Can a lab tell the difference if you took clartin d or street meth made from clartin d?

Definitely will come out positive but common sense tells me, how can the must trained forensic scientists have the ability to know where pseudoephedrine or ephedrines originally come from whatever brand.  Moreover,  it's chemical structure in its pure form?
