To reach the target, the ministry has issued a plan to supervise production chains to process export quality chicken. The domestic animal husbandry industry has supplied between 500,000 and 700,000 tonnes of meat and eight billion eggs per year but only salted duck eggs have been exported to Hong Kong and Singapore and the remaining was consumed in the domestic market, the ministry said.Nguyen Xuan Duong, deputy director of the Animal Husbandry Department, said that since 2015, with regard to the export of animal husbandry products, the industry had developed a plan to establish a safe region without diseases for poultry and cattle, for a certification of food safety from the veterinary department and meet regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health that would help boost the export of meat to other countries. If the local enterprises receive permission to export chicken to Japan next year, it would be a good beginning for the local husbandry industry in exporting chicken to … [Read ...
Downloadable! The number of breeds of domesticated animals, especially livestock, have declined rapidly. The proximate causes and processes involved in loss of breeds are outlined. Also the path-dependent effect and Swansons dominance-effect are discussed in relation to lock-in of breed selection. While these effects help to explain genetic erosion, they need to be supplemented to provide further explanation of biodiversity loss. In the respect, it is shown that the extension of markets and economic globalisation have contributed significantly to the loss of breeds. In addition, the decoupling of animal husbandry from surrounding natural environmental conditions, particularly industrialised intensive animal husbandry, is further eroding the stock of genetic resources. Recent trends in animal husbandry raise serious sustainability issues, apart from animal welfare concerns.

We investigate biases in farm-level yield risk analysis caused by data aggregation from the farm-level to regional and national levels using the example of Swiss wheat and barley yields. The estimated yield variability decreases significantly with increasing level of aggregation, with crop yield variability at the farm-level being up to 2.38 times higher than indicated from national data. Our results show furthermore that inference on shape parameters based on aggregated data might be misleading. Using an example of farm yield insurance, we show that using crop yield variability estimates from aggregated levels leads to erroneous insurance contract specifications.

Herd fertility in pasture-based dairy farms is a key driver of farm economics [1]. The primary goal of reproduction management of both nulliparous heifers and lactating cows is to have animals conceiving in a timely manner to achieve the optimal calving pattern. The factors affecting the reproductive performance of lactating dairy cows have been comprehensively studied, but analyses of heifer fertility have been rare. Careful management of heifer reproduction is important to optimise future production, health and the costs of calf-rearing [2]. It is generally accepted that calving for the first time should occur at 22 to 24 months of age in both seasonal-calving grazing systems [3-5] and year-round calving confinement systems [2, 6] to maximise lifetime productivity.. The reproductive performance of nulliparous animals comprises three major components: the onset of ovarian activity during puberty; expression and detection of oestrus for service; and the outcome of service once performed. The ...
One of the critical decisions facing livestock producers in Illinois is how to best utilize the forage resources on their farm. In a typical cow-calf operation, forages supply over 80 percent of the annual feed requirement. Over 90 percent of the diet of breeding ewes are forage. The manner in which this valuable resource is utilized often determines the profitability of a livestock operation. Unfortunately, on many farms pasture and haylands have received the least amount of management attention. In recent years producer awareness of pasture management has been increasing. A number of factors have brought this about. Mainly, economic conditions have forth producers to look at their bottom line and this has reflected the low returns from mismanagement of forages and pastures. Also, worldwide lowering of feed grain prices and new emphasis on soil erosion and water quality have led many farmers to a renewed interest in forage and grassland agriculture. Lastly, advancements in the technology of ...
Maternal and reproductive performances of crossbred cows were evaluated over five years. Breed types of the cows used in this study were representative of the breeds that exist in commercial cow herds in Louisiana and the Southeast. Cows ranging in age from 4 to 10 years were impregnated by artificial insemination (AI) to Simmental sires that varied by 20.4 pounds in weaning weight EPDs. Sires included four moderate (MOD) bulls with an average weaning weight EPD of 21.4 pounds and three high (HIGH) bulls with an average weaning weight EPD of 41.8 pounds. All bulls used in this study had high accuracies (greater than 85 percent) for weaning weight EPDs, indicating that EPD values would be expected to be fairly reliable. Once randomly assigned, considering cow breed type, cow age, calving date and calf sex, cows were synchronized for estrus and inseminated ...

