Some of the covered services are the following, only when they're considered medically necessary: Laboratory and Pathology services such as blood tests and urinalyses Preventive services that will help prevent, manage, or diagnose a medical condition Glaucoma tests, once per year Bone mass measurement, once every two years Colorectal cancer screenings Diabetic screenings Diabetic supplies Diabetic self-management training Cardiovascular screenings. ... Click to Print. Email this. close. NACDS responds to CMS moving up PECOS enrollment date. By Alaric DeArment. ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is objecting to a move by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that it said would put retail pharmacies and other suppliers at risk for service disruptions. Last month, CMS said it would move the implementation date for physician and nonphysician practitioner enrollment in the Medicare provider enrollment, chain and ownership system, also known as PECOS, up from Jan. 3, 2011, to July 6, 2010. This could result in Medicare Part B claims being denied if a beneficiary’s physician or nonphysician practitioner is not enrolled or improperly enrolled in PECOS, according to NACDS. “The accelerated date for PECOS enrollment may create service disruptions for Medicare Part B beneficiaries,” NACDS president and CEO Steven Anderson stated. “The new date -- less than one week away -- may reduce patients’ access to pharmacy-provided ...

Will Medicare cover this. Medicare will help pay for speech pathology services if they’re medically necessary and can only be provided by a qualified speech pathologist; your doctor or therapist sets up the plan of treatment; and your doctor periodically reviews the plan to see how long you will get therapy. Generally, Medicare will cover therapy only if your condition can improve, or if your condition will deteriorate without therapy. You can get these services as an outpatient of a participating hospital or skilled nursing facility, but you must qualify for the skilled nursing facility benefit. You can also get services from a participating home health agency, but you must qualify for the home health benefit; from a rehabilitation agency; a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility; or a public health agency. In 2011, Medicare will cover up to $1,870 for physical and speech therapy combined. Can a skilled nursing facility decide not to accept me as a patient. A skilled nursing facility can also ...

Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act. The AARC is embarking on a new legislative initiative for 2013. The legislation would amend Medicare Part B to add coverage of pulmonary self-management education and training services when furnished by qualified respiratory therapists in the physician practice setting to Medicare patients who have been diagnosed with COPD, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis and cystic fibrosis. After several years of effort Congress enacted legislation that creates an outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation benefit under the Medicare program. Homebound Medicare patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD, i.e., emphysema and chronic bronchitis, and other pulmonary diseases frequently rely on the uninterrupted use of complex ...

... FHN Schedules 2012 Flu Shot Clinics FHN Schedules 2012 Flu Shot Clinics It's almost flu season again. Getting immunized against influenza "the flu" is your best shot at staying healthy this season, but the Centers for Disease Control has some additional tips for good health: Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too. You will help prevent others from catching your illness. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. FHN will offer seasonal flu shots to the public again this year at a series of clinics scheduled throughout northwest Illinois. ... View Newsmax Mobile. Fast Features. density. Frequent Bone Testing Not Needed: Study. For many seniors, it may not be worthwhile to undergo frequent imaging tests to see if they're at risk for broken bones, a new study suggests. Repeating a bone-mineral-density test four years after the initial one did not provide substantially more information to predict fracture risk among older men and women who did not yet have osteoporosis, the study found. The bone-mineral-density DEXA test often is repeated every two years, Berry said, as Medicare part B will reimburse for it every two years, and more often if medically necessary. People with lower bone density are at greater risk for breaking a bone. Of those who went on to experience a hip fracture, repeating a bone-density test improved our ability to classify a person at higher risk by about 4 percent, Berry said. What our study suggests is that a doctor should routinely reassess risk, she said, but could probably do that without a repeat bone-density test ...

Ketamine upgraded to Class B drug From Herald Series. Forgotten password / Forgotten email. Ketamine upgraded to Class B drug. Announcing the move, crime prevention minister Norman Baker said he hoped to send a message that the drug is harmful - but at the same time raised questions over the effectiveness of the classification system to control drug use. Ketamine, also known as Special K, will be reclassified from Class C to B in the face of mounting evidence over its physical and psychological harms. Reclassification will mean the maximum penalty for unlawful possession of ketamine will increase from two to five years in jail, while the maximum penalty for trafficking offences will continue to be 14 years imprisonment. He went on: "What I do think is in the short term there's a message that needs to be sent on ketamine. In terms of where we're going in 20 or 30 years time, in terms of the optimum method of minimising drug use then I'm not sure. But what it does do is send a message to those who are ...
