Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic relapsing pruritic skin disease of dogs for which treatment has varied over time and geographical location. Recent high quality randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews have established which drugs are likely to offer consistent benefit. The International Task Force for Canine AD currently recommends a multi-faceted approach to treat dogs with AD. Acute flares should be treated with a combination of nonirritating baths and topical glucocorticoids, once an attempt has been made to identify and remove the suspected causes of the flare. Oral glucocorticoids and antimicrobial therapy must be added when needed. In dogs with chronic AD, a combination of interventions should be considered. Again, factors that trigger flares of AD must be identified and, if possible, avoided. Currently recognized flare factors include food, flea and environmental allergens, Staphylococcus bacteria and Malassezia yeast. Skin and coat hygiene and care must be improved ...
The international task force on treating-to-target in SLE (T2T/SLE) has developed a set of Overarching Principles and Recommendations that are expected to be the first step in a long-term process. These bullets are directed at experienced physicians and are not meant to replace clinical judgment, knowledge acquired in appropriate training and continuous medical education, and experience acquired in the real-world care of patients with SLE. Moreover, the treatment targets identified here, or the measures used to ascertain them, may have to be adjusted in accordance with patient preferences, comorbidities or risks.. There may, in some situations, be confusion about the word target. Certainly the word target could be used to indicate a molecule or cell type that can be targeted with a medication or biologic, but in the context of this article target does, of course, not refer to such drug therapy targets but to the therapeutic goal we set for each individual patient.. For treatment-to-target ...

Friends of the Earth have called for the Governments expert committee on antimicrobial resistance to look at the widespread use of nano-silver in consumer products.. The call follows the release of a survey by the Australian Group on Antimicrobial Resistance in The Age which found a worrying trend of E. coli and Klebsiella species to produce enzymes that make them resistant to some of the most powerful antibiotics.. This adds to the findings of a recent University of Notre Dame report which found that our widespread use of nano-silver presents an emerging safety and ethics problem.. The overuse of antibiotics by Australians is contributing to a crisis that the World Health Organisation has labelled one of the greatest threats to human health today.. In Australia more than 7000 deaths each year are caused by bacteria resistance to antimicrobials and antibiotics. The medical community has been turning to nano-silver as an antimicrobial of last resort.. Yet at the same time, many companies have ...

Like the 2010 treat-to-target recommendations, the updated version is aimed at practising rheumatologists and other health professionals caring for patients with RA; official bodies such as governments or payers who may have an interest to assess clinical practice in their environment; but also clinical trialists and regulators, given that strategic trials have meanwhile become a focus of industry-initiated studies after having had a sole investigator initiated nature for long. Patients are another important audience for whom a separate version is planned in line with the 2010 recommendations.108. The procedures were initiated by a Steering Committee that adhered to the EULAR operating procedures.109 The Steering Committee solicited the SLRs.33 Based on this new evidence, a large Task Force was convened comprising 43 individuals, of whom 5 were patient representatives and 37 rheumatologists from around the world. This Advisory Committee met in July of 2010 to discuss this same NDA. Several members of the earlier Advisory Committee are returning either as full AdComm members or as temporary members.. The 2010 AdComm voted 6 to 10 against recommending approval for QNEXA. The reasons given were primarily safety concerns in the areas of neurological/cognitive, cardiovascular, metabolic acidosis and teratogenicity and the need for studies in a broader population of patients. The sponsor has responded to the concerns raised and has included a 1 year extension of one of the pivotal Phase 3 studies which measured both efficacy and attempted to address the safety concerns.. July 25, 2018,. The Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye is encouraging the fourteen directorates of NAFDAC to interact more with the Nigerian public through awareness and education of food- or drug-related public health issues. Three of the directorates: Drug Evaluation and Research (DER), Veterinary and Allied Products (VMAP) and Registrations and Regulatory Affairs (R&R) have put together this press release on antimicrobial resistance.. As part of its mandate in safeguarding the health of the citizenry, NAFDAC wishes to draw the attention of the general public to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a subject that has become a global concern to both human and animal health. The incidence of AMR leads to treatment failure or infections that cannot be easily treated, death and economic loss. This is a real problem in Nigeria because we tend to not finish antibiotic medication or buy only what can be afforded. In a local hospital in Nigeria, it was reported that many neonates or newborn acquire ...

