PatientsLikeMe: Consumer health vocabulary as a folksonomy. (1/75)

PatientsLikeMe is an online social networking community. Subcommunities center on three diagnoses: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsons Disease. Community members can describe their symptoms online in natural language, resulting in folksonomic tags available for clinical analysis and for browsing by other users to find patients like me. Forty-three percent of PatientsLikeMe symptom terms are present as exact (24%) or synonymous (19%) terms in the Unified Medical Language System Metathesaurus (National Library of Medicine; 2007AC). Slightly more than half of the symptom terms either do not match the UMLS, or are unclassifiable. A clinical vocabulary, SNOMED CT, accounts for 93% of the matching terms. Analysis of the failed matches reveals challenges for online patient communication, not only with healthcare professionals, but with other patients. In a Web 2.0 environment with lowered barriers between consumers and professionals, a deficiency in knowledge representation affects not only professionals, but consumers as well.  (+info)

How the Social Web Supports patient experimentation with a new therapy: The demand for patient-controlled and patient-centered informatics. (2/75)

The Internet is not simply being used to search for information about disease and treatment. It is also being used by online disease-focused communities to organize their own experience base and to harness their own talent and insight in service to the cause of achieving better health outcomes. We describe how news of a possible effect of lithium on the course of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) was acquired by and diffused through an on-line community and led to participation in a patient-driven observational study of lithium and ALS. Our discussion suggests how the social web drives demand for patient-centered health informatics.  (+info)

A scientific collaboration tool built on the facebook platform. (3/75)

We describe an application ("Medline Publications")written for the Facebook platform that allows users to maintain and publish a list of their own Medline-indexed publications, as well as easily access their contacts lists. The system is semi-automatic in that it interfaces directly with the National Library of Medicine's PubMed database to find and retrieve citation data. Furthermore, the system has the capability to present the user with sets of other users with similar publication profiles. As of July 2008,Medline Publications has attracted approximately 759 users, 624 of which have listed a total of 5,193 unique publications.  (+info)

Web 2.0 and pharmacy education. (7/75)

New types of social Internet applications (often referred to as Web 2.0) are becoming increasingly popular within higher education environments. Although developed primarily for entertainment and social communication within the general population, applications such as blogs, social video sites, and virtual worlds are being adopted by higher education institutions. These newer applications differ from standard Web sites in that they involve the users in creating and distributing information, hence effectively changing how the Web is used for knowledge generation and dispersion. Although Web 2.0 applications offer exciting new ways to teach, they should not be the core of instructional planning, but rather selected only after learning objectives and instructional strategies have been identified. This paper provides an overview of prominent Web 2.0 applications, explains how they are being used within education environments, and elaborates on some of the potential opportunities and challenges that these applications present.  (+info)

Blogging gained its momentum when blogging systems such as Blogspot were introduced to the general public. Ever since, the blogging has increased to consist of a wide variety of formats consisting of RSS feeds as well as instant news readers.. While I advocate blogging for marketing purposes, the truth is that its a lot more valuable than just that. Ive found over the years that while I do indeed get a lot of benefits business-wise from blogging, the main benefits are personal.. Blogging is therapeutic. It really is.. Id compare blogging to journaling, and this comparison is obvious in some ways. Blogging was originally born out of journaling. But the act of journaling has been a tried and true practice for building a successful life for generations. We seem to have forgotten that. We seem to have forgotten where blogging came from.. Its not some damn new marketing tactic. Its actually not new at all. Its old. Really old. Its been going on for as long as pen and paper have been readily accessible.. Success gurus like Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy…gosh I dont know…everyone…have been talking about the value of journaling forever. This isnt a coincidence. Bottom line: it makes you better at what you do. And thats ...

