Memristor pronounced / m mr st r/; a portmanteau of "memory resistor" is a passive two-terminal electrical component in which there is a functional relationship between electric charge and magnetic flux linkage. When current flows in one direction through the device, the electrical resistance increases; and when current flows in the opposite direction, the resistance decreases. When the current is stopped, the component retains the last resistance that it had, and when the flow of charge starts again, the resistance of the circuit will be what it was when it was last active. It has a regime of operation with an approximately linear charge-resistance relationship as long as the time-integral of the current stays within certain bounds. Memristor t...

COMPUTING SCIENCE The Memristor The first new passive circuit element since the 1830s might transform computer hardware Brian Hayes Switching in Time The transistor is a three-terminal device, with three connections to the rest of the circuit. It acts as a switch or amplifier, with a voltage applied to one terminal controlling a current flowing between the other two terminals. No such design is possible with memristors, which have just two terminals. But memristors can nonetheless be used to build both memory and digital logic. The key is to exploit the memristor s built-in sense of history: A signal applied at one instant can affect another signal that later travels the same path. The first signal exerts this control by setting the internal state of t...

There is, however, no such thing as a standard memristor different designs can implement different functions. Memristors can take on various physical incarnations: titanium dioxide, polymeric, and ferroelectric memristors have all recently been developed. Researchers from the University of the West of England in Bristol have now created, or rather discovered, memristors in the living form of Physarum polycephalum, otherwise known as the slime mold. Stanford team builds first digital holographic video/data storage system A physicist and two members of his lab have demonstrated the first working, fully automated, digital holographic storage system for video, data and sound. With what they've learned, they predict it will be possible to store hundreds of billions of bytes of digital data and retrieve them at a rate of billions of bits per second with a high degree of accuracy. STANFORD -- Suspended above the worktable in Lambertus Hesselink's lab is a clear crystal block of lithium niobate the size of two sugar cubes. Two slim laser beams converge in its interior. The crystal glows green. Invisible to the viewer, the patterns of electrons inside the clear block are rearranged and a series of images are stored. Next, one beam searches the cube alone. It reflects the pattern of those rearranged electrons and relays them to a v...

Light stopped completely for a minute inside a crystal: The basis of quantum memory By Sebastian Anthony on July 25, 2013 at 6:49 am. Comment. Share This article. Scientists at the University of Darmstadt in Germany have stopped light for one minute. For one whole minute, light, which is usually the fastest thing in the known universe and travels at 300 million meters per second, was stopped dead still inside a crystal. This effectively creates light memory, where the image being carried by the light is stored in crystals. Beyond being utterly cool, this breakthrough could lead to the creation of long-range quantum networks and perhaps, tantalizingly, this re...

Currently, pumped-hydro storage systems provide more than 127,000 MW of worldwide storage capacity while compressed air energy storage systems, battery technologies, and flywheels provide less than 860 MW of installed storage capacity. During periods of lower priced electricity, water pumps remove water from the lower reservoir to the higher reservoir. Underground CAES systems have the potential for high power ratings over 400 MW and long discharge durations measured in hours that allow it to provide generation storage applications. Currently, aboveground CAES systems are still in development. Aboveground systems will provide CAES storage on a much smaller-scale between 1 to 15 MW and will target transmission and distribution support applications. Flow-cell batteries provide another form of battery storage. Battery storage systems are one of the most versatile energy storage systems. Battery systems provide a wide range in power output for both large and small scale applications, application specific output...

... Keep me signed in Would you like us to keep you signed in on this computer. Current Issue. Scientists' Nightstand. In its natural form titania is an electrical insulator, presenting very high resistance to the flow of electric current. The resulting oxygen vacancies in the crystal lattice reduce the resistance of the material by supplying mobile electrons that can carry a current. The oxygen-starved layer is said to be doped. An electric current passing through the memristor has to cross both the doped and the undoped regions, and so the total resistance is the sum of contributions from the two layers. The total depends on the relative thickness of the layers, or in other words on the position of the boundary between them. The current is carried by conduction electrons—mostly electrons liberated by the oxygen vacancies. The oxygen vacancies also have an electric charge; they act as positive ions, which drift toward the negative electrode. The relatively slow drift of the oxygen vacancies makes no signi...

