Amnionbandsyndrom
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a common overuse injury characterized by lateral knee pain in runners, cyclists, and other athletes. It results from inflammation and irritation of the iliotibial band, a thick band of fascia that runs from the hip down to the knee, and its attachment to the femur. The IT band helps stabilize the knee during movement, but repetitive friction between the band and the bone can cause pain and discomfort, typically experienced at the outside (lateral) part of the knee joint. Proper treatment may include rest, physical therapy, stretching exercises, and occasionally orthotics or corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms.
