The term Antisocial Personality Disorder or ASPD for short, refers to a chronic mental condition involving a pattern of disregard for the rights of others including the violation of others rights. Deceit and manipulation are common features of this personality disorder.. Personality disorders refer to mental health conditions related to the way a person feels, thinks, perceives or relates to others. Antisocial personality disorder is a pretty difficult personality disorder as the behavior of people with this disorder might be irresponsible, manipulative, impulsive, reckless, and indifferent to others feelings. Most often this personality disorder will lead to criminal behavior.. In DSM 5 it is included in cluster B, called emotional, dramatic and erratic cluster. The disorders in cluster B are characterized by problems with emotional regulation and impulse control.. This cluster also includes disorders such as Histrionic Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Borderline ...
Disrupted reward processing is implicated in the etiology of disruptive behavior disorders (DBDs) and callous-unemotional traits. However, neuroimaging investigations of reward processing underlying these phenotypes remain sparse. The authors examined neural sensitivity in response to reward anticipation and receipt among youths with DBDs, with and without callous-unemotional traits.Data were obtained from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development Study (mean age=9.51 years [SD=0.50]; 49% female). Reward-related activation during the monetary incentive delay task was examined across 16 brain regions, including the amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), nucleus accumbens (NAcc), and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). Latent variable modeling was used to examine network-level coactivation. The following diagnostic groups were compared: typically developing youths (N=693) and youths with DBDs (N=995), subdivided into those with callous-unemotional traits (DBD+CU, N=198) and without ...
Richard Lynn, the doyen of research on national differences in intelligence, once published a book called The Global Bell Curve, in which he extended Murray and Herrnsteins classic analysis in The Bell Curve beyond the United States to demonstrate that the Negroid , Caucasoid , Mongoloid hierarchy in intelligence was a global, not just an American, pattern. However, in the course of that work, Lynn noted that while average IQ explained much of the difference in socioeconomic outcomes between racial groups in the US - crime, poverty, welfare, single motherhood - there was still a large differential even after adjusting for demographics and IQ. For example, an American Black of the same age and IQ as a White would be much more likely to commit a crime. Could this differential be explained by an additional factor of psychopathic personality?. This is the topic of Lynns new book, Race Differences in Psychopathic Personality, which was published last year.. Psychopathy is treated as a continuously ...