*  Cascade storage system
thumb|right|Hydrogen cascade storage system A 'cascade storage system' is a high pressure gas cylinder system which is used for the refilling of smaller compressed gas cylinder s or air cylinders. When gas contained in a cylinder at high pressure is allowed to flow to another cylinder containing gas at a lower pressure, the pressures will equalise to a value somewhere between the two initial pressures. The equilibrium pressure is affected by transfer rate as it will be influenced by temperature, but at constant temperature the equilibrium pressure is described by Dalton's law of partial pressures and Boyle's law for ideal gases. where P 1 and V 1 are the initial pressure and volume of one cylinder P 2 and V 2 the initial pressure and volume of the other cylinder and P 3 is the equilibrium pressure. An example could be a 100-litre internal volume cylinder V 1 pressurised to 200 bar P 1 filling a 10-litre internal volume cylinder V 2 which was unpressurised P 2 = 1 bar resulting in both cylinder equalising to a...

A single-copy NVRAM cache creates a single point of failure while a dual-copy NVRAM cache is very expensive because of the high cost of NVRAM. This paper presents a new cache architecture called b RAPID-Cache /b for it Redundant, Asymmetrically Parallel, and Inexpensive Disk Cache /it. One of the buffers is a primary cache made of RAM or NVRAM and the other is a backup cache containing a two-level hierarchy: a small NVRAM buffer on top of a log disk. NEWS & ANALYSIS:. News & Analysis. Memristors--the fourth passive component type after resistors, capacitors and inductors--were postulated in a seminal 1971 paper in the IEEE Transactions on Circuit Theory by professor Leon Chua at the University of California Berkeley , but their first realization was just announced today by HP. "Mendeleev postulated that there were elements missing from the table, and now all those elements have been found. Likewise, Stanley Williams at HP Labs has now found the first example of the missing memristor circuit element." When Chua wrote his seminal paper, he used mathematics to deduce the existence of a fourth circuit element type after resistors, capacitors and inductors, which he called a memristor, because it "remembers" changes in the current passing through it by changing its resistance. Now HP claims to have discovered the first instance of a memristor, which it created with a bi-level titanium dioxide thin-film that changes its resistance when current passes through it...

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 HP Labs in Palo Alto has been leading the development of the “ memristor,” and researchers there have finally discovered the underlying mechanism for the formation of devices that can function as memory cells, logic circuits, and potentially even real artificial intelligence AI. Disclosing these results in his plenary speech to the attendees at the Nanocontacts and Nanointerconnects Workshop at the Spring 2010 Materials Research Society meeting on April 5th in San Francisco, HP Labs group leader Stan Williams figure explained how to make memristors without use of the hitherto-uncontrollable “electroforming” step. At geometries near optimal for memristor function, a 1-2nm thin TiO2 layer remained as a tunnel barrier. The width of the tunnel barrier then changed by ~0.5nm by the movement of ions within the oxide during memristor function. While additional materials engineering is needed to create high-yielding memristor arrays in high-volume manufacturing HVM, it looks like ev...

Cal/OSHA Awards IBM with Cal/STAR Rating for Safety SAN FRANCISCO-- California Division of Occupational Safety and Health Chief John Howard this week announced that International Business Machines Corporation's Storage Systems Division, located in San Jose, has been named a Cal/STAR participant under the California Voluntary Protection Program Cal/VPP. "IBM's Storage Systems Division has shown a professional commitment to ensure its workplace meets these high standards. Howard said before any California business gains Cal/STAR recognition, the Cal/OSHA Consultation Service thoroughly reviews safety measures and program procedures established by the company to ensure that they meet stringent Cal/VPP criteria. A significant attribute of companies that have made the Cal/VPP list, like IBM's Storage Systems Division, is a less than average injury and illness rate, often a measure of the effectiveness of a company's safety and health program. Participation in Cal/VPP is based on having had, over a three-year perio...

