... The 'Shiva Crater' is a geologic structure, which is hypothesized by Sankar Chatterjee Chatterjee, S. They lie beneath the Indian continental shelf and the Indian Ocean west of Mumbai, India. Chatterjee, S., N. 2006 'Shiva Structure: a possible KT boundary impact crater on the western shelf of India.' Museum of Texas Tech University Special Publications. Chatterjee argues that the Shiva Crater was created around 66 million years ago, about the same time as a number of other impact craters and the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary / K-Pg boundary. At the time of the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction, India was located over the Réunion hotspot of the Indian Ocean. 1 Earth scientists in general remain unconvinced that the "Shiva Crater" is indeed an impact crater. Chatterjee argues that the low angle of an impact combined with boundary fault lines and unstable rock led to this unusual formation. The age of the crater is inferred from the Deccan traps, which contain relatively...

Its meteor impact origin was first proposed and widely reported in 2002. An alternative origin has been proposed in which the feature was created by withdrawal of rock support by salt mobility. 3 Discovery Origin Evidence in favour of impact origin. Image credit:Phil Allen PGL and Simon Stewart BP. The crater-like structure was discovered by petroleum geoscientists Simon Stewart of BP and Philip Allen, then of Production Geoscience Ltd, during routine analysis of seismic data while exploring for natural gas deposits in a region 130 km off the Humber estuary. Only three years before the announcement of the discovery of the Silverpit crater, it had been suggested that seismic data from the North Sea would have a good chance of containing evidence of an impact crater: given the rate of crater formation on the Earth and the size of the North Sea, the expected number of impact craters would be one. After analyzing seismic data over a wide region, he proposed that Silverpit was just one of many similar features rel...

We will talk about some of these places below, but first let us take a brief look at the earth itself. EARTH - AN OVERVIEW. One of the most remarkable things about the Earth is that it can support organic, carbon based life contributed to by the fact that: Earth orbits the sun in the 'Habitable Zone', a relatively narrow band around the Sun that is just the right to maintain liquid water on the surface essential for life. Earth has a revolving, liquid metal core, which creates the magnetosphere that in turn protects the atmosphere from being blown away...

*  SIGNAL PROPAGATION
VHF Very High Frequency. HF includes frequencies from 160 meters all the way up to 10 meters. The lower band waves are able to travel far into the atmosphere almost into space and then bounce off one of a few layers of ionized gases in the ionosphere. This property is what allows energy waves to travel so far across the earth - the energy is radiated, bounces off of a layer, then is reflected back to another point on the earth. Bouncing waves off of the ionosphere is called sky-wave propagation. D Layer : This layer is close to the earth and is only present during the day hours when the ionosphere is highly charged by UV radiation. The E layer is most effective for 6-meter propagation. MUF, or critical frequency, is the highest frequency that can be reflected back to the earth from the ionosphere. The MUF is constantly changing due to the amount of UV radiation that the ionosphere is receiving. All frequencies above the MUF go on through the ionosphere into space. VHF AND UHF PROPAGATION. As we have seen, the pattern of cancer varies from one society to another; and these different patterns reflect not only the different pool of genes in each society but also the environmental differences which may play a part in causing cancer. In this context, ‘environmental differences’ embrace the social, economic and political circumstances in which individuals find themselves. Such circumstances will determine many facets of their lives, including many of the physical features of their environment. Advanced industrial processes potentially expose people to more carcinogens cancer-causing chemicals but if the individuals who may in some way be affected by those processes happen to live in a country with a free press, pressure groups, ‘watchdog’ organizations and a government responsible to an electorate, there is a better chance of the necessary environmental safeguards being put in place. THE MIND, SOCIETY AND CANCERPeople are more than the sum of their chemical molecules and cells. As we have seen, the ...

