Overactivity of the cells in this area has been suspected to contribute to the positive symptoms of SCHIZOPHRENIA.Tegmentum Mesencephali: Portion of midbrain situated under the dorsal TECTUM MESENCEPHALI. The two ventrolateral cylindrical masses or peduncles are large nerve fiber bundles providing a tract of passage between the FOREBRAIN with the HINDBRAIN. Their purpose is to receive, conduct, and transmit impulses in the NERVOUS SYSTEM.Self Administration: Administration of a drug or chemical by the individual under the direction of a physician. It includes administration clinically or experimentally, by human or animal.Quinpirole: A dopamine D2/D3 receptor agonist.Microinjections: The injection of very small amounts of fluid, often with the aid of a microscope and microsyringes.Dopamine Antagonists: Drugs that bind to but do not activate DOPAMINE RECEPTORS, thereby blocking the actions of dopamine or exogenous agonists.