An overactive dopamine reward system in the brain may help explain why psychopaths pursue rewards without regard for consequences, according to new research published this week in the journal Nature Neuroscience. Previous research has found that individuals who suffer from antisocial personality disorder-often referred to as sociopathology or psychopathology, despite debate over whether these are distinct conditions-lack empathy and fear. Yet this new study, from researchers at Vanderbilt University examines what these individuals may have in excess. According to the study, led by Joshua Buckholtz, a graduate student in psychology at Vanderbilt, individuals with antisocial personality disorder traits show signs of dysfunction in dopamine reward systems-suggesting that, in psychopaths, the drive toward reward can overwhelm all else.. Prior to participating in two different experiments, study subjects completed personality tests to identify presence and severity of psychopathic ...
Inhalant use, inhalant-use disorders, and antisocial behavior: findings from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). (2010) The National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions, a multistage national survey of 43,093 U.S. residents, examined the lifetime prevalence of 20 childhood and adult antisocial behaviors in inhalant users with inhalant-use disorders (IUD+) and without IUDs (IUD-). Respondents with IUDs had pervasively elevated levels of antisocial conduct, including diverse forms of early-onset and interpersonally violent behavior. IUD+ and IUD- respondents were significantly younger and more likely to be unemployed, to be male, to have never married, and to report family and personal histories of alcohol and drug problems than inhalant nonusers. Family histories of alcohol problems and personal histories of drug problems were significantly more prevalent among IUD+ respondents, compared with IUD- respondents. In bivariate analyses, ...
Conduct disorder (CD) is a mental disorder diagnosed in childhood or adolescence that presents itself through a repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate norms are violated. These behaviors are often referred to as antisocial behaviors. It is often seen as the precursor to antisocial personality disorder, which is per definition not diagnosed until the individual is 18 years old. Conduct disorder is estimated to affect 51.1 million people globally as of 2013. One of the symptoms of conduct disorder is a lower level of fear. Research performed on the impact of toddlers exposed to fear and distress shows that negative emotionality (fear) predicts toddlers empathy-related response to distress. The findings support that if a caregiver is able to respond to infant cues, the toddler has a better ability to respond to fear and distress. If a child does not learn how to handle fear or distress the child will be more likely to lash out ...
Earlier studies suggested that dysfunction of the amygdala and/or orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) may underpin psychopathy. Nobody, however, has ever studied the white matter connections (such as the uncinate fasciculus (UF)) linking these structures in psychopaths. Therefore, we used in vivo diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) tractography to analyse the microstructural integrity of the UF in psychopaths (defined by a Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R) score of 25) with convictions that included attempted murder, manslaughter, multiple rape with strangulation and false imprisonment. We report significantly reduced fractional anisotropy (FA) ( ...
Studies have suggested a strong correlation between psychopathy scores and violence, and the PCL-R emphasizes features that are somewhat predictive of violent behavior. Researchers, however, have noted that psychopathy is dissociable from and not synonymous with violence.[2][33]. It has been suggested that psychopathy is associated with instrumental, also known as predatory, proactive, or cold blooded aggression, a form of aggression characterized by reduced emotion and conducted with a goal differing from but facilitated by the commission of harm.[34][35] One conclusion in this regard was made by a 2002 study of homicide offenders, which reported that the homicides committed by homicidal offenders with psychopathy were almost always (93.3%) primarily instrumental, significantly more than the proportion (48.4%) of those committed by non-psychopathic homicidal offenders, with the instrumentality of the homicide also correlated with the total PCL-R score of the offender as well as their scores ...
New Findings Spur Debate: Are Some Psychopaths Curable? Cynthia Fox A new study finds psychopaths do not lack empathy. They just possess the ability to turn it on and off-perhaps making some curable. Critics say psychopaths only lack a certain form of empathy. Their ability to understand it is part of what makes them so dangerous.
Mass antisemitism is one of the acute ills of our current world. It has broken out with a violence unparalleled in modern civilization. In some respects the mass antisemitism of our day has a different significance from that of the past. Currently, it is a reflection of the warp of our social order. The system of capitalist economy has broken down in many countries and is seriously threatened in our own; a diffuse process of social disorganization is taking place, which is unleashing powerful destructive forces. Antisemitism is one outstanding expression, among others, of this process of social disintegration. It is linked with war, with economic revolution and counter-revolution. It is one by-product of the fight between the old and the new; between the enlightened forces of progressive change and the reactionary powers of industrial, land owning and fascist groups, seeking desperately to preserve and fortify ruling privileges in a failing economic system. With this vast upheaval, there is a ...
Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder is often associated with other Axis I diagnoses. From 35% to 60% of referred ADHD children have oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and 25-50% will develop conduct disorder (CD). Of these, 15-25% progress to antisocial personality disorder in adulthood. Of all referred ADHD children, 25-40% have a concurrent anxiety disorder. As many as 50% of referred children with ADHD eventually develop a mood disorder-most commonly depression, diagnosed in adolescence. The diagnosis of bipolar disease in childhood increases the risk of concurrent label of ADHD because of the overlap of behaviors ...
Personality disorders (PDs) may be better understood in terms of dimensions of general personality functioning rather than as discrete categorical conditions. Personality-trait descriptions of PDs are robust across methods and settings, and PD assessments based on trait measures show good construct validity. The study reported here extends research showing that basic traits (e.g., impulsiveness, warmth, straightforwardness, modesty, and deliberation) can re-create the epidemiological characteristics associated with PDs. Specifically, we used normative changes in absolute trait levels to simulate age-related differences in the prevalence of psychopathy in a forensic setting. Results demonstrated that trait information predicts the rate of decline for psychopathy over the life span; discriminates the decline of psychopathy from that of a similar disorder, antisocial PD; and accurately predicts the differential decline of subfactors of psychopathy. These findings suggest that basic traits provide a ...
Despite decades of studies the etiology of alcoholism remains elusive. Recent work strongly supports genetic models, estimating the genetic contributions to risk at 32% - 73%. Further, studies have implicated inhibition as a key factor in alcoholism it is known to be comorbid with a number of disinhibitory disorders, including Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Tourette s Syndrome, and Antisocial Personality Disorder. However, work by Cloninger and colleagues suggests that two distinct forms of alcoholism exist, and that these forms have correspondingly distinct biological components.; To examine this relationship in more detail, this study employed a behavioral control model first proposed by Jeffrey Gray, differentiating activation (the preparation of a response) from inhibition (the cessation of a potential response prior to overt action). Pre-adolescent twins were examined in the context of this model utilizing the P300 Event-Related ...

