Mini-abdominoplasty combined with mesh used for abdominal wall endometriosis. (2/4)

BACKGROUND: Wide excision is considered the treatment of endometriosis. It is difficult to surgeon for reconstruction of a large full-thickness defect through the abdominal-wall. We introduce a method of mini-abdominoplasty combined with mesh that can be used for reconstruction of a large full-thickness defect through the abdominal-wall after wide excision of abdominal wall endometriosis. METHODS: This retrospective study includes a series of patients who underwent wide excision of abdominal wall endometriosis and reconstruction of a large full-thickness defect through the abdominal-wall over a 5-year period. Information obtained from chart reviews includes age, size of lesion and defect, complications and revisions. RESULTS: The method was used for 8 patients including 2 patients with recurrence. The mean size of the masses was (3.5 +/- 2.0) cm. The mean size of the fascia defects was 7.1 cm x 8.6 cm. The mean length of follow-up was (24 +/- 12) months. There was no recurrence, no hernia, and no other complications. The technique generated only a horizontal scar. The scar and contour of the lower abdomen provided a more pleasant appearance than the traditional procedure. CONCLUSIONS: Mini-abdominoplasty combined with mesh is a useful and acceptable reconstruction method for large full-thickness defects through the abdominal wall after endometriosis resection. It is feasible for wide excision with 1 cm normal tissues around the margin. It provides an aesthetically pleasing result.  (+info)

Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss. Abdominoplasty operations vary in scope and are frequently subdivided into categories. Depending on the extent of the surgery, a complete abdominoplasty can take from 1 to 5 hours. A partial abdominoplasty (mini-tuck abdominoplasty) can be completed between 1 and 2 hours. In general, a complete (or full) abdominoplasty follows these steps: An incision is made from hip to hip just above the pubic area. Another incision is made to free the navel from the surrounding skin. The skin is detached from the abdominal wall to reveal the muscles and fascia to be tightened. The muscle fascia wall is tightened with sutures. ...
A surgical procedure is an endoscopic assisted abdominoplasty. This procedure eschews the use of abdominal incisions and obtains the desired result with no visible scars on the abdomen of the patient. A traditional or standard abdominoplasty (also called a dermolipectomy of the abdomen) has always required a surgical incision in the abdomen followed by surgical removal of part of the skin, the underlying fat layer, and suturing the opening. The endoscopic assisted abdominoplasty shown herein uses two small hidden incisions, one in the umbilicus or on the abdomen or other areas, in pre-existing scars or other areas such as under the armpit for introduction of the surgical instruments, and a small incision within the pubic hair line for endoscopic and/or direct observation and control of the procedure. While observing the procedure through the endoscope, the surgical instruments are inserted through the umbilical incision to remove fat by liposuction and plicate and repair the muscles by use of a

Generally an abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia or a local anesthesia with IV sedation. While under general anesthesia, the patient is totally unconscious. If under local anesthesia, the area being operated on is numbed and the patient is relaxed using a mixture of IV sedatives and memory blocks. While either form of anesthesia is acceptable, general anesthesia is preferred. In some cases, members have reported having awareness and painful sensations during a surgery performed under local anesthesia. If your plastic surgeon is going to perform abdominoplasty under local anesthesia, please make sure to question the reasoning behind his decision. It may be medically necessary in your case or simply a preference of the plastic surgeon ...