We dichotomized groups according to their scores into high and low levels of policy change high = policies have been drafted, adopted or approved; low = other responses and high and low levels of environmental change high = improvements are in progress or have been completed; low = other responses. We then created 4 groups: high levels of both policy and environmental change High High, high level of policy change and low level of environmental change High Low, low level of policy change and high level of environmental change Low High, and low levels of both policy and environmental change Low Low. ... inhibitors. Answer. Write. 0 Q: How would enzyme activity be regulated or controlled by environment factors, co-factors, and enzyme inhibitors. Comment. Flag. Answer Write a comment... 1 Answer. 0 Environmental factors such as temperature and pH levels effect enzyme activity. If the temperature is too cold then not enough collisions not enough kinetic energy will occur between the substrate and the enzyme so the reaction it catalyses will be slow. If the temperature is too hot the enzyme will be denatured which means the hydrogen bonds on the active site will break changing the shape of it and no longer allowing substrates to bind. The same with pH levels, it can change the charge of the enzyme which prevents the substrate from binding. There are two types of enzyme inhibitors one which binds directly to the active site, preventing the substrate from binding and another which binds to another part of the enzyme but still changes its shape not allowing the substrate to bind. answers.yahoo.com /question/in...

... Digital Urban. Google Street View - A Closer Look. As we posted a couple of days ago Google have added panoramas to their Google Maps services with the launch of Street View. Taking a closer look the data is provided by Immersive Media Corp, a digital video imaging company founded in 1994 captured in what is basically streaming video linked to a GPS. Using an 11 lens camera system pictured right, see ' What is Immersive Media ' for more info data is streamed in and merged in realtime to provide panoramic video. We used an early unit five years ago to capture panoramas around London, the system is easy to set up, basically the camera is mounted via a suction cup to the roof of a car and the data saved via a small form PC. Pictured below is the car used to capture the images for Google: The YouTube movie below highlights the use Google Street View in San Francisco - note the ability to zoom but also the numerous problems with stitching and image matching:. ... Sensor Fusion and Environmental Perception. Real-time 3D Obstacle Mapping during a flight in an urban area. A safe flight in arbitrary scenarios requires a situational awareness that is able to consider the properties of the environment. This mainly means that the aircraft has to sense and avoid dangers by itself, even during wireless data link losses and beyond the pilot's line of sight. This becomes possible through the environmental perception with cameras, laser range finders, and other sensors and the application of intelligent algorithms that integrate the environmental properties into flight control. For the evaluation of new methods, the image and sensor data processing system was integrated into the simulation environment and into flight control. Data fusion of satellite navigation, camera, laser, and inertial sensors is gaining importance as well as the integration of the whole sensor data processing chain into a reliable flying system. Amongst others, the environment sensors are used to detect...

... Starkville sidewalk ordinance in the works March 20, 2009 Tim Pratt -. Â STARKVILLE -- While Starkville residents will see massive repairs to city streets and drainage systems this year, the city's newly formed sidewalk committee is working hard to improve things for pedestrians. The committee met Thursday to work on an ordinance that would require builders to construct sidewalks alongside all new public or private roads within the city. The group only serves in an advisory capacity and eventually will present the ordinance to the city's Board of Aldermen for consideration, but on Thursday agreed on how to word a section involving construction of single-family homes. According to the section agreed upon by the committee, the ordinance would require builders to construct sidewalks in front of all new single-family detached homes before the city issues certificates of occupancy. The section does not apply to commercial or multi-family residential developments, though the committee soon will begin working o...