The invention classifies volumes e.g., file systems or LUNs of a data storage system according to application requirements and allocates space for the volumes on storage devices e.g., hard disk drives accordingly. A person such as an IT administrator configures the volumes specifying size, type e.g., file system or SAN LUN, and priority e.g., high, medium, low, or archive. The host schedules I/O requests to the storage devices in priority queues using the volume definition to match the application requirements and reduce storage seek time between volumes of different priorities. The host also allocates high performance bands of the storage devices to high performance applications and lower performance bands to lower performance applications. In this manner, the data storage system places data on the band of the storage device ...

LA Metro turning on kinetic energy storage. Rapid Transit. LA Metro turning on kinetic energy storage. The Los Angeles Metro Red Line Westlake/MacArthur Park station will soon be operating a REGEN high-speed kinetic energy storage system developed by VYCON. “The project will demonstrate how VYCON’s green regenerative technology stores energy generated by braking trains and redistributes that energy to rail lines to accelerating trains—vastly improving energy usage that otherwise would be wasted in the form of heat,” said VYCON President Frank DeLattre. “In addition to energy recycling, REGEN also captures the train’s DC power and uses it to reduce peak power demands in the system and provide voltage support where low voltages are critical during operation,” said DeLattre. The heavy energy cycling demands of commuter and light rail present a great opportunity to validate the value that our highly efficient, kinetic energy storage systems can provide. DeLattre said VYCON has been collaborating with several tran...

*  A SAN with a plan -- GCN
... Cloud. SANs connect storage and backup devices to servers and clusters of servers to consolidate storage and make it easier to expand and manage the network. Fibre Channel switches create virtual dedicated connections between servers and storage devices, guaranteeing throughput. Now, with recent events reawakening interest in technologies such as off-site mirroring of applications for disaster recovery, the storage management headache has grown more severe. These dedicated networks connect servers, or clusters of servers, to pools of data storage and archiving devices at higher transfer rates and over greater distances than are practical with conventional storage connection technologies. This flexibility lets Fibre Channel support multiple storage applications. One way Fibre Channel technology takes advantage of the flexibility is by tunneling over IP networks'including Ethernet. Tunneling can be especially useful for mirroring data from site to site over a metropolitan network or WAN, either in support ...

