Harm resulting from inappropriate telephone triage in primary care. (1/6)

PURPOSE: Our objective was to assess and categorize harm occurring to patients who called their physicians' office after-hours but did not have their call forwarded to the physician because they stated that their call was not an emergency. METHODS: We collected data on 4949 calls handled by our answering service for 1 year in a family medicine residency office in Denver, CO. Of the 2835 after-hours clinical calls, we reviewed all 288 clinical calls that were not forwarded to the "on-call" physician. Complete data on 119 clinical calls included reason for call, frequency of next day appointments, Emergency Department visits, hospital admissions and outcomes. Outcomes were reviewed and coded for harm to the patient by experienced medical errors coders. RESULTS: When patient calls were not forwarded, 51% had an appointment, 4% an Emergency Department visit, and 2% were admitted to the hospital within 2 weeks. Analysis revealed that 3% suffered harm, and 26% experienced discomfort due to the delay. Although 66% required no intervention, 1% required emergency transport and 4% a medication change. CONCLUSIONS: Harm may occur when patients' calls are not forwarded to the on-call physician. Although the level of harm is generally temporary and minimal, the potential exists for serious harm to occur. Physicians need to re-evaluate the way they handle after-hours calls.  (+info)

Typology of after-hours care instructions for patients: telephone survey and multivariate analysis. (2/6)

OBJECTIVE: To develop a typology of after-hours care (AHC) instructions and to examine physician and practice characteristics associated with each type of instruction. DESIGN: Cross-sectional telephone survey. Physicians' offices were called during evenings and weekends to listen to their messages regarding AHC. All messages were categorized. Thematic analysis of a subset of messages was conducted to develop a typology of AHC instructions. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify associations between physician and practice characteristics and the instructions left for patients. SETTING: Family practices in the greater Toronto area. PARTICIPANTS: Stratified random sample of family physicians providing office-based primary care. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Form of response (eg, answering machine), content of message, and physician and practice characteristics. RESULTS: Of 514 after-hours messages from family physicians' offices, 421 were obtained from answering machines, 58 were obtained from answering services, 23 had no answer, 2 gave pager numbers, and 10 had other responses. Message content ranged from no AHC instructions to detailed advice; 54% of messages provided a single instruction, and the rest provided a combination of instructions. Content analysis identified 815 discrete instructions or types of response that were classified into 7 categories: 302 instructed patients to go to an emergency department; 122 provided direct contact with a physician; 115 told patients to go to a clinic; 94 left no directions; 76 suggested calling a housecall service; 45 suggested calling Telehealth; and 61 suggested other things. About 22% of messages only advised attending an emergency department, and 18% gave no advice at all. Physicians who were female, had Canadian certification in family medicine, held hospital privileges, or had attended a Canadian medical school were more likely to be directly available to their patients. CONCLUSION: Important issues identified included the recommendation to use an emergency department as the sole source of AHC, practices providing no specific AHC instructions to their patients, and physicians' lack of acceptance of Telehealth. To improve AHC, new initiatives should build upon the existing system, changes should be integrated, and there should be a range of AHC options for patients and physicians.  (+info)

I often get asked about virtual pbx companies that offer voicemail transcriptions as part of their service. Dipyridamole 25mg pills $119.00 voicemail transcription turns a regular voicemail into a text document that can then be sent as a text message to your phone or emailed directly to you. The benefit of a service like this is that it allows you to read a message rather than listen to it. Voicemail transcription comes in very handy if youre in a meeting and cant actually take the time to listen to your messages dipyridamole 25mg pills $119.00, but you can get away with reading an email or checking a text message. The challenge is that transcription services will often struggle to produce accurate results. However, most of the time you can get the "gist" of a message without having 100% of message transcribed accurately. I use Google Voice on a regular basis and have found that their voicemail transcription service to be admirable. Granted, there are times it doesnt get the transcription ...

Many people are familiar with traditional telemarketing, wherein a staff member of a business cold calls potential customers in order to deliver a sales pitch. However, this method often results in aggravating the person you are calling, as the pitch is delivered at a time that may not be convenient for them. Some people who answer the phone to telemarketers can also be insulting or rude to your employees, which is not great for overall company morale.. However, if you utilize ringless voicemail, which allows your employees to go direct to voicemail in order to deliver their sales pitches, the potential customer is less likely to be bothered. Since their phones never ring, they will not know that they have received the voicemail until they get a notification that its sitting in their inbox. Then, its up to them whether they listen to the message at that moment or wait for a more convenient time.. Catching customers at the right time is very important, as consumer mood has a big impact on ...

