You are correct in your assessment of the original G series of Gatorade. It is hard to find sometimes with the low calorie low sugar craze and I found out the painful way that G2 isnt the same Gatorade Im used to. This version is the lower calorie one. I drink the original version of Gatorade specifically because it has the traditional sugars used to sweeten soft drinks and no artificial sweeteners. I am not using artificial sweeteners in the strict sense but rather to mean things that are not actual sugars and those include food additives etc. I do not tolerate Sucralose (the only artificial sweetener allowed to end in ose for some reason), aspartame, saccharine, or even stevia power even though I can drink tea made from stevia leaves. A vast array of consumer protection requirements mandate licenses, certifications, inspections, and the like for the businesses that sell us goods and services. Those regulations may once have made sense but - thanks to the Internet - increasingly they do not. Its time for them to go. Barbers, manicurists, and cosmetologists have to be licensed. So do plumbers and roofers. Restaurants are inspected. Lawyers have to pass a bar exam. Real estate appraisers must be registered. Taxicabs have medallions. The list goes on and on, touching on almost every facet of our daily economic lives. And, for the most part, all these requirements are an enormous waste. They dont provide consumers with much in the way of protection. And they come at a considerable cost.

To identify molecules that could enhance sweetness perception, we undertook the screening of a compound library using a cell-based assay for the human sweet taste receptor and a panel of selected sweeteners. In one of these screens we found a hit, SE-1, which significantly enhanced the activity of sucralose in the assay. At 50 microM, SE-1 increased the sucralose potency by |20-fold. On the other hand, SE-1 exhibited little or no agonist activity on its own. SE-1 effects were strikingly selective for sucralose. Other popular sweeteners such as aspartame, cyclamate, and saccharin were not enhanced by SE-1 whereas sucrose and neotame potency were increased only by 1.3- to 2.5-fold at 50 microM. Further assay-guided chemical optimization of the initial hit SE-1 led to the discovery of SE-2 and SE-3, selective enhancers of sucralose and sucrose, respectively. Scientists at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, studied rats that were fed food with the artificial sweetener saccharin and rats fed food with glucose, a natural sugar. In comparison to rats given yogurt sweetened with glucose, those that ate yogurt sweetened with saccharin went on to consume more calories and put on more weight and body fat. The researchers said sweet foods may prompt the body to get ready to take in a lot of calories, but when sweetness in the form of artificial sweeteners is not followed by a large amount of calories, the body gets confused, which may lead to eating more or expending less energy than normal. The amount of sugar listed on a nutrition label doesnt distinguish between naturally occurring sugars (lactose in milk/ yogurt or fructose in fruit) and ADDED sugar like high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar, splenda…etc.. I personally think this needs to change ASAP! People dont understand grams and stuff on labels but they will certainly understand there is ADDED sugar if I says it right on the label-just saying!. No one owns Stevia, its just a plant - its hard for me to see one of the small stevia sweetener companies growing dramatically in the US when the main competition is the hugely marketed Truvia, also derived (in part) from Stevia. I wouldnt want to be one of the stevia product companies and try to compete against Cargill and Coke, who are behind Truvia. Truvia is already a huge part of the US non-sugar sweetener market, I think theyre in second place behind Splenda now (Pepsi has their own Stevia sweetener, too, dont remember the name).. Could be some winners, of course, but be careful - mostly what I hear about are stevia suppliers, the farms that grow the actual plant (or intend to grow it) or the seed companies that sell the seeds for stevia. This is something weve known about and mentioned a while back, but when it comes to BPA, sometimes, it just bears repeating. Yes, there is BPA in those soft drink cans you may have been chugging. Energy drinks, sodas, those cans of Ensure you might be downing in place of a meal, all cans are coated with the resin that contains BPA in order to reduce aluminum exposure and also to help preserve the beverage. Even if you find a BPA free can, theres still aluminium to contend with, so whats worse?. Well for one, diet colas have phosphoric acid, along with aspartame, neither of which are good for you anyway (I sound like your mother, dont I?). Regular colas have high fructose corn syrup. Once in a while, these arent horrible for you. It wont kill you, but if youre a habitual soda drinker, it may be time to think about switching over to bottles, which are in a safer plastic (look for recycling #s 1,2,4 or 5, and avoid plastics with the recycling code #3, 6 or 7).. ...

The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the preference of chocolate milk products sweetened with sucrose and stevia by pre- and post-menopausal women and to examine their concerns about bone health. Women panelists were divided into two groups according to age: pre- menopausal (from 18 to 47 years old) and post-menopausal (over 48 years old) and answered the frequency of white and chocolate milk consumption during a week and their concerns about bone health.