Cascade storage system: A cascade storage system is a high pressure gas cylinder system which is used for the refilling of smaller compressed gas cylinders or air cylinders. Each of the large cylinders is filled by a compressor, but the cascade system allows small cylinders to be filled without a compressor.Conference and Labs of the Evaluation Forum: The Conference and Labs of the Evaluation Forum (formerly Cross-Language Evaluation Forum), or CLEF, is an organization promoting research in multilingual information access (currently focusing on European languages). Its specific functions are to maintain an underlying framework for testing information retrieval systems and to create repositories of data for researchers to use in developing comparable standards.Explicit memory: Explicit memory is the conscious, intentional recollection of previous experiences and information. People use explicit memory throughout the day, such as remembering the time of an appointment or recollecting an event from years ago.Retrograde signaling: Retrograde signaling in biology is a process whereby function of one part of a cell is controlled by feedback from another part of the cell, or where one cell sends reciprocal messages back to another cell that regulates it.Homeostatic plasticity: In neuroscience, homeostatic plasticity refers to the capacity of neurons to regulate their own excitability relative to network activity, a compensatory adjustment that occurs over the timescale of days. Synaptic scaling has been proposed as a potential mechanism of homeostatic plasticity.Silent synapse: In neuroscience, a silent synapse is an excitatory glutamatergic synapse whose postsynaptic membrane contains NMDA-type glutamate receptors but no AMPA-type glutamate receptors. These synapses are named "silent" because normal AMPA receptor-mediated signaling is not present, rendering the synapse inactive under typical conditions.Place cellCortical stimulation mapping: Cortical stimulation mapping (often shortened to CSM) is a type of electrocorticography that involves a physically invasive procedure and aims to localize the function of specific brain regions through direct electrical stimulation of the cerebral cortex. It remains one of the earliest methods of analyzing the brain and has allowed researchers to study the relationship between cortical structure and systemic function.HSD2 neurons: HSD2 neurons are a small group of neurons in the brainstem which are uniquely sensitive to the mineralocorticosteroid hormone aldosterone, through expression of HSD11B2. They are located within the caudal medulla oblongata, in the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS).Spaced retrieval: Spaced retrieval, also known as expanded retrieval or uniform retrieval, is a learning technique, which requires users to rehearse information to be learned at different and increasing spaced intervals of time or a set uniform amount of time.Haslam, C.Food storage container: Food storage containers are widespread in use throughout the world and have probably been in use since the first human civilisations.Time-Based Prospective Memory: Time-based prospective memory is a type of prospective memory in which remembrance is triggered by a time-related cue that indicates that a given action needs to be performed. An example is remembering to watch a television program at 3 p.Storage protein: Storage proteins are biological reserves of metal ions and amino acids, used by organisms. They are found in plant seeds, egg whites, and milk.Concurrency semantics: In computer science, concurrency semantics is a way to give meaning to concurrent systems in a mathematically rigorous way. Concurrency semantics is often based on mathematical theories of concurrency such as various process calculi, the actor model, or Petri nets.Statistical relational learning: Statistical relational learning (SRL) is a subdiscipline of artificial intelligence and machine learning that is concerned with domain models that exhibit both uncertainty (which can be dealt with using statistical methods) and complex, relational structure. Typically, the knowledge representation formalisms developed in SRL use (a subset of) first-order logic to describe relational properties of a domain in a general manner (universal quantification) and draw upon probabilistic graphical models (such as Bayesian networks or Markov networks) to model the uncertainty; some also build upon the methods of inductive logic programming.List of hematologic conditions: There are many conditions of or affecting the human hematologic system — the biological system that includes plasma, platelets, leukocytes, and erythrocytes, the major components of blood and the bone marrow.Temporal analysis of products: Temporal Analysis of Products (TAP), (TAP-2), (TAP-3) is an experimental technique for studyingOvarian tissue cryopreservation: Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is cryopreservation of tissue of the ovary of a female.HyperintensityNatural cycle in vitro fertilization: Natural Cycle IVF is in vitro fertilisation (IVF) using either of the following procedures:Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System: The Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) provides clinicians and researchers access to reliable, valid, and flexible measures of health status that assess physical, mental, and social well–being from the patient perspective. PROMIS measures are standardized, allowing for assessment of many patient-reported outcome domains—including pain, fatigue, emotional distress, physical functioning and social role participation—based on common metrics that allow for comparisons across domains, across chronic diseases, and with the general population.Cue stick: A cue stick (or simply cue, more specifically pool cue, snooker cue, or billiards cue), is an item of sporting equipment essential to the games of pool, snooker and carom billiards. (1/4985) Imagene: an integrated computer environment for sequence annotation and analysis.

MOTIVATION: To be fully and efficiently exploited, data coming from sequencing projects together with specific sequence analysis tools need to be integrated within reliable data management systems. Systems designed to manage genome data and analysis tend to give a greater importance either to the data storage or to the methodological aspect, but lack a complete integration of both components. RESULTS: This paper presents a co-operative computer environment (called Imagenetrade mark) dedicated to genomic sequence analysis and annotation. Imagene has been developed by using an object-based model. Thanks to this representation, the user can directly manipulate familiar data objects through icons or lists. Imagene also incorporates a solving engine in order to manage analysis tasks. A global task is solved by successive divisions into smaller sub-tasks. During program execution, these sub-tasks are graphically displayed to the user and may be further re-started at any point after task completion. In this sense, Imagene is more transparent to the user than a traditional menu-driven package. Imagene also provides a user interface to display, on the same screen, the results produced by several tasks, together with the capability to annotate these results easily. In its current form, Imagene has been designed particularly for use in microbial sequencing projects. AVAILABILITY: Imagene best runs on SGI (Irix 6.3 or higher) workstations. It is distributed free of charge on a CD-ROM, but requires some Ilog licensed software to run. Some modules also require separate license agreements. (2/4985) A model for enhancing Internet medical document retrieval with "medical core metadata".

