Bilateral FRONTAL LOBE dysfunction involving the anterior cingulate gyrus and related brain injuries are associated with this condition. This may result in impaired abilities to communicate and initiate motor activities. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p348; Fortschr Neurol Psychiatr 1995 Feb;63(2):59-67)Mutism: The inability to generate oral-verbal expression, despite normal comprehension of speech. This may be associated with BRAIN DISEASES or MENTAL DISORDERS. Organic mutism may be associated with damage to the FRONTAL LOBE; BRAIN STEM; THALAMUS; and CEREBELLUM. Selective mutism is a psychological condition that usually affects children characterized by continuous refusal to speak in social situations by a child who is able and willing to speak to selected persons. Kussmal aphasia refers to mutism in psychosis. (From Fortschr Neurol Psychiatr 1994; 62(9):337-44)Orbital Diseases: Diseases of the bony orbit and contents except the eyeball.Orbital Cellulitis: Inflammation of the loose connective tissues around the ORBIT, bony structure around the eyeball. Every blogging shortcut you attempt leads to long term headaches. Shortcuts do not exist. Maybe ego convinces you a short, quick route to success can be found but every attempt leads to long headaches. For example, imagine believing publishing short, value-less comments on 1000 blogs daily boosts your online profits. Your ego deduces this sweet short cut gives you massive exposure which boosts your blogging profits quickly and easily. But shortcuts never exist. You just set yourself up to experience long headaches. Why? Bloggers label your hasty comments as spam. Going forward, every single comment you publish - even legit comments 2-3 paragraphs long - lands in spam, meaning barely anyone ever sees your comments again. Talk about a long, hard, painful headache to experience. Nobody sees your comments. How can you network? How can you make friends? Plus, even if bloggers see your spam comments in their backoffice, bloggers avoid you like the plague, being turned off by your spammy, relationship
PART ONE - personal blogging. My experience of blogging is long on the Internet timescale-just over two years. I am not young or frivolous, I have a demanding professional job, Im a parent and a commuter, so I am always horrendously busy. Yet for those two years I have managed to quarry an hour or so in the evening to read blogs and, most nights, to write a post myself. Why, when I could be doing something more "useful"?. The answer, in my case, is simple. I am, like many of us, "too" busy for anything else. I have neither the time nor the energy to socialise in the evenings, and in any case want to see my children occasionally. I would like to have stimulating discourse with friends or like-minded people, and to find out and discuss new ideas and concepts. Before blogging, these aims seemed impossible to achieve. I dont want to spend what little leisure time I have passively sitting in front of a TV screen (somebody else deciding what information I receive), or asleep over an open book, which ...

Regeneration: Contemporary Art from China and the US is a window into the progress of contemporary art in China, but only a few of the 26 artists on view at Otisí Ben Maltz Gallery truly stand out with originality and impact.. The tradition of art making is not a new thing for China. But Chinese artists have become more verbose in the last 30 some years after the end of Maoís communist regime. Brussels [http://visitbrussels.be/] (French: Bruxelles, Dutch: Brussel) is the capital city of Belgium and of Brussels Capital Region. It is entirely surrounded by Dutch-speaking Flanders and its constituent Flemish Brabant province. As headquarters of many European institutions, Brussels might also be considered something of a capital for the European Union. Being at the crossroads of cultures (the Germanic in the North and the Romance in the South) and playing an important role in Europe, Brussels fits the definition of the archetypal melting pot, but still retains its own unique character. The population of the city of Brussels is 1 million and the population of Brussels metropolitan area is just over 2 million.