Six Apart offer three platforms: MT, TypePad, and Vox. There is no TypePad counterpart to MT Pro (although there is something called TypePad Pro). Vox is, and has been from the start, a social blogging platform, with its content and connection features sharing top billing.. While Six Apart offer three platforms, Automattic offer one: WordPress. While Six Aparts MT Pro moves social networking up alongside blogging, Automattics BuddyPress moves social networking up in front of blogging: BuddyPress will move the main focus of WordPress MU away from blogs, and onto the actual member profile.. While MT Pro includes forums, BuddyPress doesnt. Thats not because Automattic consider forums unimportant; its because they offer specialized forum software: bbPress.. Now to try and summarize the different ways in which the two blogging firms are increasing emphasis on connection. Six Apart offer social blogging in two forms: MT Pro for the enterprise, and Vox for the individual. Automattic offers ...
And that is when, you realise that if he or she is the one for you or not, if you can stay with a person like that for your whole life or not. Of course lah, by that time both of you wouldnt be hesitate to fart in front of each other already.. In conclusion, dont get married too fast. =P. ----------------------------------------. Well, the thing I didnt know that is the same theory is applied to blogging. After this month, Im officially blogging for one year already. Its sad to say this but, be frank, I have already lost my passion for blogging already.. I used to blog daily, but now, I skip blogging more and more, my entries are getting shorter and shorter, and boring stuffs in my blog are getting more and more.. I thought that its because Im busy these days. Then I think about it again, yes, Im really busy these days. I have done a lot of things, moved to a new place, and a lot of things are still coming for me. But wait, do I really busy until I cant spare a little time out for ...
Writing short micro-focused blog posts can have a huge impact on your readers. Sometimes it simply doesnt take many words to get your point across. If you can condense your thoughts into what is fundamental, your blog posts will be easier to read, carry more weight, and probably even get more readers.. The reason you may want to write shorter, more focused blog posts is that they are easier to scan. Youll also have more room for graphics, bullet points, and even advertisements without cluttering up your blog.. * Research and outline - To write shorter blog posts that impact your audience, be sure to do all your research ahead of time. Part of the fun of writing a short blog post is that you can do it in three minutes before you run an errand.. * Set a word count - If you set a specific word count for your short blog posts, youll be more likely to trim the blog post of unneeded words. It really is an art form to be able to explain something clearly in fewer words.. * Repurpose old posts - Take ...
Blogging is an ever-changing phenomenon and I am constantly seeing posts on how the industry and peoples feelings towards blogging has changed, negatively. I wanted to shake things up and discuss both the good and the bad superficially. There are some truly shitty things that can happen in the blogging industry, but there are also some great things. These five best and worst things about blogging are simply m opinions and are most likely beauty blog-specific. My intention is not to offend or upset anyone. I hope you enjoy this post and please share your own thoughts in the comments. It would mean a great deal to me ...

Every blogging shortcut you attempt leads to long term headaches. Shortcuts do not exist. Maybe ego convinces you a short, quick route to success can be found but every attempt leads to long headaches. For example, imagine believing publishing short, value-less comments on 1000 blogs daily boosts your online profits. Your ego deduces this sweet short cut gives you massive exposure which boosts your blogging profits quickly and easily. But shortcuts never exist. You just set yourself up to experience long headaches. Why? Bloggers label your hasty comments as spam. Going forward, every single comment you publish - even legit comments 2-3 paragraphs long - lands in spam, meaning barely anyone ever sees your comments again. Talk about a long, hard, painful headache to experience. Nobody sees your comments. How can you network? How can you make friends? Plus, even if bloggers see your spam comments in their backoffice, bloggers avoid you like the plague, being turned off by your spammy, relationship
Remember the good old days when people were writing about the death of blogging thanks to social media tools? When they wrote, rather prolifically, about how Google Plus, Tumblr, LinkedIns Pulse, Facebooks Notes, Medium and a whole bunch of other platforms were just going to kill our own ability to have a personal Web Journal of sorts where we would be able to host our own thoughts, have conversations, learn and overall build, over time, strong online communities about topics we were all passionate about and that we would keep on writing about for years to come? Well, 21 years later, blogging is still alive and kicking, thank you very much! And on October 10th, 2015, I just made it through my 10th year blogiversary for http://elsua.net. Who knew… The Death of Blogging? Hummm, I dont think so!. Thing is this is not the first time I write about this very same topic, and Im pretty sure it wont be the last one either. Its also not the first time I share across the many benefits as to why ...