OBJECTIVE: Finding documents on the World Wide Web relevant to a specific medical information need can be difficult. The goal of this work is to define a set of document content description tags, or metadata encodings, that can be used to promote disciplined search access to Internet medical documents. DESIGN: The authors based their approach on a proposed metadata standard, the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, which has recently been submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force. Their model also incorporates the National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) vocabulary and MEDLINE-type content descriptions. RESULTS: The model defines a medical core metadata set that can be used to describe the metadata for a wide variety of Internet documents. CONCLUSIONS: The authors propose that their medical core metadata set be used to assign metadata to medical documents to facilitate document retrieval by Internet search engines.  (+info)

(3/4985) Incompleteness and retrieval of case notes in a case note audit of colorectal cancer.

Hospital case notes are a crucial source of data but are subject to two major biases: incompleteness of data and non-retrieval. To assess these biases in relation to colorectal cancer a study was performed of all cases of colorectal cancer listed in the Thames cancer registry in patients resident in one of four districts in South Thames regions with a diagnosis in 1988. Five medical record sites were involved. Retrieval rate for all case notes for districts combined was 80%. In two districts the rates were too high for further investigation; in the other two respectively patient survival and whether treatment was given were positively associated with retrieval. Among the four districts incompleteness of notes ranged from 38% to 62% for staging, 8% to 40% for treatment, and 70% to 25% for diagnostic tests. Information about treatment was missing in 3% to 20%; survival data were omitted in less than 5%. In all districts completeness of case notes was inadequate and in some non-retrieval compounded the problem. Missing data reduce the quality of cancer registry data and potentially undermine interpretation of epidemiological studies and evaluation of care. Further research is warranted into the standards and resourcing of medical records departments and their effects on retrieval and data quality. Structured proformas could be applied across specialties to identify missing items in case notes, to identify areas where standards are required, or to audit notes where standards have already been agreed. A staging protocol to set standards for colorectal cancer has been adopted in one district, and a prospective audit is being established.  (+info)

(4/4985) Comparative hospital databases: value for management and quality.

OBJECTIVES: To establish an accurate and reliable comparative database of discharge abstracts and to appraise its value for assessments of quality of care. DESIGN: Retrospective review of case notes by trained research abstractors and comparison with matched information as routinely collected by the hospitals' own information systems. SETTING: Three district general hospitals and two major London teaching hospitals. PATIENTS: The database included 3905 medical and surgical cases and 2082 obstetric cases from 1990 and 1991. MAIN MEASURES: Accessibility of case notes; measures of reliability between reviewers and of validity of case note content; application of high level quality indicators. RESULTS: The existing hospital systems extracted insufficient detail from case notes to conduct clinical comparative analyses for medical and surgical cases. The research abstractors at least doubled the diagnostic codes extracted. Interabstractor agreement of about 70% was obtained for primary diagnosis and assignment to diagnosis related group. These data were sufficient to create a comparative database and apply high level quality indicators designed to flag topics for further study. For obstetric-specific indicators the rates were comparable for abstractors and the hospital information systems, which in each case was a departmentally based system (SMMIS) producing more detailed and accessible data. CONCLUSIONS: Current methods of extracting and coding diagnostic and procedural data from case notes in this sample of hospitals is unsatisfactory: notes were difficult to access and recording is unacceptably incomplete. IMPLICATIONS: Improvements as piloted in this project, are readily available should the NHS, hospital managers, and clinicians see the value of these data in their clinical and managerial activities.  (+info)

(5/4985) Conducting a literature review on the effectiveness of health care interventions.

