Outside of Scotland, whisky is produced from other malted grains, such as malted rye,, 'Anchor Brewing Company'. and the term "rye...

« Introducing Ceili’s Cream. The 2011Rum Howler Awards – The Rum Wrap-up ». Review: Auchentoshan 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky Posted by Arctic Wolf on December 11, 2011. The Auchentoshan Distillery is somewhat of an anomaly amongst Scottish Distillers. It is the only Scottish Distillery that triple distills their entire core range of whisky. Triple distillation is common amongst Irish distillers, but very uncommon for a distillery producing Single Malt Whisky. The result of the triple distillation is a more laid back easy-going style of whisky which perhaps carries more floral elements, but which also may be a little less robust in character than traditional single malts. As such, the Auchentoshan whisky may be more approachable for novice Single Malt Whisky enthusiast. The Auchentoshan 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is part of that core range of Auchentoshan Single Malts. It is of course a triple distilled whisky which has been produced from aged stocks at least 12 years of a variety of different barrel ty...

For all of the criticism Caol Ila takes as being a whisky factory, the single malt made on site is damn good. That soft and supple character compliments the peat smoke of Islay malts perfectly. The 18 year old we tasted on site was one of the best whiskies I had tasted all year, but since we can't buy casks directly from Diageo, we were going to have to look elsewhere for something similar. Last year's visit to Sovereign resulted in a 30 year old Caol Ila cask of supreme complexity, but we were so intrigued by the 18 year ...

Bowmore Distillery. sits at the edge of Loch Indaal where the briny breezes of the sea blow directly across and into the warehouses full of Bowmore whisky barrels. The location of the distillery next to Loch Indaal, and the peated barley produced under Bowmore’s own malt drying kiln have been linked to the unique flavour and character of the whisky know as Bowmore. I should mention that due to the sheer volume of whisky produced by Morrison Bowmore, there is insufficient room to age all of the casks in the Bowmore seaside warehouse facility, nor does the facilities’ malt floor have the capacity to produce all of the malted barley to meet Bowmore’s requirements. However, both portion of whisky aged in the Bowmore warehouses, and the portion of malted barley produced on their malt drying floor are significant such that these unique characteris...

It is labeled as 12yo, 86 proof, and on the back label states Blended Scotch Whisky, 100% Scotch Whiskies. Or is it what used to be called a vatting, where it is a blend of single malts. It's a blend of scottish malt whisky and scottish grain whisky. Blended Scotch is different than blended american whiskey like Seagram's 7 in that it doesn't contain neutral grain spirit vodka but instead contains aged grain whisky. I believe the Scotch Whisky Association requires anything being labeled whisky to be aged at least 3 years. They recently discontinued the use of vatted whisky and replaced it with Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. law, is whiskey created by distilling a fermented malt ed or unmalted cereal grain mash to create a spirit not exceeding 80% alcohol content by volume abv and then aging the spirit for at least two years at an abv concentration not exceeding 62.5% at the start of the aging process. American straight whiskey must be aged in charred new oak barrel s and must be put into the barrels for aging at a concentration not exceeding 62.5% abv. Aging and bottled in bond requirements Ingredients Distillation limit Blended whiskey References. The core aging requirement that defines a whiskey as 'straight' is if the distillate has spent at least two years stored in charred new oak barrels, except corn whiskey which must use uncharred or used oak barrels. All bonded whiskeys are required to be straight whiskeys, and are additionally required to be aged for at least four years. 2 They must be produced from a single mash type at a single distillery during a single distillation season analogous to a single malt whiskey. A whisky made from malted rye is usually called a rye malt whisky instead of just a malt whisky. 1 define a "malt whisky" as a whisky produced at an alcohol by volume abv level not exceeding 80% from a fermented mash of not less than 51% malted barley grain and stored for aging in charred new oak containers at less than 62.5% abv. If such a whisky has been aged for at least two years, contains no added coloring and flavoring, and has not been blended with neutral spirits or other types of whisky, the additional adjective straight can be applied, as in "'straight malt whisky'" and "'straight rye malt whisky'". If the whisky is not totally straight but at least 51% of its content is "'straight malt whisky'", the word "malt" can still be used, but the product must be described as a "'blend'", as in " blended malt whisky " or "'malt whiskey – a blend'". There is no aging requirement for the parts of a blended whiskey other than the part that is straight whiskey – e.g., the product may contain neutral spirits that...