PART ONE - personal blogging. My experience of blogging is long on the Internet timescale-just over two years. I am not young or frivolous, I have a demanding professional job, Im a parent and a commuter, so I am always horrendously busy. Yet for those two years I have managed to quarry an hour or so in the evening to read blogs and, most nights, to write a post myself. Why, when I could be doing something more useful?. The answer, in my case, is simple. I am, like many of us, too busy for anything else. I have neither the time nor the energy to socialise in the evenings, and in any case want to see my children occasionally. I would like to have stimulating discourse with friends or like-minded people, and to find out and discuss new ideas and concepts. Before blogging, these aims seemed impossible to achieve. I dont want to spend what little leisure time I have passively sitting in front of a TV screen (somebody else deciding what information I receive), or asleep over an open book, which ...

Not all of such entries will certainly apply to every person blogging situation, but they all apply at corporate blogs in general. From the tender you have all of them, corporate blog benefits and best practices… by A to Z. In charge Accountability is true of corporate blogs in two primary ways. Microblogging services such as Twitter are extremely popular. While they are commonly used by people who wish to reveal their names and friends to the world, some users, such as activists on the ground, may wish to be able to post without automatically revealing their identities or locations. An obvious approach is to use a low-latency anonymity system, such as Tor. However, low-latency systems fall prey to end-to-end timing attacks easily accomplished by an ISP or a government monitoring clients while also watching for posts to appear in real time on the microblogging site.. We present Ibis, a high-latency mix network designed specifically for microblogging. Ibis is an overlay network: the mix nodes can be microblogging clients that come online only sporadicly, and the intermediate encrypted messages are themselves posted as microblogged entries. We accomplish this through a novel cryptographic mix message format that uses only 47 bytes of overhead, while maintaining three-hop, 128-bit security ...

