Russian Worries Grow As Secretive Obama “Shock Troops” Deploy Across America Posted by EU Times on Feb 6th, 2014 // 7 Comments. A highly concerning urgent action report issued today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs MoFA is warning that “American internal stability” has now entered into a “more dangerous and critical phase” after Main Intelligence Directorate GRU intelligence assests began reporting the large-scale deployment of what are called Obama regime “shock troops” throughout the United States this past week. The “shock troops” currently being deployed by the Obama regime, this report explains, number nearly 800,000 and were “activated” this past month under Section 5210 of the controversial US law titled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act PPACA titled “Establishing a Ready Reserve Corps” and stating that this for...

... Washington, DC: Association of Public Health Laboratories, 2000. Department of Health and Human Services, including CDC, established laboratory priorities for bioterrorism preparedness. In this report, we focus on one component the state public health laboratories of one critical piece of the public health infrastructure laboratories and relate the consensus view of the membership of APHL regarding the core functions and capabilities of SPHLs. APHL's resulting strategic plan reflected the priority needs and activities of APHL and guided their mission in defining the role of SPHLs in two of their strategic goals for 1999--2001: 1 to ensure that essential laboratory services are available to support public health activities in the changing health-care environment, and 2 to advocate effectively for public health laboratories through legislation, policy development, and public information 29. ... One influential hand in that on-going societal change is Wabash College graduate, Bronson Frick ’95. Frick is the Associate Director for Americans for Non-smokers Rights based in Berkeley. His organization has provided grass root support and training to groups trying to pass such ordinances. Crawfordsville’s City Council was poised to enact a smoke-free law but but did not take a final vote when the city's mayor threatened a veto. On June 27 in Washington D.C. Carmona presented the nation’s first full report on second-hand smoke since 1986. We’ll be there on behalf of all our members, on behalf of all the flight attendants who died from second-hand smoke and everyone else that’s still being exposed.". The two years he spent at Willard gave him entry into the world of psychiatry. In 1911, the New York State Commission in Lunacy asked the Public Health Service to grant Salmon a leave of absence from the Public Health Service to study the problems of foreign-born patients in state mental hospitals. During the years of Salmon’s work in the Public Health Service, a new movement was under way. With their help, Beers organized the Connecticut Association for Mental Hygiene and the following year he led the formation of the National Committee for Mental Hygiene. Salmon joined the National Committee for Mental Hygiene. In 1915, Salmon was given the title of Medical Director of the National Committee for Mental Hygiene and he resigned from Public Health Service. His visit resulted in a detailed report titled 'The Care and Treatment of Mental Disorders and war neuroses Shell Shock in the British Army' and included recommendations for a U.S. Salmon left the National Committee for Mental Hygiene in 1922 when he accepte...

(1/134) Office of Research Integrity: a reflection of disputes and misunderstandings.

Each year, the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) provides billions of dollars to support over 30,000 extramural research grants to more than 2,000 institutions in the U.S. and other countries. The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) is responsible for protecting the integrity of the research supported by the grants awarded for the PHS extramural research program. One of its responsibilities includes monitoring investigations into alleged or suspected scientific misconduct by institutions that receive the PHS funds. However, not all of the alleged or suspected scientific misconduct meet the the PHS definition of scientific misconduct. Among the wide range of allegations that the ORI receives are those that are ultimately determined to be authorship disputes. This article will report on ORI's functions and review some of the commonly reported allegations that do not constitute scientific misconduct according to the PHS definition.  (+info)

(2/134) Cigarettes and the US Public Health Service in the 1950s.

The conclusion of the United States Surgeon General's Advisory Committee on Smoking and Health in 1964 that excessive cigarette smoking causes lung cancer is cited as the major turning point for public health action against cigarettes. But the surgeon general and US Public Health Service (PHS) scientists had concluded as early as 1957 that smoking was a cause of lung cancer, indeed, "the principal etiologic factor in the increased incidence of lung cancer." Throughout the 1950s, however, the PHS rejected further tobacco-related public health actions, such as placing warning labels on cigarettes or creating educational programs for schools. Instead, the agency continued to gather information and provided occasional assessments of the evidence as it came available. It was not until pressure mounted from outside the PHS in the early 1960s that more substantive action was taken. Earlier action was not taken because of the way in which PHS scientists (particularly those within the National Institutes of Health) and administrators viewed their roles in relation to science and public health.  (+info)

