The Spann-Fischer Codependency Scale is a 16-item self-report instrument used to define and measure co-dependency in order to operationalize it as a personality disorder. Individual items are rated on a 6-point Likert scale, and then summed with two reversed items to describe co-dependency on a scale from a high of 96 to a low of 16. Scores on the codependency scale distinguished known groups; furthermore, scores correlated as expected with intrapersonal measures as well as interpersonal perceptions of parenting in the family of origin. Its creators are Judith L. Fischer PhD and Lynda Spann MS, both from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University. In a series of studies, Fischer, Spann, and Crawford (1991); Fischer and Crawford (1992); and Fischer, Wampler, Lyness, and Thomas (1992) defined co-dependency as a dysfunctional pattern of relating to others with "an extreme focus outside oneself, lack of open expression of feelings, and ...

The dance of codependency and narcissism begins when two opposite, distinctly off-balance behavior patterns, attract one another. At first, it seems a perfect union. Love Addict has difficulty with symptoms of codependency, then chooses addictive behaviors and internal process to compensate. A Love Addict seeks to enmesh, to blend into another person. Underneath all of this is both a fear of abandonment and a fear of healthy intimacy, even if they pretend to look for it.When codependent corrects behavior, they can manage their life. The term (and notion) "ethnocentrism" is not universally known, but a lot of people understand the general idea - judging a foreign culture by the standards of ones own. The opposite, cultural relativism, seeks to understand cultures in their own terms, rather in the terms of others. Cultural relativism, of one sort or another, is at the heart of much of modern cultural anthropology. Theres actually a good deal wrong with cultural relativism, especially, as a blanket methodology, and it has its critics. Ill hold off on the critique for another time. Whilst cultural relativism is not all good, its not all bad either. Theres a great many "-centrisms" I should explore over time here - all of them pernicious - but Ill stick with chronocentrism today.. Chronocentrism is a little like ethnocentrism, especially if you think of "the past as a foreign land," and may also be combined with genuine ethnocentrism. But it is distinguishable. Chronocentrism, in simple terms, is the mistake of believing ...
This is where the codependent primary problem of low self-esteem comes in. With a delicate self, codependents are scared of being rejected and desertion, but on the other hand, they fear dropping themselves when they get connected in a relationship. They usually provide up their needs to provide their associate, sometimes allowing go of outside buddies and actions they used have fun with, and even when the relationship is not operating, they are trapped like adhesive. So many codependents are not even in connections, as opposed to typical perception, because they are scared of dropping their freedom, which you do not really reduce in a proper and balanced interdependent relationship ...
The personality of the psychopath - the "personality" the sufferer is connection with - does not really are available. It is developed on can be found, properly weaved together to entrap the sufferer. It is a cover up, one of many, custom-made by the psychopath to fit the people particular psychological needs and objectives. The victimization is aggressive in nature; it often outcomes in serious economical, actual or emotional damage for the person. Healthier, actual connections are developed on typical regard and trust; they are depending on discussing sincere emotions and ideas. The people incorrect perception that the psychopathic connection has any of these features is the purpose it is so efficient ...
For the growing minority of non-Jews living in Israel, a sense of belonging can be impossible to achieve. Just recently, former MK Michael Kleiner described non-Jewish immigrants to Israel as dirty water. He applied the metaphor to Russian immigrants, but his racist statement was also aimed at me. The only difference is that Im the dirty water that slopped in from England, not Russia. Kleiners comments are not unusual in Israel. For years now Ive been listening to politicians, public officials, even ordinary people spilling out bile toward the non-Jewish citizens of the country. Living in Israel as a gentile is not an easy experience. There is always someone out there to remind you that not only do you not belong, but that in some way you are polluting the purity of the country. During my early years in Israel, the first question people asked me was whether or not I was Jewish. It was like an obsession. In taxicabs, at bus stops, at interviews, at work, even in the supermarket, the question ...

1. Codependence as a Concept:. Those who identify with the adult child syndrome-that is, were brought up in a dysfunctional, alcoholic, or abusive home-of-origin and suffer from arrested development-often are also afflicted with a disease known as "codependence." What does it have to do with the fundamental syndrome and what is it to begin with?. The understanding of a concept can often be augmented with comparisons, which increase the clarity of one when discussed in relation to the other. In this case, oddly, it can be achieved with the field of astronomy and what is known as a binary star.. Consisting of two identical stars, each locks on to the others gravity and perpetually orbits the other until one or the other ultimately dies out. They can be considered "codependent," because they look toward the other and therefore rely on it for their existence. They are not independent.. Adult children may, at times, engage in their own binary star symbiosis with people. But why?. 2. Origin of the ...