So much for Dr. McLucas instructions for me to call his office today. Wednesday, 7 October 1998. Scheduler not in today. Played telephone tag most of the day with McLucas office. I finally reach him at 3:15 p.m. He tells me that I have a lot of polyps. Hyperplasia that is pre-cancerous. No pre-cancerous cells yet, but I would benefit from progesterone to get the ...
Because life in the medically fragile lane is always an adventure, I spent my birthday screaming at the peds office, and looking for a new doc, yet again! I first made a phone call to the ped last Thursday. My call was never returned. Friday, Monday, and then yesterday, still no phone call. I told this ped in the beginning what I expected from a doc. I cant have 4 days of no return phone call. Just cant happen. I left a nasty message last night. The girl that called me today said the doc has in her notes that she left me a message yesterday. I do get terrible reception at my house, and my phone doesnt always ring. But it always goes to voicemail. And if it took her to voicemail and she left a message. I would have gotten it. So I tend to not believe that excuse. I also told her that even if she did call yesterday, 4 days is not acceptable for a return phone call. Im going to end up in the ER with him in the next couple days. He can not go 2 months without having his lovenox level checked. ...

I went for my appointment in September 2016, as my wisdom teeth were causing me a lot of pain. They took all the X-rays and said I should wait to hear from them for my hospital appointment to remove the teeth. I called back three weeks later as I wanted an update , the receptionist said my case had been sent off to the hospital and I should wait to hear back. I waited a few more weeks and still heard nothing , so I called and the receptionist said the same. I received a missed call second week of January with no voicemail from the dentist. I forgot to return the call. Then the first week of February I received another missed call , with no voicemail. I returned the call later on . The receptionist was only interested in me returning to have a couple of fillings. I enquired about the wisdom teeth and they said I would need to return to have the X rays redone. It turns out they have lost the X rays. Appalling service. Total waste of times. And Ive been completely lied to on two occasions by the ...
At 11:30 AM, my phone rang again. This time it was Ms. H, saying this was the first she had heard about the issue. She said that she had not actually seen my email because she had (ironically) been in a meeting at my sons school all morning. She only knew about it because she had a phone message from her supervisor when she left the meeting, and he filled her in over the phone. She did not want to wait until she got back to the office to return my call (worried about that 12:30 deadline, I suspect), so could I please recap the story for her. I did, and I explained that I was perplexed as to how this could be the first she had heard about the issue, considering that I had left messages with the main number for her on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and I had personally left her a voicemail on Friday. "Well, maam, I am out working issues on the routes until about 9AM, and then I am back out on the routes by 1PM, so if you left me a voicemail after that, I havent been in the office yet to get ...
A few years ago, my gynecologist left me a voicemail telling me to call her back. I had recently had my annual exam, but my doctor had given me results via voicemail before. I worried the news could not be good.. My gynecologist is never judgmental and always calm -- two regrettably rare traits in womens medicine. So when she told me my pap smear had come back abnormal and showed traces of HPV, I didnt panic. I was 23 years old and had never had an irregular pap smear before, but my doctor reassured me that everything was probably fine and I just needed to get some follow-up tests.. Thankfully, I received my diagnosis in 2009, three years after Merck released its "One Less" campaign to advertise the first HPV vaccine, Gardasil. I had never received the vaccine, but the news surrounding it lead me to learn a lot simply through osmosis -- and pamphlets at the doctors office. I knew that HPV was a sexually transmitted infection (STI), and I knew that, in some cases, it could lead to cancer. But ...

