One thing thats been bothering me is how the mc campaigners seem to focus almost exclusively on animal rights over people rights in the Third World. For example, their picketing of mcDonalds sights seems focused exclusively or gives priority to animal rights. It seems silly and unethical to me to give this kind of priority to animal rights over native peoples rights.. I dont think it helps the campaign when its seen as an animal rights issue. As an animal rights issue, the anti-McD campaign will continue to gain only a small following. People, myself included, will think, why are they going after a restaurant for its treatment of animals ...
A network promoting veganism and animal rights hopes to garner support this semester.. Students and faculty recently have been discussing, planning and promoting a new Main Campus animal rights organization, focused on vegan outreach, which if submitted by Feb. 29, could maintain recognized status for the current semester.. The Temple Vegan Action Network is a non-violent initiative to educate the Temple community about veganism, an act of abstaining from any use of animal products.. Assistant English professor Dr. Dan Featherston, who teaches courses involving animal relations, said he met a lot of students [and] colleagues who are interested in [veganism], and sometimes it comes not just from a personal, dietary interest in living a healthier life personally, but also are concerned about the environment or concerned about animal welfare and rights.. Similar to Promoters of Animal Welfare, Featherston hopes TVAN will educate its members on animals rights issues pertaining to on and off-campus ...
Animal rights is the position that animals should not be exploited. Animal rights people believe that animals should not be used for food, clothing, entertainment, medical research, or product testing.
In the past decade, philosopher Bernard Rollin points out, we have witnessed a major revolution in social concern with animal welfare and the moral status of animals. Adopting the stance of a moderate, Harold Guither attempts to provide an unbiased examination of the paths and goals of the members of the animal rights movement and of its detractors. Given the level of confusion, suspicion, misunderstanding, and mistrust between the two sides, Guither admits the difficulty in locating, much less staying in, the middle of the road. The philosophical conflict, however, is fairly clear: those who resist reform, fearing that radical change in the treatment of animals will infringe on their business and property rights, versus the new activists who espouse a different set of moral and ethical obligations toward animals. From his position as a moderate, Guither presents a brief history of animal protection and the emergence of animal rights, describes the scope of the movement, and identifies major players
If you listen to the animal rights writers, you quickly realize that their goal is a homogenized globalized culture based on a Western ethical paradigm and a human separation from nature. Animal rights philosophy could be considered a disease of civilization. ~ Melissa McEwen (April 16, 2010)
We are occasionally asked why the Animal Rights Coalition is a multi-issue organization, instead of working solely on improving the lives of farmed animals.. Our mission states that ARC is dedicated to ending the suffering, abuse, and exploitation of non-human animals through information, education, and advocacy. One of the most important things about ARC is the consistency of our message and actions. ARC started out as, and has firmly remained, an abolitionist animal rights organization - which means that we challenge the dominant conversation that humans have about our relationships with other species. Most people view other animals as commodities for humans to use and own, and we view other animals as persons who are here for their own reasons and deserving of personal and bodily integrity.. So, while some may consider us a multi-issue organization, the reality is that there is only one issue - animal liberation - and no matter what subject were talking about, were having essentially ...

PITTSBURGH -- A group of angry animal rights activists confronted a Troy Hill man Thursday as he appeared in court on animal cruelty charges.
Builsa South MP Clement Apaak has described as moot, the reason of animal cruelty cited by international animal rights activist Natasha Choolun for which she has petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to ban dog and cat meat in Ghana.
ANIMAL rights activists have called on the authorities to investigate Loro Parque in Tenerife over the mistreatment of its orca whales.. PETA based the accusations on pictures taken in March of orcas with scars that appeared to come from rakes, large quantities of mucus in their eyes and broken teeth.. The park houses six orcas, four on loan from Americas SeaWorld, one born in captivity and one given over by Dutch authorities.. PETA is concerned that the other orcas have attacked Morgan, the smallest whale born in captivity, and that the park is not sufficiently protecting the animals from aggressive behaviour developed in captivity.. ...

In order to prevent cruelty to animals, many animal rights activists promote vegetarianism or even veganism. Their claim is that human beings can live healthy lives without eating meat. They also believe that humans have no right to treat animals as an inferior species. For those considering transitioning slowly to vegetarianism or just cutting down on meat, it is best to refrain from consumption of chicken and eggs. Since chickens are such small animals, the average meat-eater is responsible for the death of many more animals. Switching to a vegetarian diet can save approximately 100 animals a year. Others believe that animal consumption is the natural order of things, but that the animals should be treated as humanely as possible during their lives and at the slaughterhouse. The EU, for instance, regulates minimum standards for the farm, transport and slaughterhouse. It has published a Fact Sheet detailing its support for animal welfare. In the UK, the RSPCA runs a farm assurance and food ...