The dramatic increase in the volume of research based information means that effective policy makers must be able to conduct and interpret literature reviews. This article sets out the steps that should be followed in doing so. They are: explicitly defining the question; locating relevant literature; assessing the quality of studies and deciding whether they should be included; synthesizing and re-analyzing the results; and presenting them in a clear and concise manner. The article identifies the leading sources of information, including electronic databases and useful Internet addresses and describes briefly how each stage should be conducted, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches and the ways in which bias may be introduced.  (+info)

(6/4985) Searching for information on outcomes: do you need to be comprehensive?

The concepts of evidence-based practice and clinical effectiveness are reliant on up to date, accurate, high quality, and relevant information. Although this information can be obtained from a range of sources, computerised databases such as MEDLINE offer a fast, effective means of bringing up to date information to clinicians, as well as health service and information professionals. Common problems when searching for information from databases include missing important relevant papers or retrieving too much information. Effective search strategies are therefore necessary to retrieve a manageable amount of relevant information. This paper presents a range of strategies which can be used to locate information on MEDLINE efficiently and effectively.  (+info)

(7/4985) Searching bibliographic databases effectively.

The ability to search bibliographic databases effectively is now an essential skill for anyone undertaking research in health. This article discusses the way in which databases are constructed and some of the important steps in planning and carrying out a search. Consideration is given to some of the advantages and limitations of searching using both thesaurus and natural language (textword) terms. A selected list of databases in health and medicine is included.  (+info)

(8/4985) Tracing the evolution of critical evaluation skills in students' use of the Internet.

This paper documents the evolving uses of the Internet made by public health graduate students and traces the development of their search methods and critical evaluative criteria. Early in the first semester and again six months later, twenty-four graduate students in a problem-based learning curriculum, which emphasizes evidence-based critical thinking skills, were required to describe their most helpful resources and to evaluate these resources critically. The answers were coded for the types of resources the students used, how frequently they were used, and why they were used. Student perception of the usefulness of resources, especially the Internet, and ability to evaluate these resources critically changed greatly. Initially, 96% of the students stated that the Internet was their most helpful resource. Six months later, these students continued to use the Internet; however, it was not their most useful source. At the later point, students had very specific uses for the Internet. Their most frequently used evaluation criterion was the reliability and objectivity of the source of the information. By the end of the first year of study, the majority of the students demonstrated an understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice and applied them to their research and analysis of information resources.  (+info)

Question about medical record storage of information?

Is all your medical stuff kept together in one medical record? What about if you got some medicine or something from a certified doctor but he was from a 2nd / 3rd world country? Would he store it on there some how, i have no clue how he would have access to it though....or would he just go about with the treatment he thinks is right and not store it?
When i said 2nd / 3rd world doctor i meant that i was in another country getting treatment.  I'm now back in the US and wondering if that treatment would be in my medical record?
----------

All doctors document the treatment of the patient. It is ultimately the patient's responsibility to insure they have copies of their records. Some doctors don't charge but most do and there is a maximum amount that can be charged. You should always ask for copies of test results and keep the information organized in one safe place..

How many calories should I eat have per meal so that storage of them as fat is minimal?

I know that the body can only use so many calories immediately, and the remainder that you consumed in your meal will go to storage as fat or glycogen. I want to know what the average or estimated number is for calories your body can immediately utilize. Using this information, a dieter can determine how many calories to have per meal, and how many of these small meals to have per day. Naturally, having meals with only this many calories will mean eating numerous such meals at regular intervals throughout the day, not just the tpical breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
----------

It really depends on your activity level, but coming from an athlete, the best advice I can give you is to 5-6 small meals a day, space them 2-3 hours apart.  Eating 5-6 smaller meals a day  more frequently causes your metabolism to speed up, causing you to burn more calories.  For me, I try to eat about 1800-2000(which equals 250-350 calories per meal) calories a day because I train for sports, I'm trying to stay lean and mean.

Eat more whole grain wheats, less white rice or carb loaded past.  Oatmeal and whey is always good(without added sugar).  Also, eat more proteins(chicken breast, fish, low fat meat, nuts, etc...) (I try to eat 160 grams of protein a day, I weigh 160 lbs).  You don't have to go all out like that, but eat more proteins, it fills you up faster and is burned easier.  Vegetable is always good too, but keep fruits in moderation.