The most recent type of civil commitment for dangerous sex offenders is found under the sexually violent predator laws. Forensic psychiatrists or psychologists must render an opinion as to whether the sex offender has a diagnosed mental disorder and, as such, represents a risk to public safety if released from custody into the community. Thus, expert testimony provided by these professionals has taken a central role in the commitment determinations. There is considerable debate as to what disorders predispose individuals to sexual recidivism and what the term likely signifies. In this article, the authors explore the debate in terms of whether Antisocial Personality Disorder is a qualifying diagnosed mental disorder for classification as a sexually violent predator and how a likely threshold of risk of sexual recidivism can be conceptualized.. ...
Genetic variation within HTR3B has been shown to influence vulnerability to bipolar disorder (R) and major depression (R).. 5-HT3B are expressed in several brain regions, including the amygdala, caudate, and hippocampus (R). The 5-HT3R might have a significant role in regulating reward (R).. 5-HT3R blockers reduce the number of active dopamine (DA) neurons in the addiction areas of the brain (VTA) (R, R2), whereas local application of a 5-HT3R activators stimulates somatodendritic release of DA (R). 5-HT3R antagonists block both alcohol-stimulated (R) and morphine-stimulated (R) dopamine release in the VTA.. Furthermore, alcohol potentiates the activation of 5-HT3R (R). The 5-HT3 receptor might be a causal factor in alcoholism (R). SNPs in this gene that predispose people to alcoholism and antisocial personality disorders are associated with lowerAlpha (8-13 Hz) EEG waves (R).. ...

The last two decades have seen tremendous growth in biological research on psychopathy, a mental disorder distinguished by traits including a lack of empathy or emotional response, egocentricity, impulsivity, and stimulation seeking. But how does a psychopaths brain work? What makes a psychopath? This book provides a concise, non-technical overview of the research in the areas of genetics, hormones, brain imaging, neuropsychology, environmental influences, and more, focusing on explaining what we currently know about the biological foundations for this disorder and offering insights into prediction, intervention, and prevention. It also offers a nuanced discussion of the ethical and legal implications associated with biological research on psychopathy. How much of this disorder is biologically based? Should offenders with psychopathic traits be punished for their crimes if we can show that biological factors contribute? The text clearly assesses the conclusions that can and cannot be drawn from
Psychopathy is a personality disorder signified by a pattern of lying, exploitation of others, recklessness, arrogance, sexual promiscuity, low self-control, and lack of empathy for others. Individuals with psychopathic traits appear to lack social emotions (love, empathy, guilt, and remorse). This means that they do not care about other people, feel remorse, or experience guilt in the same way that most of us do, although they may often feign these emotions. As a result, they survive by charming, conning, intimidating, or manipulating others. Those with psychopathic traits may appear normal, thus increasing their ability to effectively prey on others. Further, they are often good at mimicking emotion, where no real emotion exists, mirroring those around them. Yet they often reveal themselves through displays of actions that are inconsistent with their words. In addition, they are often unable to sustain the persona they wish others to believe over time, which eventually hampers their ability to ...

Personality disorders get recognized in the public eye with this measuring stick. In a mindful society mindfulness being legitimately relative to instruction, opportunity of thought, social improvement and so forth, psychopath test are taken care of all the more equitably. Somewhere else, they are gravely dealt with bringing about miseries for the influenced ones and the individuals near them making aggravations in families and social orders. The personality disorders that are being examined here are not the commonplace frenzy which typically gets arranged into psychosis, yet are the ones generally falling into the classification of anxiety mental troubles influencing conduct. Extensively, personality disorders can be considered as such when somebodys conduct, observation, conviction and so on begin influencing the routineness of the individuals life or of the individuals who are firmly associated with him/her.. In many social orders created, mindful or something else, personality disorders ...
Asthenic psychopathy is a personality disorder which is usually peculiar to women. The main symptoms are: impressionability, intolerance of mental work load, vulnerability.. Causes. Chronic diseases limiting activity of a sick child work towards development of dependent personality disorder. Keeping daily schedule, following the recommendations leads to resignation and habit to obey adults in everything.. Symptoms. The first symptoms of asthenic psychopathy can be noticed at early age. Such persons have also merits: emotional warmth, sense of duty, loyalty, keenness to other people, devotion to a family and team. These people are altruistic, aim to conform to public rules.. But the asthenic psychopathy has demerits: such people are lacking initiative, inspired, idealize object of affection, are devoid of independence and pushfulness.. Workability of asthenic is reduced, they cannot work continuously and nonresistant to any load. Any work hangs upon patients, they get tired quickly, feeling ...
Psychopathy, from psych (soul or mind) and pathy (suffering or disease), was coined by German psychiatrists in the 19th century and originally just meant what would today be called mental disorder, the study of which is still known as psychopathology. By the turn of the century psychopathic inferiority referred to the type of mental disorder that might now be termed personality disorder, along with a wide variety of other conditions now otherwise classified. Through the early 20th century this and other terms such as constitutional (inborn) psychopaths or psychopathic personalities, were used very broadly to cover anyone who violated legal or moral expectations or was considered inherently socially undesirable in some way. The term sociopathy was popularized from 1929/30 by an American psychologist, originally intended as an alternative term to indicate that the defining feature was a pervasive failure to adhere to societal norms in a way that could harm others. The term psychopathy also ...
Lynn (2002). Two later meta-analyses on Black/White differences in psychopathic personality came to the conclusion that Blacks did have higher levels of psychopathy than Whites but that this difference, while statistically significant, was not large enough to be practically significant (Skeem et al., 2004; McCoy and Edens, 2006). However, whether or not this difference is practically significant on its own tells us nothing about whether or not it is one among the many factors which contribute to racial crime disparities. Furthermore, all the samples used in these meta-analyses were either clinical or correctional in nature. Because of this, the reported mean differences in these studies may be significantly less than what would be found were the sample taken from the general population.. Racial Differences in Stress and Anxiety. Another feature shared by both Blacks and criminals is low levels of stress. Criminologists have explained the association between low levels of stress and crime by ...
Hello Murray and Richard Ran;. Thank you Murray for taking the time and energy to address my vast, imprecise questions in such a complete and methodical way.. I agree that it is vitally important to define ones terms when exploring and debating issues and perhaps that the definitions of various manifestations of psychopathy and the concept of ponerology are insufficient.. Yesterday in a discussion with a student I believe I vaguely defined a psychopath as one whose sense of empathy, and thus his conscience - meaning innate notions of right and wrong - are absent and replaced by an arbiter of personal interest.. In addition to the challenges and deficiencies of semantic definitions in this discussion, sadly I must say that I would be utterly incapable of participating in any debate employing mathmatical terms, algorithms or other algebraic representations. I fear this may prove an irreconcilable language barrier between us.. I will nonetheless attempt to respond to your kind answer.. You ...