This is the first time the class is being offered at Mason.. Taught by Paul Gorski, an assistant professor of integrated studies in New Century College, the class touches on the testing of products on animals, the use of animals in entertainment, veganism, and animal fighting, as well as how animals are treated at large factory farms.. I dont see my role as preparing activists, says Gorski, who is teaching the class as a section of NCLC 395 Special Topics in ...

Were heartbroken to learn that a member of Seattles vegan community has killed himself.. Of course, he belonged to many communities - family, friends, people who saw him regularly but were acquaintances - and that means a lot of very painful grieving is happening now. Our love and wishes for healing go out to everyone whose lives he touched and who is hurting.. Its also a good time to remember that suicide is something we can and should talk about - that expressing whats in our hearts at a time like this can help us heal and eventually motivate us to find out more about suicides warning signs and what we can do about them.. As Veda Stram, an animal rights activist from Camano Island, wrote when she learned of this recent death, My only relationship with him was as a customer at Vegan Haven, where I volunteer one day a week. I probably saw him each and every time I volunteered….. My writing this is to BEG, ENCOURAGE, URGE anyone in whatever we call our vegan community to let us know if ...

Medical ethics, as defined by Wikipedia.org, is the discipline of evaluating the merits, risks and social concerns of activities in the medical field. Medical ethics provide suggestions and principles that doctors and other healthcare professionals should take into consideration while treating patients. These principles include the Hippocratic Oath of do no harm; the patient s right to dignity, truthfulness and honesty; acting in the best interest of the patient; justice with regard to treatment and the patient s right to choose or refuse treatment (Wikipedia). These principles do not provide answers to doctors and healthcare professionals with regard to actual cases; they act as a guide in decision-making. Many doctors, scientists and healthcare professionals look to medical ethics for guidance in making life and death decisions. Medical ethics also extends itself to animals and animal rights. Acting in the best interests of animals is important since they have provided and continue to provide ...

Posted on 01/25/2005 2:18:45 AM PST by nickcarraway. Twelve years ago, the Liberal British MP Lord Alton quit the House of Commons largely because his party supported abortion on demand, but opposed the use of goldfish as fairground prizes. The depravity of the situation was too much even for a liberal parliamentarian. The lord resigned forthwith. The goldfish controversy was back the other week as the ruling Labour Party considered a ban on animals as competition prizes. After an intense debate that must have resembled a Monty Python skit, ministers decided that with elections coming up they would look very silly indeed if they pressed for the goldfish ban. Similarly the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals appeared rather silly after it recently lost its appeal to halt a California Milk Producers Advisory Boards Happy Cows advertising campaign. PETA objected to the campaigns tag line Great Cheese comes from Happy Cows. Happy Cows come from California. PETA ...

Dear Rick Hansen:. I hope that during your next 25 years of raising money for spinal cord research (SCR) we will see the end of inhumane, scientifically fallacious spinal cord experiments on animals. It was 25 years ago when Lifeforce, a Vancouver based ecology and animal rights organization, gave you extensive data about the failure of animal models but you went on to fund animal experiments. Your Boards have had many vivisectors directing your funding priorities. You have raised millions of dollars for SCR as the Man in Motion. Your dream for a cure is a nightmare for animals.. It is time to stop the barbaric experiments that have been repeated for over 50 years. New technologies, clinical/ epidemiological studies permit humane studies with humans. That is how breakthroughs are discovered!. Your money raised for SCR includes experiments on animals in which they are intentionally paralysed and subjected to abusive tests. Numerous doctors agree that vivisection retards scientific progress ...
Tom Regan is Professor of philosophy at North Carolina State University and a leading animal rights advocate. His best known work is in the form of his book The Case for Animal Rights (1983).. Regans position on animal rights and how it differs from that of Singers.. Regan disagrees with Singers utilitarian program for animal liberation, for he rejects utilitarianism as lacking a notion of intrinsic worth. According to Regan, animals and humans all have equal intrinsic value on which their right to life and concern are based. This is precisely where Regan and Singer philosophically differ as Singer does not take into account this intrinsic value that Regan argues for; that utilitarianism lacks.. Regan calls for the total abolition of the use of animals in science, the total dissolution of the commercial animal agriculture system, and the total elimination of commercial and sport hunting and trapping. Regan writes, The fundamental wrong is the system that allows us to view animals as our ...