The politics of Belgium takes place in a framework of a federal, parliamentary, representative democratic, constitutional monarchy.[3] Sorry, but making Belgian politics sound simple is nigh impossible with two legislative bodies, so lets make it even more difficult. Belgium is divided into three communities: Flemish, French and German-speaking. Furthermore it has three regions: Flemish, Walloon and Brussels. The Flemish region and community have only one shared government, while Brussels has an overall government, a Flemish government,a French government and a bilingual government. The French community unconstitutionally renamed itself the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, forming a federation within a federation. The Flemish politicians proclaimed that all posts containing that name are automatically invalid. Still following? Despite having no farmland at all, Brussels has a minister of agriculture. Belgium as a whole has five ministers of work and five posts of minister-president, divided ...

We bloggers have additional reason to hate Word. Blog posts or (God forbid) key snippets of HTML or Javascript used to enhance blog posts and templates, if composed or filtered through Microsoft Word, will acquire all sorts of deviant code. It looks vaguely like [o:p] - I dare not render it precisely, even by way of demonstration, because of this five-character strings potential to wreak technological havoc. If youre lucky, the Word-contaminated post wont render in your blogging platforms preview function, and you know better than to mash the "publish" button. If youre unlucky, it looks good enough on your screen, and your decision to publish then destroys a bunch of RSS feeds and XML scripts that power other peoples blogs and websites ...
Belgium - Belgium and World War I: As international tensions heightened during the summer of 1914, Germany made plans to besiege France by crossing Luxembourg and Belgium, despite their neutrality. The two countries refused free passage to the German troops and were invaded on August 2 and August 4, respectively. The Belgian army retired behind the Yser (IJzer) River in the west of Flanders and held this position until 1918. During the war, the Belgian government sat at Le Havre, France, while King Albert I, as commander in chief of the army, remained with his troops in unoccupied Belgium. In 1916 the Belgian Catholic Party government was
So this past Friday (February 19th) was my blogs 11 year anniversary. I published my first post here back in February 19th 2005, a really odd post which I find hilarious now since my blog has become what it is today. If I had known my blog would end up here I would have probably posted something a bit less… crude. But, what I just realized a few moments ago is that this February also marks the 13th anniversary of my first post on my first blog ever. Back in 2003 me and a few friends launch a blog called Qhate and my first post there was published on February 6th, 2003. At that time we were the first blog based in Kuwait and unlike my early posts on 248AM, I actually enjoy reading my old stuff on Qhate. For those of you who dont know, Qhate started off as a war blog in which we were posting about life in Kuwait during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. So reading through my old posts there just takes me back in time during the volatile period. If youve never gone through some of the posts there you ...

Purpose: To describe a standardized, xenogenic-free protocol for the manufacture of limbal epithelial stem cell grafts and a no touch surgical technique for its standardized transplantation. Setting: Antwerp University Hospital, Antwerp, Belgium. Methods: The limbo-amnion composite graft is generated by cultivating limbal epithelial stem cells on a standardized (thermolysin treated and spongy layer removed) amniotic membrane, stretched within an interlockable amnion ring. The cells are cultured in CnT-20 medium with the addition of 1% human AB serum for a period of 2 weeks. Fibrin glue is applied to the surgically prepared recipients cornea and in one fluid motion, the composite graft within the amnion ring construct is transferred from culture and positioned onto the graft bed. The required size is cut out at the level of the limbus by means of a trephine and/or microsurgical scissors. Results: The lightweight, plastic interlockable ring offered stability to the graft during culture, ...
So Ive been in this pit, worrying and trying to figure out if I should continue to blog about our journey through cancer and chemo or if enough is enough already, until last night when Daves Nana called to check on him. He had his fifth round of chemo on Monday (most of you didnt know because I didnt tell). We talked for a few minutes and she gave me the perspective I needed to resolve my wallowing two-fold. First, she told me, "I asked the kids [the ones who live near her] if you had posted anything on the Internet or whatever you do, but they said you hadnt." Nana is 90, if youll remember - it was her birthday party we missed the day after Dave had surgery. Even she is looking to the Internet for information, though she doesnt have a computer of her own. Then, when I reluctantly told her that Dave wasnt home because he was playing golf (yes, two days after chemo), she responded with laughter and, "Thats wonderful! That made my day that even though he feels bad hes playing golf ...
Its hard sometimes to know how much to share on this blog. Its a fine line between writing about issues that are relevant to people who are grieving and giving away too much about my private life and that of my family. But I wrote a book. In it, I felt it necessary to be as completely honest about difficult things, things we dont like to talk about, in order for that book to be authentic, to help others going through what I went through. I know from emails that I have received from grieving people that my honesty has been the most important aspect of my book. My honesty is what has helped others through their own difficult times ...