I recently listened to The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson on audio. Its by a journalist who writes about his efforts to learn about the mental health industry and psychopaths in particular. It is narrated by the author and the Welsh accent took a little time to get used to but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Along the way he discusses a mysterious book called Being or Nothingness and his trek to find and meet its author who turns out to be eccentric but not likely a psychopath. The book is not the central theme but it is mentioned throughout and I found it intriguing. According to Wikipedia The Psychopath Test spent all of 2012 on the UK Best Seller list and 10 weeks on the NYT Best Seller List. I had not heard of this book and discovered it on a message board post discussing non fiction books that are a must read. That was also where I found the book Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. It was really good too ...

As I said, once weakness sets in, the handler will stop the TIs heart. Looking back on my life before the torture was made noticeable, I realize that I was targeted, due to my heart palpations were much like the way the handler stops my heart. Also, I was very healthy but developed arthritis only in my thumb joints and no where else. Afterward, the handler would go after my thumb joints almost exclusively sometimes as though thumb joint arthritis were a bonus injury for them to do. Also, the first joint of my right index finger is irradiated often. lesser sought after injuries are impotence, fibromyalgia, hip/knee joint arthritis and stroke are injuries sought after by the psychopaths. As headway toward the injury is made, the psychopath is then motivated to continue on with the injury until it is completely disabled. However, the psychopath will not do an injury if it can be diagnosed by a doctor as other than natural causes (in other words a common affliction). The Psychopaths are ...

Background: Quantitative genetic data from our group indicates that antisocial behaviour (AB) is strongly heritable when coupled with psychopathic, callous-unemotional (CU) personality traits. We have also demonstrated that the genetic influences for AB and CU overlap considerably. We conducted a genome-wide association scan that capitalises on these findings in an attempt to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that may increase risk for psychopathic tendencies (AB+/CU+). Methods: Teacher ratings at age 7 were used to screen 8374 twins with available DNA samples for individuals that were high vs. low on both AB and CU. In Stage 1, we screened for allele frequency differences in 642,432 autosomal single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using the Affymetrix 6.0 GeneChip with pooled DNA for high-scoring (AB+/CU+) versus low-scoring children (N = ∼300/group). In Stage 2, we tested the 3000 most strongly associated SNPs from Stage 1 for association in the same direction in a second sample of ...