While diet and exercise are obviously important parts to maintaining both health and appearance, they have their limits, particularly when it comes to excess skin.. Tummy Tuck Surgery The best candidates for Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck procedure) are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that wont respond to diet or exercise.
A medical journal article just published revealed on retrospective review that patients maintained weight losses greater than the amount of tissue removed at abdominoplasty/tummy tuck more than a year after the surgery. This amount of maintained weight loss was greater in people who were heavier prior to surgery (24.5kg/m2 or more) and was proportional to the amount of tissue removed at surgery for 4.5 or more pounds of tissue removal. When asked why the weight was lost and the loss maintained these patients responded that they felt full after and between meals so they ate less. In my experience patients lose additional weight because they like and want to maintain their results. That involves lifestyle changes including exercise and eating a healthier diet. Abdominoplasty however should not be performed primarily to lose weight because the complication rates are quite high for patients with BMI over 40kg/m2 and the results are less than optimal with BMI of 35 to 40kg/m2. Nearly every patient I ...
An abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin, and restores weakened or separates muscles creating a smoother and firmer abdominal profile. The most common causes of a protruding abdomen are pregnancy, aging, heredity, prior surgery or significant fluctuations in weight. An abdominoplasty is not a substitue for weight loss or exercise and cannot correct stretch marks.. Want To Learn More? Click The Link Below:. ...
Abdominoplasty involves an incision made low on the abdomen that can generally be hidden underneath a patients underwear or bathing suit. The abdominal tissue is dissected off the underlying musculature and the musculature is tightened with sutures to its normal anatomical state. The excess skin and fat is then excised from the lower portion of the abdomen as it is pulled down in a window shade type fashion. In doing this, a majority of striae or stretch marks can also be removed. Unfortunately the only treatment for stretch marks at this time is excision as is performed in an abdominoplasty procedure.. Liposuction can be an adjunct to abdominoplasty. The surgeon must be selective in the areas to be liposuctioned otherwise the blood supply to the abdominal skin can be compromised. The love handle area can be safely suctioned at the time of an abdominoplasty. The abdominal wall itself should generally not be liposuctioned at the time of an abdominoplasty because of potential problems with ...
If you are considering a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or mommy makeover, there are advanced techniques in abdominoplasty that you should be aware of. An abdominoplasty is the best technique for improving the appearance of a protruding abdomen and reducing saggy or redundant skin around the middle. It is particularly popular following pregnancy where the muscle has been stretched and among those who have lost a significant amount of weight.. Typically when an abdominoplasty is performed, there is a need for patients to have suction drains left in the incision site for several days in order to prevent seroma (the accumulation of fluid). These plastic drains require being sutured to the skin and may be a cause of some discomfort and limit activity following surgery until they can be removed. They have long been one of the most uncomfortable features post-tummy tuck for my patients.. I have recently been utilizing two newer techniques in abdominoplasty with great success where there is no use of ...
The Superficial Facial System (SFS) is a connective tissue layer interlaced with the subcutaneous fat that lies between the deep dermis and abdominal fascia. Closure of the deep layers of fat with permanent braided nylon sutures integrates the strength of the (SFS) in the resulting abdominoplasty incision. The permanent stitches, which secure the deep layers of fat surrounded by the SFS, create a durable narrow scar and prevent a ledge effect that occurs when absorbable stitches are used on the deep fat layers. The muscles of the abdominal wall are sutured to treat muscle laxity and create an internal corset. The belly button position is transposed ...

What is the normal postoperative course?. The abdomen feels tight for the first few days after the operation and patients are not able to stand fully erect. On the first postoperative day an elasticated abdominal binder is applied to the abdomen for support and gentle mobilisation is begun. By the second postoperative day most patients are mobile and discharged home.. It is advisable to have help around the house and with young children for the first couple of weeks after surgery. At the end of two weeks most patients are able to drive, carry light shopping and prepare light meals. At the end of four weeks patients are expected to be able to return to normal lifestyle including gym, sport and aerobics unless they have had tightening of the abdominal muscles or repair of an abdominal hernia at the same time as the abdominoplasty.. ...
This procedure is designed for patients with some extra skin and fat, but not enough for all of the lower regions to be removed. This scar extends just beyond that for a caesarian section compared to the scar that goes from hip to hip in the full abdominoplasty. The tummy button is not touched and only the lower tummy is addressed in the procedure. The muscles are not generally tightened, but can be and this can be discussed during your consultation. This method is often used with liposuction ...
This is lady that I saw for some contouring surgery. She had been on a weight loss program that included exercise which pretty much plateaued. She wanted improvement in her breasts, flanks, and abdomen. She had a relatively square torso, slight abdominal pannus with a rounded abdomen, and a diastasis (separation of the rectus muscles in the midline). Her flank collections were moderate. She had good projection on her buttocks. She had a significant amount of fat inside her abdominal cavity which does limit how tight you can get the diastasis repair. She underwent a series of operations. The first was augmentation/mastopexy. She wanted her breasts larger and back up on her chest. In her case, we were able to accomplish that with scars about the circumference of the areola. She retained nipple sensation. Her breasts are now bigger and much fuller that no longer rest on her abdomen. She subsequently underwent an abdominoplasty with some suctioning of her flanks. The suctioning of the flanks was ...

Following the surgery, you must wear the compression garment day and night for three weeks and another three weeks during the day. The rest of the postoperative consultations are generally scheduled three weeks, three months and one year after the surgery. Intense physical activity must be avoided for six weeks. If your work does not require any physical activity you will be able to return after a few weeks but is recommended to stop working for four to six weeks. The final result is normally achieved two to three months after the surgery but it is possible that the scars display some redness from six to twelve months. The results of abdominoplasty are long term, and if you maintain a healthy lifestyle you can benefit from flat ...

An abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck, is a procedure performed on both men and women that involves removing excess fat and loose or sagging skin from the lower and central abdomen.
All surgical procedures, even for patients in good health, carry some risk and can result in unpredictable complications. Post-bariatric patients are at increased risk for post-operative complications.. It is of the utmost importance to implement all preventive measures to mitigate the risks where possible, by reducing and eliminating common risk factors such as smoking, obesity and concomitant disease, which are open to treatment before the operation. Likewise, it is crucial that patients follow meticulously all indications given by the surgeon post-operatively; correct wound management (sterility), intake of prescribed medications, appropriate pressure garments etc.. Despite the above-mentioned preventive measures some complications may still occur, fortunately to a minor extent in the majority of cases. Systemic complications, e. g. anaesthesia-related, are very rare. The complications related to post-bariatric abdominoplasty are mainly:. ...