As soon as we discovered our error, we not only stopped collecting WiFi data entirely, but also grounded our fleet of cars globally to give us time to remove the WiFi scanning equipment and discuss what had happened with local regulators. The WiFi data collection equipment has been removed from our cars in each country and the independent security experts. Why is Salt put on Icy sidewalks. Why is Salt put on Icy sidewalks. Why is salt put on icy sidewalks. Winter is one season that not all countries can experience. Four seasonal changes are experienced only by countries that are situated along the polar  zones of the Earth. While summer, autumn and spring permit individuals to stroll at anytime, winter has imposed several limitations to the activities of the people. This is because sidewalks are typically filled with ice that somehow impedes outdoor activities to be done and causes roads to be unsurpassed by cars. However, science has made it possible for people to travel and prevent any vehicular accidents to take place despite the icy roads and sidewalks. The application of salt is basically done to allay any onset of accident that may be precipitated by the liquid nature of ice that makes roads and pathways slippery. Apart from accident prevention purposes, salt is put on icy sidewalks because salt has the capacity to interact with the freezing point of ic...

The sidewalk project, which was budgeted for $53,000 with the actual cost of work coming under $15,000 or $20,000 less, is a solution to safety hazards at the town hall and library. According to First Selectman Mike Criss, there have been numerous instances of residents falling and hurting themselves so the repairs will hopefully minimize those instances. For three years, Street View cars collected Wi-Fi payload data across 30 different countries. Don't these organisations have something useful to do rather than complain about *publicly* available data being collected. So if my front door's unlocked, you can just walk in, take what you like, and it's my fault. If you have an open network, you have bigger problems than Google's brief interception on one occasion. You're absolutely right, there is a reasonable expectation of privacy when: you, are in your home or other private locations, and, you take steps to make / maintain that location private. (1/365) Hydrogen peroxide on the surface of Europa.

Spatially resolved infrared and ultraviolet wavelength spectra of Europa's leading, anti-jovian quadrant observed from the Galileo spacecraft show absorption features resulting from hydrogen peroxide. Comparisons with laboratory measurements indicate surface hydrogen peroxide concentrations of about 0.13 percent, by number, relative to water ice. The inferred abundance is consistent with radiolytic production of hydrogen peroxide by intense energetic particle bombardment and demonstrates that Europa's surface chemistry is dominated by radiolysis.  (+info)

Elevations measured by the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter have yielded a high-accuracy global map of the topography of Mars. Dominant features include the low northern hemisphere, the Tharsis province, and the Hellas impact basin. The northern hemisphere depression is primarily a long-wavelength effect that has been shaped by an internal mechanism. The topography of Tharsis consists of two broad rises. Material excavated from Hellas contributes to the high elevation of the southern hemisphere and to the scarp along the hemispheric boundary. The present topography has three major drainage centers, with the northern lowlands being the largest. The two polar cap volumes yield an upper limit of the present surface water inventory of 3.2 to 4.7 million cubic kilometers.  (+info)

(3/365) Galileo imaging of atmospheric emissions from Io.

The Galileo spacecraft has detected diffuse optical emissions from Io in high-resolution images acquired while the satellite was eclipsed by Jupiter. Three distinct components make up Io's visible emissions. Bright blue glows of more than 300 kilorayleighs emanate from volcanic plumes, probably due to electron impact on molecular sulfur dioxide. Weaker red emissions, possibly due to atomic oxygen, are seen along the limbs, brighter on the pole closest to the plasma torus. A faint green glow appears concentrated on the night side of Io, possibly produced by atomic sodium. Io's disk-averaged emission diminishes with time after entering eclipse, whereas the localized blue glows brighten instead.  (+info)

(4/365) Formation of cycloidal features on Europa.

Cycloidal patterns are widely distributed on the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. Tensile cracks may have developed such a pattern in response to diurnal variations in tidal stress in Europa's outer ice shell. When the tensile strength of the ice is reached, a crack may occur. Propagating cracks would move across an ever-changing stress field, following a curving path to a place and time where the tensile stress was insufficient to continue the propagation. A few hours later, when the stress at the end of the crack again exceeded the strength, propagation would continue in a new direction. Thus, one arcuate segment of the cycloidal chain would be produced during each day on Europa. For this model to work, the tensile strength of Europa's ice crust must be less than 40 kilopascals, and there must be a thick fluid layer below the ice to allow sufficient tidal amplitude.  (+info)

(5/365) Climate change as a regulator of tectonics on Venus.