The Auchentoshan Classic Single Malt Whisky is part of the core range of Auchentoshan Single Malts. It is of course a triple distilled whisky which has been produced from stocks matured solely in American bourbon casks, and then bottled at 40 % alcohol by volume. I should note that Lifford Wines are the local importer in Alberta and distributor of Morrison Bowmore Products. The Auchentoshan Distillery and its brands are owned by Morrison Bowmore. Difference Between Brandy and Cognac • Categorized under Objects. Difference Between Brandy and Cognac Brandy is a kind of alcoholic drink made from wine anywhere in the world while cognac is a special kind of brandy made only in Western France. Brandy is derived from the Dutch word for ‘burnt wine’ and is produced by the distillation of wine after grapes have been properly fermented. Brandy usually contains 36 to 60 per cent of alcohol according to volume and is very popular across the world as an after-dinner drink or for keeping one warm. Brandy can also be made from fermented fruit other than grapes. Cognac is made in the French city of the same name and its surrounding areas. Cognac is said to be made from ‘eaux-de-vie’ waters of life which is the product obtained after double distillation of white wine. Cognac was first produced to utilize the grape waste that had been left because of making of wine. Distillation gives a colorless residue of 70 per cent alcohol and it is left to age for at least two yea...

*  Whiskey making - all you need to know!
Whiskey making - all you need to know. Scotch Whiskey making. Scotch whiskey making is a relatively simple process but steeped in history. Scotch malt is quite simply made from three ingredients, barley, water and yeast. The first stage of whiskey making production is the malting of the barley. It is the distinctive smell of the smoke that contributes to the character of the spirit. The malted barley is then roughly ground and mixed with hot water. This converts the starch in the barley into a sugary liquid called wort. This is known as wash. The next stage in the Whiskey making process is the most crucial. The stillman raises the temperature within the wash still and gradually, the fermented liquid is heated and the alcohol vaporises. Whiskey making - Grain. The cereals can then be combined with a proportion of malted barley, and mixed with boiling water to produce the sugary liquid called wort. He is required to judge the moment at which the Scotch malt and the Scotch grain spirit is ready to be collected, ...

McClelland’s Lowland Single Malt Whisky Review: McClelland’s Lowland Single Malt Whisky 65/100 a review by Chip Dykstra Aka Arctic Wolf Posted April 23, 2010. The McClelland’s Lowland Single Malt whisky is the least typical of the four main expressions of this brand. In fact, it was difficult for me, in a blind taste test, to associate this whisky with any particular region, or should I say style, of Scottish whisky. In the end, I correctly named this a Lowland whisky in a blind taste test, more as a matter of default, than by ascertaining distinct lowland characteristics from the dram. The whisky is produced by Morrison Bowmore Distillers. It is distilled from a distillery in the Lowland region of Scotland, and selected to represent the character and essence of the Lowland whisky region. In the Bottle 5/5. All of the McClelland’s Single Malt whiskies come in attractive cardboard canisters.  These canisters each feature a vivid landscape by British illustrator Kathy Wyatt . The landscape reflec...