Nitrogen (N) budgets at farm gate level account for all N inputs and outputs in a particular farm. Indicators derived from the N budgets are crucial for characterising farm performance, due to the important role of N in food production and environmental sustainability. However, comparison among farm N indicators from different farms, farm types and regions requires conducting systematic monitoring of N budgets following a common and solid approach. Because of this, the EU N Expert Panel (EUNEP) developed a guidance document to estimate N inputs and outputs at the farm gate and calculate the N indicators.. M. Quemada1, L. Lassaletta1, L.S. Thinking of cooking meat and introspection, Eating Animals is a lightly written look at the heavy material of animal husbandry. By lightly written, I mean that it is engaging and relatively easy to read, without substantial references to other literature, history, or philosophical works. But the material is heavy and the challenges to your conventional thinking great. In the Omnivores Dilemma, Michael Pollan focuses on the health and environmental impacts of conventional meat, particularly beef, production. From an animal welfare perspective, he primarily considers the life of the animal, the way in which they are treated, the space they have to live, and the humanity that is afforded them. He follows the life of one cow and highlights for the reader the manure-filled paddocks where the animals wade in feces, with little room to move and forced to eat corn, a vegetable their body was not intended to consume. He leaves off at the slaughterhouse. Jonathan Safran Foer doesnt. He peers more deeply ...

The purpose of the work is to establish correlation age of chromosomal instability of cows of Gray Ukrainian breed.. The cytogenetic analysis was carried out of the cows of Gray Ukrainian cattle (30 ch.) from the experimental farm "Markeevo" of the Institute of Animal Husbandry of the steppe areas Askania-Nova.. Cytogenetic preparations were prepared according to the traditional method. Animals detected genomic mutations associated with chromosomal changes in karyotype, as well as structural abnormalities (chromosomal and chromatic aberration.. 100 metaphase plates were analyzed of each animal analyzed. On these same drugs, the number of dual-core lymphocytes (DN), single nucleus microcircuits (MI), and mitotic index (MI) were counted. The frequency of DA, MI, and MI was calculated in ppm (number per 1000 cells).. The results of cytogenetic analysis showed that for heifers of 9-16 months old the proportion of cells with aneuploidy was 10.4%, it was 1.5 times higher than the spontaneous level ...

by Camille Cody. The trees are showing new buds and little buttons of color are popping up on the hillsides and along walkways - Spring has come. This also means the days are getting longer and the soil is warming up ever so gently (though getting it to hurry up and dry out is another matter, entirely.) All of these factors contribute to being able to spend more time in the garden, planting and working the soil as well as getting stir-crazy animals back out on pasture again.. At Mystery Bay Farm on Marrowstone Island, Rachael and Scott have more than doubled the head count on their herd of goats this year and as of mid-March have been milking full-on; this means vigilantly showing up at 12-hour intervals, both at 6am and 6pm everyday to milk the 12 does that gave birth this year (practicing good animal husbandry demands a regular milking schedule so that udders never become too swollen - which can lead to discomfort and disease - and because goats, like other livestock, thrive on habit and ...

A majority of the population in low income countries live in rural areas and most of these are dependent on agriculture and livestock for their daily subsistence. In these settings animal husbandry is central and provides poor families with food, traction, fertilizer, fuel, and capital reserves. The health of the animals is important to safe guard food security, to reduce the risks for zoonotic infections and can also empower women as women are often the ones responsible for the animals. Consequently animal disease outbreaks can have devastating consequences for the poverty status, food supply and health of poor families.. ...

Americans consume vastly more chicken, turkey, pork and beef than foie gras and veal, and most of the creatures those meats come from are raised in ways that are ethically and environmentally unsound. And so the New York Times lauds chef Wolfgang Pucks decision to use products only from animals raised under strict humane standards in all his restaurants. This means no more battery chicken or beef, but also no more foie gras. As a reader of this site, youre probably aware of my support for ethical and humane animal husbandry but also my support for foie gras.. Ive read a lot about foie gras production, articles in support of it and articles against it. The one I found most enlightening was Jeffrey Steingartens article for Mens Vogue from the spring of 2006, Stuffed Animals: Is foie gras the height of gastronomic pleasure or murder most fowl? His reports of stress studies done on foie gras ducks and geese conclude the animals are not in pain during the feeding process. And so Ive felt ...
Work on the strategy to combat antibiotic resistance started in 2008, and over the years efforts to combat resistance have been continued and strengthened.. Federal Health Minister Hermann Gröhe said: "The global spread of antibiotic resistance needs to be stopped.. "When antibiotics are not effective, we are threatened with falling back to the treatment options of a pre-penicillin era, with dramatic consequences.. "Diseases that can be easily cured today, such as a bladder infection or an inflamed wound from an operation could then result in serious illness.. "We have already made important progress, now it comes down to strengthening not only national efforts but also international efforts.. "It is necessary to have clear rules on the use of antibiotics in medicine and in animal husbandry, and also research and development into new antibiotics, alternative therapy methods and tests for rapid diagnosis.. "No state can stop the worldwide rise of antibiotic resistance alone, so we must also ...