Why do they get so much attention? How do they keep producing such awesome blog posts? Why cant I do the same?. These questions used to bug me.. But as it turns out, theres no genius to it. In fact, writing a great blog post is more formulaic than it is artistic.. Its not about being innovative, creative and making something unique.. Quite the opposite.. Writing a killer blog post is about understanding the different elements - that when combined add up to something special. Taking what others have already figured out, and packaging it up in a way that captures your own personal touch.. You are just as qualified as anyone else to do it - you just need to get your hands dirty.. Ill save you some time though…. Regeneration: Contemporary Art from China and the US is a window into the progress of contemporary art in China, but only a few of the 26 artists on view at Otisí Ben Maltz Gallery truly stand out with originality and impact.. The tradition of art making is not a new thing for China. But Chinese artists have become more verbose in the last 30 some years after the end of Maoís communist regime. The show is a survey of 48 contemporary works by artists with foundations in China, specifically Beijing, Shanghai, and Gounghzhou. The exhibition is organized by Dan Mills and Xiaoze Xieówho is also an artist in the exhibitionó and is on display at Ben Maltz through April 23. It was first shown at was Bucknellís Samek Art Gallery in Pennsylvania.. To read the rest, go to art.blogging.la.. ...
Welcome to Wishful Endings! This is where I geek out about all things bookish. Youll find me talking about YA, Romance, Christian Romance, LDS Romance, and occasionally other genres and hobby titles. I always include content info in my reviews so you know what youre diving into. I enjoy helping publishers and authors promote their books here and over at Prism Book Tours. Outside of blogging, Im a total Marvel geek, Austen fan, and enjoy hanging with the family (husband, four kiddos, and pup).. ...
And every blogger (or excuse me, ARTIST) approaches their craft in a different way. Some work in the wee hours of the morning, others in the way more fun hours of the night. Some do it as a hobby, some do it professionally, and others do it to complain about their estranged family members or to share erotic Harry Potter fan fiction or whatever. Blogging is a diverse game, yall ...
Let me tell you a few stories about how I have nearly stopped blogging. Some of these stories you may know; others I have not talked about before. The events behind these stories have all hinged on Englands illiberal and antiquated approach to defamation laws. Those laws must change and here is why.. Writing a blog, surprisingly, is not without its serious risks. Hobbies like skiing, diving or playing rubgy can leave you badly injured or even killed. Blogging a weekly article on a subject of your interest can also leave you with a ruined life.. In the case of blogging, that risk comes from English libel laws that expose writers to the real danger that they may be financially ruined.. When you chose to write about a subject that inevitably questions, even tangentially, the beliefs, motives and business practices of others, then you lay yourself open to some very serious consequences - and there is only so much you can do to protect yourself.. I write about superstitious medical beliefs. I do not ...
Black-cheeked lovebirds are considered the most endangered of all the African parrot species. Avian experts advocate for captive black-cheeked lovebirds to be placed into well-managed breeding programs to ensure species survival because this species is so endangered in the wild.
Upon graduation, I entered the real world, working in jobs in the public relations and marketing industry before realizing my affinity for writing and accepting a job as a content team manager for a large website. After working as a writer, editor and manager for two-and-a-half years, I eventually left my job to pursue a career in freelance writing and full-time blogging. Writing blog posts for Peanut Butter Fingers every day unearthed a passion in me. What was once simply a hobby grew into a love affair with blogging and eventually a career.. My blog has changed a lot through the years, as Ive blogged about a number of moves, career changes, our engagement, wedding and three pregnancies, births and babies!. ...
Its good to see a new post from you!.. So sorry about the shoulder. .Boy that must have been painful. Your grandbaby is beautiful! As for blogging, in all honesty, Ive had my blog for many years but never really kept up with it. I tried doing YouTube for a long time but the truth is on YouTube, the element there is, strange. There seem to be many people on there who like to bully others and you deal with a lot of hate comments etc. YouTube over the last few years like many other things has turned very negative. As for Instagram, I like it but I dont post much there. I like to write. I like to read. I also find that the atmosphere and the people who read, comment and write blogs seems so much more kinder. I love the blogging atmosphere and I am going to try and blog more on my own. Ive tried other social media and I always come back to my blog. I hope youll keep writing!. ReplyDelete ...
March 5th, 2020 at 9:24 PM life has been very difficult for me for quite some time now mentally. Ive been totally insecure on how I look and who I am which has brought me to chronic depression. During my days in my head I say I hate myself and feel like anything I have to say has no worth. I know those are negative thoughts and tell myself otherwise but simply dont believe it and move on with my overwhelming school schedule.Ive lacked motivation to succeed in school and been stopped caring what my grades look like that used to matter to me. Ive began to lack motivation to pursue the things I want in life with short and long term goals and the person I want to become. Im 17 with no source of income other than my parents and no longer put time towards how I should but desperately put it to temporary highs and pleasures. Ive realized I have been apathetic for the past couple of years with my depression but seem to act like any of that isnt a part of me in society and my self image from fear ...
It is generally the case that couples with thriving, strong relationships have well-developed emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence describes a persons ability to be aware of, control, and express emotions in a healthy manner. In other words, it is the capacity to handle relationships appropriately and empathetically. In a partnership, emotional intelligence translates into the ability to be in touch with your own emotions as well as those of your partner.. A persons capacity for empathy and ability to talk about emotions in a healthy and loving way are both components of emotional intelligence. In a partnership or marriage, emotional intelligence may be seen in many areas. It is sustained over the course of a lifetime and is vital for making love last.. The following are eight key areas where emotionally intelligent couples practice loving well.. 1. Friendship. At the core of a good relationship is friendship. Emotionally intelligent couples stand the test of time because they are ...
Im not sure how it happened, but since my series of biz tips last November during National Career Development Week, I went from a serious blogger earning part-time income from my posts to a professional blogger making a living from writing about my life.. Saying that out loud is something I cant even convince my own mother is true. Blogs, for her, are still a new world - and a strange one at that for a career. And honestly, even I am baffled by this transition. Blogging was (and still is) a hobby for me, and Im so thankful that its reached a point where it can support my lifestyle too.. I dont make millions from my blog, though there are certainly superstar bloggers out there who pull in an impressive income without celebrity status. I dont have a staff or even an intern, and I still prefer to produce my own content without contributors or guest bloggers. In a way, I feel that makes the idea of blogging for a living more approachable for most people.. So how do you get to that pivotal ...
We bloggers have additional reason to hate Word. Blog posts or (God forbid) key snippets of HTML or Javascript used to enhance blog posts and templates, if composed or filtered through Microsoft Word, will acquire all sorts of deviant code. It looks vaguely like [o:p] - I dare not render it precisely, even by way of demonstration, because of this five-character strings potential to wreak technological havoc. If youre lucky, the Word-contaminated post wont render in your blogging platforms preview function, and you know better than to mash the publish button. If youre unlucky, it looks good enough on your screen, and your decision to publish then destroys a bunch of RSS feeds and XML scripts that power other peoples blogs and websites ...