In broader sense, the term "brandy" also denotes liquors obtained from distillation of pomace pomace brandy or mash or wine of any other fruit fruit brandy. This liquor, distilled only once, was called 'spirit of wine' or 'brandy'. Some brandies, particularly those from Spain, are aged using the solera system, where the spirit changes the barrel each year. In the general colloquial usage of the term, brandy may also be made from pomace and from fermented fruit other than grapes. If pomace is the raw material, the beverage may be called " pomace brandy ", "marc brandy", "grape marc", "fruit marc spirit", or "grape marc spirit". Grape pomace brandy may be designated as " grappa " or "grappa brandy". In the US, brandy that has been produced from other than grape wine must be labelled with a clarifying description of the type of brandy production such as "peach brandy", "fruit brandy", "dried fruit brandy", or "pomace brandy", and brandy that has not been aged in oak for at least two years must be labelled as "im...

« Review: Cruz del sol Reposado Tequila. Review: London Dock Rum Favell’s 70 Proof ». Review: Auchentoshan Three Wood Single Malt Whisky. Posted by Arctic Wolf on May 31, 2012. The Auchentoshan Three Wood Single Malt Whisky is a recent addition to that core range of Auchentoshan Single Malts. It is of course a triple distilled whisky which has been matured in three different styles of Oak. These are in order: American Bourbon, Spanish Oloroso Sherry, and Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. This unique aging process ...

Counterfeit Scotch whiskeys are more common than you might think, with the Scotch Whiskey Association reportedly handling between 60 to 70 active cases of counterfeiting at any one time. Fortunately for them, scientists from Glasgow's University of Strathclyde have devised a quicker, simpler, less costly system. This indicates the amount of ethanol and colorant in the liquor - if those amounts don't match up with the amounts that the genuine whiskey is known to have, then the sampled whiskey is a fake. *  Single malt Scotch
... 'Single malt Scotch' is single malt whisky made in Scotland. To be a single malt scotch the whisky must have been distilled at a single distillery using a pot still distillation process and made from a mash of malt ed grain. In Scotland, the only grain allowed to be used in a single malt whisky is barley. As with any Scotch whisky, a single malt Scotch must be distilled in Scotland and matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years. "Malt" indicates that the whisky is distilled from a "malted" grain. Several types of grains can be malted for example, barley, rye and wheat are all grains which can be malted ; however, in the case of single malt Scotch, barley is always the only grain used. Bottlings containing malt whisky from multiple distilleries are called " blended malt ". Until the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 SWR 2009, the word "blended" only appeared in the context of Scotch whisky on bottles of whisky that contained a mixture of both barley and non-barley grain whisky, but this is no ...

« Rum Review: Zafra Master Reserve. Rum Review: Bermudez Ron Viejo Blanco ». Whiskey Review: Greenore Single Grain Irish Whiskey 15YR Posted by Arctic Wolf on July 25, 2010 In 1988 JohnTeeling bought the Cooley Distillery from the Irish Government essentially as a purchase of a facility meant for the scrap heap. The distillery however, was never scrapped. Instead John Teeling and his Master Distiller, Noel Sweeny, turned their perceptions of the facility around, rolled up their sleeves, and ten years later were making some of the most unique Irish whiskey in the Country. Teeling tried unsuccessfully to sell the distillery five years into the process to rid himself of the bad investment. But… innovation and desire played their part, and the remarkable turn around of the Cooley Distillery is the stuff of legend. One of the innovative products made at the Cooley Distillery is the Greenore Single Grain Irish Whiskey. ... Sour Mash Whiskey - American Bourbon with distinction. So what actually is Sour Mash Whiskey. Well it's Bourbon or Tennessee whiskey made using at least 25 per cent backset; soured yeast mash; with a fermentation period of at least 72 hours. Backset. In North American Sour Mash Whiskey, alcohol-free liquid left at the bottom of the still after distillation is added to the mash tub and fermenter to ward off bacterial contamination. The Mash, is the liquid composed of grist, mixed with boiling water. This extracts soluble starch, which is converted into maltose by the enzyme amylase. The liquid that is drained from the mash tun and fermented is called the worts. What is sour mash. Sour Mash Whiskey, which also is sippin’ whiskey and Tennessee whiskey, is a frequently misunderstood term. Sour mash simply refers to the technique used in the preparation of most, if not all, straight whiskey. The sour mash method makes the yield more efficient. The technique involves seeding, or seasoning, a new batch of mash ...