So why do many cosmetic and plastic surgeons tell patients they wont do a tummy tuck on a patient if their BMI is over 30? Well, prior studies showed there may be higher risks of complications in obese patients. However, in a recently published study, the surgeons found that there was no significant difference in complications between obese and nonobese patients. They looked at risks of seroma (fluid collection under the skin) formation, wound dehiscence (separation), hematoma formation, surgical-site infection, and blood clots in the legs. The author concluded, we do believe that we have a sufficient number of patients to show that operating on obese patients is safe if not as safe as operating on nonobese patients. The results of our chart review suggest that physicians should not immediately advise obese patients against undergoing abdominoplasty.. So if you have a BMI over 30, what are other factors that would not allow you to be a safe candidate for a tummy tuck? If you have diabetes ...
Before electing a tummy tuck after c section procedure, you will have to wait. Your hormones need to get back to normal, and all of the changes that your body went through during pregnancy and delivery, such as the expansion of vessels, need time to regulate back to normalcy. This period can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, and it will be up to a physician to tell you when your body is fully healed. Another factor that can lengthen the amount of time you will need to wait is breast feeding. Until your breast milk has run dry, a tummy tuck after c section is not for you. Consider the fundamentals of breast feeding a baby and how difficult those tasks would be during a tummy tuck recovery period. This will help you understand the importance of delaying until this critical time is over.. Only your doctor can tell you if your body is ready for abdominoplasty. The time estimates given above are averages and may not reflect the healing of your individual body. In addition, its important to consider ...

You want to banish those love handles, or eliminate stretch marks, remove the fats on the neck. Liposuction will do it, you think. Before you add liposuction cost to that annual gym membership and killer bathing suit, tack on a tummy tuck. Liposuction cant tighten loose love handles or post-pregnancy stretch marks or loose skin due to rapid weight loss, for example also post-pregnancy or pre-high school reunion. Many plastic surgeons recommend getting a tummy tuck rather than (neck) liposuction body sculpting, since liposuction reduces abdominal fat and not the inner girdle that expands with pregnancy. However, opinion is divided: Some surgeons do a mini tummy tuck and tumescent liposuction, while others favor liposuction over surgical abdominoplasty to restore youthful appearance. Often, tummy tucks are done to tighten lax skin after liposuction. Frequently, surgeons combine the two with liposuction abdominoplasty or a mini tummy tuck on the lower abs that involves liposuction to remove excess ...

Full tummy tuck (aka abdominoplasty)- This involves making a cut along the lower abdomen and around the belly button so that all the skin can be lifted off the abdominal wall. Once this is done, any gap in the rectus muscles is repaired. Excess skin is then amputated (usually this means cutting off all the skin up to the bellybutton) and then the remaining skin is stretched down to close the belly. A hole is then made for the belly button to come out through. This leaves a scar along the lower abdomen slightly longer than a mini-tummy tuck scar and a scar around the belly button. A full abdominoplasty results in tighter skin both below and above the belly button in addition to flattening and tightening the belly through muscle repair ...
Tummy Tuck, also called Abdominoplasty, is a body contouring procedure that is performed to improve the appearance of the mid-section. For many people the mid-section is a difficult area to improve due to excess, sagging skin after a weight loss or after pregnancy. Stretched out abdominal muscles are also a concern for many after pregnancy and the abdominoplasty procedure can remove excess, sagging skin and tighten the abdominal muscles. Sometimes the tummy tuck procedure is performed in combination with liposuction to also remove stubborn fat from the area.. The tummy tuck is performed through an incision made in the lower abdomen from hip to hip-it should be noted that this incision will leave behind a permanent scar, though it is easily hidden by undergarments. If you are interested in learning more about this procedure and to find out if it may be right for you, contact our office to schedule your consultation today.. ...

