Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is a hereditary disorder that affects primarily the elastic tissues of skin, eyes and blood vessels. Its estimated prevalence is thought to be 1:25,000 - 100,000. Case 1: A 49 year-old woman with history of Hepatitis C and chronic mild leucopenia presents with vision loss of the right eye. Distance-corrected visual acuity (DCVA) of the right eye was hand movement and of the left eye was 10/10. Yellow papules and plucked chicken skin lesions compatible with pseudoxanthoma elasticum were found in the cervical skin. Typical lesions of angioid streaks were visible in both eyes, as well as subfoveal CNV associated with rupture of the retinal pigmentary epithelium (RPE), an area of subretinal haemorrhage and macular subretinal fibrosis. Diseases such as pseudoxanthoma elasticum are hallmarked by calcification of soft tissues. In order to prevent and remove these unwanted calcifications, scientists are searching for the essential ingredients that cause the calcifications to occur. In this webinar we discuss the role of injury to tissues in the formation of such calcifications. Emphasis will be on the role of muscle injury in the formation of a disease process callled heterotopic ossification.

It looks like you streaked several times from the same sample of yeast, and that there was a bit too much liquid in each streak (they resemble puddles). The liquid should be nearly invisible on your when applied to the plate. Also the plate surface should be a bit dry, so liquid is absorbed quickly.. The streaking technique is important too: the plate in the second picture was streak at least twice, but yeast was only added once. They dipped the inoculating loop in the yeast sample for the streak on the left, then the loop was sterilized and used for the second streak on the right - without adding any more yeast. The yeast in the right streak came from the streak on the left. Many people will repeat the steak & sterilize steps 4 or 5 times as they work around the plate, spread the yeast thinner and thinner.