(3/134) Acceptance of HIV testing during prenatal care. Perinatal Guidelines Evaluation Project.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the factors associated with acceptance of HIV testing during pregnancy on the part of women receiving prenatal care at public clinics. METHODS: Trained interviewers recruited and interviewed 1,357 women receiving prenatal care at clinics in Florida, Connecticut, and New York City. RESULTS: Eighty-six percent of participants reported having been tested or having signed a consent form to be tested. Acceptance of testing was found to be related to strong beliefs about the benefits of testing, knowledge about vertical transmission, perceived provider endorsement of testing, and social support. Women who declined testing said they did so because they did not perceive themselves to be at risk for HIV (21%) or they faced administrative difficulties (16%) with some aspect of the testing process (for example, scheduling, limited availability of pre-test counselors). CONCLUSIONS: Acceptance rates can be increased when women understand the modes of vertical transmission and the role of medication regimens in preventing transmission; believe that prenatal identification of HIV can promote the health of mother and child; and perceive their providers as strongly endorsing testing. These points can be woven into a brief pre-test counseling message and made a routine component of prenatal care.  (+info)

(4/134) Trends in HIV testing among pregnant women: United States, 1994-1999.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated 1995 guidelines for HIV testing of pregnant women. METHODS: Analysis focused on Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data for the years 1994 through 1999. Data were aggregated across states. RESULTS: Percentages of pregnant women tested for HIV increased from 1995 to 1996 (from 41% to 53%) and again from 1997 (52%) to 1998 (60%). CONCLUSIONS: After implementation of the guidelines, the percentage of pregnant women tested for HIV increased, although nearly half had not been tested. More efforts are needed to encourage women to undergo testing for HIV during pregnancy, thus maximizing opportunities for offering antiretroviral therapy.  (+info)

(5/134) Public health law reform.

Public health law reform is necessary because existing statutes are outdated, contain multiple layers of regulation, and are inconsistent. A model law would define the mission and functions of public health agen cies, provide a full range of flexible powers, specify clear criteria and procedures for activities, and provide protections for privacy and against discrimination. The law reform process provides an opportunity for public health agencies to draw attention to their resource needs and achievements and to form ties with constituency groups and enduring relations with the legislative branch of government. Ultimately, the law should become a catalyst, rather than an impediment, to reinvigorating the public health system.  (+info)

(6/134) The role of state public health agencies in genetics and disease prevention: results of a national survey.

OBJECTIVES: The onset and severity of the clinical expression of most diseases that are of public health importance are influenced by genetic predisposition. The ability to assess human genetic predisposition for many diseases is increasing rapidly. Therefore, state public health agencies should be incorporating new developments in genetics and disease prevention into their core functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance. The authors assessed the status of this process. METHODS: The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) surveyed states about projects and concerns related to genetics and public health activities. Respondents were the Health Officer, the Maternal and Child Health/Genetics Program Director, the Chronic Disease Program Director, and the Laboratory Director. Where applicable, responses were categorized into assessment, policy development, and assurance functions. RESULTS: Thirty-eight (76%) state health departments responded. Ongoing genetics activities were assurance (82%), assessment (17%), and policy development (2%). In contrast, Health Officers responded that future genetics activities would be distributed differently: assurance, 41%; assessment, 36%; and policy development, 23%. Future assurance activities would be largely educational. Topics of interest and recently initiated activities in genetics were primarily assessment functions. Funding was the greatest concern, followed by lack of proven disease prevention measures and outcomes data. CONCLUSIONS: State health departments recognize a need to realign their activities to meet future developments in genetics. Lack of adequate resources, proven disease prevention measures, and outcomes data are potential barriers. Public health agencies need to develop a strategic plan to meet the opportunities associated with the development and implementation of genetic tests and procedures.  (+info)

(7/134) The U.S. Surgeon General's report on oral health in America: A Canadian perspective.

This paper provides an overview of last year's U.S. Surgeon General's report on oral health, describes the burden of oral diseases and craniofacial disorders in the United States, and draws parallels with the state of dental health in Canada and in the province of Ontario. It concludes by focusing on the report's recommendations for future action and briefly notes some of the lessons that Canadians can learn from these findings. The goal of this paper is to stimulate further discussion of the issues raised in the report, in an effort to encourage public-private partnerships dedicated to the creation and support of programs to make oral health a more integral component of general health.  (+info)

(8/134) Science, politics, and ideology in the campaign against environmental tobacco smoke.

The issue of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) and the harms it causes to nonsmoking bystanders has occupied a central place in the rhetoric and strategy of antismoking forces in the United States over the past 3 decades. Beginning in the 1970s, anti-tobacco activists drew on suggestive and incomplete evidence to push for far-reaching prohibitions on smoking in a variety of public settings. Public health professionals and other antismoking activists, although concerned about the potential illness and death that ETS might cause in nonsmokers, also used restrictions on public smoking as a way to erode the social acceptability of cigarettes and thereby reduce smoking prevalence. This strategy was necessitated by the context of American political culture, especially the hostility toward public health interventions that are overtly paternalistic.  (+info)

Using a scale of from 1 to 10, how effective is the public health system in the United States?