Photo Courtesy of CSN Wine and Spirits. Auchentoshan Distillery is somewhat of an anomaly amongst Scottish Distillers. It is the only Scottish Distillery that triple distills their entire core range of whiskies. Triple distillation is common amongst Irish Distillers but extremely uncommon for a distillery producing Scottish single malts. The result of the triple distillation is a more laid back easy-going whisky which is perhaps more floral, but also perhaps less robust in character than traditional single malts. This easy-going style perhaps makes the Auchentoshan Distillery a perfect example of a Lowland Scottish Whisky and a very approachable malt for novice whisky drinkers. The long time spent aging in an oak hogshead cask and the high bottling strength 47.5% is sure to have produced a whisky with a stronger character and a little more int...

« The 2010 Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival. Introducing: O2 Sparkling Vodka ». Whisky Review: The Macallan Fine Oak 15 Year Old Scotch Whisky. Posted by Arctic Wolf on November 14, 2010. After a year of blogging about whisky, I decided I deserved a treat, and so I went into my private stash of rare whiskies, well maybe not so rare, and I brought out a bottle of The Macallan Fine Oak 15-year-old Scotch Whisky. The Macallan Fine Oak Series is a series of single malt Scotch whiskies, produced at The Macallan Distillery at Craigellachie in the Speyside region of Scotland which are matured in seasoned American oak casks, sherry as well as bourbon, as well as sherry casks from Spain. This series is quite a departure for The Macallan who are renowned for their whiskies which have been aged solely in Sherry Oak casks from Jerez, Spain, The new Fine Oak Series has drawn rave reviews some quarters Jim Murray for example awarded it “Best New Scotch Brand” when it was launched, and dramatic criticism from oth...

(1/662) Alcohol intake and the risk of lung cancer: influence of type of alcoholic beverage.

Alcohol consumption has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, but the antioxidants in wine may, in theory, provide protection. This association was studied in 28,160 men and women subjects from three prospective studies conducted in 1964-1992 in Copenhagen, Denmark. After adjustment for age, smoking, and education, a low to moderate alcohol intake (1-20 drinks per week) was not associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. Men who consumed 21-41 and more than 41 drinks per week had relative risks of 1.23 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.88-1.74) and 1.57 (95% CI 1.06-2.33), respectively. The risk of lung cancer differed according to the type of alcohol consumed: After abstainers were excluded, drinkers of 1-13 and more than 13 glasses of wine per week had relative risks of 0.78 (95% CI 0.63-0.97) and 0.44 (95% CI 0.22-0.86), respectively, as compared with nondrinkers of wine (p for trend = 0.002). Corresponding relative risks for beer intake were 1.09 (95% CI 0.83-1.43) and 1.36 (95% CI 1.02-1.82), respectively (p for trend = 0.01); for spirits, they were 1.21 (95% CI 0.97-1.50) and 1.46 (95% CI 0.99-2.14), respectively (p for trend = 0.02). In women, the ability to detect associations with high alcohol intake and type of beverage was limited because of a limited range of alcohol intake. The authors concluded that in men, a high consumption of beer and spirits is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, whereas wine intake may protect against the development of lung cancer.  (+info)