Almost 12 years ago, an evolutionary theory based on intergenerational telomere erosion was introduced [8] and was widely covered by the press [11, 12]. In 2011, based on published data on human telomere length inheritance, I refined my theoretical framework and located the source of human intergenerational telomere erosion in the female germline [6, 7, 10]. According to this model, telomeres in the testes of elderly males are longer than those in young males because the seniors are members of a previous generation (=birth-cohort effect) and therefore skipped, on average, one female-based intergenerational telomere loss. In 2014, I further developed the model of telomere-driven macroevolution and presented a complete biological framework for the old European model of saltatory evolution of nonadaptive characters [6].. In agreement with this theoretical model, a high-profile study, published in the August issue of Aging Cell in 2015, finally confirmed the long-awaited birth-cohort effect on ...
Daniel S. Schechter (born 1962 in Miami, Florida) is an American psychiatrist known for his clinical work and research on intergenerational transmission or "communication" of violent trauma and related psychopathology involving parents and very young children. His published work in this area following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York of September 11, 2001 led to a co-edited book entitled "September 11: Trauma and Human Bonds" (2003) and additional original articles with clinical psychologist Susan Coates that were translated into multiple languages and remain among the very first accounts of 9/11 related loss and trauma described by mental health professionals who also experienced the attacks and their aftermath Schechter observed that separation anxiety among infants and young children who had either lost or feared loss of their caregivers triggered posttraumatic stress symptoms in the surviving caregivers. The aims of the seminar are to review the state of the field of African population history, to consider the role of the past for understanding the present, and to facilitate partnerships and future comparative work on African historical demography.. There is a resurgence of interest in Africas demographic pasts. Evidence on past population trends is essential to respond to core questions in African history, such as the human cost of the slave trade; the impacts of colonialism on health, wellbeing and the family; the effects of post-colonial policies on households and livelihoods; long-term trends in mortality and migration; and the influence of religion, education and employment on intergenerational relations and the social organisation of reproduction. Improving the evidence on Africas past populations will illuminate how people have managed their resilience and reproduction over ...

Ive spent the majority of my life trying to please people. Its in my dna or something. Im like my dad whos always trying to carry your groceries up the stairs or fix that leaky faucet. Do you need a foot rub? Let me get some lotion… Its not that Im entirely selfless but that I truly get more happiness from making someone else happy than I do from making myself happy. And sometimes when Im really happy, I catch myself looking around to make sure everyone else is really happy too. One sad person can ruin it for me.. You know that feeling when you throw a party and youre so worried about your friends getting along that you cant sit down and enjoy their company yourself because youre too afraid that shy-wallflower-friend-number-three will never feel at ease with crazy-loud-outspoken-friend-number-four? Its a kind of sickness. Codependency or something. Im not really sure.. This is not really related to anything but I bring it up because I worried a lot about the pictures of my niece ...

The present 3-wave, 3-year longitudinal study examined direct and indirect associations between marital quality, parenting, and adolescent internalizing problems, taking into account bidirectional associations between these concepts. Data were used from 428 Dutch families, consisting of 2 biological parents and 2 adolescents with mean ages of 13.4 and 15.2 years (at Time 1). Results from structural equation modeling analyses showed that low marital quality at Time 1 was directly related to adolescent internalizing problems at Time 2 in oldest siblings. However, support was not found for any indirect associations through parenting or for longitudinal associations from adolescent internalizing problems to parents marital quality. Results are discussed in terms of implications for understanding the mechanism by which marital quality is related to adolescent internalizing problems ...

The story is somewhat similar for oxytocin: too much of a good thing can be bad. Recent studies on party drugs such as MDMA and GHB shows that oxytocin may be the hormone behind the feel-good, sociable effects these chemicals produce. These positive feelings are taken to an extreme in this case, causing the user to dissociate from his or her environment and act wildly and recklessly. Furthermore, oxytocins role as a "bonding" hormone appears to help reinforce the positive feelings we already feel towards the people we love. That is, as we become more attached to our families, friends, and significant others, oxytocin is working in the background, reminding us why we like these people and increasing our affection for them. While this may be a good things for monogamy, such associations are not always positive. For example, oxytocin has also been suggested to play a role in ethnocentrism, increasing our love for people in our already-established cultural groups and making those unlike us seem ...

