The purpose of this study is to establish teaching hospital accreditation standards anew with the hope that Taiwans teaching hospitals can live up to the expectations of our society and ensure quality teaching. The development process lasted two years, 2005-2006, and was separated into three stages. The first stage centered on leadership meetings and consensus building, the second on drafting the new standards with expert focus groups, and the third on a pilot study and subsequent revision. Our new teaching hospital accreditation standards have six categories and 95 standards as follows: educational resources (20 items), teaching and training plans and outcomes (42 items), research and results (9 items), development of clinical faculty and continuing education (8 items), academic exchanges and community education (8 items), and administration (8 items). The new standards have proven feasible and posed reasonable challenges in the pilot study. We hope the new standards will strengthen teaching and

As the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) begins its voluntary accreditation program, it is important to understand what organizational, structural, and workforce factors relate to the likelihood of local health departments (LHD) seeking accreditation under PHAB. The Nebraska PBRN makes use of the states recently developed regional public health structure to assess and compare readiness for accreditation among regional health departments and single-county health departments within the state, and to examine the utility of quality improvement (QI) strategies implemented by health departments in preparing for accreditation. The study analyzes self-assessed performance data collected from all local health departments through the states Local Health Department Standards and Measures tool. Combining these data with the newly released PHAB accreditation standards, the study examines performance variation across agencies and estimates agency readiness for the PHAB accreditation process, with a specific focus on differences in readiness between regional and single-county agencies. Additionally, the study links performance data with newly collected data from an ongoing study of local health department engagement in QI strategies (a PBRN Quick Strike study) to ...

Alexandria, VA, December 2, 2019 - Strong public health departments engaged in effective community partnerships make all communities healthier places to live, work, learn, and play. Today, PHAB announced it has awarded initial accreditation status to nine local health departments, and national reaccreditation status to four local health departments. With these decisions, the benefits of being served by a PHAB-accredited health department now reach 81 percent of the U.S. population.. National initial accreditation was awarded November 19, 2019 to:. ...
The reach of accreditation is extensive and the investments in it in many sectors are considerable. Industries such as school education, [2] universities, [3, 4] software manufacture, [5] the seafood sector, [6] and ambulance services [7] have embraced accreditation, standard setting, and surveying processes. Accreditation has been applied to laboratories, [8] management systems, [9] products,[10] medical curricula, [11] and staff competencies [12]. Essentially, the core concerns addressed by the processes of accreditation are whether organizations satisfy pre-designated standards, are regularly examined and continuously improved, and the extent to which customer satisfaction is met or enhanced [13]. However, we lack convincing evidence of the long-term effects and organizational impact of accreditation processes.. The health sector, as an early adopter of accreditation, has promoted its use since 1951 (the Joint Commission in the United States of America), and in Australia since 1973. ...
In this systematic review, we examined 20 studies involving accreditation and certification aimed at improving patient and organizational outcomes. Because few studies specifically addressed the correlation between accreditation and certification of hospitals and patient outcomes, we could not reach firm conclusions regarding effective strategies in this area.. This is no surprise as accreditation is anticipated as a prototypical example of a complex intervention. Within our classification of interventions, the manner in which the studies carried out specific interventions varied widely. There is complexity in the intervention components as well as in the theoretical background of the intervention, the implementation context, and the targeted outcomes [37]. The literature is dominated by descriptive studies attributing changes in the organization to the accreditation process. The research has ranged from identifying the change in compliance to standards, patient satisfaction, performance ...

According to Ed Boyd, executive director of Oregon Accreditation Alliance (and chief of police, retired), Accreditation means that an agency, their operations, management, policies and procedures meet the best practices the industry has to offer. The accreditation process in general is a progressive and contemporary way of helping law enforcement agencies evaluate and improve their overall performance and provides formal and professional recognition that an organization meets or exceeds best practice expectations of service and quality in the profession. To be accredited, an agency must meet 102 professional standards comprised of over 400 separate requirements contained within those standards. It also, in my opinion, takes courage for an organization to take on the rigorous accreditation process. Anytime the chief executive officer of an organization invites an outside third party into their department to review and inspect everything associated with their operations and render an opinion as ...

American College of Radiology (ACR) started the radiation oncology accreditation program in 1986 as a logical extension of the patterns of care study (PCS) and collected data from institutions that participated on the patterns of patient care among institutions. It published technical standard for various components of radiation oncology practices and evaluated the performance of centers based on practice guidelines. American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) joined ACR and formed an alliance to provide radiation oncology practice accreditation (ROPA) in 2008. ROPA provides an independent evaluation of radiation oncology center performance for a nominal fee and provides guidelines. Some states have now mandated that ROPA should be prerequisite for reimbursement as it provides a measure of quality of patient care. Accreditation process has 2 components, technical and clinical. In this talk technical components will be discussed followed by clinical component by a clinician. The technical ...

The ASBMB received a National Science Foundation grant in 2010 to develop the accreditation standards. The ASBMB Degree Accreditation Program is designed to recognize undergraduate biochemistry and molecular biology programs whose "features and infrastructure meet the standards set forth by the ASBMB." Students at accredited schools can obtain a certified degree by exhibiting satisfactory performance on a national exam administered by the organization. This evaluation instrument gives students an independently constructed and scored tool for assessing their level of achievement and the programs effectiveness. It is also an important way to demonstrate their competitiveness with peers from across the nation when applying for graduate programs, professional programs and jobs.. "We are really excited and proud to have earned this accreditation," said Pamela S. Mertz, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry. "Our chemistry program has been accredited by the American Chemical Society since ...

... is a process by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition of technical competence for specific tests/ measurements, based on third party assessment and following international standard. In the current global scenario an essential pre-requisite of trade is that any product or service accepted formally in one economy must also be free to circulate in other economies without having to undergo extensive re-testing. WTO recognizes that non acceptance of test results and measurement data is a Technical Barrier to Trade. Global sourcing of components calls for equivalence of measurement, which can be facilitated by a chain of accredited calibration laboratories. Accreditation is considered as the first essential step for facilitating mutual acceptance of test results and measurement data. Confidence in accreditation is obtained by a transparent system of control over the accredited laboratories and an assurance given by the accreditation body that the accredited ...

We focused on Standard 3 relating to hospital acquired infection. This was partly due to the specificity of the interventions that could be mapped across the ACHS and NSQHS Standards. In addition, infection control processes have become increasingly important as infections acquired during a hospital stay are a major cause of morbidity and result in significant costs in terms of increased length of stay and additional treatment [19]. Standard 3 comprises six main topics: governance and systems; patient management; infection prevention and control strategies; antimicrobial stewardship; cleaning, disinfecting and sterilisation; and communicating with patients and carers [20]. Hand hygiene compliance rates and Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) incidence rates in the Australian acute care sector are routinely collected and published, and we selected these indicators to test our indicator assessment tool..