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Attorneys for Organic Consumers Association (OCA) filed a limited motion for summary judgment, with the D.C. Superior Court, in the nonprofits false advertising lawsuit, filed in July 2018, against Unilever-owned Ben & Jerrys.. The motion asks the court to find that Ben & Jerrys falsely claimed that its "Caring Dairy" animal husbandry standards were "required for all farmers" who supplied the dairy used in its products. The motion states that Ben & Jerrys admitted that it uses milk from "conventional dairy sources" that do not adhere to "Caring Dairy" standards. "Consumer protection laws are intended to protect consumers from advertising, marketing and packaging claims that are patently false," said Ronnie Cummins, OCAs international director. "This goal will be achieved only if companies like Unilever are challenged when they make false claims about their brands, and held accountable by the courts. OCAs mission includes working on behalf of consumers to make sure our ...

The two mountains are an extensive mountain complex, well wooded with mixed and coniferous forests with continental climate, with cool summers.. The situation of the place is excellent physical and the trend is the slow degradation. The forest complex shows less degradation compared to other land uses. Threats come from illegal hunting, expansion of the road network, the illegal-logging, farming etc. These have the effect of reducing biodiversity habitat. More specifically, some of the activities, actual or not, directly threatening the rare avifauna of the area are :. - The abandonment of traditional agricultural practices and land use, including the abandonment of extensive agriculture and animal husbandry. - Illegal use of poisoned baits for the control of "harmful" mammals. - The activities that cause disturbance (hunting, logging, fishing, gathering plants and firewood[1]). - The construction of small hydropower plants in Pefkoto, Aetochori and the valley of Foustani. - The planned ...
The raven and the dove give Noah a certain credibility as a sailor, although Midrashic sources suggest that he spent all his sea-going time learning what and when to feed the animals in his charge. So much so, says one, that he never closed his eyes for one minute during his 150 days afloat. As a sailor, Noah became expert in animal husbandry. Back on land, Noah showed no further interest in the sea: he took up farming and planted the worlds first vineyard. Though in becoming also the worlds first drunk, he may have been exhibiting an elemental trait of the old seadog.. Moses, too, floated to salvation in an ark, though by now, it seems, boat-building skills had been acquired and there was no need for direct guidance from God. When the mother of Moses could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river brink. This is more river than sea-faring, but its an oddly watery ...
Published 18 December 2012 From Derek Williams Even though Californians voted against mandatory labelling of genetically modified foods (17 November, p 28), it is worth considering the details of a suitable system.. For a long time everything humans ate was "natural" food. Then came agriculture and animal husbandry, and we started to "modify" food by selective breeding. Then we discovered how to alter genes in the lab.. This suggests three label codes would suffice. GN (Genes Natural), SG (Selected Genes) and GM (Modified Genes). I believe that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I wish the GN-only fanatics the very best of luck.. Donvale, Victoria, Australia ...

Only after you find a Bull for whom you are New Cow. Once you are known (in the Biblical sense), you ll henceforth be Old Cow to him. Zigman gets the details right: the West Village studio, the best friend who has her calls held while you commiserate, the queasy disgust on a man s face when you eat Häagen-Dazs out of the container. Many Australian lotfeeders, including JBS Australia and Teys Australia, have been working hard to convince producers, through price premium incentives, to vaccinate pre-induction into feedyards.. One of the most common points of resistance to this has been the fact that animals need to be vaccinated two to three weeks before delivery.. Under the new label change, the greatly extended treatment period means the vaccine can be used as part of normal husbandry practices at weaning, rather than requiring a special muster for treatment.. Coopers Animal Health marketing manager Paul Speer said over the past couple of years, sales of the Bovilis vaccine had increased by more than 50pc as feedlots and backgrounders recognised the benefits it provided in helping to control BRD, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality.. The main barrier to use however has been the short window available to apply the vaccine prior to sale of the animal.. "By providing flexibility in the interval between doses, weve made ...