I tried calling Kynlee tonight, it went straight to voicemail. Orginally yesterday I told her I would call on Friday but tonight I was thinking of her so had to call her....told her on the voicemail that I will try again tomorrow if I dont hear back tonight. She had a doctor appt on 2/13 and found out she has preclampsia. She was admitted in the hospital and will be there until her baby is born, up until March 1st. Kynlee has preclampsia (when the blood pressure is too high and there is protein in the blood.) She and baby are stable but they want to monitor her and keep her under the best care. She said baby has been doing somersalts and is no longer breech which is great ...
Oh, and I confirmed that the phone calls my son made/got came from his drug dealer. I actually called the number, just because I was curious. It was a cellphone, and the call went to voicemail. The recording said the voicemail box was full. But less than a minute later, the guy called back and I answered the phone. He thought I was my kid, calling me by my sons name. When I told him he was in fact talking to his customers father, he claimed to have the wrong number. Interesting experience, for sure. Its not every day you get to talk on the phone to your sons drug dealer ...
We post an ad on the web, screen out anyone without experience, anyone with a questionable resume, email address, or outgoing voicemail, etc. I email the remaining applicants for further info (elaborate on experience, pay range, hours available, and so forth. If I get a bad vibe or their answers are not what I am looking for, they are out.) Once I weed through and find the good ones, I print them out for Matt and he pulls the ones he likes. He will call them. If they sound unprofessional or shady on their voicemail or during the phone interview, they are out. Matt doesnt tell them they are being interviewed on the phone. The ones that make it through, Matt confirms that they live within 15 minutes (any further than that, after a while the drive/gas deters them from wanting to work for just a few hours per day) and that they have transportation. Matt meets them, without me (I tend to try to takeover) at a nearby fast food place. He brings with him a copy of the ad, a list of attendant duties ...
How I Wish Id Learn to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb John entered the police evidence recovery room and observed a photograph of Marty. Staring intently at the picture, John declared, "Sit tight! Im coming for you!" A determined John opened numerous gun cases and examined several weapons. Dissatisfied with the caliber of weapons he had recovered, John continued to search for the right gun. Upon finding a large handgun, John appeared pleased. John loaded the weapon and left a message on Michaels voicemail. Warning Michael that the police would question him concerning Johns whereabouts, John instructed Michael to tell the truth and asked him not to cover for him. John told Michael that he had some business to take care of and soon the case would be over. John phoned Blair, but received her voicemail. He inquired about Starr and apologized for being abrupt with Blair at the courthouse. John said he hoped that he got the chance to make things up to her. John armed himself with a knife and ...

And how wonderful are nurses?! Seriously, I love mine. The one Ive been talking with is one of the prenatal care coordinators, and I just call and leave my questions/request for blood work results on the OB nurse voicemail. She knows my history, and tends to both my physical and emotional concerns. She is encouraging and hopeful, and I trust her completely. I need to thank my nurses more often ...
So we went in and did the ultrasound and they saw 2 follicles, at size 8 and 9. LITTLE guys. Darn! I was really hoping for a little more than that, especially taking 150 mg of Clomid. But I kept telling myself, "Hey, its only day 11. They will grow (hopefully)." Then I got my bloodwork and waited for the phone call. They called me at 3:55 pm and I couldnt answer the phone until 3:59 pm. The message went a little something like this,"Hi, this is nurse so and so, and Dr. RE wants you to start taking estridiol tablets tonight and over the weekend because your lining is thin. I need the number to your pharmacy. Please call me before 4pm, that is when we close, and we arent open on weekends." WHAT?!!! Its Friday! I happen to be driving down the road going away from the office. I call the office, of course it goes to voicemail. I am thinking OMG, this cycle is going to be gone-ruined! I try to call again and the message says "Sorry we are closed." OMG! I whipped the car around and thought maybe I ...

Thursday: Appointment with GI doc. Saw the CT scan and a section of Jacks bowel was very large and distended. Discussed option of doing the "clean-out" at home. Would require me to give him Miralax (or something similar) every half hour around the clock until he was cleaned out, with no way to keep him hydrated because his g-tube is his only source of hydration and we would be using it as a route to give him the clean-out medicine. When exactly was I going to sleep? Decided to admit him so he could get "Go-Lightly" continuously via a pump and fluids via an IV. Choices included waiting for a pre-auth or going through the ER. I told him I had better things to do with my time than sit in the ER. Dropped Jack and his nurse off at home and went into work for a few hours. Didnt hear anything by 1pm whether they got the pre-authorization from insurance. Called the GIs office and got the scheduling nurses voicemail. Waited an hour, no phone call yet. Called my insurance company and asked if anyone ...

