The present study reports densities (ρ), viscosities (η) and ultrasonic speeds (U) of pure dioxane (DOX), anisole (ANS), toluene (TOL) and ethylbenzene (ETB) and their binary liquid mixtures over the entire composition range at 293, 298, 303, 308 and 313 K. From the experimental data excess molar volume (VmE), excess intermolecular free length (LfE), excess adiabatic compressibility (βE) and excess acoustic impedance (ZE) have been computed. The excess values were correlated using Redlitch-Kister polynomial equation to obtain their coefficients and standard deviations (σ). With increase in temperature, the binary mixture of DOX+ANS shows larger deviations in βE, LfE and smaller deviations in ZE, VmE. These results suggest that ANS has strong molecular interactions with DOX than ETB and TOL.

Crude extracts of the cowpea varieties were analyzed for antioxidant activity using the Thiobarbituric Acid (TBA) assay. The seed coat extracts were added sepa-rately to 200 g of minced broiler meat sample at the rate of 0.05% of the weight of the meat and their effect compared to that of the synthetic antioxidant, butylated hydroxyl anisole (BHA) added to the meat at the rate of 0.05%. In order to elucidate the mechanism of the anticarcinogenic action, the effects of BHA on benzo(a)pyrene (BP) metabolism were studied with lung microsomes from female mice. BHA treatment (0.5% in the diet for 7 days) inhibited BP metabolism and altered the ratios among different metabolites as analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Detecting this anomaly is crucial to the cork granulate stopper industry, since it is associated with the presence of 2.4.6-Trichloroanisole (TCA), this compound having been identified as the main agent responsible for cork off-flavours. Samples for the NIRS spectra were prepared by mixing in different proportions cork granulate with high visual quality and cork granulate with yellow stain, obtaining 120 samples with 8 different percentages of yellow stain (0, 5, 10, 15, 25, 35, 50 and 100%). Two spectra per sample were collected using a Bruker MPA spectrophotometer and the partial least squares (PLS) method was used to obtain numerous equations.