Exploring Swine Health and Husbandry curriculum helps youth develop the requisite knowledge and skills associated with raising and showing swine.
Its hard work that involves a lot of repetitive cutting into meat with knife in one hand, hook in the other. Everyone who sticks with it learns how to manage their pain. (Five months after I quit, my wrists and elbows still hurt.) What every inspector knows and appreciates, because many of them worked for meat companies before they worked for the government, is that regular line workers have it worse-most do only one job (they dont rotate) and take fewer breaks.. Among the things I saw: Cattle husbandry practices take a toll on their health-which the inspectors see hour after hour in things like liver abscesses. And Temple Grandins vaunted curving ramps, which cattle ascend in the minutes before they die, may make them feel a bit less good than advertised.. My article about this is in the May issue of Harpers magazine (and currently behind a pay wall here).. ...
Rabbits reared with techniques adapted to specific environments can do much to improve the family diet of many of the neediest rural families, at the same time supplying a regular source of income. The purpose of this work is to bring together as fully and objectively as possible all the available data on rabbit husbandry, health and production. It is also intended as a contribution to the preparation and execution of rabbit development programmes, particularly in developing countries. A team of scientists from the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), a world-renowned rabbit authority, was marshalled to cover the many and varied aspects of rabbit production.

Costs associated with the cropping enterprise are extremely important whether a producer has a livestock operation or growing cash crops.
|h2|Introduction|/h2| |p|Monitoring income over feed costs, or IOFC, is a proven way to evaluate a dairys profitability. When IOFC is monitored on a monthly basis, it can be a good barometer to gauge when the herd is profitable, when it is not, and when

Feeding behavior of group-housed dairy cows is influenced by management practices at the feed bunk and factors associated with the physical and social environment. The feeding pattern of group-housed dairy cows is largely influenced by the timing of fresh feed delivery, and the delivery of fresh feed has a greater impact on stimulating cows to eat than does the return from milking. Delivering fresh feed more frequently improves access to fresh feed for all cows and reduces sorting of the TMR. This potentially will reduce variation in diet quality consumed by cows, with benefits for milk production ...

Finally, after all that, I got a JEE5 application deployed and running for a quick test of all components. Everything worked perfectly - infact, Weblogic actually seems to run faster than it does on the Windows side - under the same hardware. On the whole, I also saw that the OS was consuming lesser memory helping programs overall. Ubuntu seems a really viable option for Java developers, and I would definitely recommend that you give some thought to this option, especially in your organization if youre a pure Java shop - lesser cost to maintain, and closer to your production environments. MS applications like Office have substitutes (OpenOffice, Evolution), but you can also use virtualization software to run these MS apps seamlessly on Ubuntu using something like QEmu. I really do think this has the potential to take off in many organizations ...
But different monitoring metrics mean that youll have to relearn how to tune your architecture. AWS DynamoDB exposes read and write capacity for you to monitor and tune, which is a concept that youll have to understand - and the learning isnt transferable to other serverless platforms. Each of the services you use will also have their limitations. AWS Lambda has concurrent executions limit, not the number of CPU cores you have. To make it a little bit quirkier, changing the memory allocation size of your Lambda will change the number of CPU cores you get. If you are sharing one AWS account for your performance testing and production environments, you might bring your production down if the performance test unexpectedly consumes your entire concurrent execution limits. AWS documents the limits for each of these services pretty well, so make sure you check it so that you can make the right architecture decisions. ...

Microsoft Chief Information Officer Ron Markezich says, "About a year ago we conducted a major analysis of leading gateway antivirus products. We set up a controlled lab environment that fully matched the Microsoft production environment in number of servers, simulated traffic and so on. We tested on the basis of both performance and functionality. Could a product maintain its virus-catching performance even under the most stressful loads? Could it perform under unexpected conditions, such as when a computer reboots because of maintenance updates? Did the solution support all the messaging encoding it was likely to encounter? Did it integrate natively with Exchange Server, eliminating the need for dedicated virus scanning computers ...
PostgreSQL requires a certain amount of tuning to operate at optimum efficiency. The default settings for a new PostgreSQL installation are very conservative, and are intended to make sure that the postmaster will be able to start up so that you can get started setting up your databases. It is not, however, a very useful setup for a production database environment, since it severely limits the amount of shared memory that the postmaster can allocate for itself.. To tune PostgreSQL, first determine the amount of memory you want to give to your running PostgreSQL server. In a production environment where PostgreSQL is running on a dedicated machine, this will be the entire memory minus the amount needed to run kernel services. In other situations it will pay to observe the machine while running Bricolage and whatever other services are necessary, and make a guesstimate of the amount of memory you are willing to give to the database server. The amount of memory you decide on may be considered your ...
High-performance products and manufacturing systems require accurate measurements for a wide range of parameters and in a wide range of production environments. Complex and efficient manufacturing systems often use processes operating in challenging or even hostile environments - at high temperatures, at very-high or very-low pressures or using rapidly-changing mechanical inputs, such as force, torque and pressure. These create corresponding challenges for the metrology infrastructure, not only requiring improved capabilities at NMIs but also practical solutions for the manufacturing plant. ...