We have all seen the claims on blogs, in articles and on places like You Tube that running shoes weaken muscles and that is why we should not be using the big bulky motion controlling running shoes. The claims are made quite regularly and with a certain amount of assertiveness that you would have to believe that those making the claims actually have some evidence to back up the claims, but they dont.... On March 3, King Philippe of Belgium signed into law a euthanasia bill passed by lawmakers on Feb. 13. This law exposes Belgian children under the age of 18 to the possibility of being euthanized, making Belgium the first country in the world to expose children of any age to such a risk.. It is naïve to think that this law wont be abused. Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition noted that 32% of the assisted deaths are done without request, and 47% of the assisted deaths go unreported in the Flanders region of Belgium. The 2012 euthanasia statistics also show that there was a 25% increase in the number of assisted deaths in Belgium.. Medicine that inflicts death is no medicine at all. Even in the fifth century B.C., the Greek physician Hippocrates knew what medicine was and was not. His oath states: "I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick, according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice. I will neither give a deadly drug to ...

All values presented in this section are for 100 grams of Brussels sprouts, either raw or cooked (meaning boiled, drained and with added salt). As general observations go, Brussels sprouts are recommended in any diet (they are especially useful when aiming for weight loss) due to their containing extremely low amounts (virtually negligible) of cholesterol and other saturated fats. The sprouts are also an excellent source of dietary fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Vitamin K while also scoring decent points for their concentration of Potassium, Manganese, and Folate. Raw Brussels sprouts have an ideal caloric ratio - as three-quarters are represented by carbohydrates, 6 percent by fat and 19 percent is protein. The situation changes somewhat in the case of the cooked variety as the amount of fat doubles at the expense of both protein and carbs. In both cases, 100 grams of Brussels sprouts account for about 3 percent of the sugars needed to lead a healthy life, which is a first-class glycemic ...
Benefits Of Brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts belong to the Brassica family of plants and are a vegetable that bears similarity to a mini-cabbage. This mini cabbage has a diameter of about one inch and grow in bunches. Each bunch contains about 20 to 40 Brussels on the stem and the height of the plant is approximately two to three feet. When cooked perfectly Brussels sprouts have a dense, crisp texture, are bright green color and have a slightly sweet taste. They are usually added in the preparation of cold salads and also make an excellent side dish. Brussel sprouts are an extremely nourishing food and have numerous benefits to our health:. 1.Rich source of vitamin C ...
Today, the Free-Ride offspring have lots of questions. Maybe science can answer some of them.. Younger offspring: Why do the stars shine so bright?. Elder offspring: Why do snails come out on rainy days?. Younger offspring: Why does food taste so good?. Younger offspring: Why do humans think their voices are different than when you record your voice?. Elder offspring: Why does ice cream melt on Pluto?. Dr. Free-Ride: How did ice cream get on Pluto?. Younger offspring: Has anyone lived on Jupiter?. Dr. Free-Ride: I think I know the answer to that question, at least if "anyone" means terrestrial life forms like humans.. Younger offspring: I meant aliens. There might be an alien.. Dr. Free-Ride: Hmm. I think my question would be what kind of life form would you have to be for life on Jupiter to be plausible? Younger offspring: You have to bring your own water and a toilet!. Dr. Free-Ride: Well, maybe youd be a life form who didnt need water, who needed some other substance instead.. Younger ...