The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of relationship with parents, emotion regulation, and callous-unemotional traits with Internet addiction in a community sample of adolescents. Self-report measures of relationship with parents (both mothers and fathers), emotion regulation (in its two dimensions: cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression), callous- unemotional traits (in its three dimensions: callousness, uncaring, and unemotional), and Internet addiction were completed by 743 adolescents aged 10 to 21 years. Results showed that a low perceived maternal availability, high cognitive reappraisal, and high callousness appeared to be predictors of Internet addiction. The implications of these findings are then discussed.
Borderline personality disorder often occurs with other illnesses. This is called co-morbidity or having co-occurring disorders. This can make it hard to diagnose, especially if symptoms of other illnesses overlap with the BPD symptoms.. According to the NIMH-funded National Comorbidity Survey Replication-the largest national study to date of mental disorders in U.S. adults-about 85 percent of people with BPD also suffer from another mental illness.5 Over half the BPD population suffers from Major Depressive Disorder. When depression and BPD co-occur, the depression often does not lift (even with medication), until the borderline personality disorder symptoms improve.. Women with BPD are more likely to have co-occurring disorders such as major depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse or eating disorders. In men, BPD is more likely to accompany disorders such as substance abuse or antisocial personality disorder.. Most co-morbidities are listed below, followed by the estimated percent of ...

Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is associated with suicide, violence, and risk-taking behavior and can slow response to first-line treatment for Axis I disorders. ASPD may be assessed infrequently because few efficient diagnostic tools are available. This study evaluated 2 promising self-report measures for assessing ASPD--the ASPD scale of the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4 (PDQ-4; S. E. Hyler, 1994) and the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; L. Morey, 1991, 2007)--as well as the ASPD module of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II (SCID-II; M. B. First, R. L. Spitzer, M. Gibbon, J. B. W. Williams, and L. S. Benjamin, 1997). The measures were administered to 1,345 offenders in court-mandated residential substance abuse treatment programs and prisons. PDQ-4 and PAI scores related strongly to SCID-II symptom counts (rs = .67 and .51, respectively), indicating these measures convey useful clinical information about the severity of offenders ASPD pathology. N2 - This study examined the concurrent and prospective associations between childrens ability to accurately recognize facial affect at age 8.5 and antisocial behavior at age 8.5 and 10.5 years in a sub sample of the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children cohort (5,396 children; 2,644, 49% males). All observed effects were small. It was found that at age 8.5 years, in contrast to nonantisocial children; antisocial children were less accurate at decoding happy and sad expressions when presented at low intensity. In addition, concurrent antisocial behavior was associated with misidentifying expressions of fear as expressions of sadness. In longitudinal analyses, children who misidentified fear as anger exhibited a decreased risk of antisocial behavior 2 years later. ...
The randomized clinical trial of DFST conducted in a homeless drop-in center unexpectedly found rates of Cluster A (paranoid, schizotypal, schizoid) and Cluster C (especially obsessive-compulsive) personality disorders that were 5 - 15 times (i.e., 40 - 75% prevalence rates) more common than typically found in mental health and addiction treatment programs. This was a new finding for the field as previous diagnostic research on the homeless had focused extensively on severe Axis I diagnoses (schizophrenic, mood, and substance use disorders) and ignored the Axis II diagnoses other than antisocial personality disorder. My team completed three additional diagnostic studies, all of which confirm the very high prevalence of these psychotic-spectrum personality disorders among the homeless. This has been the first research to conduct structured diagnostic interviews of the full range of personality disorders among homeless persons while controlling for the effects of other psychiatric disorders. This ...
THURSDAY, Aug. 27, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Young adults whove had attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) since childhood are at increased risk for road crashes, researchers say.. But there is no increased risk for those whose ADHD symptoms have decreased, according to the study published online recently in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.. For the study, the researchers analyzed data from 441 children with ADHD and 231 children without ADHD. They were followed from age 7 to 25 as part of a study that involved six centers in the United States and one in Canada.. The investigators looked at participants ADHD symptoms and driving records, as well as other health conditions. The other conditions included oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, antisocial personality disorder, and substance use during childhood and into adulthood.. Young adults with and without a history of ADHD got driving licenses at similar ages and at similar rates, the ...
Information about the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (HPA) in mental health is primitive yet promising and there is clear evidence that the system plays a role in the development and expression of VAB (Van Goozen et al. 2007). Further, its role is intimately linked with the history and quality of parenting the child has received and its specific patterns of disturbance may help us understand the hot versus cold expressions of VAB in young children. The following focuses on two key aspects of HPA functioning: the cortisol and serotonergic systems and their relationship with early parenting experiences.. Cortisol is a hormone involved in stress response modulation and is a rough marker of stress reactivity in humans and rats (as corticosteroids). In people who have suffered acute stress (trauma sufferers) and those who are highly reactive to challenges (high anxious people), cortisol levels are generally elevated. Of interest, low cortisol is a marker of people with high and chronic ...
Jill Lobbestael studied Mental Health, (1998-2002) and received her PhD in 2008 at Maastricht University on cognitive beliefs and childhood trauma in borderline and antisocial personality disorders. The same year, she was appointed assistant professor. In 2009, she was a visiting research fellow at the Psychology department at Harvard University (Boston, USA). She was awarded with a postdoc fellowship of the Niels Stensen foundation that allowed her to work at the Department of Social Psychology at Florida State University (Tallahassee, USA) from 2010 till 2011. Between 2009-2019, Lobbestael headed the scientific track of the post-doctoral Clinical Psychology track at Rino Zuid, and worked as a clincial therapist in the Personality Disorder team at Riagg Maastricht. Funded by NWO (Veni, Brain&Cognition), she set up research lines on the cognitive, biological, and neurological correlates of reactive and proactive aggression.. ...
A new study is proving that couples Buying Cannabis in Canada and do smoke are happy together. This might sound unbelievable and ridiculous but there is actual evidence that supports this statement.. Previous reports indicate that marijuana and alcohol tend to increase aggression. However, the most recent study by a cannabis expert revealed that smoking pot had positive impacts among married couples.. What experts say. Dr Jordan Tishler, a cannabis specialist who has worked for more than 20 years, said that he would have predicted exactly what the study found out. He said that cannabis would reduce incidences of couple violence.. What research says. The research was done in the past focused on cannabis users with past violent and psychiatric problems. For example, a study carried out in 2008 that involved 269 men with alcohol abuse and antisocial personality disorder systems found a correlation between cannabis use and violence.. However, this study included subjects who already had brushes with ...