Tectonics, volcanism, and climate on Venus may be strongly coupled. Large excursions in surface temperature predicted to follow a global or near-global volcanic event diffuse into the interior and introduce thermal stresses of a magnitude sufficient to influence widespread tectonic deformation. This sequence of events accounts for the timing and many of the characteristics of deformation in the ridged plains of Venus, the most widely preserved volcanic terrain on the planet.  (+info)

(6/365) The gravity field of Mars: results from Mars Global Surveyor.

Observations of the gravity field of Mars reveal a planet that has responded differently in its northern and southern hemispheres to major impacts and volcanic processes. The rough, elevated southern hemisphere has a relatively featureless gravitational signature indicating a state of near-isostatic compensation, whereas the smooth, low northern plains display a wider range of gravitational anomalies that indicates a thinner but stronger surface layer than in the south. The northern hemisphere shows evidence for buried impact basins, although none large enough to explain the hemispheric elevation difference. The gravitational potential signature of Tharsis is approximately axisymmetric and contains the Tharsis Montes but not the Olympus Mons or Alba Patera volcanoes. The gravity signature of Valles Marineris extends into Chryse and provides an estimate of material removed by early fluvial activity.  (+info)

(7/365) Possible ancient oceans on Mars: evidence from Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter data.

High-resolution altimetric data define the detailed topography of the northern lowlands of Mars, and a range of data is consistent with the hypothesis that a lowland-encircling geologic contact represents the ancient shoreline of a large standing body of water present in middle Mars history. The contact altitude is close to an equipotential line, the topography is smoother at all scales below the contact than above it, the volume enclosed by this contact is within the range of estimates of available water on Mars, and a series of extensive terraces parallel the contact in many places.  (+info)

(8/365) Evidence for crystalline water and ammonia ices on Pluto's satellite charon.

Observations have resolved the satellite Charon from its parent planet Pluto, giving separate spectra of the two objects from 1.0 to 2.5 micrometers. The spectrum of Charon is found to be different from that of Pluto, with water ice in crystalline form covering most of the surface of the satellite. In addition, an absorption feature in Charon's spectrum suggests the presence of ammonia ices. Ammonia ice-water ice mixtures have been proposed as the cause of flowlike features observed on the surfaces of many icy satellites. The existence of such ices on Charon may indicate geological activity in the satellite's past.  (+info)

What environment should animals and vegetables be raised in?

Plz Describe the environment that animals and vegetables should be raised/grown in to provide humans with high quality nutrition while being socially responsible.
----------

the environment as to be a mostly sunny area. make sure it is not too hot because then the plants will dry and and die. make sure that it rains often and the soil has to be rich in nutrients. animals need a big place or else they will become sick and will not be able to be used in a way that the human would has wanted to use them for. free range animals are healthier and will make better food and or transportation.
i hope this helps you!

Is the environment inside a woman more hostile to sperm during her period?

I've heard that because of all the bleeding and such, the environment inside the uterus is more hostile to sperm during a woman's period; therefore they do not survive for as long, on average. Is this true?
----------

i have no idea if that is true, because there are a lot of us who ended up getting pregnant even on our periods. good question though, try googling it.

What kinds of snacks and meals are best for a BEACH environment?

I'm planning a little get-together at the beach shortly, and I would love to hear about any recipes or ideas on snacks/ light meals that are best for a beach environment. The foods don't necessarily have to be easy to make - I just want yummy food!

Also, what kinds of containers should I pack these snacks/meals in? How do I keep the food fresh in such hot weather?
----------

Hard Bars & Bites - While there are some chewy baked snacks bars we happily chew on in air-conditioned environments, the crunchy ones are your best bet for outdoor eating. You should also avoid ones with coating (like peanut butter or chocolate), 'cuz those'll become sadly misshapen once the heat hits 'em.