For those who dont eat fish or seafood, eating enough omega-3 fatty acids can be a challenge. Plant foods only contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid thats used less effectively in your body than the omega-3 fats from fish and seafood. This is because your body can only convert ALA to the more active forms of omega-3 fatty acids in limited quantities. For this reason, you would need to consume a greater amount of ALA omega-3 fatty acids to meet your daily omega-3 needs, compared to if you were getting your omega-3 fats from fish or seafood. Brussels sprouts are one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids, with 135 mg of ALA in each half-cup (78-gram) serving of cooked Brussels sprouts. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce blood triglycerides, slow cognitive decline, reduce insulin resistance and decrease inflammation. Including a few servings of Brussels sprouts in your diet each week can help you easily meet your omega-3 fatty acid needs, with a ...
1809 views. MIDDLE EAST. The Arabic-language account of Al Jazeera has been restored on Twitter after being suspended due to what the network called an organised campaign.. The account, with just under 12 million followers, was suspended for an unspecified reason early on Saturday.. Al Jazeera is the flagship broadcaster for Qatar, which is under pressure from its Gulf neighbours. They accuse the emirate of links to terror groups.. The account was restored by early afternoon Qatar time.. Twitters rules state that an account can be suspended for three main reasons: because it is posting spam, because it has been hacked or compromised, or because it engages in abusive behaviour, like sending threats to others or impersonating other accounts.. It is highly unusual for an account with as many followers, belonging to a national broadcaster, to be suspended.. A senior editor on the website wrote that there had been an on going storm of mass reporting of the account - of Twitter receiving ...

Posted on 08/16/2012 5:09:46 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY. (CNSNews.com) The Social Security Administration posted a blog on Thursday to explain why it was planning to purchase 174,000 hollow point bullets. SSA posted a Request for Quote for Ammunition on the FedBizOps.gov website on Aug. 7. The request listed the commodity that SSA desired as .357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition. The quantity listed was 174 TH. The SSA s Office of the Inspector General s said it posted a new blog on the agency s website, Beyond the Numbers, as we strive to be a transparent and accountable government organization for all of our stakeholders. With those goals in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to address recent media reports regarding the organization s purchase of ammunition for our special agents duty weapons, the blog post states. The blog states that the SSA has 295 special agents who work in 66 offices across the United States. These investigators have full law ...

Filed under: Atkins Diet - @ September 28, 2006 Our vegetarian friends over at the "Disease Proof" blog (led by Dr. Joel Fuhrman-remember my review of his "Eat To Live" book?) posted a column today entitled "Will America Ever Eat Better?" where a regular poster at the "Livin La Vida Low-Carb" blog is quoted.. In a discussion of eating a healthy diet, Gerald Pugliese from "Disease Proof" lamented that not everyone will follow Dr. Fuhrmans vegetarian diet because they dont see any value in eating vegetables.. Heres what Pugliese wrote:. "Get a load of this commenter on the low-carb blog LivinLaVidaLowCarb:. Who the hell cares about the veggies anyway? You dont need them and there is absolutely nothing essential about them. Dont let the acculturated veggie sympathizers tell you otherwise.. Pretty crazy right? Especially since even the Atkins Diet calls for the daily consumption of vegetables.. That quote from my recent blog post showing one of my weekly low-carb menus is from none other than ...
Quite what this medical attention consists of though is concerning. The blog post (dated 2013) describes how Teddy is undergoing "an extended series of acupuncture treatments." Who is giving this treatment is not clear. Nor why it is being given. Acupuncture is a pseudo-scientific form of treatment based on mystical beliefs about how bodies work. The evidence base for the success of acupuncture is woeful with rampant fraud in reporting, selective publication and poor research techniques. There is no good reason to think acupuncture can help with any condition in humans. As you might imagine, the evidence base is even poorer in rock hopper penguins.. The elderly penguin is also subjected to other unevidenced, pseudoscientific and superstitious treatments such as cold laser therapy and magnetic pulses. Cold Laser Therapy is an alternative medicine technique often used by chiropractors and acupuncturists. The acupuncturists make a point of using the laser on acupuncture points - the ...
Breast implants are used in breast augmentation to replace lost volume and improve bodily proportions. Patients have a choice of saline, standard silicone or highly cohesive silicone gel ("gummy bear") implants. There are advantages and disadvantages to all implant types; some of the factors to consider are your anatomy, your goals and your budget.. One thing many breast augmentation patients wonder regardless of implant type is how long their breast implants will last. In this blog post, Dr. Samuel N. Pearl and Dr. Alexander Ereso of the Pearl-Ereso Plastic Surgery Center discuss how long implants last and what some factors are that might cause a need for implant replacement or revision.. Breast Implant Types. Dr. Pearl and Dr. Ereso are pleased to offer both saline and silicone gel implants. Of the latter, they offer two types: NATRELLE 410 Shaped Textured implant made by Allergan and the SIENTRA Shaped Textured implant.. Saline Implants:. Pros:. ...