So this past Friday (February 19th) was my blogs 11 year anniversary. I published my first post here back in February 19th 2005, a really odd post which I find hilarious now since my blog has become what it is today. If I had known my blog would end up here I would have probably posted something a bit less… crude. But, what I just realized a few moments ago is that this February also marks the 13th anniversary of my first post on my first blog ever. Back in 2003 me and a few friends launch a blog called Qhate and my first post there was published on February 6th, 2003. At that time we were the first blog based in Kuwait and unlike my early posts on 248AM, I actually enjoy reading my old stuff on Qhate. For those of you who dont know, Qhate started off as a war blog in which we were posting about life in Kuwait during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. So reading through my old posts there just takes me back in time during the volatile period. If youve never gone through some of the posts there you ...

This is the success story of Melissa from perfectionhangover.com This just goes to show how crucial SEO is to blogging. The only plugin I recommend (and pay for every month myself ) is the Squirrly SEO plugin. In this article, Melissa shares what she learned from her one-year blogging experience,
Hi I read your blog regularly. This post was a complete shock.Seems like you are addicted to blogging and you feel bad if you dont visit all blogs or dont reply to every comment. But disabling comments and the long post on how little time you have was like blaming your readers for your addiction ;)Nice to see you have enabled comments again. You can reply only queries on your recipes and acc to me no need to reply each and every one who says what a good post you have each wednesday. Most of the time they just write it without meaning much.I was wondering how u come up with so many recipes in each post.Relax since blogging isnt your job its just a hobby. It shouldnt be taxing for you.Just my 2 cents.I admired your enthu but this post looks like a dead end where you need to take it slow.Have fun doing things u like and do post once in a while as they make a interesting read for us. ...

Welcome to my site, and the story it tells.. I am sorry it is a little messy just now. It was originally a simple WordPress driven blogging site for me, Jasper Lawrence to write on the subject of helminthic therapy and related topics.. Because it is not my primary site for conducting the business of helminthic therapy I have started using it as a test bed for various ideas and technologies I hope to use to improve the conduct of my business.. So I am using it now to construct a Woocommerce site to develop ideas and methods for selling helminthic therapy and related products and services using Bitcoins as a payment method, and to develop my experience and knowledge around the use of the open source payment gateway for processing Bitcoin payments BTCPay Server.. You can still find my blog posts on the page called Blog Posts.. For now you cannot use this site to purchase any of my services, for that you need to go here.. Thanks for visiting my site and all the best.. ...
Garry Trudeau, who does the Doonesbury cartoon, takes a cheap shot at bloggers. It is fairly obvious that the journalist establishment is becoming threatened by the fear of competition which challenges them on the one issue they cant deal with, the truth. Trudeau is married to Jane Pauley, an expert at the trivial nonsense that now passes for journalism. Her most recent show was so bad that nobody watched it and it was cancelled. People now have options, and are no longer prepared to put up with watching distracting irrelevancies which are used to hide the truth. Trudeau, whose cartoon used to be important, has taken on the nice-but-stupid persona of his wife, and Doonesbury is now a sad shadow of what it was twenty years ago. It is curious that Trudeau insinuates that bloggers are somehow mentally ill, when Pauley herself boasts of being completely insane. You have to wonder if Trudeau was nagged into this cartoon and is taking his subtle revenge ...

