state of the environment in the occupied Palestinian territory, this report arranges drivers under the following headings: climate change and underlying environmental conditions; socioeconomic drivers; and environmental governance constraints.. Climate change and underlying environmental conditions The occupied Palestinian territory lies within a generally hot, arid and water-scarce region that has experienced an increase in temperatures over the past fifty years. Climate projections indicate that by mid-century, the temperature will increase by between 1.2°C and 2.6°C. Climate change modifies the water cycle by altering precipitation patterns and seasons: average monthly precipitation may fall by 8-10 mm by the end of the century, and seasonal rainfall patterns may also change, leading to greater aridity. ...

Our data demonstrates that rheumatology publications from the AL countries still lag behind other world regions. Several factors may influence the underrepresentation of rheumatology research in the region. These may include bias from journals toward publishing articles from their country of origin in favor of articles of local interest, WoS may not include journals from middle to low-income countries [12] or articles may be published in local Arab journals that are not indexed on WoS [13, 14]. In addition, the productivity of a country may be skewed based on its number of indexed journals, which are relatively few in the Arab world [15, 16]. Within the region, however, and over the period of 1976 to 2014, we found a consistent and significant growth in the number of publications. This is not unexpected as the world overall is seeing an increase in rheumatology publications, particularly from emerging economies [4, 17]. The Arab world in particular, has developed significantly over the past ...
7. However, in our assessment, so far the involvement of Syrian veterans in terrorism and subversion in the various Arab countries is still nascent. However, there have been cases which indicate what the future may hold: in Egypt it was reported that jihadist veterans of the Syrian conflict were detained for their involvement in terrorist activities against the Egyptian regime, or were killed during a terrorist attack carried out by the Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (which is affiliated with the global jihad).[4] In May 2014 the Saudi Arabian ministry of the interior recently announced the exposure of a terrorist network that was in contact with extremists in Syria and Yemen. In Jordan the ISISencouraged demonstrations and riots in the southern city of Maan, a hotbed of anti-regime subversive activity. In Israel, two Israeli Arabs were asked by jihadist organizations to carry out terrorist attacks in Israeli territory after they had returned from Syria. In addition, in December 2013 a jihadist network ...
عربي. Atlanta, GA…. The Carter Center hopes to observe presidential and legislative elections in Palestine, but will only consider the opportunity if the democratic principles and fundamental freedoms required for genuine and inclusive elections across the West Bank and Gaza are met. These include universal suffrage, the right to participate, and the fundamental freedoms of association, assembly, movement, and expression as enshrined in the Palestinian Basic Law, the Arab Charter on Human Rights, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Carter Center urges all political parties to respect and protect these principles.. The Jan. 25, 2010, deadline for Palestinian presidential and Legislative Council elections was missed due to a deepening rift between political parties, including arbitrary arrests of political opponents on both sides. The current impasse between the major parties is depriving Palestinians of their right to freely elect their representatives.. ...
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warns that a protracted period of global economic turmoil could prompt oil exporters to reassess their long-term oil price expectations and thus curtail infrastructure spending plans and investment in oil production, which are already low. This would have negative effects on the economy of the entire region because the demand for Arab workers in the oil-rich states would fall with consequent effect on their remittances. Inter-Arab tourism revenues would decline, resulting in less investment by the richer Arab states in the poorer ones. This, in turn, could lead to lower asset prices, which would feed through to corporate and, eventually, bank balance sheets, placing even greater stress on financial institutions in the region.. All of the Arab countries experienced rising food prices as well as increases in other costs in the first half of 2008, which badly hit the poor. Consumer prices in Egypt, Jordan, and in other countries rose by an annual rate of 25 ...
The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism.. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.. ...