For an assortment of reasons, my husband has been unemployed for a while, outside of extremely short temp work and off-the-book odd jobs. For a while he has been having random symptoms: foot and ankle pain, shortness of breath after exertion - more than normal - and lower back pain. All together, they dont seem to add up to anything aside from random aches and pains, they never stick around long, and without insurance, he cant afford to see a doctor properly, so he just treats with aspirin and the like.. Finally, it happens: the Affordable Care Act is passed. He signs up and gets real health insurance for the first time in a decade. Hes assigned a primary care physician and we call to set up an appointment. No answer. We try again, and again, and again, at both the number listed on the insurance site and on their individual site. We never get an answer; we never even get voicemail. After a bit more than a month of this, hes feeling ill; the local EMO doesnt take the medicare-based version ...

voice-over): Summertime is supposed to be vacation time, time with the kids, a chance to chill out from work, go someplace new. But a ton of surveys suggest Americans just are not very good at this. Nearly half of us do not use our vacation time. We only get 15 days off the year on average anyway. And when we do get away, we are not really away. Eighty percent of us take our cell phones, a third of us stay connected to the office, voicemail, e-mail, computer, calling to check in. Some vacation. But what if we took time off and were really off? A lot of experts say we would be happier, less stressed, more productive, we would recharge and refresh. Think of the example we would set sweat for the kids. Problem is, they are not off either. This is in our DNA now ...
The clear value here is the fact that it saves you having to call round or email everyone on the list, and presumably once the email addresses are in the system and youve registered, theyre there for ever, so that bit gets easier too. As is the case with most uber cool applications nowadays, this is a Ruby on Rails development. Nice.. Presdo takes the hassle out of trying to find the best time to get together with people. Use Presdo to minimize the annoying ping pong of email, texting, and voicemail when organizing the next team lunch or trying to grab coffee with a friend.. ...
Blue Gal, you also make a good point about the Republicans attempt to keep Allen in office. DOV MORANS desk is littered with the carcasses of dismembered phones. Mr Moran has already had one big breakthrough: inventing the now ubiquitous memory stick. But he dreams of another one: he wants to separate the "brains" of the various gizmos that dominate our lives from the "bodies" to enable people to carry around tiny devices that they will be able to plug into anything from phones to cameras to computers. Mr Moran sold his memory-stick business to SanDisk for $1.6 billion, creating a thriving technology cluster near his office. This time he wants to build an Israeli business that will last, challenging the giants of the camera and phone businesses. Israel is full of would-be Dov Morans. It is home to 4,000 high-tech companies, more than 100 venture-capital funds and a growing health-care industry. Innovations developed in the country include the Pentium chip (Intel), voicemail (Comverse), instant messaging (Mirabilis, Ubique), firewalls (Checkpoint) and the "video pill", which allows ...

Google just announced that their chat application, Google Talk, is now open for public consumption, having previously been limited to Gmail users.. The new, open Google Talk comes with the same bundle of new features announced on Google Talks first birthday, like voicemail (see screenshot - delivered via email), file transfer, and music status/trends. I know that the world over loves Google for their search, but I feel like most people are pretty dedicated to their favorite IM app, and if they dont have loyalties, theyre already using Adium or Trillian. With that in mind, Im interested to see what an open Google Talk can do. Your thoughts in the comments. - Adam Pash. ...

These challenges can be compounded by a large amount of data from multiple data loggers, tests, systems, etc. Watch this webinar to learn about new MATLAB features for working with sensor data, including:. ...

Everyone hates voicemail and voicemail systems. And with good reason. These days voicemail is getting pretty "smart" : you can now say "Yes" and "No" instead of pressing 1 or 2 in response to questions (unless you have an accent, in which case dont bother). You can even say a persons name to be connected to a someone elses extension. But technical problems aside, these are patches on a fatally flawed medium.. Audio interfaces will always lack something that visual interfaces posess effortlessly: the ability to jump around at will. If you dont care about the information in a paragraph, you skip to the next one. You dont have to inform the piece of paper you are reading that you want to navigate, you just do it. You look here, then there. You scan. You find whats interesting. Visual interfaces excel because they let you throw away the unneeded information-chaff and focus on what you want to know. There is no analog in the audible world. When youre listening, it takes substantially longer to ...