In this blog post, China Aerospace Blog revisits the What is the Chinese Aviation Industry Like? article, which dates back to July 2018. So Ive been in this pit, worrying and trying to figure out if I should continue to blog about our journey through cancer and chemo or if enough is enough already, until last night when Daves Nana called to check on him. He had his fifth round of chemo on Monday (most of you didnt know because I didnt tell). We talked for a few minutes and she gave me the perspective I needed to resolve my wallowing two-fold. First, she told me, I asked the kids [the ones who live near her] if you had posted anything on the Internet or whatever you do, but they said you hadnt. Nana is 90, if youll remember - it was her birthday party we missed the day after Dave had surgery. Even she is looking to the Internet for information, though she doesnt have a computer of her own. Then, when I reluctantly told her that Dave wasnt home because he was playing golf (yes, two days after chemo), she responded with laughter and, Thats wonderful! That made my day that even though he feels bad hes playing golf ...
Blogging -- I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to call this my job. It started out as a hobby, but I found that it perfectly combined my three loves: writing, design and photography. It feels like a perfect fit for me and I love doing it, and I love being a part of the design blogging community - it is incredibly supportive and I have made some amazing friends through it. The blog is so much fun to do, so if someone gets some kind of inspiration out of it, it makes it all the more rewarding ...
Its hard sometimes to know how much to share on this blog. Its a fine line between writing about issues that are relevant to people who are grieving and giving away too much about my private life and that of my family. But I wrote a book. In it, I felt it necessary to be as completely honest about difficult things, things we dont like to talk about, in order for that book to be authentic, to help others going through what I went through. I know from emails that I have received from grieving people that my honesty has been the most important aspect of my book. My honesty is what has helped others through their own difficult times ...

We have all seen the claims on blogs, in articles and on places like You Tube that running shoes weaken muscles and that is why we should not be using the big bulky motion controlling running shoes. The claims are made quite regularly and with a certain amount of assertiveness that you would have to believe that those making the claims actually have some evidence to back up the claims, but they dont.... Something funny has happened both times Ive moved abroad: I become way more active online, especially with social media. Partly it has to do with the fact that Im visiting a lot of really cool places that I want to share. But even more than that, its for myself… it is the easiest way to feel like Im still connected to everyone at home. I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook which is 90% hate and 10% appreciation for Facebook Messenger because that is how I often communicate overseas. Social media makes me feel like Im still keeping in touch with people, even when I barely am. It makes me feel involved, even when Im a billion miles away.. Blogging does too, but it takes more time and thoughtfulness, and recently, Ive been taking that time and doing other things with it. Ive been going on more micro-adventures and meeting new people……..and watching a lot of Game of Thrones……. (I started it two weeks ago and Im on season 5, so.) Not blogging felt good for a few weeks. And ...
My apologies that Ive been very quiet here on Georneys recently. My travel and work schedule were extremely hectic during the past month… plus I was working on a couple of scientific papers related to my PhD thesis research. However, life is a bit calmer now, so hopefully Ill catch up on some blogging soon! I want to share some more pictures from my trip to Australia, amongst other things.. Ill start with a few pictures from my recent trip to Namibia. Recently, I had the good fortune to spend a couple of weeks in the Sperrgebiet in Namibia doing some fieldwork on behalf of De Beers. I do not blog about my industry work here on Georneys (unless the work is published and thus in the open domain), so I cant share the details of my trip. However, I can share a few pictures of some of the tourist attractions that I saw during my field work.. Sperrgebiet means Prohibited Area in German (the Germans colonized Namibia, so some German words and town names are still found in the country). The ...
Thats right! Today we are throwing a surprise baby shower for Stephanie from Girl Versus Dough! (Steph, are you surprised?). Stephanie is pregnant with her first little one, and before her little girl makes her grand entrance, 22 of Stephs closest blogging buddies and I wanted to take a moment to wish her well as only food bloggers can do - with some beautiful food!. Steph, your friendship is a blessing and your little girl is so blessed already just by having you and Elliott as parents. We cant wait to welcome her into our food blogging family!. For the occasion, I am bringing Mini Blackberry Hazelnut Meringue Cakes. I took hazelnut meringue cookies - Did you know Bobs Red Mill now makes Hazelnut Flour? It made making these cookies such a snap - and layered them with blackberry preserves and whipped cream and topped the whole mini shebang with a fresh blackberry. Ta-da! Two-bite meringue cakes that are light, airy, delicious, and positively perfect for gluten-free and gluten-loving crowds ...