You guys dont understand what this is all about. Most of those videos and photos were deliberate lies, staged by people who are not interested in a transition to healthier meat - they are interested in preventing anyone from eating any meat, period. They are animal rights extremists. The central purpose of the HSUS and the other animal rights organizations is to take all our pets and livestock away from us and prevent us from eating meat. They believe in Animal Rights, a vegan political philosophy that says that any human interference whatsoever in any animals life, whether humane or not, is exploitation. They literally believe that animals are better off dead than owned or taken care of by any humans whatsoever, for any purpose, ever. The videotapers got those farm jobs specifically for the purpose of staging fake videos of things that dont usually happen at the farms, so they took carefully edited videos, or while the boss was away for a few hours or days they set up ugly scenes or paid ...

This caricaturing of science is confusing and misleading. Breakthrough as scientists create first drug to halt Alzheimers disease, breathlessly reads one. Betting study used monkey brains, cries another, this one fuelled by the activities of animal rights campaigners. Though not alone, animal research is a particularly frequent victim of the black box effect. This is at least partly due to scientists reluctance to speak about animal research, ironically stemming from anxiety about misrepresentation of their work, or even possible retaliation from animal rights activists.. Science is not a string of groundbreaking discoveries communicated through press releases, tweets, and hurried mass emails. Rather, it is incremental, nuanced, and often contradictory. It is defined as much by its methods and their limitations as it is by its breakthroughs. For science communication to work, it has to embrace this complexity, bringing the scientific method, and its baggage, to the foreground.. In ...
Animal welfare groups in Britain say they are outraged by a school fundraising contest that involves placing ferrets down the trousers of competitors.
A slaughterhouse or abattoir /ˈæbətwɑːr/ ( listen) is a facility where animals are slaughtered for consumption as food. Slaughterhouses supply meat which then becomes the responsibility of the packaging department. Slaughterhouses that process meat not intended for human consumption are sometimes referred to as knackers yards or knackeries, used for animals that are not fit for consumption or can no longer work on a farm such as work horses that can no longer work. Slaughtering animals on a large scale poses significant logistical problems, animal welfare problems, public health requirements, and environmental problems. Due to public aversion in many cultures, determining where to build slaughterhouses is also troubling. Animal welfare and animal rights groups frequently raise concerns about the methods of transport, preparation, herding, and killing within some slaughterhouses under the example of animal rights activists such as Howard Lyman and Ric OBarry. Until modern times, the ...
Steven Wise apparently has a new book out, Though the Heavens May Fall. The book is ostensibly about an 18th century British court case that helped turn the tide against slavery in that country, and of course you can probably imagine the sort of lesson that Wise wants us to take from that (if you cant, its that such a similar case could turn the tide toward animal rights).. As animal rights activists go, Wise is relatively harmless. He has a complex model - widely criticized by other activists - that would grant certain species legal rights based upon how likely they are to have the sort of sense of self that human beings have. Its overly complex and unworkable in this writers opinion, but at least Wise doesnt run around naked or make statements that killing those he disagrees with is not such a bad idea.. But he also used an argument that is simply stupid, unconvincing, and a bit out-of-character given Wises legalists arguments. He gave a speech at the University of Michigan in February in ...
Ms. Chaitowitzs story is very sad. I do not know the presentation of her breast cancer; so I do not know how much additional benefit she would have derived from her chemotherapy in terms of increasing her odds of survival, had she not suffered her complication; it could vary from a few percent absolute benefit to much more. However, in general, the benefits of chemotherapy outweigh the risks, even in early stage breast cancer, where the benefits are relatively small on an absolute scale. Unfortunately, individual patients are not statistics. For example, when I counsel patients on the risk of a wound infection after surgery, I will often say something like, The risk is around 2%, but if it happens to you its 100%, and you wont be reassured that you are in a small minority of patients. The same applies to Ms. Chaitowitzs case, but even more dramatically. Myelodysplastic syndrome is a known, albeit uncommon, complication of chemotherapy and radiation (around 0.3-0.7% risk in most recent ...
On Monday night The Guggenheim announced it will be pulling three artworks from its upcoming exhibition Art and China after 1989: Theatre of the World. The news was announced after the pieces came under fire last week when activists labeled them as instances of unmistakable cruelty against animals in the the name of art. This statement was delivered via a petition on change.org which currently has the support of nearly 750,000 people.. The artworks concerned, previewed on The New York Times, featured two videos of live animals and a sculpture that included live insects and lizards. In one of the videos, artists Peng Yu and Sun Yuan tether four pairs of American pit bulls to eight wooden treadmills for a live exhibit. The dogs are riled up and attempt to attack each other but are held back by harnesses causing them to grow increasingly weary. Although these works have been exhibited in museums in Asia, Europe, and the United States, the Guggenheim regrets that explicit and repeated threats of ...