(2/662) Type of alcoholic drink and risk of major coronary heart disease events and all-cause mortality.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the effects of beer, spirits, and wine drinking on coronary heart disease (CHD) events (fatal and nonfatal) and all-cause mortality. METHODS: Men aged 40 to 59 years (n = 7735) were drawn at random from one general practice in each of 24 British towns and followed up for an average of 16.8 years. RESULTS: Regular drinkers showed a significantly lower relative risk of CHD, but no all-cause mortality, than occasional drinkers, even after adjustment for potential confounders. The benefit for CHD of regular drinking was seen within both beer drinkers and spirit drinkers but not among men who reported wine drinking. However, all men who reported wine drinking (both occasional and regular) showed significantly lower age-adjusted risks of CHD and all-cause mortality than men drinking beer or spirits; beer and spirit drinkers showed similar risks. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that regular intake of all alcoholic drinks is associated with a lower risk of CHD, but not all-cause mortality, than occasional drinking. A large part, but not all, of the greater benefit seen in wine drinkers relative to other drinkers can be attributed to advantageous lifestyle characteristics (e.g., low rates of smoking and obesity).  (+info)

(3/662) Fluid intake and the risk of bladder cancer in men.

BACKGROUND: Studies in animals have shown that the frequency of urination is inversely associated with the level of potential carcinogens in the urothelium. In humans, an increase in total fluid intake may reduce contact time between carcinogens and urothelium by diluting urinary metabolites and increasing the frequency of voiding. The data on fluid intake in relation to the risk of bladder cancer are inconclusive. METHODS: We examined the relation between total fluid intake and the risk of bladder cancer over a period of 10 years among 47,909 participants in the prospective Health Professionals Follow-up Study. There were 252 newly diagnosed cases of bladder cancer during the follow-up period. Information on total fluid intake was derived from the reported frequency of consumption of the 22 types of beverages on the food-frequency questionnaire, which was completed by each of the 47,909 participants who were free of cancer in 1986. Logistic-regression analyses were performed to adjust for known and suspected risk factors for bladder cancer. RESULTS: Total daily fluid intake was inversely associated with the risk of bladder cancer; the multivariate relative risk was 0.51 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.32 to 0.80) for the highest quintile of total daily fluid intake (>2531 ml per day) as compared with the lowest quintile (<1290 ml per day). The consumption of water contributed to a lower risk (relative risk, 0.49 [95 percent confidence interval, 0.28 to 0.86] for > or =1440 ml [6 cups] per day vs. <240 ml [1 cup] per day), as did the consumption of other fluids (relative risk, 0.63 [95 percent confidence interval, 0.39 to 0.99] for >1831 ml per day vs. <735 ml per day). CONCLUSIONS: A high fluid intake is associated with a decreased risk of bladder cancer in men.  (+info)

(4/662) Does the concept of a standard drink apply to viticultural societies?

The use of standard drink units (SDUs) in the measurement of individual alcohol consumption has become widely popular in recent years. However, the ethanol content of drinks varies from country to country and is usually arrived at without scientific backing. The present study was designed to establish an SDU for a predominantly wine-drinking country (Spain). Two field studies were simultaneously conducted to gather data about home and public alcohol consumption in eight regions of the country with a total of 10751 subjects. The average alcohol content of a drink was very similar for wine and beer, whereas in the case of spirits it was almost double. Relevant differences were found across regions, drinking settings and city sizes. A Spanish SDU was set at 10 g of ethanol for wine and beer, with a measure of spirits accounting for two SDUs. The use of SDUs should be encouraged in primary health care settings. However, dispersion of data suggests that, when SDU is used as a screening tool, additional information should always be obtained in borderline cases.  (+info)

(5/662) Alcohol intake, beverage preference, and risk of hip fracture in men and women. Copenhagen Centre for Prospective Population Studies.