In others, the opposite is true -- a cup of coffee seems to chase away the grumpiness of the morning.. Less well known, even by scientists, are caffeines mental effects in the longer term as a possible cause of psychological disorders. As Starbucks expanded into its 38th country (Brazil) on Wednesday, new research from a Virginia scientist shows prolonged use of caffeine -- the worlds most popular drug, used daily by four out of five people globally -- might literally drive you insane.. Five cups of brewed coffee per day, or the equivalent caffeine intake in tea or cola, made people more than twice as likely to exhibit adult antisocial personality disorder, and abuse of alcohol, cannabis or ...

More recently, there have been suggestions that specific regions of frontal cortex, rather than all of frontal cortex, may be implicated in psychopathy. To examine this issue, the authors presented 25 individuals with psychopathy and 30 comparison individuals with measures preferentially indexing the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC; object alternation task), dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC; spatial alternation task), and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC; number-Stroop reading and counting tasks). The individuals with psychopathy showed significant impairment on the ...
One of the first large prospective studies (1997, n = 807) controlled for initial levels of child antisocial behaviour and sex, family socioeconomic status and levels of emotional support and cognitive stimulation in the home.11 Even with these controls, physical punishment between the ages of six and nine years predicted higher levels of antisocial behaviour two years later. Subsequent prospective studies yielded similar results, whether they controlled for parental age, child age, race and family structure;12 poverty, child age, emotional support, cognitive stimulation, sex, race and the interactions among these variables;13 or other factors.14-17 These studies provide the strongest evidence available that physical punishment is a risk factor for child aggression and antisocial behaviour.. A landmark meta-analysis published in 200218 showed that of 27 studies on physical punishment and child aggression conducted up to that time (that met the criteria of the meta-analysis), all found a ...
Shoplifting costs American businesses an estimated $16 billion a year, according to the Better Business Bureau. Online Lawyer Source reports that shoplifting causes one-third of new businesses to fail and that adolescents account for about 25 percent of the value of shoplifted goods and about half of all shoplifting cases. Without costing the taxpayer another dime, there is a way to reduce significantly the incidence of adolescent shoplifting, and that is the subject of the latest edition of Pat Fagans Mapping America.
Natural News) One of the risks of delivering a pre-term or low-weight baby is neurological impairment. Often, these two conditions go hand-in-hand with children born before the desired 40-week mark having a low birth weight. Doctors note that children who weigh less than 2,500 grams, or 5.5 lbs. have an increased likelihood of developing an iron deficiency as they mature. This condition is strongly linked to impaired cognitive function, the symptoms of which include antisocial behavioral problems at school age. Nonetheless, a new study from the Umeå University in Sweden has concluded that iron supplementation may significantly reduce this condition.. Led by Staffan Berglund, the team observed 285 late pre-term and full-term babies who were born with low weight. These babies were randomly selected to receive either an iron supplement from the age of six weeks to six months or no supplement at all. The team conducted a series of tests when the children were around three and a half years old. The ...
Psychopaths can be found in prison for all sorts of violent and predatory crimes against individuals, including white-collar crime. University programs, academic societies, conferences, professional textbooks and manuals, all exist to get a handle on the problem and aid in prevention of these sorts of crimes. But what about their role in crimes against humanity? I havent been able to find one academic paper examining the role of psychopathy in politics, whether in so-called democratic systems or overt dictatorships. Just as researchers at first doubted the ability of psychopaths to succeed in business, and the problem remained unexamined, the problem of psychopathy in politics remains steadfastly ignored. Political scientists refuse to look at psychopathy, and psychopathy experts refuse to look at politics. The results of such blindness are evident in history - and the present - for anyone to see. Genocides, dictatorships, state-sanctioned torture, war without end, political assassinations, ...
We see only what we know (Kuhn, 1962), and I would immediately correct Kuhn by saying that people only see what they like to know in that particular moment. Because knowledge can be painful, confronting, or a heavy burden; many persons might be (episodically) close their eyes and/or mind for that knowledge. When some knowledge menaces to interfere with or to disturb our self-image and our comfortable, indulged and/or carefree life-style, many of us will try to neglect or suppress that knowledge. Persons with ASPD or PPD also see what they want to know, but in contrast with many normal persons they see a horrible reality where is no place for real love, compassion and consideration with others. Antisocial or psychopathic personalities will likely regard other persons love, compassion and consideration for others as fake or weakness. Nevertheless, the one-sided and very limited view on reality and the internal life of other people and associated indifferent and unempathic attitude of ...
Judith Reisman is the founder of the modern anti-Kinsey movement. She spent a week in Washington, D.C., recently, talking to people on Capitol Hill about opening a congressional investigation into Kinsey s work. The new film, she said, is deceptive and malevolently misleading, to say the least. A sixty-nine-year-old independent researcher with a Ph.D. in communications and a former songwriter for Captain Kangaroo, Reisman is the president of the Institute for Media Education and the lead author of Kinsey, Sex and Fraud and Kinsey: Crimes and Consequences. In one article, Reisman describes Kinsey as a scientific and moral fraud, a certifiable sexual psychopath as well as a sadomasochistic pornography addict and a sexually harassing bully. Though largely unknown outside social-conservative circles, Reisman has been influential within them. She has served as a consultant to the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services and was given seven hundred and thirty-four thousand dollars by ...