Obviously, I have not been able to keep up with blogging as much lately. Things in my life have gotten more and more busy since 2008 and 2011 looks to increase that trend. In addition, my comfort level with being Gluten Free has also grown to the point where the thirst for knowledge has leveled off. This blog has been a vehicle for that community to educate and spread awareness for Celiac Disease and Gluten Free living. Rather than shut this blog down because I cannot pay it the attention is deserves, Ive decided to take this step. I will still contribute from time to time, but adding additional bloggers will allow for this blog to continue to serve its original intended purpose. The Climate Change Risk Perception Model (CCRPM, Van der Linden, 2015) has been used to characterize public risk perceptions; however, little is known about the models explanatory power in other (online) contexts. In this study, we extend the model and investigate the risk perceptions of a unique audience: The polarized climate change blogosphere. In total, our model explained 84% of the variance in risk perceptions by integrating socio-demographic characteristics, cognitive factors, experiential processes, socio-cultural influences, and an additional dimension: Trust in scientists and blogs. Although trust and the scientific consensus are useful additions to the model, affect remains the most important predictor of climate change risk perceptions. Surprisingly, the relative importance of social norms and value orientations is minimal. Implications for risk and science communication are discussed.. ...

Ive just received the first email from the new BeerPulse service that Adam Nason is putting together and it sort of captures the new world of the online blogosphere in my mind, one in which original content is largely aggregated from other sources, including mainstream media. It also immediately raised to mind a few issues I hadnt previously considered.. Perhaps it is my own self-selection, but it seems (and I am largely without empirical proof on this one) that the cause of beer blogging has slowed considerably in the last year or two. Im not sure whether youd see this reflected in the attendance logs for the Beer Bloggers Conference, but that zealous crowd might not be particularly reflective of the larger amateur beer writing community. You can, however, observe the creeping inclusion of corporate beer bloggers into the conferences attendance ranks, so that skews attendance upwards.. The Sessions beer writing project turned 5 in March, having now endured 64 sessions (I have somehow ...

In all the cities and towns internet speed is very good, wi-fi is offered in a lot of places and life goes on at a rather hurried pace. Here things are slightly different. Our internet currently runs at less than dial-up speed and thats on a good day. Were limited on options as to how we connect to the internet and have to use a dongle which to be frank is absolutely pants! We curently use a M-tel homebox which is supposed to supply our internet and home phone service via wireless and works very much like a mobile phone. Of course that is when it wants to work - the internet is usually ok (apart from being slow) but does get affected by the weather, the phone part rarely works and people get tired of trying to ring us and to be honest I understand why. We also have pre-paid mobile phones with the same company and they work great if you want to stand in the middle of the field with one leg in the air, shouting like a lunatic because the person calling cant hear you and freezing your backside ...