We have frozen this blog as a historical, yet informational view at what life is like in the West Indies Mission for all those called to serve. This blog was designed for the families and friends of those missionaries serving in the West Indies Mission from July 2006 to July 2009. Every six weeks, photos taken at zone conference as well as a new slide show including every person baptized were posted on the blog. All of the slide shows are also available on our You Tube channel. The current West Indies Mission blog can be found here. Posts on our missionary experience can be found here and earlier. And finally, if you are a returned missionary who served in the West Indies, there is a current blog for you. Click here or visit [email protected] ...

Beyond Pesticides, February 8, 2011) Research published February 7, 2011 in the online edition of the journal Peditatrics shows that children more highly exposed to pyrethroid insecticides and piperonyl butoxide (PBO), a synergist added to increase the potency of pyrethroids, are three times as likely to have a mental delay compared to children with lower levels. The study, "Impact of Prenatal Exposure to Piperonyl Butoxide and Permethrin on 36-Month Neurodevelopment," measured exposure to pesticides using maternal and umbilical cord plasma samples and in personal air samples, collected using backpack air monitors during pregnancy. Children were then tested for cognitive and motor development (using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development) at three years of age. Children with the highest prenatal exposures scored about 4 points lower on the test.. Thats about the same intelligence loss caused by lead, Philip Landrigan, MD, a pediatrics professor and environmental health expert at New Yorks ...
The main pesticide at issue in this case is myclobutanil or Eagle 20, which is the same product that led to tens thousands of plants being quarantined last spring after testing positive for the fungicide during a routine inspection by the Denver Department of Environmental Health. Growers claim that without the fungicide their plants are endangered. The 40-page lawsuit claims that myclobutanil, when heated, breaks down to "poisonous hydrogen cyanide" and alleges that consumers who smoke marijuana treated with Eagle 20 ingest the gas." While neither plaintiff alleges they were sickened from ingesting the marijuana they purchased at LivWell, both claim they would not have inhaled the product if they had known it was treated with Eagle 20.. The lawsuit is the first of its kind to be filed against a marijuana company over pesticide use and highlights the ongoing debate in Colorado over what pesticides are safe to use on marijuana. For months, city and state officials, as well as growers and ...

Actinic keratoses are premalignant skin conditions. Solar ultraviolet radiation exposure plays an important role in the ethipathogenesis of actinic keratoses, as well as tar and various chemical compounds such as arsenis and arsenites. The mucosal correspondent of actinic keratoses is actinic cheilitis, a disease bearing increased potential of malignant transformation. Actinic keratoses may transform into squamous cell carcinoma within decades, while for actinic cheilitis the period of time may not exceed a few years. Recent advances in the field of dermatology have established the efficacity and safety of the use of diclofenac as topical agent for the treatment of actinic keratoses. It seems that topical applications of 3% diclofenac gel b.i.d for 3 months may lead to the dissapearance of lesions. Total lesion clearance after topical 3% diclofenac gel is as high as 79% as assessed by the latest studies. Partial remission counts for 3/4 in the rest of the lesions treated.. ...