I grew up in the era of the TV news, newspapers (yes, the old school printed copies), Cartoon Network and dial-up Internet…. Nicely nostalgic images I will relate to the next generation at some point while trying to convince them of the legacy of me and my peers.. But to be honest, I am not exactly proud of all trends we as millennials are setting.. You either love us or hate us (or are us). We are an overly confident, over-consuming generation, who assume we are entitled to everything (so were told.). Personally, Ive never seen my parents or grandparents getting aggressive with people for disagreeing with their views, but we, millennials, have no problem doing it.. Youve got to understand us. We are the generation that grew up during the recession, entered a struggling job market and on top of everything have to pay off record amounts of student debt.. As a result some of us have become easily influenced by the style of life rather than the stuff of life.. For example- veganism. While I ...

Mad Cowboy Essay, Research Paper ?Even if animal testing produced the cure for Aids, we?d be against it? This rhetoric notion was stated by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and summarizes the fanatical doctrine animal rights activists preach to their followings. These activists preach a doctrine of hate calling for the end of all meat eating, wearing of fur, use of animals in experiments regardless if they are beneficial or not, and even push for the end of all pets as we know of it.

This essay examines the current trend of rustling and transporting cattle from throughout India for trade at the cattle corridors that lie along the border between Indias West Bengal and Bangladesh. An analysis of historical and cultural factors seeks to explain how this trade possibly began and increased. These motivators include the effects of the Mad Cow disease outbreak in the 1980s on international beef trade and the many economic uses for bovines and their by-products in Bangladesh. This research also looks at cattle-specific legislation in India that prohibits many of the practices employed by smugglers and details some possible examples of this process as cited from newspaper reports varying from Indian and British sources to other international newspapers. Finally, the efforts of various animal rights and Hindu activists are noted. Themes of the work encompass the distinct religious contrasts between Hinduism and Islam, local and global demand for goods derived from cattle, and how these
The Sinhala Ravaya marchers arrived in Colombo on Wednesday morning but despite warnings issued by police officers to meat vendors in Bambalapitiya and Colpetty, no incidents targeting these shops were reported in the capital. The Kataragama-Colombo foot march calling for a state enforced ban on cattle-slaughter that is in truth a poorly disguised attempt to target the minority Muslim community, ended at the door of Temple Trees, where the groups leading monks met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa last afternoon.. According to the monks who spoke to the media following their meeting, President Rajapaksa had promised them that legislation banning the killing of cattle would be introduced to the country within two months. Needless to say, these campaigns have the regimes tacit support, with many senior members of the administration being ardent vegetarians and openly expressing an abhorrence of the slaughter of cattle for consumption.. While animal rights activists might rejoice at their causes ...