The use of CIT for self-management of hyperglycemia during pregnancy increased glucose reporting compliance by a small but statistically significant amount compared to the use of the traditional control method (voicemail). Satisfaction scores for the CIT system were significantly higher than for the voicemail method with regard to preference, ease of use, time management, motivation, self-efficacy, personalization, and recommendations to friends and family. The majority of women found the automatic text messages always or often helpful, supporting the premise that patients welcome electronic feedback tailored to their needs.. The similarity in compliance rates can be explained in our unit by the standard protocol of weekly phone calls from nurses to remind women to upload or report their results. If CIT systems become commonplace and automatic text messages are appropriately composed, the need for reminder calls and time spent on the phone could decrease. Moreover, a CIT system can directly ...
The miniaturization of the current technology of storage media is hindered by fundamental limits of quantum mechanics. A new approach consists in using so-called spin-crossover molecules as the smallest possible storage unit. Similar to normal hard drives, these special molecules can save information via their magnetic state. A research team from Kiel University has now managed to successfully place a new class of spin-crossover molecules onto a surface and to improve the molecules storage capacity. The storage density of conventional hard drives could therefore theoretically be increased by more than one hundred fold. The study has been published in the scientific journal Nano Letters. ...
There is a life-form. It comes from a world light-years away from ours, but many things about it are curiously familiar. OK, I just made those up... but... if I spent a few hours doing serious research, I am dead certain I could come up with little-known facts just as appealing. Finally, do NOT let your prospect order online. Only accept TELEPHONE orders. And, only let them call your regular area code number. Never ask them to call an 800 or an 888 toll-free number. It has now been proven that twice as many people will call a POTS number (Plain Old Telephone Service) as will call a toll-free number. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe it has something to do with the idea that calling a toll-free number will get you connected to a high-pressure telephone salesman... whereas... (at least in the prospects mind) that is less likely to happen if they call a POTS number. Also, calling a POTS number tends to give people the feeling they could get someone on they phone if they ever needed help... whereas... calling a toll-free number is more likely to connect you to "Voicemail Hell". Phone orders only? Are you ...
Oh. My my my…. *blush*. So I decided to reply via email to his most recent comment on another archive post. We flirted a bit and I gave him information, how-to, and advice on the blog he started. Walked him through a few basic WordPress settings. Next day, more of the same. I was summoned to the downstairs office to cover the desk, and found that the only remaining person working was likely gone the rest of the day at meetings. I found myself looking at an hour there all alone. Now, you -know- the sorts of things I get up to when Im alone there. So I fill him in briefly. Smart boy, asks if I have gotten out my bullet vibe yet. No, wasnt feelin it….Shame, no? He asks if I would mind if he left me a voicemail through gmail. Hmmm…no one has ever done that before…what followed was what you read above.. His voice quiet and low, he seemed mildly unsure of himself….it was cute. I could tell when he paused to smile. Which words were just flowing without forethought, and which words were ...

If I start oin about these rip off merchants, I will end up needing a new keyboard!!! I just called ofcom and lodged my complaint so i recommend everyone reading this who has not yet done so also di it because they are monitoring this situation. Patientline have no reason to charge the prices they do. Also I called the Department of Health, the operator there told me I am far from the first person to phone them about this, He agreed with me about their prices and told me they do not have control, it is actually down to the individual trust. I called my Trust, Royal Hampshire County hospital and asked to speak to the department that deals with contracting the Patientline. I got through to voicemail and asked for someone to call me back. A nice chap did and turns out he works for patientline and not the trust. I told him that Patientline are idiots, There are 6 beds in my wifes bay and only she is using the patientline. I explained that they were cutting their own throats because if they charged ...
Insects can use plants as ℠green phones´ for communication with other bugs. A new study now shows that through those same plants insects are also able to leave ℠voicemail´ messages in the soil. Herbivorous insects store their voicemails via their effects on soil fungi. Researchers from the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) and Wageningen University (WUR) discovered this unique messaging service in the ragwort plant. The influential journal Ecology Letters will soon publish these results.. A few years ago, NIOO scientists discovered that soil-dwelling and aboveground insects are able to communicate with each other using the plant as a telephone. Insects eating plant roots change the chemical composition of the leaves, causing the plant to release volatile signals into the air. This can convince aboveground insects to select another food plant in order to avoid competition and to escape from poisonous defense compounds in the plant. But the impact doesn´t stop there.. The new ...
Before I go to bed, which I must, I have one open question here. What do I say to our old vet? She actually, without prompting, called today and left me a voicemail message asking us to come in for the next liver test (the same one were not doing for 3 weeks) and to pick up some medication (cream-based antibiotics) she had ordered last week that we no longer need. I suppose Liz or I need to call her back and tell her, but Im not looking forward to it. I think I will just say that weve chosen a more "full service" vet and leave it at that. The thousands of dollars that she got us to spend on a haphazard patchwork of tests and emergency hospitalizations are gone and I cant see anyway to get them back, though I hope our pet insurance will reimburse us some of it. The potentially dangerous advice that she gave us by saying "as long as he eats, hell be ok" is water under the bridge now ...