Fresh Fruit - Go for firm, easy-to-eat fruits like pears and apples. Skip anything sticky, soft, or hard to handle, like melon, berries, oranges, and kiwi. The sticky stuff will leave you a mess, the softies could easily be smooshed in your beach bag, and the tough-to-peel stuff will leave you more likely to reach for a cookie than pick a fight with your fruit.

Sadly, tuna salad and turkey slices won't last long outside the cool comfort of your fridge. Stock up on low-cal dehydrated protein-y snacks, like soy jerky, turkey jerky, and beef jerky.

As for how you should pack them, if you are bringing Turkey Slices or Tuna salad, I'd just bring a cooler, put some ice in, stack waterbottles , pop cans etc ontop of the ice and just lay the the container of Salad above the waterbottles so that they can keep cool without getting wet. The downfall is that when the ice melts, the container might get wet but the food should be out of harms way.

Have fun at the beach!

What is the connection betweetn metabolisam temperature of the environment and body weight?

What is the connection betweetn metabolisam temperature of the environment and body weight?
Some people complain that are skinny because of their high metabolism. During the winter temperatures are lower so metabolism of mammals is higher. Then why do we tend to gain weight (both muscle and fat) more easily in the winer time?
----------

okay, i have seen that Kathy person post the same thing to a lot of other questions.

but i did not understand anything about yours. except for the last paragraph. sorry.

What kind of environment/condition can you find strep bacteria?

I need the kind of environment or condition you would most likely find strep bacteria. Like I guess in forest areas, cleaner rooms, contaiminated air. . .  etc. ..  i have no clue. and if you could, include where you got the information but no need. thank you!
In other words, Where can you find strep bacteria?
----------

usually on things like rails and door knobs because when people cough on their hands they touch these things and the bacteria thrive on it until they move onto someone else and infect them.

What kind of makeup is suitable for this professional environment?

I am a scientist working in an academic environment. People are pretty low key here (they wear jeans). But I like to look nice without looking over made up. Any suggestions on what makeup essentials/ look I should use? (I am blonde and fair skinned, and tend to wear nice jeans paired with nice shirts/sweaters to work). I want to look nice but I also want to be taken seriously.
----------

Personally, I would go for a natural look.

Keep your skin hydrated and wear a powder foundation, it covers well and isn't too cakey. A light blush is nice too, especially on fair skin.

Use white eyeliner to make your eyes look alert, make sure you blend it well because sometimes it can look chunky. A thin line of liquid liner on top and curled lashes with a soft mascara is great. Maybe a bit of a peachy shimmer (not glitter) on your lids.

Chapstick is good for your lips, it's not too shiney and keeps a healthy color.

Basically, for your profession I'd suggest looking clean and the natural look is by far your best bet. It looks beautiful, enhances your natural beauty and makes you look more professional. Less is more!

How can I be cautious to avoid the Swine flu at my work environment?

I work in a customer service environment where I run a cash register, and have to shelf movies back to their spots. I try to wash my hands and use hand sanitizer at work every hour. But is there anything else I can do?
----------

Stay healthy by eating right and getting plenty of sleep.  This will keep your immunity system strong and will help it resist the H1N1 virus if you should come into contact with someone who may be a carrier.

How much is their environment and how much is genetics?

I want to know what makes a male gay? I know some people say that they knew at age 5 and other at age 45. So it must not be too much about the environment. I have no gay people in my family and my husband has none in his (that we know of). What do you think our chances are of having a "normal" child?
Do you think over-mothering or "smothering" has anything to do with it?
If being gay is in you from birth, how come some men dont know until they are old?
----------

While I can certainly say that I've known a few 'lesbians by choice' in my day (women who choose to be only with women because they believe that men are controlling/chauvenistic, etc.), homosexuality is 99.9% genetic.