In Australia, animal rights advocates say the conditions of the voyage amount to extreme cruelty to the animals. If such measures had been taken when recommended, those poor animals would be out of their misery by now -- instead, they are still trapped on that death ship in extreme temperatures, extreme humidity and surrounded by a sea of their own excrement. In Jidda, Saudi Arabia refused to accept the animals Aug. 22 after a government inspector claimed that too many had scabby mouth, a virus that makes the sheep less attractive but doesnt affect the quality of their meat. [...] the Australian government and animal activists reject that theory, suggesting instead that the debacle was the result of a Saudi business deal gone awry. According to Wirth, other Saudis wanted to scuttle the deal because they could get a better price from Somalia and Ethiopia. In Iraq, plans for British troops to distribute the sheep fell apart when authorities concluded that the occupation force didnt have the
Yes, it was an accident: an accident that would not have happened if those responsible had shown a little forethought and respect for the animal -- not to mention concern for the safety of the people downtown (camels can be absolutely vicious, and those long legs can kick a long way.) I have lived on farms for most of my life and am no animal rights activist, but it burns me up to see people treating an animal so callously, and then minimizing it by claiming it was an accident -- as though the camel had been struck by lightning instead of hurt because it was taken into a place it did not belong, by people who should have known better, for no better reason than the entertainment of a bunch of effete hipster fools. ...
Marius the giraffe is pictured in Copenhagen Zoo February 7, 2014. The Copenhagen Zoo went ahead with a plan to shoot and dismember a healthy giraffe on Sunday and feed the 18-month-old animals carcass to lions - an action the zoo said was in line with anti-inbreeding rules meant to ensure a healthy giraffe population. The giraffe, named Marius, was shot in the head and then cut apart in view of children, according to a video of the incident released by the Denmark-based production company Localize. The zoos plans had sparked an outcry from animal rights activists. A British zoo had offered to give Marius a home and even started an online petition to save the giraffe, gathering more than 25,000 signatures. Picture taken February 7, 2014. With Rockets owner Leslie Alexander announcing his first investment in China, a lease in the World City of Beijing development, and an advertising sponsorship with World City in Toyota Center, he was not the first member of the organization benefiting from the Yao Ming connection. Chuck Hayes (Li Ning) and Shane Battier (Peak) endorse Chinese basketball shoes. World City is the fifth company (of 22) with camera visible signage in Toyota Center. Battier had a 72-hour visit to Beijing before training camp and has a commercial that runs in China with a tour planned for next summer. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander laughed at the reports that his ex-wife Nanci Alexander, an avid animal rights activist, played a part in the NBA move to a synthetic basketball. Tracy McGradys concussion on Saturday might have knocked out some of his memory, but it brought back unhappy memories for Rockets forward Shane Battier. On Wednesday, the Rockets set or matched their season highs for points (118), first-quarter
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - Bio Corp., an Alexandria company that provides specimens for dissection in classrooms, was charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty after a hidden-camera video was produced by the animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.. The misdemeanor charges, filed by the Alexandria City Attorneys Office on Dec. 29, accuse the company of drowning five pigeons and injecting 20 live crayfish with latex dye in order to kill them. Under state law, its a crime to willfully instigate or in any way further any act of cruelty to any animal or animals.. PETA wanted to investigate how animal specimens are prepared and it focused on Bio Corp. when a job opened up there. A PETA activist landed the job and shot the video.. Each of the 25 charges is punishable by up to 90 days behind bars and a fine of up to $1,000.. Ben Hedstrom, owner of the company, said hes being unfairly singled out.. The city didnt have to prosecute this, he said. Its a one-sided ...
The carcasses of 40 tiger cubs were found at Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua, a Buddhist site widely known as the Tiger Temple, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Credit Dario Pignatelli BANGKOK - The Thai wildlife authorities found 40 dead tiger cubs in a freezer on Wednesday at the Tiger Temple, a controversial tourist attraction in western Thailand, and were investigating whether the carcasses were evidence of the temples involvement in the illegal wildlife trade.. The discovery came as Thai wildlife rangers were removing adult tigers from the temple in an effort to shut down the attraction after receiving complaints that the temple was trafficking in endangered species.. The temple, a Buddhist monastery that offered paying tourists close contact with tigers, has long been accused by conservationists and animal rights activists of exploiting and abusing the animals, accusations the temple has denied.. Wildlife officials said that only one of the dead cubs found on Wednesday had been reported to the government ...
On one covert video, farm workers illegally burn the ankles of Tennessee walking horses with chemicals. Another captures workers in Wyoming punching and kicking pigs and flinging piglets into the air. And at one of the countrys largest egg suppliers, a video shows hens caged alongside rotting bird corpses, while workers burn and snap off the beaks of young chicks.. Each video - all shot in the last two years by undercover animal rights activists - drew a swift response: Federal prosecutors in Tennessee charged the horse trainer and other workers, who have pleaded guilty, with violating the Horse Protection Act. Local authorities in Wyoming charged nine farm employees with cruelty to animals. And the egg supplier, which operates in Iowa and other states, lost one of its biggest customers, McDonalds, which said the video played a part in its decision.. But a dozen or so state legislatures have had a different reaction: They proposed or enacted bills that would make it illegal to covertly ...
A sporadic offering of the hilarity and clumsiness that is my wonderful life. Im a Proud Grateful Drunk, sober since October 4, 2001. I havent eaten anything with a face in 21 years - but Im not a dick about it. I married the love of my life when after a long search we found each other - again. I am an animal rights activist and tend to be a Man Repeller. Coffee is now the ONLY VICE I HAVE LEFT. No alcohol and doing my best to stay quit with the smokes. These fucking babies better be worth it. God Dammit. The blog is called I want a Dumpster baby because my husband and I tried to have a baby and didnt have much luck. Lets just say its been a challenge. I love rescue animals and I would love a rescue baby the same way. Also, its way cheaper to find a dumpster baby than adoption and in-vitro. So its a joke, but really not at all. UPDATE - We have had success with in-vitro and had our first babies - a boy and a girl - TWINS - on January 7, 2013! So Exciting! We call them Hall & Oates, ...
Wow!!!!! What a biased, misleading, self serving statement this is!!!!! Mistake, or carefully worded to avoid using the word zoo? Lets point all the fingers in one direction, shall we. Lets suck up to the animal rights activist faction, without putting our zoo industry in focus. When was the last time an elephant was abandoned in a circus? How many elephants are currently kept as pets? What Water for Elephants are you talking about in the movie industry? We want to be able to take in elephants that come from not-as-good situations, like the circus, pets, the movie industry, but not the zoos, because everything is cool there, and you dont need to look in that direction. Now please endorse us, okay. I dont think Pat Derby died, or Carol Buckley moved to another country. I think they teamed up, and moved operations to Florida.............. ...