Risks are always present in every project life cycle. A good project manager needs to be able to mitigate the risks proactively as well as keep an eye for potential risks. Good project management requires effective ways to control risks. Control risk is a process that involves the implementation of risk response plans. It also involves tracking the identified threatening risks, identifying new risks, monitoring residual risks as well as evaluating the efficacy of risk processes utilized during the entire project.. Control risks is a process under the project risk management. Part of project risk management. White Paper: Overview of initial findings from a one year on-going survey conducted by PCI Global, an international Project Management training and consulting company. The survey consists of fourteen questions rating all aspects of participating companys corporate project effectiveness. It has been administered to over 100 participants more than 80% of whom are project managers or team members-the groups who bear the brunt of their organizations effectiveness. Readers will take and review each question revealing startling details about how effective their project management office really is.PCIs initial findings suggest the greatest impact or predictor of project success is whether the senior management-knowingly or unknowingly-support, ignore or actually obstruct project progress. The International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 calls on all governments, education providers and funders - public and private - to recognise the critical roles that teachers play in the COVID-19 response and recovery. Call to action by the International Task Force on Teachers. As of 25 March, 165 countries have closed all their schools because of the COVID-19 virus, affecting nearly 1.5 billion students and 63 million primary and secondary school teachers. This number is predicted to rise. The closures pose unprecedented challenges for education systems throughout the world. This global health crisis threatens to significantly slow progress towards many of the global goals, in particular, the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all). It is also likely to exacerbate the global learning crisis and global education inequalities as the impacts will fall disproportionately on the ...
Recently, the concept of sepsis was redefined by an international task force. This international task force of experts recommended using the quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) criteria instead of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria to classify patients at high risk for death. However, the added value of these new criteria in the emergency department (ED) remains unclear. Thus, we performed this meta-analysis to determine the diagnostic accuracy of the qSOFA criteria in predicting mortality in ED patients with infections and compared the performance with that of the SIRS criteria. PubMed, EMBASE and Google Scholar (up to April 2018) were searched for related articles. A 2 × 2 contingency table was constructed according to mortality and qSOFA score (| 2 and ≥ 2) or SIRS score (| 2 and ≥ 2) in ED patients with infections. Two investigators independently assessed study eligibility and extracted data. We used a bivariate meta-analysis model to determine the

In its early stages, diphtheria can be mistaken for a bad sore throat. A low-grade fever and swollen neck glands are the other early symptoms.. The toxin, or poison, caused by the bacteria can lead to a thick coating in the nose, throat, or airway. This coating is usually fuzzy gray or black and can cause breathing problems and difficulty in swallowing. The formation of this coating (or membrane) in the nose, throat, or airway makes a diphtheria infection different from other more common infections (such as strep throat-it is an infection caused by group A streptococcus bacteria,) that cause sore throat.. As the infection progresses, the person may:. have difficulty breathing or swallowing. complain of double vision. have slurred speech. even show signs of going into shock (skin thats pale and cold, rapid heartbeat, sweating, and an anxious appearance). In cases that progress beyond a throat infection, diphtheria toxin spreads through the bloodstream and can lead to potentially life-threatening ...

Good morning. It has become increasingly clear in recent months that we are facing an economic crisis of historic proportions. At this defining moment for our nation, the old ways of thinking and acting just wont do. We are called to seek fresh thinking and bold new ideas from the leading minds across America. And as we chart a course to economic recovery, we must ensure that our government - your government - is held accountable for delivering results. Today, Im pleased to announce the formation of a new institution to help our economic team accomplish these goals: the Presidents Economic Recovery Advisory Board. This Board is modeled on the Presidents Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board created by President Eisenhower to provide rigorous analysis and vigorous oversight of our intelligence community by individuals outside of government - individuals who would be candid and unsparing in their assessment. The International Task Force used a Delphi-like process called the CORE process to address clinical questions related to pharmacotherapy of acute COVID-19 pneumonia and the outpatient follow-up of COVID-19 survivors. The former was informed by accumulating empirical evidence, whereas the latter was informed by clinical rationale because no empirical evidence exists. There are two main goals of consensus suggestions. The first is to standardise care, thereby improving outcomes by eliminating dangerous outlying practices and facilitating research by defining usual care (table 2). The second is to identify key areas where equipoise (uncertainty) exists and research is needed (table 3).. A suggestion for an intervention conveys the Task Forces belief that the benefits exceed the harms and, therefore, the intervention should be used. The Task Force made consensus suggestions for remdesivir and dexamethasone in patients with acute COVID-19 pneumonia who require any type of oxygen support: i.e. ...
Dummy response and restraint configuration factors associated with a known child injury environment were investigated using a spinal-cord injury accident case, a full-scale reconstruction, and sled simulations. The work is one of several studies undertaken in association with the International Task Force on Child Restraining Systems to support the development of improved neck injury criteria and restraint systems for young children. A two-vehicle crash involving a restrained child occupant was investigated in detail and reconstructed in full-scale at the Transport Canada Motor Vehicle Test Centre using the CRABI 6-Month dummy. Vehicle damage and crush characteristics closely resembled that of the case vehicles. Dummy instrumentation included head and chest accelerometers and upper and lower neck transducers. The case occupant had been facing forward and had sustained a contusion of the spinal cord at T2 that resulted in paraplegia. The crash environment was then simulated in a more simplified ...