The most common major complications that were covered were hematomas (collection of blood outside blood vessels that usually present as tense bulges in the skin and deeper tissues such as a wrestlers cauliflower ear), infections, blood clots and lung-related problems. This type of insurance does not cover minor complications and is separate from health insurance, which typically does not cover complications due to non-covered cosmetic surgery. The Full Abdominoplasty: A Traditional Tummy Tuck. A full tummy tuck is designed to remove excess fat and skin from the entire abdomen while restoring abdominal muscles that have been stretched or weakened over the years. Even individuals in relatively good physical condition may develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging, usually due to the effects of pregnancy, aging, heredity, or significant fluctuations in weight. A tummy tuck removes excess fat and while tightening abdominal muscles that may have become stretched out of shape. Then it helps to treat and reduce the excess, sagging skin from the area between the rib cage and the pelvis. This combination of effects make it particularly effective in helping men and women who have suffered significant fluctuations in weight or in returning a womans body to its pre-pregnancy condition as part of a mommy makeover combination procedure.. The Morgagni hernia is a diaphragmatic hernia which, like hiatal hernia, almost always has a peritoneal sac, unlike other diaphragmatic hernias such as the Bochdalek or those caused by traumatic breakage of the diaphragm. Its transverse diameter is usually greater than anterior-posterior diameter [1]. They contain, from greater to lesser frequency: Omentum (31%), transverse colon (29%), stomach (15%), small intestine (11%), liver (4%), caecum, or appendix [1,3].. Although the Morgagni hernia is considered a congenital defect, diagnosed in small children, it is usually detected in an adult, either accidentally in medical imaging requested for another reason, or in most cases, symptomatically [2,3,5,6]. This would indicate that additional mechanisms acquired by an adult age are necessary to increase intra-abdominal pressure (obesity, pregnancy, ascites, chronic constipation, paralytic ileus, injury, etc.) to cause the visceral hernia that leads to symptomatic presentation [1,3,4].. This ...

Back in July, 2015 I was presented a patient looking to enhance her shape by lifting her breast and contouring the abdomen. During the consultation and examination we detected two weak spots in the abdominal wall, which she stated, she was having pain during certain activities or in certain positions. We discussed her expectation and agreed that we would proceed with a Breast Augmentation with lift, tummy tuck and repairing the two hernias.. For the procedure we had a general surgeon repair the hernias, and then I performed the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) along with a breast lift and 350cc saline breast implant filled to 370cc to her right breast and 350cc filled to 380cc to the left breast.. As you can see, after only six months post op, the patient is looking fantastic, and Im very pleased with her recovery.. They sound like the same procedure, but the stomach and abdomen are two different surgical procedures. That being said, they complement each other. Heres what you need to know about them to clear up any mistakes:. Abdominal stapling is a bariatric procedure, or weight loss. It is also referred to as gastrolplasty or gastric stapling. Surgical staples are actually used to divide the stomach into two parts making the upper abdomen smaller. As a method of weight loss, this procedure works by making the stomach smaller to reduce the amount you can eat in one sitting. You feel faster so you dont eat too much.. Instead, abdominal tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin from around the stomach. Your plastic surgeon makes slips across the genital area and around the navel so that he can lift the skin and pull it tight. Then he removed the excess skin. She also tightens the abdominal wall because it is also compromised during pregnancy or weight gain.. Stomach tuck is ...
After the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift surgery, the upper arms are either wrapped or placed in an elastic sleeve to reduce swelling. Initial healing usually occurs in 10 to 14 days after the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift. Sutures are usually removed within the first 2 to 3 weeks after the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift. Swelling and bruising gradually disappear 3 to 4 weeks after the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift. All swelling is gone 3 to 6 months after the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift. The scars fade 6 to 24 months after the Brachioplasty or Upper Arm Lift, depending on youThe final appearance of the scar depends exclusively on genetic and physical aspects of the patient. After the procedure, it is possible to notice a fine scar. However, how the scar is going to be after all depends on each patient. Braquioplasty can be performed together with Breast Implants and/or Abdominoplasty. ...

Panniculus, sometimes referred to incorrectly as FUPA (Fat Upper Pelvic Area) or pannus,[1] is a medical term describing a dense layer of fatty tissue growth, consisting of subcutaneous fat in the lower abdominal area.[2] Panniculi can form after rapid weight loss, as seen with strict exercise plans - in this case, the abdominal fat is successfully reduced, but excess skin is left behind which hangs loosely over the area. It can be a result of obesity and can be mistaken for a tumor or hernia. Abdominal panniculus can be removed during abdominal panniculectomy, a type of abdominoplasty. A panniculus can also be the result of loose tissues after pregnancy or massive weight loss.[3]. ...

Date: 06/22/2010 Submitted by: Lennon. Hi there…. Thank you for all the information on your website!. So here is the deal… I am a 28 year old male in need of some advice on abdominoplasty. I have had several back surgeries in the past 4 years, but now my back is in perfect shape. The last surgery was September of 2008, when I had Anterior Spinal Fusion at the L5/S1 level. Anterior, of course, meant that they went through the front. I now have a scar, horizontal, approximately. 6-7″ across my stomach above my hips on the left side. Before surgery, I had about 5-7 lbs. to lose in that area. I am not fat, but rather, I have a very flabby gut that looks disgusting to me and I am sure to others. I am very self-conscious about it, and I would feel o much better about myself if I did not have such ...