For an IVF update...nothing new. Still waiting. I havent heard a peep, not a single word, from my nurse practitioner since April 3rd. I have been so angry, so frustrated with her! (Maybe that is were the anger has been redirected to, haha) I left a voicemail for her last Wednesday asking for her to please call me and never heard back from her. Its unreal! So, I asked my friend from high school who had IVF through the same clinic and the same contact whether or not she had a hard time getting answers from her. My friend said that she remembers that she didnt hear much from her at all and was very frustrated with her at the same point in the process I was, and then told me her timeline and how many birth control packs she went through, etc. I then took her timeline and mapped out when our procedures may be based on that just so I could get an idea of what Im looking at. We also have some weekend travel in the next two months, as well as me being out of town for a week in June for work, so Im ...
Janet (the IVF nurse) called yesterday afternoon. Its never good when they call. Usually they just leave a message in my voicemail box with blood results. The IVF stuff was good but my hematocrit was high from my CBC. I have noticed in the past that this is usually borderline high. If its too low its a determination of anemia. So I guess Im the opposite of anemic. She said it could be from dehydration so she wanted me to drink gallons of water and come back this morning for more blood. I made the appt but then immediately regretted not pushing her to just let me check it on Sunday since Ill already be giving blood. So this morning I called and tried to talk them out of it. They said the orders came from the big dog herself so they couldnt let me slide. BOO! So I drove 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back for them to draw blood that took 10 min! AND - they had to get it out of my hand so they could save my good vein for Sunday! Poor hand! At least she did get it on the first try though. She ...
All of which brings me to the reason I cited Mossbergs article at the top of this one. There are lots of reasons why the United States cell network is one of the least impressive in the industrialized world, but foremost among them is the fact that cell service providers today get to treat their networks like Ma Bell did its own back before deregulation in the 1970s and 80s. They dictate what capabilities the devices on their networks have; what hardware features are crippled or half-enabled; they impose service contracts of such length as to be almost punitive to prevent customers voting with their feet. Did you know that we wouldnt even have our own answering machines (or their successors, voicemail boxes)--they had to be rented from AT&T itself; sound familiar?--without Ma Bells rules having been first ignored by consumers, then brought to heel by antitrust legislation?. None of these are measures are illegal, by the way, and Im not sure they should truly be illegal, in my opinion; but ...

It was Easter 2003, and something was wrong with Kimberly Taube. She hadnt contacted her sister, who had been cooking a family dinner and was waiting for Taube to check in. Multiple phone calls to her home bounced to voicemail. Concerned, her sister drove to Taubes apartment and let herself in with her spare key. Kimberly was dead in her bed. Her death certificate said "cardiac dysrhythmia," but her sister, Nikki Botwinik, thinks it was something else: epilepsy. Taubes family believes that the 28-year-old, who had been diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 12, experienced sudden death in epilepsy, or SUDEP.. READ MORE. ...
With the loss of a fan favorite, this episode was bitter sweet for many but also served to add new layers of complexity as we prepare to transition to the second half of the game. The big questions center around how the new alliances will form and what role the real and fake idols might play. Based on the feedback this week, we have some clear front runners, some with little chance to win and a muddy middle that could go either way. We are super excited to see what happens when they merge next week!. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great Listener Feedback show. This week we heard from: Pete, Mike, Jen, Tina, Pepsi-n-Christine, Parker, Shannon, Drew, Kenny, BraondonB, Jill, Josh, Jody, and Paul.. Weve got several ways you can reach us. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-1547 or toll-free at 844-643-8737. You can record an audio comment and attach it or just type up a quick text message and send it to us via email at ...

These replacements would be a bit harder to utilize, but still manageable, if your friends and family are willing to put up with it. There are things like Facebook messenger and free video and voice calling services like Google Hangouts that, if utilized over WiFi, can provide a means of communication between you, your friends and your family. Obviously, the instant messaging aspects of these platforms would serve as a replacement for texting. The only lacking feature would be voicemail and limited mobility or availability of internet. For example, youd have to be at home or in a WiFi providing establishment for it to work.. As for VOIP, theres all-in-one solutions provided by software like Discord and maybe even Slack. Slack has structured itself to be a more corporate solution, though, designed to be able to replace a companys communication structure. Discord is a solution developed specifically for those who play video games, but it has messaging, video calling, voice chatting and image ...