The authors prospectively studied the association between quantity and type of alcohol intake and risk of hip fracture among 17,868 men and 13,917 women. Analyses were based on pooled data from three population studies conducted in 1964-1992 in Copenhagen, Denmark. During follow-up, 500 first hip fractures were identified in women and 307 in men. A low to moderate weekly alcohol intake (1-27 drinks for men and 1-13 drinks for women) was not associated with hip fracture. Among men, the relative risk of hip fracture gradually increased for those who drank 28 drinks or more per week (relative risk (RR) = 1.75, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06-2.89 for 28-41 drinks; RR = 5.28, 95% CI 2.60-10.70 for 70 or more drinks) as compared with abstainers. Women who drank 14-27 drinks per week had an age-adjusted relative risk of hip fracture of 1.44 (95% CI 1.03-2.03), but the association weakened after adjustment for confounders (RR = 1.32, 95% CI 0.92-1.87). The risk of hip fracture differed according to the type of alcohol preferred: preferrers of beer had a higher risk of hip fracture (RR = 1.46, 95% CI 1.11-1.91) than preferrers of other types of alcoholic beverages. The corresponding relative risks for preferrers of wine and spirits were 0.77 (95% CI 0.58-1.03) and 0.82 (95% CI 0.58-1.14), respectively. In conclusion, an alcohol intake within the current European drinking limits does not influence the risk of hip fracture, whereas an alcohol intake of more than 27 drinks per week is a major risk factor for men.  (+info)

(6/662) Effect of ethanol on the urinary excretion of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanediols, biomarkers of the exposure to cyclohexanone, cyclohexane and cyclohexanol in humans.

OBJECTIVES: This study explored the acute effect of ethanol (EtOH) on the urinary excretion of cyclohexanol (CH-ol), 1,2- and 1,4-cyclohexanediol (CH-diol), biomarkers of exposure to important solvents, and chemical intermediates cyclohexanone (CH-one), cyclohexane (CH) and cyclohexanol. METHODS: Volunteers (5-8 in each group) were exposed for 8 hours either to CH-one, CH or CH-ol vapor at concentrations of about 200, 1000, and 200 mg/m3, respectively, with concomitant ingestion of EtOH (4 14-g doses taken during the exposure). Urine was collected for 72 hours and analyzed for CH-ol and CH-diols using a procedure involving acidic hydrolysis and gas chromatographic determination. RESULTS: The metabolic yields of CH-ol, 1,2-, and 1,4-CH-diol, respectively, in the exposures with EtOH were as follows: 11.3%, 36%, 23% after the exposure to CH-one, 3.1%, 15%, 8% after the exposure to CH, and 6.6%, 24%, 18% after the exposure to CH-ol. [The corresponding values obtained previously in matching experiments without EtOH were as follows: 1.0%, 39%, 18% (CH-one); 0.5%, 23%, 11% (CH); and 1.1%, 19%, 8% (CH-ol).] The excretion curves of the metabolites in the exposures with EtOH were not delayed when compared with the corresponding curves of a comparison group. CONCLUSIONS: The urinary excretion of CH-diols is much less sensitive to EtOH than that of CH-ol. It is recommended to employ CH-diols as useful and more reliable biomarkers of exposure to CH-one, CH and CH-ol in field examinations.  (+info)

(7/662) Plasma endothelin-1 elevation associated with alcohol-induced variant angina.

Vasospastic angina as a result of alcohol ingestion has been reported, but the mechanism of alcohol-induced coronary artery spasm is presently unknown. This report presents 2 cases of alcohol-induced variant angina (VA) with elevated levels of plasma endothelin-1 after alcohol ingestion. In case 1, the plasma endothelin-1 concentration was 3.15 pg/ml before drinking (normal <2.30 pg/ml) and increased to 4.09 pg/ml when measured 5 h after alcohol ingestion. After 2 months of abstinence, the plasma endothelin-1 concentration was 2.88 pg/ml and 6 months after abstinence, it decreased to 2.03 pg/ml (normal range). In case 2, the plasma endothelin-1 concentration was 2.44 pg/ml before drinking and increased to 4.36 pg/ml when measured 5 h after alcohol ingestion. After 2 months of abstinence, the plasma endothelin-1 concentration was 3.04 pg/ml and 6 months after abstinence, it decreased to 2.09 pg/ml (normal range). These 2 cases suggest that a relationship may exist between alcohol-induced VA and elevation in the plasma endothelin-1 concentration after alcohol ingestion.  (+info)

(8/662) Alcohol consumption and cognitive performance in the Framingham Heart Study.