Columnist Bill Maxwell does a serious disservice to readers when, disregarding fact and context, he recklessly levels false charges against Israel regarding its conduct toward the Palestinians (Israel turns page, finds a sense of humanity, Sept. 12). Moreover, his sweeping accusations betray a sharp double-standard as he turns a blind eye to the truly severe abuses inflicted on Arabs by the Palestinian Authority and neighboring Arab states. In reference to Israels just having released Palestinian prisoners in fulfillment of recent agreements, he makes the astonishing claim that the conditions under which the prisoners languished made Israel one of the worlds worst violators of human rights. By any rational measure, such a statement is baseless - including even in the estimation of Palestinians themselves.. A June 1999 poll by a Palestinian organization, the Center for Palestine Research and Studies in Nablus, found that more than 70 percent of Palestinian respondents in a sample of West Bank ...
Silat ad-Dhahr, the location of the new outbreak reported in the immediate notification above, is a Palestinian village in the Jenin governorate, 14 km (about 9 mi) east to the demarcation line (green line) between the Palestinian Authority and Israels territories, midway between Jenin and Nablus, and 30-35 km (about 19-22 mi) from the closest recent FMD outbreak in north east Israel (map at https://tinyurl.com/yah9jpgj). It is more than 90 km/about 56 mi (and 7 months) distant from the earlier FMD cluster in the Palestinian Authority (Hebron district); the current virus strain could rather be related to the recent outbreak in North-East Israel, where a new FMD event, caused by a newly introduced FMDV-O strain (topotype ME-SA, lineage PanAsia-2QOM-15) started, reportedly, on 2 Apr 2018, in the vicinity of the 3-country junction (Israel/Jordan/Syria ...

This week, the Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC) submitted information to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Situation in the Palestinian Territories Occupied Since 1967 for his upcoming report to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2017. The submission highlights the repressive environment within which human rights defenders (HRDs) work in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including East Jerusalem. In the OPT, HRDs carrying out their day-to-day work are subjected to highly oppressive measures imposed by Israels illegal regime of occupation and the closure/blockade of Gaza, including severe restrictions on freedom of movement, association and assembly, travel bans, concerted efforts to discredit and criminalize their work, an escalation of verbal threats and physical violence, incarceration under military and administrative orders, and a lack of access to any channels for effective remedy. The submission provides details on specific violations of the ...
While the loss of the monarchy in Jordan would be a national disaster for that nation (A Kingdom Too Weak To Let Fail, March 7), it has even more serious implications for Israel and U.S. Mideast policy. Jordan has served as a buffer between the now satellite of Iran, namely Iraq, and Israel, preventing Iran from arming terrorist groups in the Palestinian territories.. The possibility of the overthrow of the monarchy by Jordans majority Palestinian population is sufficient reason for Israel to demand in any peace treaty with the Palestinian Authority that the Jordan Valley be retained to impede the flow ...
Despite the sacred security coordination between the PA and the Israeli security services, even in suppressing the growing protest movement in the West Bank that is calling for lifting the PAs unjust sanctions against the Palestinians in Gaza, Israels disregard for the protests is obvious. Israels officials, spokespeople and even media have ignored the remarkable popular movement, which some analysts expect to expand to reach all areas with a Palestinian presence across the world. Does this disregard reflect Israels underestimation of the importance and impact of this movement? Or does it mean Israel is taking it seriously, as a matter of national security, and subject to the consideration of military control and monitoring?. Israel has shown its exaggerated willingness to pursue any movement or anything seeming like a movement that could affect its security in the West Bank. Therefore it is highly unlikely that its official and unofficial disregard for the escalating protest movement is a ...
GAZA, (PIC)- Hamas Movement asked the Islamic Summit, held today in Cairo, to immediately provide the urgent protection to Al-Aqsa Mosque and the city of Jerusalem.. Hamas stressed in a statement on Wednesday on the need to support the Jerusalemites by taking practical and direct political steps condemning the occupation and its flagrant violations against the Palestinian people and the Islamic and Christian sanctities.. It called for making an Arab and Islamic strategy that supports the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in resisting and confronting the Israeli schemes until they regain their inalienable national rights.. The movement called for economically and politically boycotting Israel, to force it to halt its attacks on the Arab territories in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.. It also demanded the Organization of Islamic Cooperation leaders to regain the initiative and break the siege imposed on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip once and for all.. The Islamic resistance movement urged ...