Questionnaires for self-completion by adolescents ask about the same 25 traits, though the wording is slightly different as it is in the first person (e.g. I often worry instead of Many worries, often seems worried). This self-report version is suitable for young people aged around 11-17, depending on their level of understanding and literacy. ...

Airbnb is using a new artificial intelligence-based tool that scans the internet to see if a guest has personality or mental issues, like narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy.
New functional brain scan research on psychopathy reveals strikingly distinct patterns of activation among psychopathic prisoners in response to seeing other people in painful situations, suggesting a neural basis for their lack of empathy.
Children tend to mimic the behavior and experiences they are exposed to and needed to be guided towards non-deviant and socially acceptable behaviors. Quite often, those factors overlap. Environment â problems with parenting that may involve a lack of supervision, inconsistent or harsh discipline, or abuse or neglect Carriers of the GABRA1, MAOA, SLC6A4, and AVPR1A genes are considered at higher risk for developing conduct disorder in later childhood. It is still not known what exactly causes conduct disorder, but it is a commonly held belief that it is a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychosocial factors. The lack of attention and resources for the childâ s needs at school is also serves as a contributing factor. Brain abnormalities: Neuroimaging studies suggest children with conduct disorder may have some functional abnormalities in certain regions of the brain. Conduct disorder refers to a group of behavioral and emotional problems characterized by a disregard for others. While ...

One sure sign of toxicity is when a person is chronically unwilling to see his or her own shortcomings and uses everything in their power to avoid being held accountable for them. This is known as projection. Projection is a defense mechanism used to displace responsibility of ones negative behavior and traits by attributing them to someone else. It ultimately acts as a digression that avoids ownership and accountability.. While we all engage in projection to some extent, according to Narcissistic Personality clinical expert Dr. Martinez-Lewi, the projections of a narcissist are often psychologically abusive. Rather than acknowledge their own flaws, imperfections and wrongdoings, malignant narcissists and sociopaths opt to dump their own traits on their unsuspecting suspects in a way that is painful and excessively cruel. Instead of admitting that self-improvement may be in order, they would prefer that their victims take responsibility for their behavior and feel ashamed of themselves. This is ...
Anyone could certainly compose a valid argument that Facebook is a key indicator of narcissism, but its hard to say that liking the musical works of Phil Collins more than Huey Lewis and the News is genuinely indicative of psychopathy
There are lots of reasons students cheat - lack of preparation, lack of academic aptitude, sheer laziness. Now a new study suggests another explanation: its coded in their personality.
This is a tool that can and should be used to serve in the course of justice, not to pervert it! Justice can only be served when the real truth is established. Law is about protecting society and sentencing of a convicted criminal should be very much secondary to that.
People high in empathy make use of their knowledge of their own emotions to interpret the emotions of others. Can you see then why people who rely on empathy in interactions with others completely miss sociopaths? An empathetic person correctly observes that sociopaths enjoy the company of others. He/she then self-references his/her own feelings of affection with regard to enjoying other people. I dont know that assuming everyone thinks the same way as you do is empathy. I always though of empathy more as reading others emotions and intentions. As someone with a past autism dx(and current ocd, but that is neither here nor there), I went through a few steps learning to interact with others: 1)(age 11 and under) Get treated poorly. Blame the other person without learning how to socialize or stand up for myself. Assume that if I want something, everyone else wants(or at least should want) it as well. Also assume that others can read my mind and know what I want without my having to communicate ...