How effective is the public health system in this US compared to other countries and if you give a rating please explain your rating.

I need you guy's thoughts on this.
----------

I would say about a 5. My reason is because it is very difficult and expensive for most families to even afford good medical care. It's not a fair system, and the only reason it is a 5 is because we do have hospitals like the Mayo Clinic that are world known, but most states it is unfair

What is the best way to solve the problem of health care in the United States?

I need some good insight of how to solve the problem of health care in the United States.  I have to write a paper on it and I don't know where to start.  I don't know much about Obama's plan or what we have now, so any opinion would be great, thanks!
----------

It's always best to go straight to the source for info. In light of that, I recommend starting at this site from the White House:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/health_care

If you see for yourself what the goal for the Health Care issue is from the people proposing it you can then branch out and listen/read others views and opinions on it, thus eventually establishing your own take.

As per your request for opinions:

Our family has been on both sides of the health insurance scenario. In the 50's-60's when health care was run successfully as not-for-profit entities people could more readily afford care and companies still thrived, though there were still folks who slipped through the cracks. In our experience, in the recent decades, the switch to healthcare-for-profit has crippled the country in many ways. The local doctors/nurses/hospitals that we know personally in my county are actively supporting the call for Health Reform.

We also have extended family in several 1st World Democratic nations (Canada and Europe). They live well, are well educated, are free citizens in free countries, and healthy. They are astounded at the mis-information out there on their country's health care. They pay higher taxes than us but have higher incomes for the same type of jobs, which balances that fact, and so live equally as well as we do. Again, this is our personal experience which has influenced our opinions.

I have no problem as a citizen of a government run by the people, for the people, seeing my tax dollars used to improve my fellow countryman's health.

A. Public health looks at everyone from all over. We (I'm an epidemiologist) are concerned with things that may be coming down the pike and hit all of us (like bird flu, etc.). Community health mostly involves doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals that tailor interventions to a particular community's needs, and they generally don't plan out for "the bigger picture", although they do a heck a job in their locales, since they know it better.

What happen to Americans health freedom? Nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children?

One section of the economic stimulus bill designates nearly a billion dollars for new vaccinations of children.

$954,000,000 shall be used as an additional amount to carry out the immunization program authorized by section 317(a), (j), and (k)(1) of the Public Health Service Act ("section 317 immunization program")
What is sweeping health care reform doing hidden inside an economic stimulus bill?
----------

I don't know about the US, but parents of 4-out-of-5 Canadian kids born between 1971 and 1990 failed to get them fully vaccinated against mumps, probably for a variety of reasons including sheer ignorance of the fact that you need two shots, not just one, for full immunity.

Mumps in adults is a potentially serious condition:

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/Mumps+message+fails+spread/1217663/story.html

AND there's always the danger of passing it on to someone else unawares.

So here's the right question:

How free are you to endanger others when simple, safe remedies are available to greatly reduce or even eliminate such dangers?

What's a really good way to gain experience in the field of public health during the summer?

I would like to pursue my education in public health. I'm from a social science/international development background. I am mostly interested in injuries, violence, mental health and women's health. I'm volunteering at the Sexual Assault Center but I'm sure there's something else I could do during the summer.
----------

You can also try volunteering at any state run facility for the mentally handicapped. There you will find mental,physical, and aggressive behavior patients all at one facility. You will probably have to go through a 2 week safety training session for both the safety of yourself and the people there. You might also try to volunteer at a place for women that have been in a physically abusive relationship. I would imagine you might have to go though the state or county for that because of the safety issues. Good luck and God Bless. This is a very hard career to work in. I actually did most of my nursing in a state facility. People like yourself are desperately needed and I'm sure you'll find that there are so many rewards that you'll be glad you did. It's a very hard job, but your will be gratified in the care of the people that you come in contact with.

How is being a food server different in the United States than in Britain?

How is the art of serving executed in the United States vs anywhere else, say Britain for example? Is the food served from left to right? Order taken from left to right? How is everything done?
----------

I think we have more etiquette rules in the UK, as the first answer indicates, but we aren't as enthusiastic, I do mystery shopping, and am often asked to comment on phrases fast food servers are meant to say, but frankly, if someone in McDonald's said to me, OH good choice the fries are good and hot today, I would back away from them and try not to make eye contact, but if an American said that i would just eye them suspiciously and say GOOD! English people do not like to be over engaged like that, polite unobtrusive, efficient service is most appreciated here.