Womens hair loss is a complex condition with numerous causes. The intricate nature of womens hair loss further emphasizes the need for a hair loss specialist with specialized knowledge. Dr. Edmond Griffin can help you determine what type of hair loss you are experiencing and suggest a proper treatment plan based on your symptoms. In previous blog posts, weve explained who to turn to when hair begins to thin and tests that determine your hair loss cause. There may be a combination of variables contributing to your specific hair loss condition; therefore, it may be helpful to have a basic understanding of most common types/causes of hair loss:. • Androgenetic Alopecia: Androgenetic alopecia, also called female patterned baldness, is by far the most common cause of hair loss seen at the Griffin Center. This hereditary alopecia is caused by a predisposition to the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on the hair follicles due to an inherited gene. A positive family history of baldness in either ...
The abnormal readings that predict cervical cancer are called cervical dysplasia, meaning that the cells of the cervix have been altered by the presence of HPV. These readings can be either LGSIL (low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions) or HGSIL (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions). The higher the grade, the more abnormal the cells, and the closer to cancer it is. However, these LGSIL and HGSIL do not mean that cancer is present, only that abnormalities are present that may lead to cancer. When a pap test shows LGSIL or HGSIL, this means that HPV is definitely present, so there is no need to do a specific HPV test. (More on abnormal Pap testing in a later blog post ...

As weve covered in the past - mental health insurance coverage is extremely poor in the US; with many people left uncovered at all or very low maximums (in terms of dollar amounts spent on mental health) that results in family bankruptcies and great financial insecurity.. With this in mind, the news that the US Senate has passed a new bill mandating mental health parity provides some hope that things will get better for the mentally ill, and the families of the mentally ill in the future.. The Washington Post notes: The bill, which passed by unanimous consent, moves advocates one step closer in their years-long quest for a concept known as mental health parity.. "The passage tonight of the Mental Health Parity bill underscores our commitment to treat all patients facing all diseases with the dignity and respect they deserve," said Sen. Edward Kennedy, Democrat-Massachusetts. "This new legislation will bring dramatic new help to millions of Americans who today are denied needed mental health ...

Here are the important points that Anonymous must prove to support such a conclusion: how would nuclear-produced electricity make obsolete the oil and gas industry, given that oil provides transportation fuels for cars, trucks, ships, aircraft, and trains, plus lubricants, asphalts, and petrochemical feedstocks, and natural gas provides critical feedstock for agricultural and petrochemical production? That thorium nuclear-produced electricity must indeed be novel, even Nobel-Prize worthy stuff. Also, coal has many non-electricity uses, but perhaps Anonymous is not aware of such things, or he has a plan for substituting his thorium nuclear-produced electricity for those services. Here is a partial summary of non-electricity uses of ...
10 week gestational age molar pregnancy. An echogenic mass in the uterus filled with multiple cystic structures. The patient had a betaHCG of 30000 and no other symptoms other than mild vaginal bleeding. Her previous pregnancies were unremarkable and the current one was a bit of a surprise.. I felt the imaging was consistent with an early molar pregnancy and obtained a comprehensive ultrasound from the radiology department. The report described thickened inhomogeneous appearing soft tissue material within the region of the central canal with a few scattered cystic regions. A portion of debris material possibly on the basis of clots. Opinion was possible retained products of conception on basis of a recent spontaneous miscarriage but essentially nonspecific and ectopic cant be ruled out. No mention of molar pregnancy.. Despite the lack of typical clinical symptoms I thought the ultrasound image concerning enough to get an OB-GYNE consult. The attending agreed that it looked like a molar ...