Chance encounter number 3: So, the first two encounters, Greg meets James when he wasnt thinking about him. He just turned up. But, yet another time, Greg and I had both moved from Asheville. This was around the time of my first divorce, if I remember correctly, and I was heading back to Asheville to my ex-wifes house to collect some of my stuff, and Greg was along for the ride. We spent the night at a motel in Asheville. The next morning, were up around seven in the morning, and Greg says we should call James Rice and see if he wants to get together with us for a little while that morning. The hotel charges some outrageous amount for phone calls though, so we decide to go to the mall and use the payphones there. We get to the mall and, of course, every store in it is closed. We are the only car in the parking lot. The doors are open though, and we walk inside to look for the payphones. And, in the vast main hallway, at the far end, there is a lone figure walking toward us. We walk toward ...
Psychotherapy is incredible, like good philosophy, but it does have its limits. Not just at the severe mental health ends of the spectrum, but even more moderate functioning maladaptations that may be OK in a vacuum - if artists made money easily, say - but will lead to impairment in the world. & like it or not, there is a world here. I am hesitant with most medications in children, think the antidepresssants are garbage (some exceptions) and diverse as the classes are - the neurolepts are CAUSAL in psychotic illness. Most medications best be avoided, so long as there is enough function to participate in study/work, social, personal exploration ect. Kids can be given more of a free reign. Environment is a drug, as much as the internal environment (meditation/cognition) is. And environment experiments are at least possible with children. However in later life, when control over the environment is less complete and control over the internal can not feed you or keep the heat on - I think certain ...
6) She told neighbors that if they did (financial planning) business with me, that I would steal their personal identity information and purchase homes around the U.S with their credit.. Incredibly, there were a few neighbors and friends that actually believed her story. As absurd as it sounds and contrary to everything they knew about me for 15+ years - I learned that there are friends in this world that prefer dirt to the truth. To say she cleaved our small community would be an understatement.. After 6 months of this, and many letters from my attorneys asking that she cease and desisit spreading lies - we had to haul her back into court. Once again, the judge took no real action. He issued another restraining order which said (in part): Sherri shall stop spreading lies about Ken. That is all. He never did seem to care and had an attitude of disdain. She also tore that restraining order to shreds in the parking lot of the courthouse and said to me and my attorney, F*** you.. Remember, ...
I dimly understand how social reciprocation works and they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, so the point Im trying to make is I tried too hard to make that work to my advantage, because I felt no one was caring how things affected me, because I thought I was supposed to get specific things I wanted if I worked hard and things. To me inflicting pain in itself - though I can do that, and when I do, I find it pleasurable too - this is not what its about. To be frank, I couldnt care less if people are happy or unhappy, what matters and what decides my line of action is what serves the purpose of what Im working on to achieve at the moment. And it just seems to me that people who are happy are generally also much more likely to comply and act according to my wishes. Of course, initially it may be necessary to instigate a certain amount of pain in order to create the basic anxiety related to the idea of not meeting my wishes, to not do what I want the person to do. But once the knowledge among those around me is applied and ingrained so that they are aware that pain MIGHT become reality IF they do not comply, then there is usually no longer any good reason to inflict it. On the contrary, I find that then it is a much more productive idea to make people happy, to make them see and feel that happy comes with being ...

In a country in which much of human culture has been rendered into machines for the manufacture of money, psychopaths are the ideal leaders. They are very focused. They are outcome oriented. They are frequently charming, and usually very bright and able. They can lay off thousands of people, or deny people health care, or have them waterboarded, and it does not disturb their sleep. They can be impressively confident. Psychopaths can be dynamic leaders of enterprises, but are handicapped by their lack of feelings for relationships. They may be accomplished captains of industry, or senators, or surgeons, but their families are frequently abused and miserable. Most psychotherapists have seen the wives or husband or children of such accomplished people. ...
