The term 'lymphadenopathy' strictly speaking refers to disease of the lymph node s, often however the term refers to enlargement of the lymph nodes. Similarly, the term 'lymphadenitis' refers to inflammation of a lymph node, but often it is used as a synonym of lymphadenopathy. In this article, lymphadenopathy is defined as lymph node enlargement, and only causes of neck lumps related to lymph nodes are discussed, as there are many other causes of lumps in the neck. Cervical lymphadenopathy is a sign or a symptom, not a diagnosis. 1 In adults, healthy lymph nodes can be palpable able to be felt, in the axilla, neck and groin. http://www.aafp.org/afp/1998/1015/p1313.html In children up to the age of 12 cervical nodes up to 1 cm in size may be palpable and this may not signify any...

Lymphadenopathy. Health Information. MedCentral Health System. Lymphadenopathy. What is lymphadenopathy. Lymphadenopathy is the term for swelling of the lymph nodes - the bean-shaped organs found in the underarm, groin, neck, chest, and abdomen that act as filters for the lymph fluid as it circulates through the body. Lymphadenopathy can occur in just one area of the body, such as the neck, or it may be generalized, with lymph node enlargement in several areas. The cervical lymph nodes found in the neck are the most common site of lymphadenopathy. What causes lymphadenopathy. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system and functions to fight disease and infections. As infection-fighting cells and fluid accumulate, the lymph nodes enlarge to many times their normal size. Nearly all children will develop lymphadenopathy at some time, as the condition commonly occurs in response to an infection from a virus such as an upper respiratory infection. Bacterial infections such as strep throat, caused by the str...

We demonstrated fetal peripheral lymphatic vessels LVs using D2-40 immunohistochemistry in a whole female fetus 18 weeks of gestation, CRL 155 mm except for the head. There were abundant LVs in the thyroid gland, lung, stomach, small intestine, rectum and pancreas, whereas no LVs were seen in the parathyroid gland, spleen and adrenal cortex. Subcutaneous LVs were well developed throughout the body even in areas where no or few perforating LVs connected with the deep LVs. The diaphragm contained abundant, dilated LVs in the pleural half of its thickness. LVs ran in a space between the obliquus internus and transversus abdominis but not between the obliquus internus and obliquus externus. Some tight connective tissues such as the sacrotuberous ligament contained abundant LVs...

The six most frequently used markers that discern between blood and lymphatic vessels are: vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 VEGFR-3, Prospero-related homeobox-1 Prox1, a hyaluronan receptor LYVE-1, a mucin-type transmembrane glycoprotein podoplanin, integrin alpha-9, and neuropilin-2 NRP2 .The earliest to be described was VEGFR-3, a tyrosine kinase receptor that is the key protein that regulates lymphangiogenesis in adult. This marker, however, is also expressed in non-endothelial cells such as hepatocytes and neurons. Prox1 appears to perform a similar function in adult endothelial cells as evidenced by up- and downregulation of VEGFR-3 following forced Prox1 overexpression or silencing in blood vascular endothelial cells BEC and in LEC, respectively. found that in brea...

... Document Detail. Design and implementation of a common drug information database for a university hospital. MedLine Citation:. BACKGROUND: Providing high quality problem-oriented drug information relies on the ability to easily collect appropriate background information on clinical cases, to access relevant information from published sources by defined search strategies and to store and retrieve previously answered questions. METHODS: We designed and implemented an Intranet-based drug information database for a major university hospital in Germany. The overall design and the technical details of its design are discussed. We developed a generic, XML-based data model for pharmaceutical inquiries including a MeSH-oriented system of 99 pharmaceutical qualifiers to enable efficient indexing of questions and the searching of indexed questions. RESULTS: The system provides query statistics and various search algorithms. The software implementation takes into account recent FDA recommendations for software used ...

The CERTs can integrate these efforts with basic studies in murine models of COX deficiency and atherosclerosis and GCRC based studies of the effects of COX-2 inhibitors on vascular function in patients at risk. While these two examples reflect the potential of a CERTs to harness the variegate expertise necessary t...

After an executive order last year and then passage of the FDA Safety and Innovation Act, or FDASIA, which was signed into law in July, reports of looming problems with drugs have soared, said Valerie Jensen, associate director of the agency s drug shortage program. What are diseases that you can get from having a weak lymphatic system?

the most answers gets the vote
----------

The lymphatic system is part of your immune system, so when your immune system( your body's ability to fight infection) is impaired you can contract just about any disease fungal infections,bacterial infections, viral infections. All which may disease body systems; lungs heart,brain,kidneys,skin,eyes,ears,liver,spleen,colon,stomach, blood etc.

A special system helps your body fight diseases. Is it called lymphatic system or respiratory system?

define the hemic and lymphatic system?

The hemic system is the blood-containing vessels (particularly arteries, capillaries, veins). The lymphatic system drains interstitial fluid (from the tissues). This is called lymph. It then drains all of this fluid back into the hemic system, (via the lymphatic duct, which drains into the left subclavian vein)

What are some diseases associated with lymph nodes?

I'm working on a project for class about finding the root cause analysis of diseases from different systems so I was just wondering if anybody knew of any diseases associated with lymph nodes/ lymphatic system. Interesting facts would be great too! Thanks! - Kamber

How many diseases, disorders, illnesses, deformities, etc. are there in the world?

Related to the human body, all of the systems, and including the rare diseases.
By systems I mean:
Nervous
Digestive
Endocrine
Cardiovascular
Respiratory
Lymphatic/immune
Urinary
Reproductive
Muscular
Skeletal
Skin, hair, nails

include psychotic disorders as well
And include auto-immune, bacterial, and viral disorders too.
Include genetics and cancer as one disease.
Also include inflammatory diseases too. I MEAN EVERYTHING
----------

That's too many to count. It's like counting your own hair. Plus, your friend's hair. Ok, that's a joke. The rare diseases? Only superspecialist will keep that in mind. Not even a specialist can tell you this, let alone bystanders.

does anyone know of any lymphatic diseases?

i need this really badly...
----------

Diseases affecting lymphatic vessels?
Obstruction caused by microfilaria in elaphantiasis leads to edema.
Rupture of thoracic duct can lead to chylothorax.

Diseases of lymphoid system?
lymphoma

Does a blood test detect ALL lymphatic diseases?

I have had swollen lymph nodes for well over 2 years. I have had x-rays, blood test and seen 2 separate doctors. I have been to chiropractors and had a lymphatic massage, and nothing has changed. The doctors said they would get back to me if there was anything important in the blood test, and that was over 6 months ago. I can only assume that the test was fine, is it possible that the blood test doesn't detect things like lymphoma? The only major reason i can find of long term node swelling is lymphoma and serious illness... i feel fine. should I see a doctor again? or just assume that it is something to do with hormonal changes (I am 16 and going through puberty)
----------

No, blood test can't detect lymphoma. Needle biopsy is required to detect it.

Diseases............?

What are some diseases that carry through life and gradually get worse till you die? Sorry bout the morbid topic.
Also, if you know, diseases that make you have allergic reactions to food. Can't remember what its called.
Umm... another is... diseases you can get as a teenager.