I like your use of the phrase low-key anti-zoo because I feel like it sums up the feelings of a vast majority of people sort of 40 and under (although my favorite is I dont believe in zoos. Its a zoo, not fucking Narnia). I think the zoos are bad mentality has become part of our cultural consciousness, something that we absorb as truth in our childhood or adolescence and then never question as adults who are capable of informing our own opinions. I dont blame people for having low-key anti-zoo feelings, though. Zoos in America were terrible places until not too long ago, and I feel like the Animal Rights movement did great things in bringing animal welfare into the public eye. Unfortunately, I feel like the majority of people who tell me they dont believe in zoos generally dont know why they have those feelings. They can point to one or two broader topics like, wild animals should be wild or animals arent meant to be entertainment, but they usually cant clarify beyond those ...

Bonnie Steinbock (born 1947) is a professor emerita of philosophy at the University at Albany and a specialist in bioethics who has written on topics such as abortion, end of life issues, and (in one article) animal rights. Questions from her examinations have appeared in the Education Life section of the New York Times. Steinbock received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a fellow of the Hastings Center, an independent bioethics research institution. She now lives in Oakland, CA, with her husband, Paul Menzel. Bonnie Steinbock is the author of Life Before Birth, published by Oxford University Press in 1992. As stated in the subtitle, the book discusses the moral and legal status of embryos and fetuses. Chapter One goes into detail about the interest view, the idea that all and only beings who have interests have moral status. The interest view is used to distinguish whose interests we are required to take into consideration. Besides the interest view, ...
1. Humane euthanasia. Swine producers are seeking a non-physical manner in which to humanely euthanize piglets. ARS researchers in West Lafayette, IN have found that a unique combination of gases are able to anesthetize piglets prior to euthanasia with a second more harmful gas to allow for humane euthanasia. Development of this technique for on-farm use will allow pigs to be humanely euthanized. It will also decrease the use of physical techniques of piglet euthanasia which are often criticized by animal rights groups and often found to be objectionable to perform by farm workers. 2. Osteoporosis in laying hens. Currently, most laying hens are housed in conventional cages in the United States, which limits their movement and ability to perform natural behavior, such as roosting, which can cause osteoporosis (a progressive decrease in mineralized structural bone). Osteoporosis causes 20 to 35% of all mortalities in caged White Leghorn hens. Reducing or eliminating osteoporosis associated with ...

