Rare Diseases
'Rare diseases' are those that affect fewer than 1 in 2,000 people in the European Union or fewer than 200,000 people in the United States, according to the definitions used by the European Commission and National Institutes of Health, respectively.
A rare disease, also known as an orphan disease, is a health condition that affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States or fewer than 1 in 2,000 people in Europe.