People who have lost a loved one often talk about wishing to hear that persons voice, if only for a minute. An old voicemail, home video, or recording gets played over and over again. To feel the persons presence and remember the tone of their voice, laughter, and even singing brings a moment of comfort in the midst of tragedy. Jared Buhanan-Decker and his wife Sharry were expecting their son together this year. Unexpectedly, Sharry died during childbirth. He watched the videos she posted of herself singing and playing the guitar on YouTube but he recently found new recordings. The only problem was that Jared did not recognize the format they were recorded in. The grieving husband took to Reddit to ask for help. "I just want to be able to hear her voice again," he pleaded. He had no idea he was going to get the response he did in just a couple of hours. ...
But this activity is difficult to prosecute when trolls know how to conceal their identity. A lone troll might leave his victim only one voicemail telling her to burn in an oven, which would fail to meet the criteria for cyberstalking. When hundreds of trolls do the same, though, the effect can be terrifying. "Its like a bee swarm," says Danielle Citron, a professor at the University of Marylands School of Law and a leading expert on cyberharassment. "You have a thousand bee stings. Each sting is painful. But its perceived as one awful, throbbing, giant mass."". ...

Ward 8 Councilman Marion Barry made comments Monday about Filipina nurses who work in District hospitals, just weeks after Barry told his supporters that Asian businesses "ought to go.". At a hearing, Barry told the president and board members of the University of the District of Columbia that the school should be supplying D.C. residents to serve in the "lucrative" posts of nurses and teachers.. But that was not the case, Barry said.. "In fact, its so bad, that if you go to the hospital now, you find a number of immigrants who are nurses, particularly from the Philippines," Barry said. "And no offense, but lets grow our own teachers, lets grow our own nurses -- and so that we dont have to be scrounging around in our community clinics and other kinds of places -- having to hire people from somewhere else.". Barry did not respond to phone calls on Monday evening, and his voicemail inbox was full and not accepting messages.. Earlier this month, Barry found himself in hot water when, after his ...
H.S. Jatana. An average of 900 million voicemail messages are exchanged during the course of a business day. Dependence on e-mail is also rising, with IDC projecting that in a few years there will be more e-mail accounts in the USA than either telephone lines or television sets. And wireless adoption continues to experience overwhelming growth: China Mobile alone serves more than 100 million handsets.. How can service providers accommodate the increasing global demand for new and existing communications services ? The answer lies in convergence - delivering voice and data services over one network versus multiple networks , and using technology that will allow carriers to bring new communications services to market more quickly.. The migration of voice to sophisticated and flexible IP networks is leading the communications revolution. Both established and next-generation telecommunications service providers from around the globe are using this technology to build intelligent networks that will ...

The data in this study include a random sample of nurse triage callers from 40 health plans located throughout the United States. The health plans contracted with one provider of telephone-based nurse triage services and agreed to participate in the outcomes survey. Health plan members were able to contact the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost through toll-free numbers. The primary reason to contact the triage service is to have a registered nurse assess medical symptoms; these callers are classified as symptomatic.. The triage services clinical-decision architecture uses more than 570 symptom-based algorithms to evaluate callers medical complaints and suggest appropriate management. Other callers contact the nurse triage service to obtain provider referrals, general health information, or information concerning specific health plan coverage and services.. Participation in the study was limited to symptomatic callers. Biweekly, data on a random sample of symptomatic callers were ...

Big sensor data provide significant potential for chemical fault diagnosis, which involves the baseline values of security, stability and reliability in chemical processes. A deep neural network (DNN) with novel active learning for inducing chemical fault diagnosis is presented in this study. It is a method using large amount of chemical sensor data, which is a combination of deep learning and active learning criterion to target the difficulty of consecutive fault diagnosis. DNN with deep architectures, instead of shallow ones, could be developed through deep learning to learn a suitable feature representation from raw sensor data in an unsupervised manner using stacked denoising auto-encoder (SDAE) and work through a layer-by-layer successive learning process. The features are added to the top Softmax regression layer to construct the discriminative fault characteristics for diagnosis in a supervised manner. Considering the expensive and time consuming labeling of sensor data in chemical applications,