Although there is a robust finding documenting the efficacy of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in treating anxiety, a significant proportion of clients fail to respond optimally to treatment. A major focus of psychotherapy research involves client-treatment matching, which examines client characteristics as potential predictors of treatment response. Client ambivalence has been identified as a key marker in psychotherapy with wide-ranging implications for engagement in therapy. Motivational Interviewing (MI) has strong empirical support for increasing client commitment for change through the resolution of ambivalence. Though it may be speculated that integrating MI into CBT may be more efficacious for clients high in ambivalence than CBT alone, the investigation of these critical client-treatment matching research questions has been hampered by inadequate measures of ambivalence. This study sought to examine this question in the context of CBT alone versus MI-CBT for 85 clients with severe ...

This is a matter under pending litigation in the Vernon County Circuit Court," says Deputy Chief of Staff Loree Anne Paradise. "The Attorney Generals office is aware and monitoring it, but we do not anticipate intervening at this time.". The jail, its jailers, and the Sheriff are being sued for allegedly staging inmate fight nights. Dustin Dunfield, who represents prisoner Alexander Trexel, tells Joplin TV station KODE his client is scared for his well-being.. "When he tells them theyre going to fight, they feel they have no choice," says Dunfield.. The court affidavit says jailers are "not only aware of the situation, but are active participants.". Trexel says he sustained physical injuries from the fights including one requiring stitches above his right eye.. "Hes reported to me that at least nine times, he been made to take part in whats called fight night," Dunfield continues. Inhalants affect your brain. Inhalants are substances or fumes from products such as glue or paint thinner that are sniffed or "huffed" to cause an immediate high. Because they affect your brain with much greater speed and force than many other substances, they can cause irreversible physical and mental damage before you know whats happened.. Inhalants affect your heart. Inhalants starve the body of oxygen and force the heart to beat irregularly and more rapidly--that can be dangerous for your body.. Inhalants damage other parts of your body. People who use inhalants can lose their sense of smell; experience nausea and nosebleeds; and develop liver, lung, and kidney problems. Chronic use can lead to muscle wasting and reduced muscle tone and strength.. Inhalants can cause sudden death. Inhalants can kill you instantly. Inhalant users can die by suffocation, choking on their vomit, or having a heart attack.. Some long term abuse of inhalants can result in serious harm to vital organs in the ...
The results of this study may not represent the true prevalence of substance misuse among our patient population because only patients attending the outpatient department were included. Thus, less compliant patients, who may be more likely to use illicit substances, may have been excluded. It must also be noted that the relatively modest sample size leaves this study open to the possibility of type II errors. In a sample this size a 10% difference between cases and controls is required to demonstrate a significant difference in terms of prevalence of usage of a substance. Only two sources of information were used to obtain the prevalence of substance misuse in our study: history and urinalysis. Those with schizophrenia tend to underreport their consumption of alcohol and illicit substances (Safer, 1987). A combination of methods has been reported as a more effective screening procedure than the use of a single source of information (Drake et al, 1993). Thorough history taking and blood or urine ...

Loneliness is not a surprising by-product of widowhood. I mean, even for the people who have never been through it, its a no-brainer. But frankly, I think that lonely is not a strong enough word.. There is a deep silence that comes with losing your spouse. And it doesnt matter if youre standing in the middle of a crowded room, you will still notice it. Its the quiet that comes when you dont have that familiar voice whispering in your ear at a wedding, "Can you believe she wore that? I mean, what was she thinking?" Its the missing sound of two glasses clinking together on your anniversary. Its the absence of someone breathing soundly next to you as you go to sleep at night.. Our friends are so good about trying to make sure that we know that were not alone. And we know were not friendless. We could call up any number of people if we just wanted to hang out. But we are alone. Our marriages were amputated in the prime of our lives and, for some of us, there is no prosthesis.. A lot of us, ...