We are beset by interests that would end the hobby and business that all of us love. Animal Rights groups have been on the march for eight years on a national campaign to end reptile ownership state by state. They have successfully enacted their model legislation and restricted private ownership of many reptiles in about a dozen states.|/i| - VenomousReptiles.org - The SHHS is a group of venomous reptile keepers educating the public about venomous snakes and lizards. These people are bullies and thugs. They give the entire animal rights movement a bad name. I may be pursuing a career in scientific research in a couple of years and I dont want to have to deal with harassment like this.. @Lyra: Its not inconsistent to hold humans and cats/tigers to different standards. When a male lion takes over a pride, he often kills any cubs fathered by the previous male. Nobody suggests that the lion should be arrested for this. However, if a human male tried to do the same thing, killing his stepchildren, we would expect him to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and all of us would call his behaviour unacceptable.. The difference is that humans, unlike other animals, are capable of acting as moral agents. We have highly developed mental lives and innate senses of empathy and fairness. Other social animals possess these instincts to a limited degree, though they lack our mental sophistication and our ability to extend moral intuitions by reasoning. We can ...
I think the secularists and the Islamists create a very volatile and potent synergy of hate, Smith told the hearing, saying that European anti-Semitism is often masked as criticism of Israel.. Witnesses of several religious groups from Europe and the U.S. told the committee that European Jews are more vulnerable than their American counterparts to prejudiced policies by their governments.. Rabbi Andrew Baker, of the American Jewish Committee, said that some Dutch Jews feel unable to protest against laws banning kosher slaughter in Holland for fear of provoking a backlash.. Some of them told us: We fear that Dutch citizens are more disposed to animal rights than principles of the Jewish faith, Rabbi Baker said.. The secularists give no quarter or understanding and even less respect for people of faith and it manifests even more strongly against Jews, Smith told The Daily Telegraph.. Some of the European witnesses called on the U.S. government to crack down on antisemitic websites hosted on ...

David Telesco, bear management program coordinator for the FWC, stated to Mr. Fleshler that . . . he thinks the states bear population could sustain a controlled hunt, with restrictions, although he said he couldnt be sure without a formal study. Less clear, he said, is whether such a proposal would win public support.. Mr. Telesco acknowledged, There are strident supporters for and against. We have to test the waters. We dont have a feel for what the general public would think. Furthermore, he said, The bear-human conflict issue has really taken off. We have a combination of a growing bear population and infringement on their habitat.. Thankfully not everyone is sold on the bear hunting alternative. As noted in Mr. Fleshlers article, . . . any move to open up hunting would be certain to face opposition from environmental and animal rights groups.. Said Laurie Macdonald, who oversees the work of the Defenders of Wildlife Florida program team in protecting and restoring Floridas ...
Thursday, April 7, 2011. Fair Chase. By Duane Fronek. I see this little phrase come up from time to time. What Im about to write might infuriate some and please others and leave others thinking about where they stand on this little phrase. My thoughts on the phrase Fair Chase in a nutshell is basically, has got to be the most dangerous word to outdoor men and women and our pursuits in the wild when it comes to hunting, trapping and fishing. The phrase in my opinion is probably the most responsible for hunting, trapping and fishing rights lost over the years, pitting one outdoorsmen and women against another. Simply put fair chase is basically not just a phrase but an attitude and a tool to justify ones way of doing things, while sacrificing those of another. We see it all the time when issues come up such as the use of cross bows, high fence, hunting with hounds, trapping and the list goes on. The animal rights groups love that little phrase, because they have it figured out, and know those ...

Rhode Island, California, and Louisiana legislatures are considering laws to create animal abuse registries to keep track of citizens convicted of animal cruelty and abuse.. Similar to systems currently used to keep track of sex offenders, those convicted of violating animal rights laws would have to register personal information with local law enforcement and the information would be publicly accessible.. According to the DVM 360, an online veterinary newspaper, the registries being considered in California and Rhode Island would define an animal abuser as anyone over the age of 18 convicted of a felony animal abuse offense. Louisiana would require registration for any animal abuse conviction at all ages.. The laws would require registrants to list their personal information, employers name and location, the date and details of their animal abuse offense, said DVM. Law enforcement authorities will have a varied number of days, according to each state, to enter the abusers information in to ...
WE NEED TO MOVE!!. Hello, Everybody, hows it going? I wanted to reach out and see what we can do together to save and revitalize The Wallflower Gallery. This is a group project, so if we want to have an artistic and creative community space in Miami, The Wallflower Gallery can be that platform.. I was recently informed by the landlord that he plans to tear down the building as soon as possible - he mentioned April, but I think we can delay it if we can get some money to him. This money will buy us the time to transition smoothly.. For almost 13 years, The Wallflower Gallery has stood as a place for musicians to play, for poets to share their poems, for visual artists to display their pieces, for independent film makers to showcase films and videos, for actors to act, as well as host a larger assortment of creative showcases. In addition, we have worked with a variety of community organizations to help with local issues, programs for young people, alternative transportation, animal rights, ...