Another thing that'll help tremendously, if for you to do 30 minutes of exercise a day, whether its jogging or whatever.

Hope this helped

is diabetes considered a glycogen storage disease?

i am a type 1 diabetic and filling out college scholarship information and when i got to the "disabilities" section diabetes is not an option but glycogen storage disease is so im wondering if diabetes is included in that? or should i just mark off medical disability?
i know what diabetes is. i just am confused as to why diabetes is not an opption when it seems like everything else under the sun is. i dont consider myself disabled but i dont consider lots of the options in this section disabled either. so idk?
----------

No, I don't think so, glycogen storage disease should be something else, glycogen is a complex form of sugar than can be broken down into glucose when there is a need for it. If anything I think it would fall more likely to hypoglycemia, maybe there is an a (other) you could mark and name diabetes, if not it doesn't matter just make sure your friend now you are a diabetic in case of an emergency.

How would you store dry beans and dry rice for long term food storage?

I have a 50lb bag of beans and a couple 20lb bags of rice, we would like to store them incase of an emergency, but I dont know where to start so they dont mold or go stale. Any information would be appreciated.
----------

Find food storage canisters with an airtight seal. I got a good set at Costco for under 20 bucks..and they come in a variety of sizes. Store them in that, and keep the containers in a cool, dry place. Since they're dry (the beans) you don't have to worry about spoilage.

How can I find hospital records from my birth when they're pry. destroyed due to record keeping storage rules?

I am 31 years old. I desperately need my original birth records due to something that happened at the time of my birth. The hospital says they don't keep such records beyond the 7-year requirement. Do I have any recourse or alternative sources for such information? These are old files from the mid-70's and are not computerized. The hospital says they have been destroyed in accordance with hospital policy. Should I track down the attending physician that day? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

Egg storage? Information Please!?

My friend is 19 years old wants to have kids at some point in her life, but can't right now. In about 5 years she won't be able to physically have children, because of a medical condition, called endometriosis, that will more than likely force her to have her uterus removed, due to the pain. Does anyone know of some good sites to get information on storing her eggs, so that when she's older she can have a child of her own. The things I need to know are: how much, where, ECT. Any information would be appreciated!

can coffee or tea bags or dog food be stored in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers for long term storage?

I can't find any information that is definite about being able to store the foods listed above in mylar bags for long term storage.  Please don't answer unless you know for sure.  thanks
----------

How long is long term?

Roasted coffee goes bad no matter what you do to it. You can slow it a bit if it's nitrogen flushed, but you'll just get 2-3 weeks to become 1-2 months. Then it's stale & tastes bad (still safe). Green coffee can be stored for around 18 months, but it needs air so you can't store it as described. Fresh roasted beans release CO2, so storing in a sealed, unvented bag is bad for fresh coffee.

Tea should be stored away from light & air. The bag would help for air. Loose tea, stored properly, will last up to 2 years. In one of these bags

Dry dog food, like human food, shouldn't be stored too long without eating or throwing out. If you store it as described, I would expect it to last around 18 months as long as there's no moisture in the bag.

The problem is that these items aren't meant for long term storage (esp. the dog food). The coffee needs to be stale before packing (CO2). It & the tea won't be dangerous, they'll just lose flavor. The dog food can be dangerous, though.

What is the minimum age to get IVF and Egg Retrieval Procedure in COLORADO?

Me and my partner are lesbians and we found a procedure that we'd really be interested in getting done, which is egg retrieval and IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) because we would like the baby to have both of our genes. What is the minimum age in Colorado to get this done? does anyone know? we'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you
----------

You should see your OBGYN first to make sure your healthy enough to undergo this procedure. since you do go though hormone therapy and alot of things but the age should be about 18. At least I know that's what it is back home. As long as you can prove you have a stable environment and can financial handle a child and the price of the procedure.