He acted like he had never heard of people huffing duster and asked me how its done. I did persist in having some medical tests done because Im very concerned about long term damage (which is ironic since i could die any night and there would be no long term to worry about..lol). But, i had an ekg which was ok. My lung capacity test failed. My liver functions are elevated. Critically low vit d & iron .. and Im anemic. Thats everything - short of having a brain scan. So of course I would classify myself as the creative type, possibly a diva!. But like most of us life got in the way, and it was hard to keep up with my crafting. And as I got older I found myself not doing much more than making Holiday cards and cookies! Then about 14 years ago, after a tragic event in our family, once again I had this sudden urgent creative itch, which ran deep.. At first this resulted in the medium of painting;. However, it didnt take me long to realize I would never be Renoir or Van Gough. I can barley draw a line, let alone a circle. No, I was painting pots. You know, the red clay ones you buy at the garden store. I bought a few, went to the art store, stocked up on color and started painting away; which only resulted in a bunch of pots in my house that reminded me of my 5th grade art class. The passion was there but I needed more authenticity in its expression.. It didnt take me long to realize that I should be building the pots I was going to paint, not buying them. I ...

CONNERSVILLE) - State police say two eastern Indiana county jail inmates died from overdoses of a powerful synthetic drug.. State police began investigating after two Connersville men 37-year-old Chad Sizemore and 30-year-old Thomas Lohr were pronounced dead early June 6 in the Fayette County Jail.. Police say toxicology tests found that Sizemore and Lohr died from acute carfentanil intoxication. Carfentanil is an opioid used to tranquilize elephants and is considered 1,000 times more powerful than morphine.. Sizemore was booked into the jail about an hour before he, Lohr and a third man were found unresponsive inside a cell. Police say the third man was hospitalized and recovered.. State police Sgt. John Bowling says investigators believe Sizemore smuggled the drug into the jail in a body cavity.. ...

In October of 2017, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was pardoned for his crimes. In July, Sheriff Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt on the grounds of ignoring a federal judges order. The order stemmed from a lawsuit taken out on him in 2007.. Sheriff Arpaio is known for the outrageously draconian circumstances that happened under his authority. For example, in 1993, a tent city opened up to address the problem of overcrowded jails. In these jails inmates were beaten and mothers-to-be were shackled to beds.. There were a lot of wrongful deaths that happened happened in jail under his authority. For instance, a diabetic woman died as she went into a coma after being denied medication. A number of people suffocated when they were put into restraint chairs. There was also a large rate of apparent suicides by hanging in the cells. English: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Chlorophyll is a bluetoned green creme, pretty similar to China Glaze Four Leaf Clover. The formula was nice, though I dont really get along with the OCC brushes. Theyre too long and too soft, which makes application a bit challenging for me. A funny thing with Chlorophyll is that it dries semi matte, as if theres some neon pigment in there. But the color is really quite far from being neon. So if you want your nails to be shiny a top coat is a must. ...
Three waves of data were collected, in addition to detailed information about program group members participation and engagement in SHM services. The first wave of data was collected when families first enrolled in the SHM study, just prior to being randomly assigned. Husbands and wives were asked to complete a set of baseline instruments that capture socio-demographic and other characteristics such as employment, education, household composition, marital quality and satisfaction, and prior life experiences. The second wave of data was collected approximately 12 months after families first entered the study, through an adult follow-up survey and an observational study. All husbands and wives were asked to complete a follow-up survey (10,181 respondents). The survey includes measures of household composition, marital stability, marital quality, parental psychological well-being, parental employment and economic outcomes, material and financial hardship, social support and networks, coparenting ...

Ambivalence was first a psychological term, literally meaning strength on both sides. Paul Eugen Bleuler, the psychologist who coined it in 1910, also coined the terms schizophrenia (a splitting of the mind) and autism (from Greek autos, self). Originally coined by Swiss psychologist Paul Eugen Bleuler in 1910, ambivalence as a psychological term means much the same…
Sarkeesian, interested in exploring tropes in video games throughout history, launched a Kickstarter campaign entitled "Tropes vs. Women in Video Games" with the goal of exploring "five common and recurring stereotypes of female characters in video games" in a video series dubbed Feminist Frequency. Sarkeesians initial goal of six thousand dollars was exceeded by roughly 153 thousand bucks. The series saw an outpouring of supporters matched by an equal number of haters. No surprise there. The initial series included five videos which explore the Damsel in Distress trope, among others. What ensued was an onslaught of "digital stoning," a term penned by Cliff Bleszinski in his article, "If Video Games Are Going to Grow Up, Then the Bullying Needs to Stop." Post-release of her series, a flash game was created by an internet bully in which you can digitally beat Sarkeesians face into a bruised and bloody pulp.
