The goal of NP 104 Veterinary, Medical and Urban Entomology research program is to conduct fundamental, applied and translational research under these components to mitigate the impact of arthropods such as ticks, mosquitoes, sand flies, stable flies, and biting midges. Non-biting flies such as house flies, filth flies, and New World screwworms are also the targets of this research effort as are invasive ants. A collaborative study with the USDA has been initiated to study the infectivity offoot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) for bovine and swine embryos. During the year, 189 bovine embryos were exposed to FMDV and none were adversely affected, nor did the virus attach to or infect any of the embryos. These results support the hypothesis that embryo transfer may be a useful disease control procedure. Studies are continuing with other viral agents such as akabani, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, swine vesicular disease, African swine fever, pseudorabies and bluetongue. Royce Ann Collins, College of Education associate professor of adult learning and leadership, was the lead author of a practice report that addressed the COVID-19 response by 16 of the Kansas City metro areas higher education institutions. The report offered four key recommendations for future practices with 13 actionable items. Reaction to Crisis: Adult Higher Educations Lessons Learned is the culmination of 18 focus groups conducted from August to October 2020 - representing the voices of 82 faculty, staff and administrators and 61 adult learners. NICARAGUA. 1. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has continued to observe carefully the evolution of human rights in Nicaragua. In addition to the special report concerned with that country in 1981, the Report on the Situation of Human Rights of a Sector of the Nicaraguan Population of Miskito Origin was also prepared in this period. The IACHR also considered the status of human rights in Nicaragua in its Annual Reports of 1981-1982 and 1982-1983. In these reports, the Commission referred specifically to observance of the right to life, to freedom of expression, to personal freedom and security, to due process, to religious freedom and to political rights. The object of this report is to update the Commission s information on these matters.. 2. The 2012 ERA-EDTA Registry Annual Report contains both good news and bad news. On the bright side, the 2-year survival of patients starting renal replacement therapy (RRT) for chronic kidney disease (CKD), on dialysis or receiving a living-related kidney transplantation, has progressively increased to 82.2, 79.7 and 98.3%, respectively, whereas for cadaveric kidney transplantation it remains stable (96.0-96.1%). On the dark side, inequalities persist between European citizens in access to renal transplantation and in incidence and prevalence of RRT. Living in Greece, Belgium (French- or Dutch-speaking) or Portugal (the GBP countries) is associated with higher chances of initiating RRT than living in other European countries. The adjusted RRT incidence for GBP countries was 188, 201-174 and 220* (* unadjusted) pmp in 2012, respectively (versus 122, 114 and 97 pmp in the Netherlands or two Spanish regions bordering Portugal).