Recent studies have indicated that moderate alcohol intake may be beneficial to cognitive functioning in women, although not necessarily in men. Data from the Framingham Heart Study, a large, prospective study of cardiovascular disease in Framingham, Massachusetts, were used to examine the relation between alcohol consumption and cognitive ability. The major research question was whether a different alcohol-cognition relation would be found for male and female drinkers. Men (n = 733) and women (n = 1,053), aged 55-88 years, were queried as to their weekly intake of alcohol, and these data were used to construct groups of abstainers, very light, light, moderate, and heavy drinkers. Data from earlier reports of alcohol consumption were also examined. Participants were administered eight tests which reflect performance in the domains of verbal memory, learning, visual organization and memory, attention, abstract reasoning, and concept formation. Multivariate linear regression analyses were used with statistical adjustment for age, education, occupation, cardiovascular disease, and associated risk factors. Women who drank moderately (2-4 drinks/day) showed superior performance in many cognitive domains relative to abstainers. For men, superior performance was found within the range of 4-8 drinks/day, although fewer significant relations were observed. These results were confirmed by prospective analyses of 24-year drinking history.  (+info)

Why do alcoholic beverages not have to list their ingredients?

I am severely allergic to nuts and I know some alcohol is made from nuts.
WHAT TO DO?!?
Why do alcoholic beverages not have to list their ingredients?
----------

Rules governing alcoholic-beverage labeling suffer from jurisdictional gaps between the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB, formerly the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).

Here's the article:

How many alcoholic beverages are tasty enough to drink straight without having to gag yourself?

I know Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Goldschlager, and Jagermeister do the job. What other alcoholic beverages are like that?
----------

any call quality gin....every single-malt scotch ever made, southern comfort and lime (does adding lime still count as straight) 99.9% beer and wine (still alcoholic!) absolute, kettle one and level on ice....thats just off the top of my head

What is the term for the process of removing alcohol from alcoholic beverages?

I couldn't find the term for removal of alcohol from alcoholic beverages and would like to know at what point is alcohol removed from beer or wine?
----------

Alcohol is removed from Non-Alcoholic Beers & Wine, this process is referred to as dealcoholization (at least by one wine maker).

What kind of alcoholic beverages go well with the following dishes?

For example: red wine complements steak, i know that.
Likewise what kind of alcoholic beverages go well with the following (cooked in different ways)?

Fish & Seafood
Red meats
Chicken
Pasta dishes
Salads
+ add more if you wish.

I am no alcoholic, but occasionally when I go to a nice I do want to order something that goes well with the main dish...
Also, I love mixed drinks. Martinis, bellinis, mojito, etc...
----------

There is a wine or beer for all those; not so much distilled.

Fish & Seafood - White Wine or Light Ale
Red meats - Red Wine or Dark Beer
Chicken - White Wine or Light Beer
Pasta dishes - Dry Red Wine
Salads - Dry White Wine
Meatload/Shepard's Pie - Dark Beer
+ add more if you wish

What are some non-alcoholic beverages which can be made with a blender?

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas or recipes for non-alcoholic beverages which you can make with ingredients that don't require refrigeration? Ideally they would not cost too much either. Btw we have an industrial quality blender which we can use. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
----------

You can make all of these drinks without ice, but they probably won't taste as good.

Smoothies
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
1 8 oz. container ultrapasturized shelf storage milk or powdered milk mixed with water
Put all ingredients into a the blender and give it process until smooth.
You can use canned fruit to substitute form the berries and the banana.  Strawberries will hold up for a few days if kept in a cool place.

This a favorite of mine.

How is the permission for selling of alcoholic beverages in the State of Massachusetts?

Are convenience stores and diners allowed to sell alcoholic beverages in the State of Massachusetts?

If they are, may they sell distilled spirits, like whiskey?

If they're not, where can I found distilled spirits? Only in liquor stores?
